Connecting Communities

a Sustainable Future:

The Global Ecovillage Network Grows into a Movement.

By Leila Dregger, GEN editor, and Kosha Joubert, President of GEN International

The Global Ecovillage Network (GEN) is coming of age: 18 years ago, in 1995, GEN was founded through the concerted efforts of a group of visionaries at a conference in Findhorn, then already a well-known centre for sustainable living in Northern Scotland. GEN was created in order to make visible efforts happening simultaneously and unknowingly in parallel all over the world: people taking the future of their communities, villages and neighbourhoods into their own hands. People initiating, reknitting and strengthening their communities in such a way that they may fulfil their potential of becoming caretakers of the ecosystems of which they are a part and guardians of the other species with which they coexist. In times of

climate change and a global protest movement against social injustice, the ecovillage movement is gaining momentum, providing a viable alternative to existing globalized inhumane structures, exploring decentralized solutions at a community level, and connecting traditional and contemporary knowledge for a peaceful and sustainable future. GEN has become an organization capable of linking grass-roots projects with social movements, other global actors, and governments. With the support and assistance of GEN, the ecovillages of the world have developed from being a network to a movement that generates hope on a global level.

Zentrum der Einheit, Schweibenalp, Switzerland

A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE Ecovillages are rural or urban, intentional or traditional communities with vibrant social structures, vastly diverse, yet united in their actions towards low-impact, high-quality lifestyles. Fundamentally, an eco-village is a human-scale settlement consciously designed through participatory processes to secure long-term sustainability, integrating four dimensions of sustainability: ecology, economy, the social and the cultural. Today, ecovillages are gaining global recognition for the innovative and practical tools they offer to tackle simultaneously the many social, environmental, cultural and economic challenges we face. They are precious playgrounds for civil society engagement, and village networks can weave local solutions into a new tapestry for resilient societies. This is, among other reasons, a result of GEN´s never tiring efforts. The testimonies from three continents show how diverse and serious are the wishes and motivations to create ecovillages - and how they still are connected to one movement: Nancy Oppelle from Kenya: "Nobody in our community is hungry anymore, not even at the end of the dry season. Our children are healthy, because they get a rich diet. And for the money we used to spend on fertilizers, we can buy their school books." Nancy and 40 other women of her village have learnt sustainable techniques, such as Permaculture and baking bread from sweet potatoes, from GEN ambassador Philip Munyasia.

Michael Hale from Canada: "We planned our community together. That doesn’t happen much in mainstream communities. The children playing also marks a difference. While you see children playing in cities, towns and suburbs, there are distinctive differences in an ecovillage: the constancy of the group, the quality of the play, the fact that kids want to be outside all day when the weather is fine." Michael is a member of the Yarrow ecovillage, a GEN member in British Columbia.

Anna Fillipou from Greece: "Two or three years ago we could not expect how fast this system would collapse. All kind of securities - money, education, health, work, consumption have fallen apart. Most people have lost confidence in the system. Many young people have become exhausted in protesting. This is the time for alternatives! It is amazing how many people now are interested in ecovillages."

Anna is a co-founder of an ecovillage initiative close to Thessaloniki that is receiving growing interest - just like ecovillages in other crisis-stricken countries such as Spain, Portugal and Italy. Food sovereignty, a safe environment for the children, alternatives in times of crisis - these are three major reasons why people choose live in or learn from ecovillages, and to become involved in GEN.

Kosha Joubert, president of GEN international: "I coined the term luxurious simplicity to describe the lifestyle I chose when I first moved into an ecovillage. As a mother of two young children, what could be more luxurious than living in a community - a safe and supportive environment for them? Eating food that comes straight from our own gardens; knowing where our water comes from and how our electricity is being generated; understanding the wholesome materials that make up the houses we live in, and the medicines we administer to those of us in need; having friends and community around with whom to share solidarity and our inquiry into life: what could be more precious? If at the same time, we are cutting our ecological footprint to one third of the German average (true for the case of the Sieben Linden Ecovillage in Germany) or to a half of the UK average (true for the case of Findhorn Ecovillage, where I live now), all the better!"

Robert Hall, longtime member of the GEN council, stated: "With GEN we could create a highly sophisticated organizational structure, which is respected by co-operation partners on many levels, providing a platform for collaboration, fundraising and knowledge transfer at global and grassroots levels." Currently, within GEN, the Global South is thriving: the Ecovillage Network of South America (CASA) and the Ecovillage Network of Africa (GEN-Africa) have strongly emerged in the past years to join the other three broad regional organisations that GEN-International works through: the Ecovillage Network of Oceania and Asia (GENOA), the Ecovillage Network of the English and French speaking Americas (ENA), and the Ecovillage Network of Europe (GEN-Europe). While the communities in the North tend to focus on a scaling down of ecological footprints, in the South the question may be more of a need to ‘scale up’ in order to meet basic needs. Many participants of the GEN conference this year stated that the most heartwarming experience of being in GEN is the connection with ecovillages and projects from the Global South. Testimonies of Congolese and Colombian experiences and success stories from Thailand and Cambodia are most convincing and have an healing effect on the global legacy of colonialism and slavery.

Within GEN, traditional villages from the Global South find direct partners in industrialized countries that are neither patronizing nor leading them even more into dependency and globalized destruction, but share the same vision and, to a certain extent, the same lifestyle. Even in the most despairing situations, people are coming together, connecting with the land on which they live, connecting with each other, and creating alternatives and ways to sustain the Earth and each other.

CO-OPERATIONS

"For me, GEN is the UN of the communities", says Charly Ehrenpreis, co-founder of Tamera and participant of the last GEN conference in Switzerland. "It is our extended family, it is the community of the communities."

Caring for each other, caring for the land, healing the wounds of violence and exploitation, empowering women, and learning techniques to provide food, water and energy - this is the work that many initiatives on the ground are doing. The connection to the Global Ecovillage Network gives the stability of belonging to a planetary movement that does not only talk, but really explores an overall alternative. This is the foundation for a promising connection on both sides. To this end, the first GEN International summit will take place in December 2014 in Dakar, Senegal. Looking on the achievements of GEN in the recent years it becomes apparent that the network is growing on every level. New ecovillages seem to be seeding everywhere and existing ones are growing in membership. New regional networks are forming, and more education and training initiatives are taking place. In the European Union, Africa, and Latin America, national governments are showing interest in ecovillage strategies for sustainable development. Governments are understanding that for a true transition to the resilience of societies, they need to work hand in hand with civil society actors and organizations. In the concept of ecovillage strategies for the transition of traditional villages and urban neighbourhoods to ecovillages, bottom-up and top-down approaches can combine to become a truly powerful formula for change. For example, the government in Senegal, Africa - inspired by a network of forty-five already existing ecovillages - has decided to support every second traditional village of the country (14 000 in total), with the skills and means to become ecovillages. GEN will assist in this process at all levels of development.

To this end, the first GEN International summit will take place in December 2014 in Dakar, Senegal.

GAIAEDUCATION

KNOWLEDGE TRANSFER

One of the fastest growing initiatives of GEN is its educational program, with courses such as the Ecovillage Design Education (EDE) running in over 35 countries and on all continents, with the encouragement and promotion of local trainers at its core. The EDE is a 4-week training that empowers communities to determine and consciously design their own course towards a sustainable future. The curriculum has been recognised and endorsed as setting a standard for the United Nations’ ‘Decade of Education for Sustainable Development – 2005-2014’. The EDE is universal in scope but local in application, directed towards honouring and drawing out valuable cultural diversity. Rather than losing valuable local knowledge in the process of ‘modernisation’, the aim is to honour and preserve local wisdom and sustainable traditions, while creatively merging these with innovative technologies, wherever appropriate. The participants in EDU courses don´t just learn skills - they form community, find empowerment, create projects and start-up initiatives. Just recently, the first Women's EDE took place in South Africa and, like many EDE courses, a new initiative was born: 'River of Life' - to inspire and empower women throughout the world to start projects for sustainability.

During the last years, education tools have been complemented by various online tools, helping to build a network of integrity between the

ecovillages, related movements and those who are looking for answers and solutions, the most recent example being the Solution Library. With the help of six brilliant young women from the Islamic world (from Egypt, Algeria, Morocco, Turkey and Palestine), support from partners in Egypt (CultNat and the Bibliotheca Alexandria), and financial support from the Anne Lindh Foundation, GEN developed this online access portal to sustainable solutions that began with a first collection of 80 examples. The Solution Library of appropriate technologies will be further developed and collaboratively filled by many to replicate best practices in resilience and sustainability. (http://solution.ecovillage.org) As the last GEN conference showed, the young generation of the ecovillages have created a very vital platform to connect and co-operate together: NextGEN. The presence and commitment of this highly motivated and educated younger generation were overwhelmingly inspiring. Presentations of projects from, and for, young people from Brazil, Canada, USA, Thailand, Zimbabwe and other countries, showed the richness and purity of this youthful network: young people who easily see themselves as a planetary family, ready to help each other and the world. While NextGEN has been growing for some years, there is a new sub-group of GEN that was birthed at the conference. GEN Elders is a new network of older people in ecovillages who wish to connect, contribute their experiences, and organize a way of coming together and raising their voices in solidarity with GEN.

Community Buildin

Now

future

The community of the future is here already, it takes many forms and many materials and tools are available to build such a community in a state-of-the-art format. Here in Norway we are intent on integrating many of these elements for the first time at the Solem community about an hour North of Trondheim by car. When it comes to our housing needs there are no potential solutions off the table but we certainly expect to be able to put together straw bale houses with 10 people in under 10 days. There is nothing of particular note about that actually - however our houses will be coated with a mixture of naturally occurring magnesium oxide, clay, ash and animal dung. The result will be a 'geopolymer' many times stronger than steel, radiation proof, paramagnetic (countering EMF), positive for the environment and a highly beneficial for the people living within it.

By Mike Upston The picture may seem futuristic to some but the solutions described in this article all exist, strangely no-one seems to have put them all together in

g

e

one place... yet.

MgO, its chemical formula, forms a single crystalline structure within an hour or so of mixing, so it makes the perfect multi-pour product for building and the crystal structure it forms means it offers particularly intriguing options for anyone wishing to live in a house employing sacred geometry. MgO can be used on roads as well as houses, a particular issue here as concrete and tarmac roads need regular rebuilding after the harsh winter and subsequent thaw. MgO is far superior to cement in pretty much every way, so much so that China will be banning concrete this year in favour of this material which was used to build their temples and even the Great Wall of Photo by Severin.stalder/CC 3.0

China, thousands of years ago. When restoring their temples 2-3,000 years old, it was discovered that the wood and straw cellulitic material was in perfect condition underneath. The low cost, fast build characteristics and extreme longevity mean it's pretty hard to beat as a value for money building material.

MgO can be manufactured from the commonly occurring magnesite mineral, or from seawater and the production process uses a fraction of the energy of cement – as a natural material it

does not give off harmful gasses if exposed to water, unlike concrete and is non-polluting for the planet, in fact it is even used as a natural plant supplement. It's only one of a class of materials known as geopolymers, which form such perfect and powerful bonds that they are used for the manufacture of Russian nuclear submarine hulls and as the Ukrainians discovered at Chernobyl, they repel radiation – as a result they are also used for encapsulating the most toxic products on the planet. One of our early projects will be to use MgO to produce a straw bale barn, straw bale having excellent thermal properties, being virtually fireproof (not that that will be an issue with a material like MgO which has a melting point of several thousand degrees), earthquake and hurricane proof, provided it is anchored correctly - the main risk is not destruction but being lifted away if winds are exceptional... It has happened, several years ago a non-MgO straw bale barn in tornado alley was carried a couple of hundred yards before being rotated and redeposited in one piece. Inside our growing barn we intend to use a combination of hydroponic (water culture) and aquaponic (fish culture) fruit and vegetable growing systems.

A key issue here is the long, harsh winter, where temperatures regularly drop to 20 or 30 below and there are only a few hours of light each day, so we will be testing compost as a primary heating source - a well designed compost heap gets up to over 50 degrees within a couple of days – and we will be supplementing the heat as required. The compost product will be used on our outdoor permaculture projects, enabling us to use techniques as shown in the well-known Back to Eden film; a process that employs newspaper with wood chips and compost. This naturally reduces weeding, watering, makes planting and harvesting easier, eliminates digging and reduces the impact of pests. It also facilitates far greater productivity as well as saving hundreds of hours of back breaking labour each year and it will enable us to grow crops suited to alkaline soil next to the ones better suited to the local acid soil conditions.

One of the indoor growing systems we will be appraising is the

Volksgarden, an ingenious rotating drum system of 48” in diameter – think of the inside of

a washing machine – this has a light at the centre of the spindle and a bath for feeding and watering the plants in the base unit, which also powers the rotation cycle. The plants are slid into the drum on trays and because the rotation means the plants are effectively growing in zero gravity conditions, the result is accelerated growth and fruition, tomatoes fruit in around 30 days compared to 90. In practical terms this also helps to save the environment. In combination with our other technologies (energised water, Calcium Carbonate spraying) and by stacking the machines we expect to grow at least 20 times the food in the same space compared to growing outdoors and to benefit from organic fish, fruit and veg all year round, with next to no manual input except for daily harvesting and periodic replanting. Once we've appraised the results of this first experiment we are already considering making a second compartment to our growing barn or building a second barn to create a heated tropical growing area. Our ambition is to have the best food in Norway – no ifs or buts absolutely fresh organic produce every day of the year and not limited to local produce, so our ambition extends to pomegranates, guava, pineapples, star fruit, figs, avocados, citrus fruits, papaya and even dwarf banana trees. Any items not covered by our in-house food production should be tradable, as the intention is not just self sufficiency but the creation of abundance and unmatched quality that can be sold, traded, preserved, or donated to members of the local community. All of this will save transport and distribution costs, packaging and trips to the local supermarkets for highly priced organic food that has typically been picked days beforehand, unripe or beginning to rot and wrapped in plastic – resulting in poor quality, waste and pollution.

Year Around

The next element in our concept involves the purification and energization of water. It may be surprising but lack of water can be an issue even in a country replete with lakes and rivers, especially if you are 400m up a local hill. The nearest water is 30m or more below us, requiring the use of wells, but water is often short and currently needs to be treated carefully. By harvesting it from rooftops we will have plenty more, in which case it will need to be purified and energised. Energization is a process using technology like Dan Winter's Vortex Imploder, recently tested by friends at Auroville in waste removal and by Dan and his team in the greening the desert project in Dubai. The result of energisation is far faster cleansing of waste, coupled with greater water efficiency through increased plant growth. The result Dan and his team achieved in the desert, when coupled with biochar, compost and mineral supplements was plant growth within weeks and on relatively low amounts of water, treated by his Schaubergerinspired magnetic vortex system. Our intent is to ensure the water we put back into the environment is as clean if not cleaner than the water we take from it and our own water is of excellent quality and subject to no future restrictions or limitations. On this basis we will harvest rainwater for our personal use as well as our gardening projects.

r

When it comes to waste our self reliance on home grown produce will mean we can virtually eliminate use of plastics and anything else that is 'donated' from the local supermarkets. On top of this we will be implementing systems to either use urine waste for plant fertiliser (by diluting it 10:1 with water), or growing algae from it which can feed the aquaponic fish, be turned into compost, or used as biochar. The solid waste will again be used productively in the form of output from composting toilets.

EXCERPT FROM “BREAKTHROUGH POWER BY JEANE MANNING , AS SEEN IN SCIENCE TO SAGE MAGAZINE

"Water is the life blood of the earth. When water is healthy it has a complex structure that enables it to communicate information, carry energy, nutrients and healing, to selfcleanse and discharge wastes." ~Viktor Schauberger, Forester, Naturalist and Water Visionary

Energized Wate

The current heating system here burns wood and also the communal rubbish – not the ideal solution for an eco community, but the norm in Norway for farm dwellings. This at least is converted to heat and stored via a hot water tank before being pumped under the floors of the houses. Many 'free' or pure energy systems are now poised to enter the market and the products available such as wind or solar power are already exponentially better than most commercial solutions, which are based on old and very inefficient technology. We expect magnetic motors, papp engines, hydroxy (hydrogen and oxygen from water) to begin to make market inroads from all directions. If we focus on the relatively mundane solar and wind solutions, the state-of-the-art options can be combined with the best in class step up generation and storage to optimise effectiveness and efficiency along the entire energy value chain.

When it comes to health care we

again intend to use little known but highly advanced technologies including the low level laser, Scenar and Cosmodic energy healing devices and healing blankets, developed for the Russian space programme. We already harvest usnea, the potent antiviral, antibacterial and antifungal lichen, which here in Norway literally does grow on trees and is also known as 'old mans beard'. This 1,600+ year old immune boosting cure used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for many ills and it can also be used to treat the fish we intend to cultivate in the aquaponics project, we will close the loop as the waste water from the fish will be subsequently fed to the indoor plants by our aquaponic system.

That's our list so far – and yes - we expect it all, the very best of old and new... why not? Our intent is to live in abundance by integrating and manifesting the best solutions and options, linking them all together to show the world how it can (and perhaps many will agree should) be done. Our intention is to create a holistic model, based on nature and human nature, a Bucky Fuller style approach, which continually evolves through conscious feedback while remaining stable and focused on its intent. Along the way we intend to create a win-win-win, for ourselves, other men, women and children and our planet... we invite you to share it with us.

the greatest convergence of global crises in the history of our civilization. Each is synergistic and complex. The cascading consequences of these threats are beyond our current ability to address with current strategy, science, technology, resources or politics.

Population levels are increasing rapidly while a broad range of nite vital resources are dwindling, including healthy food, fresh water, fuel, and critical mining resources. Violent competition over diminishing resources is increasing. Arable land is in sharp decline and it is estimated that we will have decimated the worlds oceans within 50 years. Pollution has contaminated even the most remote locations, causing cascading changes to entire ecosystems Both the dollar and the Euro are on the verge of collapse. Corrupt corporate, governmental and nancial activity is increasing and personal freedom and security is eroding. Poverty, disease, drought, ooding, earthquakes and severe weather are all on the rise as climates are changing. NASA predicts that increasing solar storm activity pose a potential catastrophic threat to the global energy grid and everything that depends on it. This is far from a complete list From a planetary perspective, species come and go and

Analyzing the complexity of each issue would

take a lifetime of research. Trying to predict the synergistic consequences of so many issues seems almost impossible. We are in con ict with the results of our own misguided actions and we don't even know why

.

.

fi

fl

fl

fi

.

.

fi

Yet, from a new scienti c perspective, both the cause and potential solution to the overwhelming complexity of these issues has become crystal clear. In fact, maybe it all comes down to correcting just two basic mistakes

The issues seem complex because several of our most basic assumptions in science are awed. These misunderstandings have led to a predictable chain of events that have led us to this point. The greater the level of mainstream education, the more implausible that statement may seem, but that is also part of the problem. Science often involves defense of existing assumption rather than open minded exploration of the unknown. This is not a condemnation of science. It is simply the identi cation of a disease that has infected it

We have misunderstood two fundamental concepts; how nature operates and what energy is. . Nature. We have believed that nature is primarily competitive and modeled both our economics and environmental interactions on that concept

. Energy We have believed that energy is a nite resource that must be transported and utilized at great economic and environmental cost.

.

fi

fi

.

.

.

.

These two mistakes are an underlying cause of every crisis we now face

.

fl

Cause

Solution If these two simple mistakes are understood and corrected, every current crisis we are dealing with can be solved. Change the basic motivational structure and behavior follows 1. Nature is cooperative dominant. This leads to diversity. Our economic model must copy nature to be sustainable “Mathematically, a competitive dominant biological system can only result in a single winner which then dies 2. Energy is abundant and can be accessed for free in any location in the universe. This understanding leads to an abundance based sustainable economics

Cooperation Abundance

Nature In nature, any predator must rst support it's ecosystem if it wishes to thrive. If it is overly competitive, it will destabilize its environment and its offspring may die. Nature is sustainable because a successful predator rst cooperates with it's life support system, the environment within which it competes. That is natural law and it is indisputable The evidence of nature's cooperative dominant diversity is all around us – except in our own civilization. This is why nature is constantly damaged by our actions and why we are in economic decline Our competitive dominant beliefs explain why corporations and governments increase in size and become increasingly amoral. It explains why personal freedom inevitably erodes within increasingly centralized economic systems. It explains why so many people attempt to achieve happiness by controlling others rather than living in harmony. It explains why increasingly powerful corporate and governmental structures become more complex, more inept, more corrupt, and defend unsustainable, obsolete technological cash cows like oil, coal and pharmaceuticals

.

fi

As a result, the health of our life support system is being sacri ced for individual short term gain. This, coincidentally, is the de nition of cancer

fi

.

.

fi

fi

.

fi

"A competitive dominant biological structure sacri ces long term, survival for short term gain that is defended at all cost."

Energy Our current understanding of energy is fatally destructive and a primary cause of every crisis we face. Current scienti c beliefs support the concept of fuel and an energy grid due to a fundamental misconception that has been taught as fact. In reality, energy is everywhere in unlimited quantity. The emergence of Zero Point physics and resultant energy sources such as LENR (Low Energy Nuclear Reactions), prove this fact. This is not theoretical. The technologies exist and are entering production Several scienti c assumptions such as the law of conservation of energy are foundational to all other scienti c knowledge and this constriction is where the fault lies. Conservation of energy only applies to a closed system. The universe is an open system. Even a solar cell draws its energy from an exterior source In reality, energy can be accessed for free in any location in a universe that is composed of unlimited energy at the most fundamental level.

fi

fi

.

.

.

.

fi

.

.

That is the tiny shift in understanding that will change the world as we know it

"An economy based on free energy is based on abundance Abundance fosters collaboration."

Abundance Economics With abundant energy, any climate or location can become a localized paradise at no cost to man or nature It is the combination of abundance based and cooperative dominant economics that allows both recovery and future sustainability to occur naturally without having to understand the overwhelming complexity of each crisis. This is vital to understand since it provides us with a simple road map to recovery. Curing insanity cannot be achieved by studying complex irrational symptoms. It can only be achieved by understanding cause

Birth of a Renaissance Transition to a free energy economy is vital if we are to have any hope of providing the abundance that encourages collaborative economics. If you have economically free energy, accomplishing anything else becomes far easier. If you don't have to dig up fuel, re ne it, transport it, dispense it, pay for it, carry it in a vehicle, store it in a tank or batteries, get it to the engine, power the engine, dump the polluted remains in the atmosphere, how much simpler does creating motion or electricity become? Imagine the impact of removing the cost of heating a greenhouse in the winter or the cost of transporting food thousands of miles

The true physics of sustainability is not about survival. It is about thriving in partnership with a thriving environment. This then allows us to evolve by creating

fi

.

technologies that provide access to unlimited resources and even the stars. If you don't have to carry fuel, where can you go and how fast?

Legacy of a technological dark age Should we admire what we have achieved in the last 100 years? What would we have accomplished with free energy instead? Is it being too harsh to ask if a tumor should admire itself? It all depends on your point of view. What have we created with the science and

technologies of unsustainable competition and energy ignorance? Have we cured diseases or just learned to pro t by treating

fi

fi

?

them? Have we honored nature or threatened her? Have we achieved peace, equity or removed poverty, or have we spent most of our resources on power, war and created suffering and poverty for the majority to bene t a small minority? Is a car, boat, jet or rocket in balance with nature as it moves, or does it pollute? Do our farming practices support nature or contaminate her with chemicals, soil depletion and short sighted genetic manipulations. Do our roads support life or are they barriers that pollute and divide ecosystems

Skeptics and academic arrogance In a universe of in nite potential, logically, any certainty in what is “known” is an irrational concept. In a healthy collaborative environment, egos are more balanced and science is an expression of our desire to discover and explore the unknown. In a competitive dominant environment, fear and ego often override curiosity and knowledge. This is a symptom, not an attribute "There is nothing that we currently know that we should have the arrogance to defend with certainty."

Implications The implications of these recent breakthroughs are vital to understand. Every day that we waste in denial takes us closer to the edge. Nature, our life support system, is already straining under the load of what we have created. Within current belief systems, the sheer magnitude and diversity of crises we face will not be addressed in time. In other words, our existing beliefs are not a survivable option A number of new energy systems are now entering the market place without fanfare. In the US, LENR research is still considered career suicide within the limitations of mainstream physics. Yet, working devices exist and have for years

.

.

.

fi

fi

.

Several foreign companies are now entering production of practical home power systems at very low cost. In reality, there are many ways to tap this unlimited eld of energy - the energetic basis of reality as we know it

The future The physics that is emerging will have far greater impact than providing economically free energy sources. We are beginning to explore a more uni ed understanding of an intrinsically conscious universe. As in the past, what may appear magic is only a higher level of science yet to be discovered and there now appear to be few limits to what we can discover or achieve. Rapid transportation to any point in the universe is just one potential implication. Abundant energy and economics is just the beginning if we just have the courage to adapt

mainstream wind turbine designs are based on incorrect

aerodynamic calculations. This is not a small mistake. It is a massive error and obvious once understood. A global industry employing thousands of physicists, aerodynamicists, engineers and chemists has misunderstood the most fundamental principle involved in capturing energy from wind

The error is in using the same aerodynamics as an aircraft In aviation, drag must be minimized to increase performance. The faster an aircraft goes, the more drag is created and the more fuel is used. An aircraft has to penetrate air ef ciently. This is why long thin wings are used by sailplanes. They are designed to maximize ef cient penetration of air without an engine

Drag increases by the square with velocity Aircraft must reduce drag to increase ef ciency In wind power, the goal is to convert wind force into useable energy. The faster the wind blows, the more energy is available. A wind turbine is anchored in a stream of air. Air can be de ected around an obstacle with no penalty. This can signi cantly increase the amount of energy available despite creating drag

Force increases by the square with velocity Wind turbines can use drag to increase ef ciency These concepts are diametrically opposed so the error could not be more incorrect. This is a disturbing and baf ing discovery. How could something so blatantly obvious be missed by the entire global wind industry

This question ramifications.

has

far

greater

To optimize true wind force ef ciency, kinetic energy must logically be extracted from as many molecules passing through a given area as possible. Currently, only the outer 30% of a typical horizontal wind turbine blade produces any meaningful torque and involves less than 5% of the total disk area. Aerodynamic ef ciency is utilized but no attempt is made to divert or accelerate the air at all. In other words, the drag side of the equation is completely ignored Ironically, a mountain ridge is a good example of converting drag to energy. Wind is forced to go over the ridge, thereby compressing and accelerating the air. If the ridge is considered to be part of the design, by placing a wind turbine near the top of a ridge, it becomes obvious that a xed obstacle (drag) can ef ciently increase the amount of energy available When considered from this perspective, the difference between aircraft and wind turbines becomes obvious. The idea of using a few long thin blades to maximize aerodynamic ef ciency is ridiculous. Why try to ef ciently penetrate the air when you are anchored to the ground The primary goal of a wind turbine is to convert the kinetic energy of air molecules into

electrical energy. An “ef cient” wind turbine produces energy by

So what is an efficient design? Once the basic principle is understood, there are many approaches. In simplest terms, the goal is to accelerate every available molecule and direct it to the region of greatest leverage – like the outside ring of a rotating turbine in the example to the left Even though this design is not optimized in order to demonstrate clearest proof of the physics involved, torque is considerably higher, cut in speed far lower and wind direction can vary signi cantly with little ef ciency loss. This is despite the fact that the blades appear to point directly into the wind Remember that wind force increases by the square with velocity. Small changes in wind velocity therefore have a large impact on available energy. In this example, the at plate obstacle is the “ridge”, forcing air to divert and accelerate before passing through the energy extraction blades at the perimeter – the area of maximum leverage. The more the air is accelerated and focused, the more energy is available. Additionally, by creating a low pressure void behind the obstacle, or by vortexing etc, air can be accelerated even more. Yet again, the only penalty for doing so is drag, which is compensated for by anchoring to the ground

Extracting energy from rivers and tide This primary knowledge becomes even more effective when applied to extracting energy from river and tidal forces. Air can compress. Water cannot. This means that any constriction in water ow is translated directly into increased velocity. Constrict a wide slow river into a narrow channel and you have “rapids”. Double the speed and you have 4 times the force. Focus all of that force towards a point of maximum leverage and the results are predictable. Density of water is approximately 800 times greater than air.

Conclusion 1. Far more energy can be extracted from both wind and water sources at far lower cost and effort if we use both lift and drag to achieve useful force.

2. It is possible for thousands of PhD’s in a broad range of disciplines to make diametrically incorrect assumptions at a fundamental level.

use the wind industry as an introductory lesson because the

error we have made regarding the nature of energy itself can now be explained using the same simple formula In the wind industry, this unfathomably simple mistake has cost $billions in lost revenue, reduced performance, higher cost, wasted resources and limited application. Unfortunately the cost of misunderstanding a fundamental law of physics is greater by orders of magnitude. This error has caused global carnage and is a major contributor to every crisis we currently face The breakthrough here is not in discovering a new energy source. That happened long ago. Tragically, many “scienti c heretics” have made similar discoveries for over a century, usually to their personal detriment. The breakthrough is in nally discovering a basic undeniable formula, a simple scienti c explanation and a repeatable, provable method of energy ampli cation without using complex math or advanced physics. This is not the only method of accessing a universally abundant energy source but it is by far the easiest to explain regardless of education level. The simplicity of this evidence is a lot harder to deny or suppress

The following energy breakthrough is one of the best examples of using the same simple formula outlined in part 1.F=Mv2, or force increases by the square with velocity “It is well known that both hydraulic power and its effect on uid are both linear. For example, if you increase the power by a factor of three, your output and expense will increase by a factor of three. However, since kinetic energy is exponential, the energy derived from the speed of the water molecules in this example will increase by a factor of nine. Simple physics, abundant supply, and proven tests - Molecular Impact Steam Technology.” http://mistenergysystems.com In this case, water is accelerated to high speed and then impacted, releasing heat, oxygen and hydrogen. Energy ampli cation is the result and the water can be reused inde nitely. This brilliantly simple, demonstrable approach clearly proves that energy can be ampli ed far beyond 100% ef ciency by applying this same simple ampli cation formula. Just like using wind, rivers or tides, accelerating a mass relative to another mass, creates a relative energy differential that increases by the square with velocity, requiring far less input energy to accelerate than is released on impact. This is because a secondary fundamental energy source is accessed in the process

concepts We cannot yet de ne any primary concept of reality such as photon, electron, proton, neutron, gravity, magnetism, electricity or consciousness, but our civilization is built on these fundamental unknowns. We already observe that energy density appears to be inversely related to size. Chemical, nuclear, antimatter... The smaller we go, the more energy there is. A singularity is theorized to represent in nite energy. It is therefore clear that In an in nite universe composed of in nite energy potential at the smallest scale, the only limit to accessing and utilizing energy is the intelligence with which it is accessed Exceeding 100% ef ciency is currently considered impossible by mainstream physics. Every educated person “knows” that you can't get energy from nothing. The crucial irrationality in this logic is the belief that there is something called “nothing”. There is no such thing. The closest approximation to nothing contains in nite energy potential. Again, this is undeniably obvious, but only when clearly explained The entire global wind industry has made a blatantly obvious mistake at the most fundamental level. Is it then hard to believe that the same misconceptions might exist regarding other sources of energy in an in nite universe composed of in nite energy at the smallest possible scale? Our concept of energy has been completely backwards. Just like the wind industry, we could not have been more wrong If we have the arrogance to create resolute laws about existence while still in diapers, we will always wear diapers

Strangely enough, a primary contributor to maintaining such limiting beliefs lies in the predictable results of believing that both nature and business are competitive dominant. The unavoidable conclusion is that our basic synergistic misconceptions of both energy and nature are at the heart of every crisis we currently face.

Mathematically, a competitive dominant biological system must result in a single winner which then die With such a fundamental perspective, it is now easy to predict that a competitive dominant business structure will eventually threaten an entire life support system. The evidence surrounds us. The following example shows just how destructive such behavior can be http://pondscienceinstitute.on-rev.com/svpwiki/tiki-index.php? page=Bearden+on+Tesla+and+EM+Source+Charge

If a single individual can have such disastrous global in uence for almost a century, fooling our greatest scienti c minds, does the fault lie with the individual or the unsustainable core belief structure that created him

Recovery? We nally have a simple, provable explanation of a way to tap the in nite source of energy that surrounds us. The related science extends far beyond that capability by orders of magnitude. We have been offered a fundamental correction to our most sacred scienti c beliefs This is an amazing opportunity for a renaissance, but the damage done from such a core mistake is considerable. We now have no choice but to adapt rapidly if we are to have any hope of reversing the complex, urgent crises we have created in almost every sector of human activity. We must work together and save our life support system before it is too late. Our currently unsustainable behavior can only end in tragedy

Lifepod A s t ra t e g i c g l o b a l r e c o v e r y t o o l The Lifepod sustainable recovery strategy is the result of my involvement in sustainable community design and energy breakthroughs over the last twelve years. I began to realize that building even hundreds of sustainable communities worldwide would not solve the economic or environmental problems faced by the vast majority of humanity. I also discovered that there were two primary mistakes at the heart of most of the global crises we face. This is explained in my website, http://

cureforglobalcrises.weebly.com/

The Lifepod is designed to provide portable, sustainable, off grid conversion of existing homes and communities at no cost. At the heart of this system is an abundant energy source and science that is vital for our future survival.

I came to realize that we desperately need a sustainable solution for modifying existing homes and communities, since this is where the vast majority of humanity lives. What if any home could be modified to provide all basic energy, food and water needs indefinitely, becoming fully sustainable and off grid? Was there actually a way to achieve this at no cost? What about dealing with environmental or economic disasters? How do you still protect your family if you all have to abandon your home? These are the questions that led to the Lifepod solution. By integrating cutting edge breakthroughs in energy, automated organic food growth and water extraction technologies into a single portable modular system, the Lifepod can produce all energy, food and drinking water needs for a family indefinitely from a small 7' x 12' trailer. This decentralized approach can provide security in any location or climate. More importantly, it can be deployed at no cost, since the monthly savings in food and energy are significantly greater than the monthly cost of purchase.

Basics

•Energy •Food

•Water

Vision

My goal was to find a way to solve the most global crises in the least amount of time, while enabling a grass roots transition to more sustainable sources of energy, food and water.

With a Lifepod attached to a home, advanced organic food is grown automatically in an enclosed climate controlled space – a living pantry. Insulation and an advanced lighting system provides optimal growth conditions in any climate so sunlight is not required. All fresh drinking water requirements are extracted from the air indefinitely and recycled, even in a desert climate. Power is provided by an advanced fuelless generator that easily provides all electrical needs for the home 24/7. By reducing these key issues down to a single portable system, design of both sustainable communities and conversion of existing communities becomes simple, cheap and easily achievable. This is not possible with traditional technologies, especially when it comes to energy.

Family security True family security comes down to self reliance. In affluent cultures, a centralized economy is still far too vulnerable to a variety of potential threats while in the third world, lack of basic resources cause significant stress and hardship. Even from a day to day perspective for the average American family, the stress of earning enough to pay for basic needs is considerable. If a family can automatically provide its own survival needs, then oil shortages, grid failure, drought, food shortages, terrorist attacks, hurricanes, pandemics, earthquakes or economic crises create far less threat or stress. In many areas where energy can be sold back to the grid, this system would not only cost nothing, but a considerable income could be generated. The average home in the US only uses 25th of the rated line capacity which means that at 10 cents/kwh (below the national average retail) , a Lifepod could earn over $2,500/month in energy income alone. This could be far higher in other parts of the world. Portability is also important. Even if a home must be abandoned, a self powered climate controlled Lifepod can provide all basic needs in any location or climate. It is also capable of being towed behind a small vehicle, and with a few modifications, provide a vehicle with unlimited range.

Energy and sustainable economics We now know that several critical mistakes in science are primary contributors to all current global crises. These involve basic misunderstandings of both energy and nature. We have believed that nature is competitive dominant and that energy is a limited resource that must be stored and moved around. These beliefs have created havoc at a global level. Our business and economic models have been based on the same concepts of competitive aggression and lack. We compete to the detriment of our future survival, while the concept of fuel has polluted our entire ecosystem, creating economic slavery and poverty for the vast majority. Neither concept is correct. Nature is cooperation dominant and abundant energy is available anywhere. The inevitable emergence of this knowledge and technologies will impact every area of human experience and it has already begun. However, we are now faced with an urgent and critical transition from a failing system based on the concept of fuel, to an abundance based economy, understanding that the very concept of fuel is insane. Why transport what is already everywhere?

Free, abundant energy inevitably leads to an abundance based economic system.

Transition strategy Since shifting from a competitive fuel based economy to a sustainable fuelless economy obsoletes and decentralizes many currently unsustainable infrastructures, significant job loss and job shifts are inevitable. However this is already happening in our failing economic system. Transition strategy is critical. To be clear about the term “unsustainable”, if a living system is unsustainable, it is dying. The goal was to minimize the complexity, damage and duration of that transition by enabling a family to survive without outside assistance while quietly introducing the primary elements of a sustainable economy based on corrected physics of energy and resource abundance. This synergistic approach enables economic transition with minimum disruption in any climate, economy or culture. By protecting the family unit at no cost, the basic ingredients for a decentralized, cooperative dominant culture and economy can emerge with minimum disruption.

There are many levels to the deployment strategy. Each breakthrough technology employed can also creates a domino effect of potential markets, from transportation to healthcare. The technology behind the energy generators obsoletes all other sources of energy at any scale with far less cost and use of resources. Advanced food and water technologies revolutionize all areas of agriculture, health and water use. The heating and cooling technologies apply to all markets requiring temperature manipulation or filtration. Advanced health technologies can be integrated into food production, water extraction, lighting, air treatment and even construction materials. Waste recovery technologies have applications in mining, sewage treatment, landfill recapture and material science.

By justifying and integrating all these capabilities into a single scalable, modular approach, various capabilities can emerge naturally in various markets, rather than trying to compete directly in areas that may be highly resistant to change. Small scale portable food production does not appear to pose an immediate threat to the energy or transportation industry for example.

Micro sustainability

The future capability of the Lifepod approach comes from miniaturization. With a scaled down generator, a small bottle can constantly extract and purify water from air so that it always provides life support. This is possible in even the driest climate and removes nothing that is not returned to the environment. The principle is similar to a dehumidifier. The same bottle can also process and program the water for health and even grow enough algae based nutrients using advanced lighting for an individual to survive. This life saving personal device could be airlifted and dropped by the millions in disaster and refugee situations. The various technologies required to accomplish this already exist.

Where this all leads Removing scarcity helps eliminate poverty and reduce violence. Affluence stabilizes population growth. Consuming food and water that benefits from the latest health technologies can dramatically reduces risk and cost of illness and suffering. Reducing the need to work for basic survival removes many of the expenses and stress of living in any economy or culture. Corrected “fuelless abundance” physics reduces dependance on centralized infrastructures and gives us access to the resources of our solar system. This dramatically expands available human habitats, both on and off planet while reducing the stress of current population levels on an already overloaded global ecosystem. The implications are massive. Imagine just the obsolescence of roads (ecological barriers) and the resultant effect on ecosystems. This goes hand in hand with this revelation. http://www.ted.com/talks/allan_savory_how_to_green_the_world_s_deserts_and_reverse_climate_change.html

The Lifepod addresses all of these issues with a simple direct solution. As a concept, it is not tied to any particular size or approach, as a trailer, closet, backpack, raft or airdropped self inflating structure. It is a concept of decentralized portable survivability that can adapt to the needs of each situation and habitat, while taking advantage of mass produced modular components. The Lifepod can help resolve disasters, poverty, starvation, healthcare costs, drought, domestic and community survival, family security, economic instability and environmental recovery. It's primary function is to enable sustainable transition and personal security at no cost. This creates a powerful combination of solutions for sustainable economic and environmental recovery at any scale. © The Waters Trust, 2013, All Rights Reserved

The Birthing of Global Light Center In meetings all across the country with every type of person, in group after group, the visions and future scenarios are uncanny in their similarity of theme. The sense of impending radical change is accompanied by a deep sense of inner peace on the other side of the upheaval. The global view that has emerged is this: By 2052, we will be far fewer in population but feeling incredibly peaceful, safe and blessed by life itself. By then, our world will have transformed into more of a water world with our intuition rather than the mind leading the way. Some life altering event (or series of events) happen somewhere in the neighborhood of 2017. The clarion call to wake-up has already gone out, which finds us making clear and purposeful decisions to leave all the clutter of consumer-driven living behind. By 2024, most find themselves totally immersed in nature with water, water everywhere. A deep sense of gratitude, accompanied by a profound sense of being loved by our creator is the predominant feeling. Our global mission was birthed into form from this very same visioning process. As a channel and inter-dimensional traveler, these non-linear ways of seeing are an integral part of my life, and serve as the key to visioning the way ahead. Components of the Centers As we spread out around the world, we are leveraging global resources and aligning with other visionaries and groups to build a series of Centers in key locations on every continent. The Centers are being designed around the question, “How do we want to live?” It is the answer to this question that will determine what goes into the design, construction, and operation of the Centers. Components of a Center include: • Residential retreat centers • Self-sustaining eco-villages * Conference and meeting spaces • Primary and secondary schools * Organic and soil preserving farming practices and humane animal husbandry • Onsite food production * Water purification and treatment facilities * Air purification and recirculation systems for enclosed spaces * Electricity generation plants using green energy resources, such as wind and solar

Some of the Centers are being anchored in as fully selfcontained, self-sufficient biospheres capable of supporting life for up to 12 to 27 years. Biospheres such as the one located in Cornwall in Southwest England offer pristine living environments for enhancing wellbeing, restoring and maintaining health and for high-yield food production. They are built to withstand the forces of nature and to serve as frequency stabilizers for the human technologists who harmonize the human body’s energy field with that of the Earth. The Light Centers, once fully in place and operational, all working together in oneness, are designed to neutralize and lessen the affect of these changes to the earth’s atmosphere. The embracement of human technology will also serve to enhance humanity’s capacity to adapt to the acceleration of the human body to not only adapt to new atmospheric conditions but to revitallize.

While the foundation of all the Centers is frequency specific with all sharing basic components, each Center is being designed to fit the unique design and requirements of the community.

The Timelin The first three Centers have already been anchored into the holographic field. The activations of the grid lines have been completed, and we are now identifying the specific building locations. The first three are expected to become operational by 2017 with the teaching center operational by mid-2014. The regions of these first three Centers are: 1) Tennessee / North Carolina (the ancient territories of the indigenous Cherokee), 2) (Four Corners (Colorado / New Mexico / Utah / Arizona of North America), 3) Northwestern Montana in the American northwest. The rest of the Centers will be established through a series of mega community-building events and festivals designed to anchor the frequencies into the holographic field then to evolve the infrastructure into permanent Centers of Light. Once the festival is over, the permanent structures designed to model community will remain. Grassroots visionaries who feel called to anchor these Centers as growing communities will be supported by the very tools and processes learned in the festival with continued support by the global network. As you can well imagine, this is not an effort of one but of many working together as one.

The Focus of One Bene ts Al The Centers are built on energetic grid lines representing special requirements that serve to balance and stabilize the whole. Some serve as refugee camps, at first, followed by blossoming communities. Some focus on revitalizing the energy body complete with biospheric chambers to allow the blood brain barrier of the human body to adjust to a radical shift in oxygen levels. Others are focused on permaculture and food production, others on sustainable free energy solutions, while other Centers are complete under ocean cities with no need of outside support. The specific focus of one serves to enliven and benefit the other Centers. The one foundational element in common is the frequency and total connection of the core unified field of resonance. The practice of honoring the inner voice is the key to our ability to balance and stabilize this new earth grid of consciousness that is forming the foundation for birthing these new Centers of light. Throughout the ages, the indigenous peoples of the world have embodied a spirit of deep connection and commitment to maintaining the viability of the Earth for future generations. Honoring the wisdom of the indigenous, we recognize that there is no issue more important or compelling than that of ensuring a sustainable world for future generations. Our clear calling is to provide this highest service to humanity and to foster the level of cohesion that occurs when all are working together as one.

Missio

Mark Torgeson is a healer and classically trained pianist who provides music for transformation. Carol Fitzpatrick is a channel and serves as the visionholder for the Centers' global mission.

Our mission is, first and foremost, to model the new paradigm of oneness in all that we do. We work to strengthen the bond of our human family and model a group decision-making processes that honors the inner voice in the context of manifesting a collective higher purpose. We demonstrate how to balance and harmonize polarities while also amplifying a group's core vibration. As we move about the world, we are finding the alignments with other visionaries and groups who are building new paradigm communities. We facilitate visioning sessions for the purpose of supporting others to discover our shared goals reflecting the needs, shared values and aspirations of the entire community. The primary phase of our work is well underway: the global mobilization of advanced human technologies that embrace empathic / telekinetic communication for activating higher consciousness and for the building of centers that model sustainable oneness. The Centers serve as magnets for implementing advanced human, healing and green technologies, as well as environmental design.

Carol Fitzpatrick and Mark Torgeson are the founders of Center for Planetary Awakening The Center offers support and training for visionaries and cultural entrepreneurs who are aligning in oneness for building a new grid of light. Vortex energy has been discovered to be the foundational basis for all life. Examples of the torus shape in nature range from the electromagnetic elds generated by the human heart, to the basic shape of a tree, to the geometric structure of the universe The vortex is the mainstay of implosion technology and the toroidal vortex in particular is considered to be the main mechanism responsible for imbuing water with its critical ecological functions of renewal and life support Vortices are the energy transformers and energy accumulators in nature. A vortex can increase the vibrational state of any electromagnetic frequency and it can restore the natural energy patterns to something that has been corrupted. Vortex ow technology provides the ability to remediate all forms of pollution in water by transforming the electromagnetic frequencies of the water back to their healthy state

Inside the Rainmaker

How Our Vortex Flow Design Works To Structure Water The Rainmaker product goes a step beyond by correcting and enhancing the electromagnetic frequencies of the water; health, vitality and productivity which is essential for animals, plants, people and the environment. It is a natural energy generator that corrects corrupt electromagnetic frequencies and enhance natural electromagnetic frequencies A fundamental property of crystalline substances, including both water and glass, is the absorption of all electromagnetic frequencies within their eld of in uence The Rainmaker’s silica spheres are intentionally charged with bene cial electromagnetic frequencies during every step of the manufacturing process. The silica spheres are treated with fullcolor LED lights in addition to subtle energy frequencies from marine plants and proteins using a scalar wave generator. The water is literally transformed by the energy it absorbs as it passes through the vortex chamber The water molecules interact with and exchange electromagnetic information and energy with the silica matrix thereby becoming electrically charged Rotation of the water through the toroidal vortex not only structures the water, but also creates a biomagnetic eld which further enhances the potency of the life-giving elements,

Emoto’s Water Memory Tests

Dr. Jacques Benveniste, a French medical researcher, discovered certain scienti c properties of water which defy explanation by the tenets of mainstream physics. The science he developed, Digital Biology, is based upon two breakthrough observations he proved in experiments that have since been duplicated by other scientists

Water, the mother of life, is not a simple substance, as was previously thought, but a complex, responsive liquid. It can be “activated” by signals from the environment and by information from our minds and emotions, such that it is more like a living organism. Although the number of molecules of the human body are 99% water, biology and medicine have focused almost exclusively on the 1%–the DNA, protein, carbohydrates, and fats– while largely ignoring the water of life. Indeed, the role of water in life has been marginalized. Loss of water is the greatest change in aging, which is poorly understood, too. Dr. Rubik has been conducting research on water to understand how water changes in response to applied electromagnetic elds; the memory of water and how to change it; how subtle energy treatments alter water; how energy healers interact with water; and optimal drinking waters for high level wellness

1. If a substance is placed in water, the water will carry the memory of that substance even when no measurable molecules of the original substance remain. The water absorbs the electromagnetic frequencies of the substance and will retain this energetic memory even if the original substance is subsequently removed from the water; an 2. The molecules of any given substance have a spectrum of electromagnetic frequencies that can be digitally recorded with a computer, then played back into untreated water (using an electronic transducer), causing the exposed water to behave as if the actual substance were physically present What Dr. Benveniste's work proves is that it is not enough to simply remove toxins and contaminants from water via ltration, distillation, reverse osmosis or chemical treatment. To restore water to its healthy, life-giving state, the electromagnetic frequencies of any harmful substances must be removed or ameliorated…and this is precisely what the Green eld Naturals Water Structuring Unit accomplishes as water ows through the device in a series of toroidal vortexes

The Future I s H e r e

By J.J. Hurtak, Ph.D., Ph.D., and Desiree Hurtak, Ph.D.

With proper care and respect, sustainable communities hearing the

‘Cry’ of Mother Earth can work with the resources of the ‘Living Earth’ to provide a high quality of life for themselves and demonstrate a holistic balance for everyone. The developments of the last one hundred years surpass the range registered in the previous twenty centuries. Unfortunately, the speed of this growth has not been orderly and there has been no consciousness directed toward preserving our planet’s environment, from its ozone layer to its subterranean aquatic strata.

In order to maintain a balance between

humanity and our planetary environment, there must be a real consciousness shift, so that we may understand who we are, and at the

.

same time preserve other species

It is now time to do our part as ‘care-givers’ not only for Mother Earth, but for each other, to show respect for the intrinsic

The rapid growth of pollution-producing industries, major climate change effects on agriculture and society, diminishing food sources in the oceans, nonrenewable fossil-energy systems, and destruction of rain forest resources are some of the problems urging us to evolve a multi-level map of adaptation for self-suf ciency and sustainability as we enter the second decade of the 21st Century. A closer look at what is being done by those aware of nature’s limitations suggests that alternative strategies are available for those who are willing to work together in a horizontal “network” structure, taking advantage of breakthroughs in energy technologies and using social cohesiveness on the grass roots level to help alleviate the pressures of a world on the brink of ecological collapse. We can nurture our biocapacity to be sustainable and understand the great scope for improvement in our relationship with the ‘sacredness’ of Mother Earth. This begins by rst reviewing our own actions, to be sure they are consistent with our professed concern for ecology and justice. We must learn to support an economy based on respect for ecological integrity and the satisfaction of basic human needs, and therefore the rejection of wasteful, excessive consumption. It also means removing ourselves from the economic concept of unlimited growth for the sake of material acquisition, a primary concern now facing our planetary community.

Life is education, and there is still much to learn. The same is true of communication, which means nothing if words are not put into practice. In this short review, therefore, we will begin with a focus on our third element, that of food.

Food Sustainability

fi

.

.

Every sustainable community needs to grow its own food, not only for its own population, but as an extension to others in alleviating hunger and poverty. Often the best solution is organic production, based on a system of farming that replenishes soil fertility without the use of chemical pesticides and fertilizers, synthetic hormones, genetic engineering, or other ecologically unsound practices The Academy For Future Science has worked in Mexico in conjunction with Conciencia e Investigación Para La Salud (Health Awareness and Research www.cismexico.org/ ), a research company that has developed some singular farming methods, such as the tiered or pyramidal “permaculture” technique for small farms or single family back yard plots. Austrian farmer Sepp Holzer (www.holzeragroecology.com/) has furthered the earliest work on “permaculture” that was expounded by Australians Bill Mollison and David Holmgren and associates during the 1960s and 1970s. Holmgren in his book Permaculture: Principles and Pathways Beyond Sustainability (2003 http:// permacultureprinciples.com/resources/freedownloads/) presents 12 basic de ning principles behind this technique: “(1) observe and connect; (2) catch and store energy; (3) obtain a yield; (4) apply self-regulation and accept feedback; (5) use and value renewable resources and services; (6) produce no waste; (7) design from patterns to details; (8) integrate rather than segregate; (9) use small and slow solutions; (10) use and value diversity; (11) use edges and value

the marginal; and (12) creatively use and respond to change.” The above principles, which Holmgren explores in depth in his book, take us back to the originating notion of how to promote the growth of our own humanistic life in the midst of natural diversity. If we view farming as we view spiritual development, it becomes no longer simply ‘repetitive, back-breaking work’ but a movement or dance with nature. Certainly, constant maintenance involves weeding, trudging through mud in the rainy season, coping with sun and dust in dry periods, and remaining sensitive to seasonal continuity, particularly in this time of climate change. But this probably sounds much like your life as well, in whatever work that engages you

Variety is key in sustainability.

In planting its land, a community should include fruit trees and berries that will attract bees and continue for years to come. Cultivate a garden of herbs with the assistance of someone familiar with the local ora and fauna to help repel harmful insects and to assist in health and survival. Indigenous peoples all over the globe honor the great planting cycles which were used along the Nile, the Ganges, in the Oriental gardens and in the ancient mountainous communities of the Andes. We note that the people of Bali have a planting and harvesting ritual which has ensured good crops on the island for generations. When modern agriculturists came in to “assist” with new techniques, the crops failed badly Of course, two primary factors necessary for successful food production are good sun and suf cient water. Water is

fl

The Academy has also worked with circle cultivation in South Africa, as designed and developed by Anthony Trowbridge. Here the emphasis is on a sequential process of crop rotation and companion planting. By allowing plants to grow and reseed in one relatively small circle, with a variety of different plant circles around it, the breeding of seeds takes place naturally rather than by arti cial means. This, in turn, improves the plant’s genetic af nity with the soil in which it grew, while also increasing resistance to pests and diseases — a particular bene t in small-scale farming

critical for plant growth, and in this everchanging climate we can no longer rely completely on the weather. A clean water supply is a necessity for any community with even a minimal amount of agriculture

A third factor is soil. Topsoil in rural agricultural areas has always been a primary issue in the USA, concurrent with water availability. Many agriculturalists are now developing methods of restoring damaged soils with the necessary microbial biota. Traditional ways of creating topsoil, such as worm farms, work well on a small scale, but new solutions are needed for larger quantities of topsoil. Probably one of the most successful applications for building topsoil comes from a “No-Till use of multi-species cover crops,” as created at the Menoken Farm in North Dakota and used by several farms from Kansas to Colorado (studied by Jay Fuhrer of the Natural Resources Conservation Service and at Washington State University at Puyallup puyallup.wsu.edu/soilmgmt/SusAg.html). They have used a “warm-season cocktail” of plants which could include cowpea and soybean, where the legumes x the nitrogen; millet and sun ower, to introduce high carbon content into the soil; and radish and turnips to secure deep nutrients. The same can be done in the cool-season, where the mix could include oat and millet along with lesser amounts of turnips, radish, and red clover.

fl

We also want to mention brie y the work of our colleague Jim Dilatosso and his agricultural sound machines called Agrosonic. This is similar to Dan Carlson’s Sonic Bloom technology (sonicbloom.info/), which realizes that we cannot grow crops without the sounds of nature, and attempts to recreate the sonic vibrations of insects and birds to help stimulate plant growth by vibrationally activating the ATP cycle. All these achievements can lead to wellworking eco-villages or cooperatives created around green strategies in both city and countryside, with ethical and spiritual values included in order to reestablish an earthly Garden of Eden.

Energy Strategies

fi

.

fi

fi

fi

fi

fl

fi

fi

fi

The Academy For Future Science continues to work with advanced forms of energy technologies which we hope will help transform our society and perhaps the world, as each community seeks to become not only food- but energy-independent, the speci c technologies chosen should depend upon the region. Wind technologies are offering new blade designs, and there are also innovative solar technologies. The solar industry now produces lower cost thin- lm solar, produced on a roll similar to that used in papermaking. Although mostly applied to standard square panels like those used on roofs, some examples are more inventive, especially those that use a non-silicon semiconductor material. These devices use a ne layer of semiconducting material which includes copper, indium, gallium selenide (CIGS), or cadmium telluride, at a fraction of the cost. Although elements including silicon are costly, the thinness of the cell makes it cheaper in terms of material costs. Compared with crystalline silicon, thin- lm technology uses only about 1/100th the amount of silicon per watt of electricity produced. Several companies pioneered the t e c h n o l o g y, b u t w i t h C h i n a i n t h e manufacturing game it has been very dif cult for other companies to come forward. Among them, PowerFilm Solar (www.power lmsolar.com/ )is trying to place their solar product in everything from metal

roofs to membrane systems to architectural fabric. Solar panels are becoming a smart addition to any survival kit, especially in regions struck by catastrophes such as earthquakes, where immediate light and workable power systems could accelerate recovery. The solar industry continues to grow and is expected to triple in size over the coming years. Thin- lm technologies now allow solar energy to be placed anywhere — a laptop, a cell phone, even a camping tent (see for example Eureka Solar Intent and PowerFilm Solar). In addition to solar, communities should consider biomass and water generators depending upon their needs and locations. Trash-to-gas can be accomplished on a small scale, with garbage from the community burned to generate biogas for cooking and other gas needs. If the community is lucky enough to have a source of running water on its property, small water generators (microhydro turbines) can be used for supplemental energy needs. A signi cant water ow may be able to generate the basic power needs of an entire house

In addition to greenhouses for agriculture, the houses we live in should be environmentally suitable. Berm homes with solar collector windows can reduce energy needs, for example. Those who are concerned about energy futures should have a back-up power system, as well as cooking units (e.g., “solar cookers” www.solarcookers.org/index.html) and portable water ltration systems that do not require normal energy technologies. Homes should always have a good pantry or food storage area with insulation to keep the temperature 50 degrees F. or less. A good idea is to establish a timetable or a list of perishable foods being saved in storage places for anywhere from three months to two years or more. It is also good to have a seven year seed package of various seeds suitable for your land, sealed in hermetic containers. Remember to acquire a good radio for communications and always be willing to share with your neighbors Within the house or greenhouse, one can easily create a sprout farm with no expertise required. A suf cient supply of health remedies and some skills in herbology are also important in treating health problems that could arise

fi

It is also good

Group Consciousness All the above will mean little if a true community consciousness cannot be created. We can celebrate our awareness of how to move into a state of being that does not violate nature and creates an ongoing prosperous future, but evolving a spiritual family takes an equally serious commitment In a community, the consciousness of the whole must prevail over the interest of the parts, yet a psychology of Love and understanding needs to be felt by each member. There has to be an understanding that each one is not perfect, yet each is unique and helpful to the greater whole. Compassion and tolerance have to be constantly employed, and each individual needs to take self-re ection seriously when contentions arise Consequently, in order to build the spirit of unity within the community, there should be a daily practice which can include contemplation and meditation where everyone in the spiritual family joins together. During this time, songs should be used to maintain the vibrations of protection around the community, to build healthy personal relationships, and to promote the extension of advanced knowledge and wisdom to others in the area who are attracted by the music. Additionally, each community should have a daily and healthy regimen of exercise and ‘work-karma’ spelled out for everyone. In building a sustainable community, there is also the building up of a multi-level network with members who have worked in businesses, community service or have shown mature skills in agricultural and engineering so that a plan of action can be accomplished. NGO (non-governmental organization) stakeholders such as the Academy and our sister Foundation should be consulted at various stages, as parts of a proven policy-making

process familiar with guiding policy into successful practice Families should be encouraged to assist their local communities and communicate their knowledge of local ecology and culture as a basis for rede ning development and in uencing positive policies. Each group should help in shelters, meal centers, and other positive community projects. We are reminded of old ways of living, of communities like the Essenes, who learned to survive in the desert, living a life characterized by simplicity and the appreciation for all life. Sometimes there will be the need for sincere people to be willing to expand their immediate family to live together in available rooms, or even use garage spaces that can be legally converted into extra rooms. We must also af rm that the quality of life should no longer be measured by the quantity of our possessions, but by the quality of Earth-human relationships. The other side of the new reality is this: We are all co-creators of the solution. According the The Keys of Enoch® (by Dr. J.J. Hurtak www.keysofenoch.org ), we are all coparticipants in the shift of consciousness — from “I” to “We”, from the local to the planetary, from the myth of unlimited consumerism to the reality of being a cell in a large body of living intelligence — humanity. In this transition, the inner-breathing of all life links the Earth to Adam in a new relationship of life, as it is said in Genesis, Adam (human being) and Adamah (earth) come together, Human with humus. In all of this you will be able to nd your true purpose and understand why you are here at this time. The concept of unlimited freedom of the individual to consume, guided only by the forces of the market, will come to be seen as a grave lack of understanding of who we are as humans upon planet Earth

conclusion Many of us are feeling the need to play a greater role in trying to help the planet. Some, not all, are being drawn into communities. By making a head start to connect as a unity of positive force, pushing the envelope and working for a brighter future, we can demonstrate a sincere caring for all. Clearly, we are evolving right now as a species. It is time to acquire a grass-roots awareness in order to shift consciousness into a new paradigm. Technology can help the planet, but alone it cannot save it. We must increase our awareness of our role as care-givers of Mother Earth. If we ignore her entirely, as many of us have done, she will react in ways we don’t want to experience. And “Father Sky” is reacting as well If we remain unconscious of planetary change and what we are doing to the planet, humanity’s future looks to be bleak and short. A new mental gestalt is required, in the form and structure of our cities and

towns, in individuality seeking partnership in eco-communities, with new instruments of education, as we enter a new era of global cooperation on the grass-roots level that is clearly post-modern. We have tremendous gifts, and if we are going to take a quantum leap into the future, we should be doing this together. The best solution to the negative aspects of Climate Change is to see not the end of the world, but the beginning of a new way of cosmic evolution. And with that collective work, living in a non-polluting community, self-suf cient in energy usage, food, communication, education and research, create a life more suitable to the human being, especially during the changes and processes of disorder. We don’t have to get “back to nature” to realize that nature is all around us, and that it is of utmost importance for us to remain in balance with it. Let the divine harvest keep us positive in all that we cultivate.

Biomimicry A CONVERSATION WITH JANINE BENYUS Janine Benyu Janine Benyus is a biologist, innovation consultant, and author of six books, including Biomimicry: Innovation Inspired by Nature. In Biomimicry, she names an emerging discipline that seeks sustainable solutions by emulating nature’s designs and processes (for instance, solar cells that mimic

What do you mean by the term "biomimicry"

fossils, and what surrounds us is the secret to survival.

Biomimicry (from bios, meaning life, and mimesis, meaning to imitate) is a new discipline that studies nature’s best ideas and then imitates these designs and processes to solve human problems. Studying a leaf to invent a better solar cell is an example. I think of it as “innovation inspired by nature.”

Like the viceroy butter y imitating the monarch, we humans are imitating the best adapted organisms in our habitat. We are learning, for instance, how to harness energy like a leaf, grow food like a prairie, build ceramics like an abalone, selfmedicate like a chimp, create color like a peacock, compute like a cell, and run a business like a hickory forest.

The core idea is that nature, imaginative by necessity, has already solved many of the problems we are grappling with. Animals, plants, and microbes are the consummate engineers. They have found what works, what is appropriate, and most important, what lasts here on Earth. This is the real news of biomimicry: After 3.8 billion years of research and development, failures are

Can you give us an example of the kinds of problems we can solve through biomimicry Biomimics are looking to nature for speci c advice: How will we grow our food? How will we harness energy? How will we make our materials? How will we keep ourselves healthy? How will we store what we learn? How will we conduct business without drawing down nature’s capital? Let’s take a look at one of these categories: materials. Right now, we use what’s called “heat, beat, and treat” to make materials. Kevlar, for instance, the stuff in ak jackets, is our premier, high-tech material. Nothing stronger or tougher. But how do we make it? We pour petroleum-derived molecules into a pressurized vat of concentrated sulfuric acid, and boil it at several hundred degrees Fahrenheit. We then subject it to high pressures to force the bers into alignment as we draw them out. The energy input is extreme and the toxic byproducts are odious

Nature takes a different approach. Because an organism makes materials like bone or collagen or silk right in its own body, it doesn’t make sense to “heat, beat, and treat.” A spider, for instance, produces a waterproof silk that beats the pants off Kevlar for toughness and elasticity. Ounce for ounce, it’s ve times stronger than steel! But the spider manufactures it in water, at room temperature, using no high heats, chemicals, or pressures. Best of all, it doesn’t need to drill offshore for petroleum; it takes ies and crickets at one end and produces this miracle material at the other. In a pinch, the spider can even eat part of its old web to make a new one

Imagine what this kind of a processing strategy would do for our ber industry! Renewable raw materials, great bers, and negligible energy and waste. We obviously have a lot to learn from an organism that has been making silk for some 380 million years The truth is, organisms have managed to do everything we want to do, without guzzling fossil fuels, polluting the planet, or mortgaging their future. What better models could there be Your book expresses a sense of urgency. Why is it crucial to explore biomimicry now We humans are at a turning point in our evolution. Though we began as a small population in a very large world, we have expanded in number and territory until we are now bursting the seams of that world. There are too many of us, and our habits are unsustainable Having reached the limits of nature’s tolerance, we are nally shopping for answers to the question: “How can we live on this home planet without destroying it? Just as we are beginning to recognize all there is to learn from the natural world, our models are starting to blink out—not just a few scattered organisms, but entire ecosystems. A new survey by the National Biological Service found that one-half of all native ecosystems in the United States are degraded to the point of endangerment. That makes biomimicry more than just a new way of viewing and valuing nature. It’s also a race to the rescue

Velcro

Well, actually, biomimicry as an approach to innovation is not new. Indigenous peoples relied heavily on the lessons and examples of the organisms around them. Alaskan hunters still stalk seals in exactly the same way that polar bears do, for instance. Many early Western inventions, such as the airplane and the telephone, also took their inspiration directly from nature

“Biomimicry is learning from, and then emulating, life's genius. It's the

What I do see is biomimicry cropping up again after a long hiatus of hubris brought on in part by the “better living through chemistry” era.

process of becoming nature's apprentice.”

As we learned to synthesize what we needed from petrochemicals, we began to believe we didn’t need nature, and that our ways were superior. Now, with the advent of genetic engineering, some of us have come to fancy ourselves as gods, riding a juggernaut of technology that will grant us independence from the natural world.

Janine Benyus

The rest of us, of course, are nding it hard to ignore the emergency sirens wailing all around us. Here at the beginning of the twenty rst century, environmental reality is setting in, pushing us to nd saner and more sustainable ways to live on Earth. Equally important is what is pulling us towards biomimicry—that is, our deepening knowledge of how the natural world works. Biological knowledge is doubling every ve years, growing like a pointillist painting toward a recognizable whole. For the rst time in history, we have the instruments—the scopes and satellites— to feel the shiver of a neuron in thought or watch in color as a star is born. When we combine this intensi ed gaze with the sheer amount of scienti c knowledge coming into focus, we suddenly have the capacity to mimic nature like never before

Wes Jackson (The Land Institute) is studying prairies as a model for an agriculture that features edible, perennial polycultures and that would sustain, rather than strain, the land. Thomas and Ana Moore and Devins Gust (University of Arizona) are studying how a leaf captures energy, in hopes of making a molecular-sized solar cell. Their lightsensitive “pentad” mimics a photosynthetic reaction center, creating a tiny, sunpowered battery. Jeffrey Brinker (Sandia National Lab) has mimicked the abalone’s self-assembly process to create an ultra-tough optically clear glass in a low-temperature, silent manufacturing process J. Herbert Waite (University of California Santa Barbara) is studying the blue mussel, which attaches itself to rocks via an adhesive that can do what ours can’t—cure and stick underwater. Various teams are attempting to mimic this underwater glue Peter Steinberg (Biosignal) has created an anti-bacterial compound that mimics the sea purse. This red algae keeps bacteria from landing on surfaces by jamming their communication signals with an environmentally friendly compound called furanone Bruce Roser (Cambridge Biostability) has developed a heat-stable vaccine storage that eliminates the need for costly refrigeration. The process is based on a natural process that enables the resurrection plant to remain in a desiccated state for years. David Knight and Fritz Vollrath (Oxford University, Spinox) are mimicking the spider’s sustainable manufacturing process to nd a way for humans to manufacture bers without heat or toxins

In your research for this book, you found that biomimicry is already a burgeoning scienti c eld. Who are some of the pioneers in biomimicry and what are they doing

Daniel Morse (UC Santa Barbara) has learned to mimic the silica-production process employed by diatoms. This could signal a low-energy, low-toxin route to computer components Joanna Aizenberg (Lucent) has mimicked the process by which the brittlestar selfassembles distortion-free lenses out of seawater Jay Harman (PAXscienti c) has created a super-ef cient fan blades, aerators, and propellers based on the geometry of the ow-friendly spiral found in seashells, kelp, and rams horns A. K. Geim (University of Manchester) has developed a glue-free, yet sticky, tape modeled on the dry physical adhesion of the gecko’s “setae” ---tiny bristles on their feet that adhere to surfaces through Van Der Waals forces. The sustainability potential here is in “design for disassembly.” Assembling products using gecko tape instead of glue would allow recyclers to disassemble products without adhesive contamination. Richard Wrangham (Harvard) is zeroing in on medicinal compounds useful to humans by watching chimps heal themselves with plants from nature’s medicine cabinet. Thomas Eisner (Cornell) is letting the behavior of insects tell him which plants may be good bets for new drugs. If insects ignore a leaf, he gures the plant is full of secondary compounds—defenses for the plant and drugs for us. Various researchers in Industrial Ecology are looking for ways to apply nature’s lessons of economy, ef ciency, cooperation, and rootedness to the marketplace. Closed-loop eco-parks, patterned after mature ecosystems like redwood forests, are now being built in Chattanooga, Brownsville, Baltimore, and Cape Charles Jeremy Mabbitt (Codefarm) and numerous other companies are mimicking natural selection as an optimizing tool in computer software called genetic algorithms.

of different plant species would slow down pest outbreaks

Natural systems agriculture looks at a landscape and says “What grows here naturally?” In the midwest, it’s the prairie. For 5000 years, the prairie has done a great job of holding the soil, resisting pests and weeds, and sponsoring its own fertility, all without our help. The secret of the prairie is that it is composed of perennial plants growing in polycultures (many species in the same eld)

Though radical, this idea of breeding a prairie you can eat is quite realistic, when you consider that most of our crops were bred from perennial wild relatives. Over ten thousand years, we turned them into annuals and narrowed their genetic pools. So now we are looking to widen those genetic pools and breed perennial traits back into edible grains

Unfortunately, we can’t eat a prairie. Over the last 100 years, we have plowed up the prairie and replaced it with our own agriculture, based on annual plants grown in monocultures (one species for miles). Unlike the prairie’s perennial polycultures, these annual monocultures do need our help. Using annuals means we have to plow each year, which leads to soil erosion. To make up for poorer soil, we pour on tons of chemical fertilizers. To protect our all-you-can-eat monocultures from pests, we heap on oilbased pesticides. It works out to about 10 kilocalories of petroleum to produce one kilocalorie of food

The way to get off this “treadmill of vigilance”, says Wes Jackson of the Land Institute, is to breed perennial crops that we can eat and grow them in a prairie-like polyculture. Jackson’s edible prairie would not merely be new; it would be the polar opposite of what we have now. The plants would overwinter, so we wouldn’t need to plow and plant every year, or worry about soil erosion. We wouldn’t need to add synthetic fertilizers because nitrogen- xing plants would be in the mix. We wouldn’t need to spray biocides because the presence of lots

One of the more radical ideas put forth in your book pertains to a new form of agriculture that models itself on plant communities that are indigenous to the ecosystem. How realistic is this? And is this really new

What we would have, instead of an extractive agriculture that mimics industry, is a selfrenewing agriculture that mimics nature

Right now, natural systems agriculture is at the Kitty Hawk stage—the researchers have proven the agricultural equivalent of drag and lift. Working alone, they will need 25-50 years of wind tunnel tests before domestic prairies can be planted in the Breadbasket. If they get support, the shift could come a lot sooner. It depends on what kind of research we as a society choose to fund. As Chuck Hassebrook of the Rural Affairs Center points out, research is a form of social planning What will prevent humans from, as you say, "stealing nature's thunder and using it in the ongoing campaign against life? That’s a good question, because any technology, even if it’s a technology inspired by nature, can be used for good or bad. The airplane, for instance, was inspired by bird ight; a mere eleven years after we invented it, we were bombing people with it. As author Bill McKibben says, our tools are always employed in the service of an ideology. Our ideology—the story we tell ourselves about who we are in the universe— has to change if we are to treat the living Earth with respect

Right now we tell ourselves that the Earth was put here for our use. That we are at the top of the pyramid when it comes to Earthlings. But of course this is a myth. We’ve had a run of spectacular luck, but we are not necessarily the best survivors over the long haul. We are not immune to the laws of natural selection, and if we overshoot the carrying capacity of the Earth, we will pay the consequences. Practicing ethical biomimicry will require a change of heart. We will have to climb down from our pedestal and begin to see ourselves as simply a species among species, as one vote in a parliament of 30 million. When we accept this fact, we start to realize that what is good for the living Earth is good for us as well If we agree to follow this ethical path, the question becomes: how do we judge the “rightness” of our innovations? How do we make sure that they are life-promoting? Here, too, I think biomimicry can help. The best way to scrutinize our innovations is to compare them to what has come before. Does this strategy or design have a precedence in nature? Has something like it been time-tested long enough to wear a seal of approval If we use what nature has done as a lter, we stop ourselves from, for instance, transferring genes from one class of organism to another. We wouldn’t put ounder genes into a strawberry plant, for instance. Biomimicry says: if it can’t be found in nature, there is probably a good reason for its absence. It may have been tried, and long ago edited out of the population. Natural selection is wisdom in action

In the business chapter, you talk about the need to “shift our niche.” What do you mean by that?

A “niche” is a profession in the ecosystem. Right now, we humans are lling a pioneering niche. We are acting like the weeds in a newly turned farmer’s eld. These weeds move into a sun- lled space and use nutrients and water as quickly as they can, turning them into plant bodies and plenty of seeds. They are annuals; they don’t bother to put down winter roots or recycle because their moment in the sun is short. Within a few years, they’ll be shaded out by the more ef cient, long-lasting perennial bushes and shrubs. That’s why they produce so many seeds; they’re always on to the next sundrenched horn of plenty Back before our world was full, and we always had somewhere else to go, this colonizing “Type I” strategy allowed us to stay one step ahead of reality. These days, when we’ve gone everywhere there is to go, we have to forget about colonizing and learn to close the loops Closing the loops means trying to emulate the natural communities that know how to stay put without consuming their ecological capital. Mature ecosystems such as oak-hickory forests are masters of optimizing, rather than maximizing, throughput. They recycle all their wastes, use energy and materials ef ciently, and diversify and cooperate to use the habitat without bankrupting it. Ecologists call these Type III communities. Industrial ecologists are trying to glean lessons from natural communities to actually shift our economy from Type I to Type III. From ragweeds to redwood forests. The latest business consultants in this eld are people fresh from gorilla counts and butter y surveys. I never thought I’d see the day, but it’s true: the Birkenstocks are teaching the suits

How would a Biomimetic Revolution come about? In the book I talk about one possible path to biomimicry, which is modeled after my own experience in trying to renew an aging pond. The steps are simple but profound in their implications: They are 1. Quieting human cleverness, 2. Listening to nature, 3. Echoing nature, and 4. Protecting the wellspring of good ideas through stewardship Quieting human cleverness involves the maturing of the human race, the acknowledgment that nature knows best. I think we are coming closer to this. We are seeing that our cleverness has painted us into some corners, and we are open for suggestions Listening to nature is the discovery step. It’s important that we interview the ora and fauna of the planet in an organized way. Out of the estimated 5 to 30 million living species on Earth, only about 1.4 million have been named! I would love to see us create a Biological Peace Corps where people can volunteer to inventory biodiversity for two years. I’d also love to see systematics, which is the in-depth study of animal and plant groups, become a sought-after career again. We need people who know all there is to know about particular branches of nature’s tree This step of closely listening to nature is not just for scientists, however. We all need to become ecologically literate, and the best way to do that is to immerse ourselves in nature, in childhood and as adults

Echoing nature is where we actually try to mimic what we discover. Echoing nature will take a cross-fertilization of ideas. The technologists who invent products and systems need to interact with biologists so

they can match human needs with nature’s solutions. Task forces and formal societies would allow for periodic interactions, but for more permanent collaborations, we should design university courses that teach biomimetic design I can also see using the Internet as a place to store our information. A giant database of biological knowledge would serve as an innovation matchmaking service. An engineer charged with designing a new desalination device, for instance, could easily review the strategies and root-membrane blueprints of the mangrove—a tree that lters seawater with its solar-powered roots. This “Google for Nature’s Solutions” would organize biological research by functional search term (in the vocabulary of designers and engineers). It would place life’s wellspring of evolved ideas where they belong---in the public domain---so the ideas themselves cannot be patented. This is a gigantic, but important, rst step to move ideas from biology to human systems design Stewardship of wild and settled places should be the natural outgrowth of a biomimetic worldview. Once we see nature as a source of inspiration, a mentor, our relationship with the living world changes. We realize that the only way to keep learning from nature is to safeguard naturalness, which is the source of those good ideas How would a Biomimetic Revolution change our lives “Doing it nature’s way” has the potential to change the way we grow food, make materials, harness energy, heal ourselves, store information, and conduct business. In each case, nature would be model, measure, and mentor

“Doing it nature’s way”

Connecting Award-Winning Children’s Music

Nature as measure. Beside providing the model, nature would also provide the measure —we would look to nature as a standard against which to judge the “rightness” of our innovations. Are they life promoting? Do they t in? Will they last

as subject to natural selection. The real question is not “Is this product or behavior natural?” but rather, “Is it well-adapted to life on earth over the long haul?” Anything that we design—a product, a process, or a policy--has to ultimately pass muster in the biological realm. It has to help us thrive, but it also has to keep the habitat in tact for our successors. A robin building a nest and an architect building a building should have the same concern: “How will the chicks fare here? When you talk about how we can apply biomimicry to product design, you point to the difference between shallow and deep biomimicry. What you mean

Nature as mentor. Finally, our relationship with nature would also change. Instead of seeing nature as a source of raw materials, we would see nature as a source of ideas, as a mentor. This would change everything, ushering in a new era based not on what we can extract from nature, but on what we can learn from her.

The rst level of biomimicry is the mimicking of natural form. For instance, you may mimic the hooks and barbules in an owl’s feather to create a fabric that opens anywhere along its surface. Or you can imitate the frayed edges that grant the owl its silent ight. Copying feather design is just the beginning, because it may or may not yield something sustainable.

When we view nature as a source of ideas instead of goods, the rationale for protecting wild species and their habitats becomes selfevident. To have more people realize this is my fondest hope

Deeper biomimicry adds a second level, which is the mimicking of natural process, or how it is made. The owl feather self-assembles at body temperature without toxins or high pressures, by way of nature’s chemistry. The unfurling eld of green chemistry attempts to mimic these benign recipes.

In the end, I think biomimicry’s greatest legacy will be more than a stronger ber or a new drug. It will be gratitude, and from this, an ardent desire to protect the genius that surrounds us You emphasize in your talks that we ARE nature, but that we’re a very young species, still trying to nd our way.

As a biologist, I see us as a species among species, and that means everything we make and do is natural. When we make a product or build a building, it’s akin to a robin making a nest---it’s an extension of our bodies, and just

fi

fi

In each case, nature would provide the models: solar cells copied from leaves, steely bers woven spider-style, shatterproof ceramics drawn from mother-of-pearl, cancer cures compliments of chimpanzees, perennial grains inspired by tallgrass, computers that signal like cells, and a closed-loop economy that takes its lessons from redwoods, coral reefs, and oakhickory forests.

At the third level is the mimicking of natural ecosystems. The owl feather is gracefully nested---it’s part of an owl that is part of a forest that is part of a biome that is part of a sustaining biosphere. In the same way, our owl-inspired fabric must be part of a larger economy that works to restore rather than deplete the earth and its people. If you make a bioinspired fabric using green chemistry, but you have workers weaving it in a sweatshop, loading it onto pollution-spewing trucks, and shipping it long distances, you’ve missed the point.

You emphasize in your talks that we ARE nature, but that we’re a very young species, still trying to nd our way.

To mimic a natural system, you must ask how each product ts in—is it necessary, is it beautiful, is it part of a nourishing food web of industries, and can it be transported, sold, and reabsorbed in ways that foster a forest-like economy? If we can biomimic at all three levels—natural form, natural process, and natural system— we’ll begin to do what all well-adapted organisms have learned to do, which is to

create conditions conducive to life. Creating conditions conducive to life is not optional; it’s a rite of passage for any organism that manages to t in here over the long haul. If we want to keep coming home to this place, we’ll need to learn from our predecessors how to lter air, clean water, build soil—how to keep the habitat lush and livable. It’s what good neighbors do.

® COSMODIC Dubbed

‘Star Trek Healing Device’

COSMODIC is one of the most mysterious

healing technologies of our times.

®

COSMODIC was designed as a

"Personal Health Assistant" - a device that can solve most of the daily health problems for Home Healers and fine-tune the body "on-the-go", efficiently and naturally. It proved itself invaluable in the situations when medical help is not easily available and/or when it is needed right here, right now. Isn't that what the 21st century medicine chest in every household should have? We ®

believe, sustainable communities of the future will rely on technologies like COSMODIC to serve their health needs bringing healthcare back to where it belongs

– to each and every one of us.

®

COSMODIC devices came out of Russia somewhat 10 years ago and were quickly dubbed ‘Star Trek healing devices’ for their ability to promote not just rapid healing, but also actual ®

regeneration in the living systems. COSMODIC supports restoration on a cellular level, making the body even stronger than it was before a disease or injury occurred. ®

COSMODIC results are often miraculous – and yet, have you heard about it in the biomedicine-ruled western world? Most likely not. This is not surprising, since COSMODIC is a holistic energy healing technology based on the advances of contemporary physics. Energy healing has been around for ages making a foundation of all traditional medical systems, such as TCM and Ayurveda, yet only now getting its scientific validation. If only doctors knew more physics… When you look at the human body from a perspective of contemporary physics, you will not see a sum of replaceable parts. You will see a sophisticated self-controlling, self-regulating, and self-reproducing informational matrix that organizes and directs energy embodied in a physical form. You will see a whole, extremely dynamic, and highly adaptive selforganizing living system that constantly exchanges information, energy, and matter with its environment and evolves dealing with challenges a.k.a. disease, just as described by Ilya Prigogine in his theory of dissipative structures. They assign to Hippocrates an expression, “The art of medicine is entertaining a patient while nature takes its course.” The father of medicine was a wise man… We in the 21st century, however, can do better than just entertain. COSMODIC is an electronic system that was designed as an analog of a living ® system: self-organizing, highly adaptive and dynamic, and with one agenda –

to assist another living system in healing.

If Only Doctors Knew More Physics… ®

COSMODIC is the latest in the evolution of SCENAR technology, which was developed by a brilliant Russian scientist, Dr. Alexander Karasev, in the mid-80s for the Russian Space Research Program. We call COSMODIC devices the ‘second generation SCENARs’. COSMODIC® is a low-frequency dynamic adaptive electrical stimulator and, in essence, is a Universal Regulator of Bodily Functions that jump-start and strengthen the natural healing system of the human body. In doing this, it promotes fast recovery from a wide variety of disorders ranging from simple colds and bruises to autoimmune and degenerative diseases.

device with a wide spectrum of the body’s reactions. This ability of COSMODIC® to receive and process large quantities of information from the body also determines a new quality of its impulses. It is just like a radio station: its main wave, which has a fixed frequency, carries information in the form of various other frequencies put on top and perceived as sound. It is ‘information’ that determines the effectiveness of COSMODIC,® not the stimulation of nervous fibers, as such.

COSMODIC®directly ‘adds to healing’, carefully listening to the body and using microresonances to tune into and amplify the body’s own healing efforts. COSMODIC awakens and enhances the inherent capacity of the body to recover and regenerate on a cellular level. It is even capable of determining the exact moment when cells switch to the regeneration mode. ®

COSMODIC posses two unique features: •

The shape of the electrical impulse that resembles a natural neuro-impulse and allows the devices to TALK to the body. The FEEDBACK feature that determines it’s ability to HEAR the body.

COSMODIC® has 46 feedback channels. This allows coordination of active impulses of the

Multidimensional and rich in information COSMODIC® signals now become more regulating than stimulating. They come in bundles (called adaptive regulatory bundles), which are capable of both stimulating as well as sedating the body processes, thereby, actually mimicking the functions of the Central Nervous System (CNS). COSMODIC ® uses both central and local mechanisms to wake up the cellular memory and enhance the innate capacity of our body to recover, regenerate, and rejuvenate. The body will now REMEMBER and be able to actually REGENERATE versus just forming a scar (which is a standard body’s healing compromise). In Alexander Karasev’s view, COSMODIC works somewhat like a tuning fork. It exposes the body to a harmonious tuning system, and since the device has a ‘floating’ signal spectrum, it can tune itself into vibrations and frequencies of any organ or tissue in the body, re-establishing healthy vibrations and a coherent state of functional structures. As in any systemic interaction, the more coherent system (COSMODIC) first tunes itself into the state of a less coherent system (the bodily structure) and mirrors it blending vibrations of both systems and creating a new, stronger functional unit (microresonances in COSMODIC make it possible).

This new unit then regains the state of coherence, as COSMODIC® rebalances itself carrying the body along. The healthy healing and coherent vibrations in this process will be amplified (micro-resonances again) – and

when it is achieved, COSMODIC tells you, ‘enough’. ®

COSMODIC works like a skillful coach collecting a lot of data, building a mathematical model of the body healing reactions as they are – and as they should be, unlocking the body’s inherent potential, and then gently and tactfully guiding the body to its best performance in healing and regeneration. This is a whole new level of healing, where the body AFTER the disease can become even stronger than it was BEFORE it. If we move into the world of systems, the world of quantum physics, the string theory, bosons and fermions, supersymmetry, extra dimensions, antimatter, and what not, there is a world of endless possibilities where pretty much ANYTHING is possible. Here is what one of the most controversial physicists of our times Tom Bearden, the author of the Energy from the Vacuum, who did a lot of work in the area of precursor engineering (or the direct engineering of physical reality itself), thinks of the matter. “By deliberate and specific "patterning" of the Dirac sea tickling pulse patterns by which the vacuum in which an object resides is "tickled" to add deliberate patterns of negative energy, one can in theory "change" a physical object in any way desired, just so long as the proper "change pattern" has been worked out and put in one's available "library of technological tickle patterns" and what each does to what.

In humans, we have the world's greatest "Dirac sea vacuum tickling machine" conceivable, already in our bodies! It is the gigantic collection of ongoing "spikings" of our nerve dendrite endings, all over our bodies… that

The Triad Wave

©

The Triad Wave© is a simple sine wave series, digitally mastered and below the level of human hearing, to awaken the very multi-sensory system that we require as we move into our next evolutionary process of discernment within the pre-frontal cortex and beyond. It moves with the everchanging resonance within the Schumann cavity rather than a static frequency or vibration allowing our human form and sensory system to move in resonance with the planet upon which we reside. In addition, it is a carrier of information as our multi-sensory system assimilates signals from its many sensory receptors and moves it through the brain for interpretation or decoding. Since it is perpetual motion and constantly collecting information, there is the ability to move through the brain building upon each and collecting the data required to give us more accurate information. J. C. Pearce refers to this as “looping”…I have long called it the “foldover” as I would explain the process of how I understood the “wave” to work. If this constant interface between all components does not occur in all experience, we revert back to old patterns and the process of evolution or pre-frontal discernment does not take place. This is where the Triad Wave comes in for it keeps thought or sensory input moving through all stages and the interaction can be maintained thereby moving out of the entrainment of pre-determined thought The API Protocol© is a participatory experiential to learn the Reset Breath© and Quiet Touch©. The Reset Breath signals the brain that a change is requested. Quiet Touch creates the electro-magnetic connection that signals the release of oxytocin as well as connecting the heart, the brain within the heart and the brain/data base to respond at the highest level of understanding.

Endless Positive Energy Is it Possible?

By Janel Dalglish

Slim Spurling As we go about our daily lives, many of us are unaware of the energy elds that surround us everywhere we go. Nega ve energy elds can impact our rela onship with ourselves, our rela onships with others, and

therefore, our en re community in harmful ways. Due to the “electri ca on” of the world, the earth has been bombarded with nega ve energy, which disturbs and blocks the endless posi ve energy that we would otherwise have access to. At this point in our technologically-ravaged society, is there any way we could ever “unearth” posi ve energies? And can we

use those posi ve energies to create healthy, sustainable communi es? Let me introduce you to an individual who devoted his life to doing just that: Slim Spurling. Ul mately, Slim created cu ng-edge technology that incorporates sacred geometry, quantum physics and ancient wisdom—tools designed to draw upon posi ve earth energies which can only strengthen us as individuals, and improve our health as individuals and as a society.

“Almost any human endeavor – in produc on of materials, in health care, in wellbeing, in preserva on of food, plants, and so forth will bene t. There's just an endless list.” ~ Slim Spurling

The Evolution of Light-Life Technology In 1985, Slim began studying subtle energy phenomena, including the work of Dr. Wilhelm Reich (well known for his research on orgone energy), engineer and physicist Nikola Tesla (inventor of the Tesla Coil) and physicist John Archibald Wheeler. During the 1950s, Wheeler discovered that when the ends of a piece of wire are joined in a loop, a “tensor” energy eld is formed. Slim developed

tools which became the prototype for applying tensor technology.

Impact of Scalar Energy Waves To understand tensor technology, we must turn to quantum physics—speci cally, scalar energy waves (see Diagram 1). In the late 1800s, Tesla’s research into di erent types of energy led him to name powerful non-linear, non-Hertzian

as a power source. In an article titled “Scalar Energy—A Completely New World is Possible”, author Bill Morgan explains that scalar energy waves constitute “a kind of ocean

What Are Scalar

Later, during the 1920s, Albert Einstein researched the meaningful applications that

scalar

could

have

on

humanity and the planet. Scalar energy waves

have

been

around

since

the

creation of the universe and are created by a pair of identical waves that look and behave di erently from standard waves.2 They spread out in a

eld rather than in

waves; in other words, instead of running along wires or shooting out in beams, scalar energy waves tend to “ ll” their environment. They are fast, penetrating, connected, and can broadcast magni ed power. The net result is that they embed healing, energizing frequencies (as

opposed to harmful frequencies) on all living things.

Waves?

Another unique property of scalar waves is that they can regenerate and repair themselves inde nitely, which means we can never “overuse” them – they will always produce healing energy (Nikola Tesla’s Scalar Waves. The poten al of posi ve energy scalar waves is virtually limitless. Research and applica on of scalar waves may even increase our chance of survival during chao c periods in the future. Slim understood the monumental importance of scalar waves— that they would have far-reaching, undeniable implica ons for healing the human body and the environment which will lead to the crea on of healthy, sustainable communi es. He explained, “Scalar energy appears to be iden cal to the life force energy, the same chi energy that a skilled chi gong prac

use or the hands-on healer. And I was able to

nd the

rela onship there probably within a week of the discovery of the tool.” Scalar energy is embedded within them all of the tools. Slim described it this way: “We can apply scalar energy, we can see results. The e ect we see is rapid healing.” These phenomenal tools provide a way to apply science the way nature intended.

in a myriad of ways, including:

Energizing people, animals, plants, water and soil: Water is made to emit light – the water becomes uorescent. This uorescent characteris c has been studied by observing the spectral output of light from treated water in growth studies and taste tests, and has been veri ed by psychic observa on. When a tool is placed around a glass of water, it increases the available energy in the water instantaneously.3 The light eld of the water imparts “livingness” (vitality) when consumed – which means that individuals and communi es, in turn, become revitalized.

Crea ng harmonious and healthy environments: Scien c research has shown that the larger tools can be used to create bigger scalar energy elds to cover large areas of land. The tool syncs with the same eld of earth’s normal pulsa on, which may make it possible for us to clean air pollu on, and reduce the severity of storms and hurricanes (more informa on regarding how the tools divert storms: h p://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lQeBndNOIpU).4 Con nued research and study of scalar waves may make it possible for us to u lize them to stabilize our planet during chao c periods in the future (solar uctua ons, sun spots, sun ares, etc.), increasing our chance of survival—community survival depends on individual survival.5

well-being Suppor ng mental clarity: Scalar waves have been shown to help balance the two hemispheres of the brain, which in turn increases mental focus and our ability to learn. They seem to help us live in “the now”—we are more present and alert. Also, scalar waves exert an -depressant a ects by inhibi ng the reuptake of the brain chemical noradrenalin.

Raising human consciousness: Research has shown that when we are exposed to scalar waves, they ini ate a biological process that trains our consciousness to func on at its highest poten al of coherence—a “divinely orchestrated orderliness.”7 Scalar waves create a transcendental experience in which we are surrounded by a superconduc ve energy eld, generated through tools, which enlivens crea ve intelligence at its source. We can connect to the Universal energy that is limitless— without me and space—and your awareness of it. You can then use that energy to manifest whatever posi ve inten ons you want, and therefore your friends, neighbors, colleagues and others around you will bene t also from the changes in you. Dr. Glen Rein, a quantum biologist, points out from his experiments that scalar waves posi vely in uence an individual independent of his/her belief system. With this type of posi ve energy infused within a community, we can come together to resolve di erences and create real, las ng peace within ourselves and among each other. Reports tell how communi es have improved since Harmonizers were placed in the area. Neighbors got friendlier, people who didn’t t in le in peace, and noise levels went down signi cantly; overall, there were increased harmonious rela onships and friendliness.

Relieving pain: Cells become more ac ve within their uid and the body’s healing substances are

then mobilized and released—relieving pain that is physical, mental, emo onal, and spiritual. People who work together for be er communi es are those who are not overtaken by their own pain.

Improving the healing process: Scalar waves improve cell wall permeability for each and every cell in the body which facilitates the intake of nutrients and oxygen and makes it easier for the body to eliminate waste (Scalar Energy Healing Promotes Natural Healing: h p://www.enaturalhealthcures.com/scalar-energyhealing.html).

• • •

In e ect, the waves con nually detoxify the body to increase its healing ability. The cell energy level is increased to a healthy level so we feel less red, our immune systems are strengthened as much as 149% (proven in laboratory studies8), and ul mately, we have less diseases. Less diseases for one means less diseases for all.

In conclusion, because of Slim’s prophe c ancient knowledge of how tensor elds and scalar waves work, the answers to the ques ons we sta r te d w i t h at t h e beginning of this ar cle can be answered with a resounding

YES!...We have been given the power to tap into endless posi ve energy, and to use that energy to create healthy, sustainable communi es. The ques on now is whether we will take this opportunity to help ourselves and our planet thrive.

You can imagine the incredulous looks I received!

By Lyn Hebenstreit After all, water is the “new oil”, “blue gold”, the ultimate prize of this century’s resource wars.

Water is life, and the lack of it the

greatest threat to the survival of mankind at this time in human history – and so on.

How could I make such a

ludicrous assertion? Well, I can’t expect to convince you in so short an article, but I do hope to offer a few insights that may inspire hope, and prompt you to deeper consideration. First of all, let me clarify what I mean by abundant. Abundance is not unlimited supply or vast surpluses, but simply, always enough – when used consciously, responsibly and conservatively. Do we really need more than that? Now, let’s explore some of water’s lesser known past on this planet for clues about its future. Most of us are familiar with the hydrological cycle – water evaporates from the ocean’s surface, condenses into clouds and is blown overland where it precipitates as rain and snow and eventually finds its way back to the ocean via lakes, rivers and subterranean flow. That’s great as far as it goes, but 4.5 billion years ago, the earth was a smoldering cinder. Where were the oceans then – and more importantly, how did they come to dominate over 70% of the planet’s surface? Until recently, comets were

considered the most likely source of

Earth’s water, but new data from the mass spectrometry of the Hale-Bopp comet reveals a concentration of “heavy water” (deuterium) far higher than that found in the world’s oceans, leading researchers to conclude that only a small portion, perhaps

10%, of Earth’s water derives from comets.

Of course, many people conclude the obvious – that the oceans came from rain. Well, there’s certainly some truth in that, but according to the best estimates, if every molecule of water was squeezed from the atmosphere, it would cover the Earth with only about one inch of water. If rain filled the oceans, where did the rain come from? Over 50 years ago, UCLA geology professor and former president of the American Geological Society, William Rubey, was awarded the National Medal of Science by President Lyndon Johnson for his theory that both the oceans and the earth's atmosphere come from the interior of the earth. According to his calculations, based on extensive data from the Geophysical Laboratory of the Carnegie Institution in Washington, DC, the uplift of an igneous crust 40 km thick will release enough water to fill the present oceans. Today, this water is known as primary, juvenile, magmatic or earth-generated water, but knowledge of it goes back thousands of years. In Genesis II, 5-6, for example, we read the following: When the LORD God made the earth and the heavens, neither wild plants nor grains were growing on the earth. For the LORD God had not yet sent rain to water the earth, and there were no people to cultivate the soil. Instead, springs came up from the ground and watered all the land. Moses was perhaps the first primary water hydrologist.

After wandering for 40 years in the

wilderness, the Israelites were getting thirsty. So “Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their

beasts also.” (Numbers 20:11)

In 2011, I was in Jordan to do a primary water presentation at the International Permaculture Convergence and afterwards visited the desert site near the crest of a desolate limestone ridge where Moses allegedly struck that rock. After 6,000 years, water was still coming out in abundance! Primary water was well known to the ancient Greeks. Aristotle, in Meterologicia notes,

“The water coming from the earth unites with rain water to produce rivers. The rainfall alone is quite insufficient to supply the rivers of the world with water.” In the Koran we read, "For among rocks there are some from which rivers gush forth; others there are which when split asunder send forth water." (2, Verse 74) Leonardo da Vinci, Johannes Kepler and Rene Descartes each considered the vast network of subterranean water as the blood of our planetary organism. clearest expressions of the modern notion of primary water,

16th

In one of the

century scientist Georgius

Agricola, considered the “Father of Mineralogy”, observed that, “Besides rain, there is another kind of water by which the interior of the earth is soaked, so that being heated it can continually give off halitus (water vapor), from which arises a great and abundant force of waters.” More recent primary water pioneers include the great early 20th century Austrian geologist, Eduard Suess, who coined the term “juvenile water”, and his student, Stephan Reiss, a mining engineer who located prolific wells throughout the world at the request of heads of state who learned of his unconventional, but highly successful techniques for locating water in arid, drought stricken regions.

Master dowsers Vern Cameron and Bill Cox were also

successful in siting highly productive wells with their understanding of primary water. In the 1950s they were able to restore California’s dried out Lake Elsinore to its original glory with three primary water wells producing over 9,500 gallons of water per minute in total. Despite the scant attention paid to primary water by conventional hydrologists, my own research has produced a wealth of evidence highlighting its fundamental importance to our planetary life, its widespread appearance and the promise it holds for humanity. For example, all of the world’s largest lakes are found in rift zones, geologic discontinuities or volcanically active regions where deep

waters of magmatic origin make their way to the surface.

All of the world’s major rivers are fed by primary sources. Countless springs all over the world, both hot and cold, have flowed abundantly for thousands of years without interruption – even in some of the world’s most arid regions. Volcanic lakes, hydrothermal vents, desert oases, deep boreholes and the abundance of water throughout our solar system and in deep space all point YellowStone National Park

to the magnitude of this phenomenon.

Teaming up with Stephan Reiss protégé, Pal Pauer, the US non-profit, Global Resource Alliance, launched a project in 2007 called Maji Mengi (Abundant Water) to bring clean, safe water to villages in East Africa suffering extreme water scarcity. In the early days, drilling locations were located by dowsing and observation of visible geological and biological indicators associated with primary water sources.

More recently, electrical

resistivity methods have been added to help pinpoint narrow, conductive fractures in the underlying bedrock which serve as conduits for water generated at depth. So far, over 75 successful boreholes serving thousands of families have been completed. The cost per person is less than $30.

The deep seated water is bacteria free and

continues to flow throughout the year – even in times of drought.

This project

demonstrates, on a small scale, the potential of primary water to help meet the need of hundreds of millions on the planet today still suffering from the lack of clean, safe water. In the foreword to a book about the work of Stephan Reiss published in 1960 called New Water for a Thirsty World, philosopher Aldous Huxley remarks, After seeing a few of his wells spouting water from the solid granite at the rate of two or three thousand gallons a minute, and after listening to what he had to say about faults and fissures, about juvenile water and primary water, about hydrogen and oxygen coming together at high temperatures and under vast pressures in the bowels of the earth and rising, as H2O towards the surface, wherever the crust was weak, I began to understand the mystery of Nefta and Jericho; and I began at the same time to feel a little more hopeful about humanity's prospects for survival and a good life on this under-watered and

soon to be overpopulated planet.

Gobi Desert

Primary, juvenile or earth-generated water is yet another of Gaia’s many blessings. Abundant life is the heritage of humanity, if only we can learn to live in harmony with one another and with nature, and to use wisely and reverently that which our planet so generously supplies. Like many springs around the world, this one in the middle of the Gobi Desert called Crescent Lake has not run dry for thousands of years. Where do it’s perpetual waters originate? Africa’s Great Rift Valley, whose deep lakes are home to over 25% of the world’s fresh water. Hydrothermal vents discovered in the last 20 years at the bottom of these lakes testify to the primary origin of these waters. Borehole at a Masai village in Amboseli National Park, Kenya located by Pal Pauer and funded by Global Water of Oxnard, CA. In 1991 I met renowned author, Christopher Bird (The Secret Life of Plants and Secrets of the Soil). Christopher, and co-author Peter To m p k i n s

explored

the

metaphysical aspects beyond known plant biology and produced extraordinary solutions for global agriculture and plant-based food production. They suggested an emotional life occurs amongst plants, and that human bio-energy

can have an effect on plant growth.

"Sonic Bloom” is a proprietary audio, organic nutrient plant growing process that was developed by Dr. Carlson to assist the farmer, particularly with low water availability and poor soil conditions. When properly applied, sonic stimulation affects plant metabolism at the cellular level and increases the size and number of stomata on each leaf, resulting in a greatly increased absorption rate of moisture and nutrients – an effect that is quickly re ected in root growth, seedgermination, plant growth, and yield. The sounds are frequencies derived from song birds and overlaid with pleasant music. A tremendous variety of plants had been planted around the Paradise Valley, Arizona, house I was staying at and I started a garden there as well. An ivy plant that had worked it's way in between the roof and adobe bricks grew from a couple of inches to a vine the length of the living room with dinner-plate sized leaves. Vegetables grew incredibly fast and I had beautiful produce that lasted through the inferno of a Phoenix summer. I've never seen plants grow so fast, or so well. The music was was a joy to listen while the plants were listening and it was almost as though the symbiosis between plants and humans was as profound as that described by Christopher Bird. We used spherical-shaped speakers, developed by scientist and UFAUX keyboardist Jim Dilettoso. The frequencies and wave patterns that affect the plants are very precise and must be delivered to the plant precisely and exact - undistorted, especially the upper harmonics. Additionally, the sphere transmits the sound over a much larger area than conventional speakers. A system such as Carlson's could indeed be used to "feed the world" effectively, and sustainably. www.dancarlsonsonicbloom.com Dan Carlson Sonic Bloom

Dr. Allen Schoen, DVM, a pioneer in holistic, integrative veterinary medicine, also sees energy medicine and heart-based human-animal interaction as a vital component of pet care and necessary to the sustainable existence of the large numbers of people who love and care for pets. Dr. Schoen personally practices compassion and contemplative meditation and teaches mind-body medicine to other veterinarians. He understands the calming, centering bene ts of someone who is trained in meditation and the application of subtle energies. In meeting the social wellness requirements for humans, it only stands to reason that similar requirements should be met for the animals who are considered vital to the wellbeing of those humans Dr. Schoen advises providing the most natural food available for pets and sourcing from suppliers as close to your home base as possible. For dogs and cats, this can mean acquiring fresh meat from a local abattoir or small farm for poultry, lamb, grass-fed beef, etc, as well as eggs and plant products such as speci c herbs that may be helpful to your pet's wellbeing. If pet owners adopted a "locavore" mentality, reliance on factory-farm based pet food could be reduced considerably. Find out how your community's meat products are raised, processed, and sent to market If a focus is placed on feeding pets fresher food, their overall health will remain better than on manufactured feeds. In the event of a situation that requires emergency services, dry and canned goods that would have been the primary source of food in the past can remain in storage and kept available as a secondary food source for the interim should the supply of fresh foods become temporarily unavailable. www.drschoen.com Dr. Schoen

Vaastu Architecture:

Living in the Light

Authentic Vaastu science is based upon ancient principles discovered thousands of years ago by a Rishi scientist/carpenter named Mamuni Mayan. Mayan is mentioned throughout Indian literature. Most notably, he built the light city of Dwarka for Lord Krishna.

The term Vaastu and Vastu are enjoying great popularity around the world. Numerous claims and bene its of Vaastu create hope in individuals looking for a better life. Individuals are offering various gadgets that claim to rectify or repair the vaastu of a home or business with the hope

of bringing more well being to the occupant. Unfortunately those numerous gadgets do not change or improve the Vaastu energy of a house and it is not the mandate of Vaastu Shastra to accomplish such things. Understanding this requires a bit of an explanation.

By Dr. Jessie J. Mercay

Mayan discovered that he could reverse engineer the process through which Consciousness manifested itself as the material world. Because the ield of Consciousness applies a mathematical rhythmic unfolding of itself into matter, Mayan discovered that by applying the same sequence as speci ic mathematical formulas he could create enclosed space that vibrates with speci ic qualities of Brahmam.

f

Mayan perceived the method whereby the great luminous ield of consciousness, Brahmam, or Quantum ield changes itself from potential energy (Vastu) to matter – the material world (Vaastu – kinetic energy or Vaastu moving within itself). He saw through his yogic inner vision that everything – created and uncreated – is vibration or pulse and can be described in m a t h e m a t i c a l te r m s ( o n ly re c e n t ly discovered by westerners in physics). He, being a builder and architect, saw the material world of objects as enclosed space – forms that contained pure energy and the luminosity of the center of origin – Consciousness itself.

ield Vaastu. So, Vastu transforms itself into Vaastu (subtle material energy), which become Vaastus – energized material objects. Subtle Space or consciousness is Vastu and the objects and forms of the material world are Vaastu. Vaastu does not simply refer to the object itself but also to the Dr. Jessie J. Mercay subtle quantum energy permeating the object. The earth itself is a Vaastu that is permeated with subtle energy – Vaastu Purusha. Along with the discovery of this process, Mayan discovered that speci ic mathematical expressions could tap directly into speci ic qualities of the ield of Brahmam or pure consciousness. Hence with the proper measurement, qualities such as wellbeing, harmony, peace, abundance and other such positive attributes could be structured into built space to affect the occupant in a positive way.

Incan, Aztec, Maayan and Christian edi ices were built per Vaastu Shastra. We know, for example, that King Solomon’s temple, ancient Mohendojaro, and the Taj Mahal were built per Vaastu Shastras.

If a building is not built per Vaastu Shastras, it may be harmful to the dweller, as the qualities – good or bad – are not known. Houses, businesses, schools, and all built space should be constructed per authentic Vaastu Shastras in order to assure the well being of society. Towns and villages need to be planned using principles of Vaastu Shastras to ensure the prosperity and awakening of the town’s people. This beautiful and ancient science has been in the hands of the Vishwakarma clan for thousands of years. More recently, the late great Shilpi Guru, architect and sculptor, Dr. V. Ganapati Sthapati dedicated his life to educating the public on authentic Vaastu. He even established a school, The American University of Mayonic Science and Technology and the Vaastu Vedic Trust to ensure its proper

Non-Toxic and Natural Building Technologies The idea that commonly used building materials in our homes can adversely affect our health is a relatively new concept in North America. Only recently has there been any large, signi cant public outcry about the Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) of the average American home. The terms "Sick Building Syndrome" and "Multiple Chemical Sensitivity" are becoming media common- place. But the two main media villains in the great IAQ debates, mold and fungus, have been around since the beginning of the human race. Why and how have these omnipresent, usually benign, naturally occurring molds and fungi suddenly become the issues of such controversy Put simply, sick building syndrome is a product of the modern materials in your 20th century house and the way they are put together. Until the early 60's, most homes in North America were constructed with some knowledge of the importance of breathability. Most pre-WWII lath and plaster over frame homes with brous insulation and steam heat "breathe" well and are far less mold- prone than today's homes. Modern homes, in contrast, do not breathe. Built of sheetrock with vapor barrier, non-moisture diffusing berglass insulation, and centrally forced air heating and cooling, they are practically designed to ensure that any moisture that gets in cannot get out. In this damp, unventilated environment, mold thrives. It is distributed around the house via the heating and cooling vents and breathed in by the inhabitants. Living in houses of this sort is as unhealthy and as uncomfortable as living in a plastic bag It doesn't have to be this way. Most of the world's buildings have been, and still are, constructed with bio-compatible materials--wood, earth, stone, cement and plaster--put together in a way that allowed the building to breathe properly. Before the days of central heating and air conditioning, your building had to breathe on its own without the assistance of mechanical heating and air conditioning

Bio Compatible Materials

Happily, the least mold- and fungus-friendly homes are also the most energy ef cient. Such homes are found throughout western and eastern Europe, Asia, Austria, New Zealand. In other words, just about any place outside of North America. In these countries, oil based plastics, wood and energy are costly. So homes are built of cheaper natural materials like earth, stone, cement and plaster which have high thermal mass, meaning that they retain heat and cold. These homes have been skillfully crafted, blending thermal mass (earth, stone, cement and plaster) with insulation and "out"sulation (woodchips, straw, air gaps and various forms of cellulose) to create some of the most comfortabl Why, in contrast, has North America been saddled by some of the least ef cient, most toxic building systems known to mankind? Looked at historically, it only make sense in terms of a continent with overabundant wood resources and cheap energy--both of which have recently run out, along with our reasons for continuing these building practices. In modern times these continued practices only exist with the help of your tax dollars in the forms of massive government subsidies to the wood, plastics, oil and energy industries

A Vision of the

Near Future

The story you are about to read is based on actual systems, technologies, and materials, now available to the nations of the world, provided their national governments decide to support their deployment, for the bene t of their people, and future generations to follow. My intent is to show you what I will be doing on the Big Island, Hawai'i, to establish a showcase for these blessings of technology. This showcase will be made available to the nations of the world to see, and experience, up close and personal. http:// whitetiger511.tripod.com

The latest data on Edible Landscaping, Permaculture, and Food Forest, design and layout, guides our way as we use virtual space to lay out what we will do in physical space Foot paths will lead to wider paths that wind between groves of towering timber bamboo, and plantings of a wide variety of edible species, and those valued for their beauty, and fragrance, as well as those being grown to provide cellulosic feedstock for our sustainable harvests. Sprayable polymers that bind with soil particles will give us durable surfaces for foot, and vehicular traf c, without harm to underlying soil, and aquifer. www.pureone.com

Plant materials, sustainably grown, and harvested, will enable us to produce cellulosic biofuels to replace fossil fuel imports that cost the Hawaiian islands at least $4 billion dollars each year, money best spent in the islands, and not lost to foreign vendors. Biojet fuel will go to the jets that bring visiting tourists from many nations, millions arrive on the Big Island each year at the Port of Hilo, and the international airports found in Kailua-Kona and Hilo. Biodiesel fuel will be used by the cruise ships, and cargo vessels that deliver goods, and food, to the islands. Bio-gasoline will be available to the people now buying gasoline from mainland, and foreign sources. Onsite re ning equipment will pro- cess plant materials into biofuels needed, helping to end dependence on fuel imports. www.virent.com

Those visitors, arriving at the Port of Hilo, and island airports, look for area attractions, and experiences to share with their friends, and family, back home. We will certainly give them something to share far and wide. Wait until they see our vertical farming structures, giant domes to 360' in diameter from the Green Society Association in China, kindred spirits who feel as we do about sustain- able development, and being gentle on the living land. www.greensociety.co With plenty of vertical space to work with, as well as horizontal, we will set up multiple oors of production space to hold our high density food growing systems (Aeroponic, Aquaculture, Aquaponic, Rotary Hydroponic). These systems will enable us to help meet the need in the islands for organically grown, nutrient dense food to relieve dependence on the mainland. The islands now import 90% of their food from the mainland

We will be using such innovative growing systems as those offered by www.iris.com.my in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, a company that has teamed with www.kotocorp.com to build thousands of new homes, villages, and providing thousands of full time jobs for people who were homeless, many scavenging on trash heaps for enough to live on, and to provide for their families. Now these two companies are carrying on similar humanitarian work in the Philippines, Papua New Guinea, as well as throughout Malaysia. Their Autopot system uses no soil, and is very ef cient when it comes to water used. Their Integrated Farming System uses an Aquaponic approach, raising sh and veggies

The Trade Winds blow constantly across the islands, a wonderful source for onsite, helical wind turbines, such as those from www.helixwind.com, to power our pumps for irrigation, and water capture and management for optimal use. We will eventually use new solid state power generators being developed at this time. www.chavaenergy.com

Ponds will be built to hold rainwater for use in irrigation, and to optimize water use for our plant allies. A system of berms and ditches, based on Permaculture, and the topography of the land, will guide rainfall to low points, in the ponds we build. New air to water systems, as well as the proven solar distillation method, offered at www.biohome.net in their 'Air Well' system, will tap into the moisture, swept from the ocean surface by the wind, into water we will use, even in dry areas that receive little rainfall each year, such as found on the Kohala, and Kona sides of the island. The 'Air Well' can also be used as an inexpensive desalination system to process seawater into fresh along the island's coastline Electric utility vehicles, as well as garden carts, will move harvested plant material to our biofuel re ning units, as well as used for production of bioplastic, biodegradeable plastic made with equipment from Omodo GmbH, in Germany. www.zelfotechnology.com We will produce a thermoplastic to be used in our onsite 3D printers for production of components, and assemblies, of items we will use, as well as those we will sell to our global patrons. www.zcorp.com As we dig out our ponds sand will be collected, and used in production of microcrystalline material, resembling marble in appearance, and load bearing strength, by the amazing 3D mega-printer, D-Shape, which is able to print out objects, and structures, to two stories high. www.d-shape.com

We will use smaller domes from www.paci cdomes.com as workshops, of ces, shelters for eld crews from inclement weather. Their Projection Dome will be used in our learning center to instruct interns from many nations, as well as our employees, and

a larger Projection Dome will show documentary lms, taken of our work with the sacred land, to our visitors who arrive on biofueled shuttle buses, as well as those that are fully electric. Once they arrive they will have the opportunity to ride on electric carts from www.customcarts.com and later on our maglev transit system from www.skytran.us on our large acreage sites Photo-luminescent materials will be used on our pathways made with Purecrete, in order to give a soft light for evening tours of the farmstead. Our water-scaping will include the 'liquid reworks' from www.waltzingwaters.com for entertainment venues to support local performers. Selected crews will be given instruction by JPJ Technologies www.jpjtechnologies.com in the art of synthetic rock fabrication, using their expertise later to build waterscape features, as well as water capture, and containment land features. Cellulose Nano Crystals & Cellulose Nano Fibers (CNC/CNF) will be processed onsite from woody materials harvested, in order to produce advanced materials for fabrication of 3D printed items, as well as admixture with bercrete we produce. CNC/CNF materials are 3X stronger than carbon ber or kevlar, and give strength to trees, bamboos, and other woody plants

Triodetic BioSpheres

The Hawaiian islands are a very special place, isolated by thousands of miles of ocean, and have evolved unique plants, and animals, they are in dire need of protection, as well as propagation to keep them around for future generations to enjoy. Our use of domes for growing food crop species will enable us to protect the surrounding land from alien species, while providing veggies, fruit, and gourmet culinary herbs of value to local chefs, and cooks, and not commonly found in island farmer's markets Our eco/agro-resort, built with help from the good folk at Paci c Domes, will offer guests comfortable, eco-friendly, space to unwind, and spend time with us to take a closer look

at what we offer to all nations of the world, a model of sustainable development, and practical answers to end thirst, hunger, poverty, as well as energy de cits. Performance space will give local performers a place to entertain guests from other states, and countries, as well as our island neighbors out for some fun. We will certainly look forward to welcoming your visit to our world class attraction, White Tiger Farm NOTE: By the time you read these words of mine we will be busy building this sustainable project on the Big Island, Hawaii's.
