HEALTH

S

eptember is here - the ninth month of the year 2020. Where did the time go? With all beginnings, there is often an ending, so it is for this month. September is the end of summer- the beginning of autumn and the end of summer vacations with students returning to their academic year. However, regarding our health, during September we need to continue our diligence to safety measures. So let’s list some COVID-19 Myth Busters for the public as endorsed by the World Health Organization (WHO). FACT: Studies show hydroxychloroquine does not have clinical benefits in treating COVID-19. Hydroxychloroquine or chloroquine, a treatment for malaria, lupus erythematosus, and rheumatoid arthritis, has been under study as a possible treatment for COVID-19. Current data shows that this drug does not reduce deaths among hospitalized COVID-19 patients, nor help people with moderate symptoms. FACT: The likelihood of shoes spreading COVID-19 is very low. As a precautionary measure, particularly in homes where infants and small children crawl or play on floors, consider leaving your shoes at the entrance of your home. This will help prevent contact with dirt or any waste that could be carried on the soles of shoes. FACT: The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is caused by a virus, NOT by bacteria. The virus that causes COVID-19 is in a family of viruses called Coronaviridae. Antibiotics do not work against viruses. Some people who become ill with COVID-19 can also develop a bacterial infection as a complication. In this case, antibiotics may be recommended by a health care provider. There is currently no licensed medication to cure COVID-19. If you have symptoms, call your health care provider. FACT: The prolonged use of medical masks when properly worn, DOES NOT cause CO2 intoxication nor oxygen deficiency. The prolonged use of medical masks can be uncomfortable. However, it does not lead to CO2 intoxication nor oxygen deficiency. While wearing a medical mask, make sure it fits properly and that it is tight enough to allow you to breathe normally. Do not re-use a disposable mask, and always change it as soon as it gets damp. FACT: Drinking alcohol does not protect you against COVID-19 and can be dangerous The harmful use of alcohol increases your risk of health problems. FACT: There are currently no drugs licensed for the treatment or prevention of COVID-19 While several drug trials are ongoing, there is currently no proof that hydroxychloroquine or any other drug can cure or prevent COVID-19. The misuse of hydroxychloroquine can cause serious side effects and illness and even lead to death. WHO is coordinating efforts to develop and evaluate medicines to treat COVID-19. FACT: Catching COVID-19 DOES NOT mean you will have it for life. Most of the people who catch COVID-19 can recover and eliminate the virus from their bodies. If you catch the disease, make sure you treat your symptoms. If you have cough, fever, and difficulty breathing, seek medical care early – but call your health facility by telephone first. Most patients recove, thanks to supportive care.

FACT: Rinsing your nose with saline does NOT prevent COVID-19. There is no evidence that regularly rinsing the nose with saline has protected people from infection with the new coronavirus. There is some limited evidence that regularly rinsing the nose with saline can help people recover more quickly from the common cold. However, regularly rinsing the nose has not been shown to prevent respiratory infections. FACT: COVID-19 is NOT transmitted through houseflies. To date, there is no evidence or information to suggest that the COVID-19 virus can be transmitted through houseflies. The virus that causes COVID-19 spreads primarily through droplets generated when an infected person coughs, sneezes or speaks. You can also become infected by touching a contaminated surface and then touching your eyes, nose or mouth before washing your hands. To protect yourself, keep at least 1-meter distance from others and disinfect frequently-touched surfaces. Clean your hands thoroughly and often and avoid touching your eyes, mouth and nose. FACT: Drinking methanol, ethanol or bleach DOES NOT prevent or cure for COVID-19 and can be extremely dangerous. Methanol, ethanol, and bleach are poisons. Drinking them can lead to disability and death. Methanol, ethanol, and bleach are sometimes used in cleaning products to kill the virus on surfaces – however you should never drink them. They will not kill the virus in your body and they will harm your internal organs. FACT: Exposing yourself to the sun or temperatures higher than 25°C DOES NOT protect you from COVID-19. You can catch COVID-19, no matter how sunny or hot the weather is. Countries with hot weather have reported cases of COVID-19. To protect yourself, make sure you clean your hands frequently and thoroughly and avoid touching your eyes, mouth, and nose. FACT: Being able to hold your breath for 10 seconds or more without coughing or feeling discomfort DOES NOT mean you are free from COVID-19. The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are dry cough, tiredness and fever. Some people may develop more severe forms of the disease, such as pneumonia. The best way to confirm if you have the virus producing COVID-19 disease is with a laboratory test. You cannot confirm it with this breathing exercise, which can even be dangerous FACT: Vaccines against pneumonia DO NOT protect against the COVID-19 virus Vaccines against pneumonia, such as pneumococcal vaccine and Haemophilus influenza -type B (Hib) vaccine, do not provide protection against the new coronavirus. The virus is so new and different that it needs its own vaccine. Researchers are trying to develop a vaccine against COVID-19, and WHO is supporting their efforts. Although these vaccines are not effective against COVID-19, vaccination against respiratory illnesses is highly recommended to protect your health. FACT: Eating garlic does NOT prevent COVID-19. Garlic is a healthy food that may have some antimicrobial properties. However, there is no evidence from the current outbreak that eating garlic has protected people from the new coronavirus. FACT: People of all ages can be infected by the COVID-19 virus. Older people and younger people can be infected by the COVID-19 virus. Older people, and people with pre-existing medical conditions such as asthma, diabetes, and heart disease appear to be more vulnerable to becoming severely ill with the virus. WHO advises people of all ages to take steps to protect themselves from the virus, for example by following good hand hygiene and good respiratory hygiene.

ilson was raised in the Chicago area. In his childhood, Wilson began singing with the adult male chorus with his father at the Rock of Ages Baptist Church in Maywood, Illinois.

Wilson enrolled at the University of Illinois, where he also sang in the University of Illinois Black Chorus. He eventually graduated with a degree in liberal arts and sciences, with an emphasis on economics. Wilson took a job as a pharmaceutical salesman, while he continued to sing in his free time. After seven years, Wilson moved to Houston, Texas, to work for Johnson & Johnson. He started visiting Windsor Village United Methodist Church with a friend and became a born-again Christian. After some time, Wilson was invited to write music for their services, with some of his songs receiving airplay on local radio stations. At some point, Wilson met Pastor Rudy Rasmus, who was looking for songs to pitch to friend and music entrepreneur Mathew Knowles. After listening to Wilson's song "Already Here", Knowles signed Wilson to his record label Spirit Rising/Music World. In 2009, Wilson released his debut album titled Just Love. The album was produced by Stan Jones and features contributions by Tommy Simms. In 2010, the title song was nominated for a Dove Award for Urban Recorded Song of the Year, while Wilson himself was nominated for New Artist of the Year at the 41st GMA Dove Awards.Wilson's single "All I Need" also set a record for staying on the Top Gospel Songs chart for 89 weeks. [2] Wilson re-released a deluxe edition of his album on October 5 of the same year, accompanied by a nationwide tour through several cities in the United States. In 2012, Wilson undertook two projects simultaneously. First, he released the album "So Proud". According to amazon.com, Wilson recalls that "The inspiration for this project came three years ago when I penned "So Proud," the title song and the CD project's first single. The song is about remembering ‌ remembering the reasons why you should keep going when the days seem the hardest...remembering your value when people cast you aside...remembering the people who did not give up on you when you feel like giving up on yourself...and most of all, it's about remembering that the reason we have so much to remember is because God has always been there to make a way through the people in our lives." The album debuted at No. 1 on the Top Gospel Albums charts, and the singles "So Proud" and "He Still Cares" made their way to radio. It was also in 2012 that he united with Gospel legend Fred Hammond, Dave Hollister and R&B artist Eric Roberson to make the United Tenors project, which was released in 2013. Cited as the last addition to the group, it was clear once the production began ... that Wilson quickly left his fingerprints on the project. In 2015, Wilson signed with Motown Gospel. He later came out with the single "Worth Fighting For". This single became known worldwide. The single peaked at No. 3 on Top Gospel Songs chart. The song was nominated for Urban Recorded Song of the year at the 46th GMA Dove Awards, and he is also nominated for a Grammy for Song of the Year. Wilson also won Traditional Gospel Album of the Year for his album Worth Fighting For. This album debuted at No. 2 on the Top Gospel Albums chart. In 2018 Brian Courtney Wilson released his hit single "A Great Work". This marked his fastest rising single to date, and reached number 1 on the Billboard Gospel Charts as well being nominated for multiple Grammy and Dove Awards for both the song and the album "A Great Work". Time For A Pop Quiz! Tests don’t end once you finish school. Churchgoers of all ages can regularly conduct these quick assessments: • The worship test: Do I faithfully attend worship services and Bible studies? • The weather test: Am I a “fair weather” Christian? Do conditions that wouldn’t keep me from work keep me from church? • The work test: Am I willing to put my talents to use for my church? Can the congregation count on me to help however possible, or am I too busy elsewhere?

Many Parts, One Body Through the teaching, support, sacrifice, worship and commitment of the church, utterly ordinary people are enabled to do some rather extraordinary, even heroic acts, not on the basis of their own gifts and abilities, but rather by having a community capable of sustaining Christian virtue. The church enables us to be better people than we could have been if left to our own devices. —Stanley Hauerwas and William Willimon, Resident Aliens

All Workers Are Essential The concept of vocation, Latin for “to call,” previously referred only to a calling to church work. But then Martin Luther emphasized the importance — and even sanctity — of all types of labors. The reformer pointed out that “God doesn’t need our good works, but our neighbor does.” RJ Grunewald, in a blog post titled “God Makes Pizza,” describes how this looks today: “God is busy about his work in the midst of your work whether you realize it or not. The laundry, the spreadsheets, the phone calls and the cups of coffee are all deeply spiritual because God is at work in the world. He is serving your family, your coworkers and your community through the work you do. God is at work providing ‘daily bread’ through the work that you do, no matter what that work is.”

Don’t assume that God will always work in your life the way he always has. A sunset is proof that God colors outside the lines. He has no status quo. Even the laws of nature are his to interrupt. As many times as you’ve prayed before, today may be the day when God sends the answer so swiftly — so divinely — that you’re windburned. ―Beth Moore

Alpha & Omega God created this world, everything that it holds. And God still is creating as each day unfolds. What we once called the future, we now call the past. While the present is fleeting, God stays — first and last!
