Wheelchair athlete continues to excel Joey Gibbs suffered a spinal cord injury eight years ago at age 12 in a motocross motorcycle crash north of Ocala. He became a wheelchair athlete at Vanguard High School, is now in the Wheelchair Athletic Program at the University of Illinois and recently qualified for the Boston Marathon next April.
