Bishop’s Epistle

November 26, 2017 KEEP FAMILY WORSHIP ALIVE IN YOUR HOME! Holy Ones of God’s Family, Grace to you! The subject of family worship is: The Bible says: “For I have chosen him, in order that he may command his children and his household after him, to keep the way of the Lord by doing righteousness and justice; in order that the Lord may bring upon Abraham what He has spoken about him.” (Genesis 18:19NASB) IN THE GROUNDS AND PROPRIETY OF IT It is grounded in the laws of nature. God has stamped upon human nature the principle and parental regard and affection. Hence, parents should feel the pleasure in tooling to supply the needs and some wants of their offspring. He who neglects this does violence to his own nature, denies the Christian faith, and is worse than an infidel. But are the minds, the precious souls of our children, of less value and importance than their bodies? Think about a time of worship in the home. We know that to worship God is to recognize who He is. To praise God is to thank Him for what He does! WHAT FAMILY WORSHIP SHOULD COMPRISE There should be the reading of the Holy Scriptures. (Deuteronomy 6:6,7) Focus should include especially the Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, the Gospels, and the Epistles of the New Testament - songs of holy praise. The offering up of prayer and supplication for ourselves, family parish church, friends, and world leader are found in these Scriptures. THE MODE IN WHICH IT SHOULD BE CONDUCTED As to times and frequency - morning and evening if possible and at least once a day. The service should be short and varied so as not to tire and fatigue those younger members of the family who cannot be expected to feel much interest in it. All member of the family, if possible, should be present. It should be conducted with regularity and constancy. Perhaps ten minutes ought to not be exceeded. THE ADVANTAGES WHICH WE MAY EXPECT TO DERIVE FROM IT (1)An increase of family knowledge, (2) The general possession of family harmony, (3) An exemption from family calamities, and (4) the enjoyment of blessedness. Amen
