Friends of Selwyn College Boat Club The Friends of Selwyn College Boat Club are looking for new members and inviting you to reconnect with SCBC
Friends of SCBC We are a group of Selwyn alumni whose aim is to ensure the Boat Club has everything it needs to make sure rowing is an inclusive and exciting experience for current students.
Originally known as the ‘Henley Fund’, the group’s purpose was to support crews competing at Henley Royal Regatta. Over time the objective has broadened to ensure that all Selwyn students can enjoy the unique experience of rowing at Cambridge. To reflect that broader purpose the Fund’s name was changed to the Friends of SCBC. Coming out of the pandemic, we are keen to expand our events programme, giving alumni the chance to reconnect with old friends and support the Boat Club. Come and join us!

How do the Friends support? The Friends supports the Boat Club with the day-to-day running costs of the club. This includes paying for all equipment, coaching costs, and making contributions towards activities such as training camps.
The committee regularly meet with the captains and treasurer of the boat club to ensure the club has the equipment it needs. For example, in the last year before the pandemic, the Friends funded new blades, coaching and a training camp at a total cost of £14,000. In 2022, via a special appeal, the Friends funded the purchase of new VIIIs for M1 and W1.

Becoming a subscriber We are keen to welcome alumni who would like to keep in touch. The work that we do at the Friends is only possible thanks to the generous donations of our subscribers. Even a small monthly or annual subscription can have a significant impact on our finance and enable the Friends to better support the club. For example, £10 per month allows us to support a student at Easter training camp, which has been a great success in recent years. As a subscriber you will receive regular updates via email and invitations to events, such as the recent launch of SCBC’s new VIIIs, and a drinks party in the Master’s Lodge on the Saturday of May Bumps.
