CHRISTIANS CANNOT TAKE COMMUNION, COMMUNION TAKES US!

CELEBRATE THE ORDINANCE TOGETHER IN MY NAME! (I Corinthians 11:17-26) “Do this in remembrance of Me” (I Corinthians 11:26).

The Call to Worship....................................Lyceum Council of Elders

Holy ones of God’s family, Grace to you! On the first Sunday of October all of Christendom celebrate worldwide communion. The event falls on a different date each year, but it is crucial for Christians to recapture the awesome meaning of this central ordinance.

Diaconates Ministry Leading the Worship

It is the Lord’s Supper. We remember the historical event when Jesus celebrated the Passover (Last Supper) meal with His disciples. There Jesus broke bread and shared the cup as a portent of His broken body and shed blood on the cross. It is the covenant in Christ Jesus’ blood. Covenant means a relationship of promise. God established His first covenant with Abraham and now, through the shedding of the blood of the Lamb of God, Christ, a new covenant of forgiveness and grace has been established. We Christians come to the Lord’s table to affirm that covenant and claim our forgiveness and new life. It is a Eucharist. This became the official name for the sacrament from the historian Ignatius in A.D. 115. The word means “thanksgiving.” Our hearts are filled with gratitude for what our Lord has done to reconcile us and set us free from sin and guilt. It is a communion. We commune with each other and experience the living Christ in the broken bread and spilled fruit of the vine. The challenge is to become fully committed to His plan, purpose and power. The Roman legions pledged themselves to Caesar with Sacramentum, an outward sign of a deep and inward bond. No wonder God used the word through Paul for the early Christians to adopt to describe what happens when the bread is broken and the fruit of the vine is given. The power of the Lord is released at that moment for those who partake. Christ is present and His people are strengthened. Amen Until He Comes, I Am Serving Christ Joyfully, Bishop Dr. Wm. LaRue Dillard Parish Under-shepherd
