Day 2 | SEEDS International Conference + Discussions Beyond Basketball: The Effect & Impact of Seeds Academy Basketball can be a powerful tool to promote child and youth development. By providing opportunities for young people to develop transferable life skills characteristics such as leadership, perseverance, social and moral character, selfesteem, commitment to teamwork, problem-solving, and organizational ability basketball helps participants realize their potential as productive citizens. Research proves that physical education and sport play an important role in school life increasing school enrolment, retention and access to education and fostering academic achievement. This panel will feature graduates of the Seed Academy where they will provide personal reflections on how basketball has impacted their lives.

Basketball + Gender Equity Sports has been an effective tool for empowering girls and women, given that they are often excluded from participation; and enjoying the physical and psychosocial benefits offered by sport. Seeds Academy has participated in various outreaches on girls’ sports and will continue to promote equal opportunity and challenge misperceptions surrounding young women’s capabilities.

Expanding the Legacy: Partnerships, Sustainability + The Road Ahead This panel discussion will focus on the future aspirations of Seeds and the work and investment needed to get there (both long term and short term). The panel will explore both challenges and opportunities and close out with an invitation of a charter of commitment by stakeholders to reach measurable benchmarks both qualitative and quantitative.
