Seeds of Peace International Camp
International Youth Conferences
Each summer, hundreds of teenagers poised and selected to become their nation’s future leaders spend one month at Seeds of Peace International Camp in Maine living side-by-side with people they have been taught to hate. Each aspect of the program is designed to foster trust, challenge assumptions and narrow the psychological distance between the participants. This intensive program combines recreation, sports, and arts activities with daily dialogue sessions led by professional facilitators. By the summer’s end, the young leaders have gained the foundation that enables them to return home and continue working toward the peaceful future for which they all strive.
To complement its regional programs, Seeds of Peace convenes high-level international youth conferences focusing on critical topics and relevant issues that future leaders will need to succeed. From in-depth analysis and discussions on Israeli-Palestinian negotiations, to the root causes of violence and terrorism, to the role of the media in conflict regions, Seeds of Peace graduates are gaining the insight and practical experience on what it takes to lead.
Seeds of Peace Center for Coexistence The Seeds of Peace Center for Coexistence in Jerusalem provides year-round activities that reinforce the camp experience, strengthen graduates’ relations across lines of conflict, and enhance their community leadership. Advanced dialogue sessions, school presentations, educational seminars, programs for parents, meetings with political leaders, and the publication of The Olive Branch magazine, help engage our graduates in their home countries as they mature from teenagers into young adults.
Education Program To help ensure Seeds of Peace graduates guide their nations toward peaceful coexistence, it is important they obtain quality educations. The Education Program is helping to create opportunities for Seeds of Peace graduates at educational institutions in the United States as well as offering them seminars and workshops designed to encourage their potential. It is here in the United States that the leaders of tomorrow are receiving an education that will prepare them for professional opportunities in their home countries.
Delegation Leader Program Each summer, adult Delegation Leaders are chosen by their governments to accompany the youth to the Seeds of Peace International Camp. As officials in their nation's ministries or formal educators, the adults take part in a challenging program that parallels the coexistence work of the teens at the camp and through annual workshops when they return home. Influencing and training professional educators is yet another way to spread coexistence and leadership-building techniques to others.
An International Model Since 1993, Seeds of Peace has graduated over 2,500 future leaders and empowered them with the leadership skills required to advance coexistence and reconciliation. While its focus remains the Middle East and the IsraeliPalestinian conflict, Honors & Awards over the last decade Seeds of Peace has 2000 UNESCO Madanjeet Singh Prize expanded to include for Tolerance and Non-Violence other conflict regions 2003 U.S. House of Representatives including India, PakConcurrent Resolution 288 istan, Afghanistan, the Balkans and Cyprus. Seeds of Peace also hosts a domestic program addressing racial tensions in Maine, as well as Beyond Borders, a new program that brings together American and Arab teens, including Iraqis and Saudis.
