On Oct. 21, 1996, UAA retired the #79 in honor of Kelvin “Brush” Christiansen, the first coach in the program’s history. The #79 signifies the year in which UAA hockey, under Christiansen’s guidance, began as a varsity intercollegiate sport. Christiansen retired from coaching following the 1996 s eason with a career record of 287-229-30, which includes three NCAA tournament appearances. The #79 hangs in the rafters of Sullivan Arena.
