(In a slow processional, preceeded by the Ministers, Ashoka goes before his people. His heir—his son by Lakshmi— follows him. His son by Triraksha joins his mother. One by one the Elements come forward and give him the insignias of an earth protector. Earth gives him a golden cape, the power to dispel poverty. Water gives him a white robe, the power of compassion. Fire gives him a staff that joins heaven and earth. Air gives him a crown so that all his commands will be obeyed.) div.
