- The University of Minnesota Crookston equestrian teams have posted unprecedented success during the 2014-15 season. The Golden Eagle hunt seat team currently tops the region standings with 261 points, ahead of University of Minnesota’s 248 points and North Dakota State University’s 227 points. In western, the Golden Eagles are just three points behind NDSU’s 188 points with 185 points, while Minnesota has 179 points. In addition to their team success, UMC hunt seat riders Emily Steeley (Jr., Portsmouth, R.I./Equine Science) and Sable Bettencourt (Sr., Cloquet, Minn./Equine Science) have had a large amount of individual success. Steeley and Bettencourt currently sit at the top of the standing’s for the region’s Cacchione Cup. This is the first time UMC has ever had two riders at No. 1 and No. 2 in the standings. Steeley won the Cacchione Cup for the region during the 2013-14 season. - University of Minnesota Crookston women’s basketball player Katrina Moenkedick (Jr., F, Perham, Minn./Applied Studies) was named Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) North Division Player of the Week after averaging a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds in UMC’s wins over University of Sioux Falls and Southwest Minnesota State University. More recently, Moenkedick became the ninth player in program history to chart 1,000 points. Teammate Alexa Thielman (Jr., G, Buffalo, Minn./Health Science) is close behind, needing just 29 points to become the 10th player in program history to score 1,000 points. - The UMC baseball team started out the 2015 season, their first under new Head Coach Steve Gust, with a 20-2 loss to Washburn University. The Golden Eagles were led by Ryan Haggstrom (Jr., 1B/P, Apple Valley, Minn./Accounting), who was 3-of-4 with one RBI. In addition, UMC had several pitchers perform strongly as they wanted to get a look at their whole staff. Richie Navratil (Sr., RHP, Blansko, Czech Republic/Management) got the start and went one inning, giving up no earned runs but two runs on two hits. Trevor Buttermore (Jr., RHP, North St. Paul, Minn./Criminal Justice) also had a solid outing, going one inning and giving up no runs, while Jarad Nelson (Jr., P, Karlstad, Minn./Elementary Education) also went an inning and gave up one run on one hit. Cody Pamperin (So., RHP, Shakopee, Minn./Golf and Turf Management) gave up one run on two hits. Nolan Wahlberg (Jr., RHP, Blaine, Minn./Criminal Justice) pitched one inning of shutout baseball, giving up just one hit. - The UMC women’s basketball team has gone 3-1 in the last two weeks with wins over University of Sioux Falls, Southwest Minnesota State University and University of Mary. They currently sit in third place in the NSIC North standings and head into the last weekend looking to get home court for the first round of the NSIC/Sanford Health Tournament, which is awarded to the top four teams in each division. - The UMC men’s basketball team has gone 1-3 in the last two weeks led by a thrilling victory over Sioux Falls. Derrick Redd, Jr. (Jr., G, Menifee, Calif./Sports and Rec Management) made a last second tip-in to tie the game and Tim Lubke (Sr., G, St. Paul, Minn./Sports and Rec Management) hit the game-winning shot in overtime as the Golden Eagles came away with the win. - The UMC women’s tennis team opened their first year under Ryan McGuigan last weekend as they fell 9-0 to both Upper Iowa University and Winona State University

UMC TEAMBACKERS STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE WEEK For the Week of Feb. 12 - 18
- Katrina Moenkedick (Jr., Women’s Basketball, Perham, Minn.) averaged 21 points and 8.5 rebounds for the Golden Eagles as they picked up a split with Minot State and U-Mary. Moenkedick charted 25 points and nine rebounds as the Golden Eagles fell Friday to U-Mary. En route to her 25 points, Moenkedick achieved a career milestone as she became the ninth player in school history to score 1,000 points in her time in the Maroon and Gold. Moenkedick was 12-of-21 from the field for 57.1 percent. Against U-Mary, Moenkedick had 17 points and eight rebounds on 7-of-14 shooting from the field. The junior was 19-of-35 for 54.3 percent on the weekend. She added three steals and two assists on the weekend. Her performance against U-Mary helped the Golden Eagles back to sole possession of third place in the NSIC North. - Ryan Haggstrom (Jr., Baseball, Apple Valley, Minn.) hit .750 with three hits and one RBI as the UMC baseball team opened up the 2015 season on the road against Washburn University last weekend. Haggstrom is looking to follow up a successful sophomore season in which he hit .359 with 26 runs scored, seven doubles, four triples and 20 RBI’s.

- Ebony Livingston (Sr., Women’s Basketball, Minneapolis, Minn.) played one of the best weekends of her four-year career at UMC. The senior averaged 13.5 points and 9.0 rebounds per game as the Golden Eagles picked up an important sweep of University of Sioux Falls and Southwest Minnesota State University. Livingston came up big down the stretch for the Golden Eagles in a major victory over Sioux Falls. The senior was a perfect 10-of-10 from the charity stripe, as she secured her first double-double of the season with 14 points and 11 rebounds. She was 2-of-5 shooting from the field Friday.
- Kevin Larson (Sr., Men’s Basketball, New Ulm, Minn.) played one of his best weekends in the Maroon and Gold. The point guard averaged 19.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists as the Golden Eagles picked up a split on the weekend with a win over University of Sioux Falls and a loss to Southwest Minnesota State University. Larson came into the weekend averaging 8.5 points per game, but was a huge factor for UMC. Larson had 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field and 4-of-5 from beyond the arc in Friday’s win over Sioux Falls. He added five boards and three assists. Saturday, Larson was 8-of-12 from the field and had 20 points and six rebounds. In addition, Larson again shot lights out from beyond the arc, going 4-of-7 from beyond the arc. He added two assists. Larson shot 15-of-22 for an amazing 68.2 percent on the weekend. In addition, he was on point from beyond the arc, shooting 8-of-12 for 66.7 percent, averaging four three-pointers a game.
