omeone has said, “Vacation is what you take when you can’t take what you’ve been taking any longer.”

There are good reasons to take a vacation every year: spending time with friends and loved ones, experiencing physical and mental refreshment, enjoying changes in scenery and routine, and preparing for another year of productivity. Please enjoy your vacation! Try to be faithful to the Lord by attending church while you’re away, if you have the opportunity. Just remember that during vacations and weekend getaways, you’re especially missed by your friends at church. The work of the church suffers because no one can fill your place of responsibility quite like you. God’s work goes on all summer long. Your presence and gifts are needed to enable the church to be strong and vigorous throughout the entire year. When you’re away, please bring or send your offering before you go. Have a wonderful summer!

“When Demonic Spirits of Discouragement Visit Your Life!”

Sons and Daughters of Christ Jesus, Grace to You!

G

od’s Word reminds us how to lift a shield of faith against discouragement. “Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ” (Philippians 1:6).

What He began when He called us, He intends to finish. We are in the process of becoming the people He intends us to be.

God will continue His good work of grace in the Saints until the consummation at the day of Jesus Christ (the day when Christ returns). God’s Word is the tonic for Saints’ discouragement. Sometimes we feel that the process is slow and become impatient with ourselves and Satan takes advantage of it. The way to change the outer discouragement is to allow God to deal with our inner discouragement. This means refocusing our attention on the Lord and the “good work” He has begun in us and seeks to continue. What is this “Good Work?” It is the good work included in Paul’s prayer: “And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment, that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense until the day of Christ, to the glory and praise of God” (Philippians 1:9-11). Now this is not something we are to produce for the Lord. He is doing it and will continue. Often the very things that cause us discouragement are being used by God as part of our growth in His good work. Our challenge is to yield to Him and receive what He gives. The Lord renews our courage and enables us to enjoy what He is doing in us despite what may be happening around us. The result is that we can have a new hope for our tasks and challenge. Amen! Until He Comes, I Am Serving Christ Joyfully,

Bishop Dr. Wm. LaRue Dillard Parish Under-Shepherd

Fathers n 1966, President Lyndon B. Johnson issued the first Presidential Proclamation to honor fathers. He designated the Third Sunday in June as “Father’s Day.” Six years later, President Richard Nixon made the day a permanent national celebrated holiday, signed into law in 1972.

But before all of this, the first Father’s Day was celebrated in 1910 at the YMCA in Spokane, Washington by Sonora Smart Dodd, to celebrate and honor her father, William Jackson Smart, a Civil War veteran and a single parent who had raised six children by himself. After hearing a sermon from her pastor honoring Mothers, Sonora Dodd suggested that Fathers should be recognized to. She wanted this day to honor Fathers to be held on the First Sunday in June, which was June 5, her father’s birthday. But since it was a short notice, and the pastor did not have a sermon ready, he moved the day to the Third Sunday in June, making this the first recognition of Father’s Day. President Richard Nixon made the Third Sunday in June the official date to honor all Fathers. But no one can match, the “Father.” God, our heavenly Father gave his only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life (John 3:16). Happy Father’s Day to All Fathers!

“Called to Ride Out the Storm”

C

limb into faith today. Thrust your entire body, soul and spirit into the ocean of power called Faith! No storm will ever swallow you in its squall. Believe today that you can do all things through your Savior who strengthens you. Lean into Me and feel Me breathe into you with My words. You are strong in Me, and in the power of My might. No trial is too much for you because you trust in Me. I caress you today in My love and joy (in part from the devotional, “Talk to me Jesus” (Hebrews 11:1-2; Psalm 103:5; Matthew 8:26). These day’s events are calling us to get closer and closer to Christ, and He is telling us that He is with us, even to the end of the age! Because there is more bad news than ever before, the “good news” still exists, and it is still Jesus Christ! So let’s not grow weary in doing good, we will reap our harvest if we faint not. God is still telling us “I know the plans I have for you; plans to prosper you… (Jeremiah 29:11). He is still telling us that He will keep us in perfect Peace if we keep our mind stayed on Him. So I want to encourage you as I encourage myself, that the best is yet to come! May the Lord bless you and keep you until we meet again!

R

eleased in 2012, “Fathers” is the story of two single fathers and their sons who are suffering from losses in their lives. Rick Tarinno lost his wife in a tragic car accident three years earlier. Ever since the accident, Rick has blamed God for everything, even the death of his wife. In doing so, Rick turned to a life of abuse and drinking to try to drown his sorrows. The other father, Michael Campbell, is approaching the three year anniversary of the divorce from his wife who abandoned him and his teenage son Rick’s son, Lucas, and Michael’s son, Raymond have known each other since they were little boys. But since the death of Lucas’ mom, things haven’t been the same for Lucas and his father. Lucas has become of the victim of Rick’s abuse and has turned to a new set of friends, looking for attention that his father is not giving to him. Although Raymond tries desperately to save their friendship, it seems like his friend is slipping away and their long friendship to. Watch to see the ending to this compelling story about “Fathers.” You can watch it on Christian Cinema On-Demand; or, you can rent it from Christian Cinema for $2.99 or you can buy it on Digital SD from Christian Cinema for $4.99. Whatever your choice, it is a good movie. I give this movie “Four Stars!”

n Bible times men were personally involved in the education of their children. Fathers were encouraged to spend time with their children on a regular basis, as is made evident by the Bible’s words at Deuteronomy 6:6, 7, which say: “These words that I am commanding you today must prove to be on your heart; and you must inculcate them in your son and speak of them when you sit in your house and when you walk on the road and when you lie down and when you get up.”

ur enemy may prowl like a lion, but his weapon of choice is deception. And too often, men believe him--causing pain, destroying relationships, and missing out on the life God intends. Wolgemuth exposes some of the most common lies---and explains how they hold you back from freedom, joy, and intimacy with the Lord and others.

A

re the old “wives-tales” of yesteryears really “Wise-Tales?” Let’s examine the facts behind some of these tales. Old “wives-tales” may have been useful at one time and may have some truth to them. But over time, the meaning of some may have gotten garbled from one generation to the next. After all, many of these “old wives” were midwives and healers who were viewed as medical practitioners. So we should not be surprised to find some Science in their advice. Let’s try to tease out the falsehoods, but also uncover any legitimate basis and modern research that make those “old wives” look like “wise sages.” 1. You must wait an hour after eating to go swimming. False. There is no evidence that swimming right after eating is a factor in drowning, or poses any health risk. It takes on average six to eight hours for food to clear the stomach. There is increase blood flow to the stomach during digestion, but this is easily diverted to the skeletal muscles when your body requires it. Vigorous exercise may decrease blood flow to the stomach enough to cause nausea and possible vomiting. There is also the issue of a full stomach; if you are uncomfortably full after a meal, there may be a theoretical concern for irritation of the peritoneum that can cause cramps. This, however, is not life threatening. 2. Eating carrots can improve your eyesight. This is both true and false. Carrots contain beta carotene, which the body turns into vitamin A. Vitamin A is essential for overall eye health. But vitamin A does not improve visual acuity and eyesight. So eating carrots will not give you 20/20 or 20/10 eyesight (which is even better). But eating carrots will improve your overall eye health. Eye health pertains to eye conditions, diseases, and disorders. 3. An apple a day keeps the doctor away! There may be some truth to this wives-tale. Studies have revealed many benefits from apples. Apples are rich in vitamin C and they are also high in fiber— especially, the soluble fiber pectin which has been shown to lower blood cholesterol and protect against heart disease. Apples have special phyto-chemicals which have been linked to slowing down the digestion of carbohydrates, thus improving blood glucose control. Apple phyto-chemical levels vary depending on the variety and color of the apple. Eat the skin to gain the most fiber and phyto-chemical content; and, an increasing body of research links apples to health benefits, such as weight control, digestive and immune health, cancer prevention, and cardiovascular health. 4. Chicken Soup Cures the Common Cold. Chicken soup is an old fashion feel good remedy that stirs up childhood memories of comfort. But there is also a Science behind the notion that chicken soup makes you feel better. Chicken soup provides the body with protein, vitamins, and antioxidants needed to keep the immune system functioning at its best. Research shows that it can reduce inflammation in the lungs. The steam from a warm bowl of soup can also help to ease congestion of the nasal passages. Chicken soup may ease the symptoms of a cold, but it will not cure the actual illness. When it comes to the serious topic of health and illness, you simply cannot rely on what you hear from others. You need to know the truth behind the popular old sayings before following them blindly; and make sure you seek medical help appropriately. Live Life Healthy,
