The 18th Salmon Bros Golf Challenge was held at the Ryde Parramatta Golf Club in West Ryde on Thursday 7th September 2017.
The golf course was again in perfect condition and a great day was enjoyed by all. Some candid shots of the day are included on page 15 of Connections
This annual event for the electrical trade was supported by 24 of our preferred suppliers, with special promotions and great product displays on the course.
The summer holiday season is a good time to recharge our batteries and plan for 2018. Salmon Bros thanks you for your support during 2017 and look forward to your continued support during the coming year.
The par 3 17th hole was again the place to be, with a $25,000 cash prize for a hole in one. Many have tried, but once again none were successful. An Apple iPad was won in the chipping competition. The annual charity raffle held in conjunction with the Golf Challenge was again well supported, with $2500.00 collected for the Special Olympics Macarthur Region. This raffle is drawn on the day and the winner received a 55 inch UHD Television.

Roger, tell us about this new PIXIE App and its application?
The PIXIE App, introduced by SAL is Bluetooth based & controls dimmers, switches and LED strips within residential and commercial environments.
Richard, I hear you have been trialling a new SMART lighting product from SAL, how did that come about? “I’ve been buying SAL products through Salmon Bros for over 15 years now, and always been very happy with the service provided by Salmon Bros, and SAL products. A few months ago Roger, from SAL, told me about a new product they were introducing. I have always had an interest in new technologies, and am keen to bring these to my clients, although I need to be confident that they are actually going to make life easier for them. Roger told me the product was App based, and asked if I would be interested in joining a small group of electrical contractors that SAL was asking to trial the product. Roger told me that basically SAL would like me to install some of the product in my own home, download the App, and then “try to break it!” I was happy to do this and assist SAL in identifying and fixing any bugs in the App, the instructions are included in the App, and part of the trial was to check that the information was presented in a way that was easy to follow and set up.

ongoing charges, was very easy to use, in fact both the software and hardware were a lot less complicated, and expensive, than other product in the marketplace doing the same job.”
Roger, was the feedback from Richard useful? “Very much so, the key to the success of this product is that it has to be simple to install, and simple to use. We know the product has powerful features and functionality, yet if it is not intuitive to use home owners will not embrace it. What we really want to achieve is extra sales for the electrical contractor, electrical wholesaler and SAL, by people being so impressed with the simplicity and ease of getting started that they recommend this product to others.”
Richard, have you sold this product to any of your customers yet, and if so what did they think? Yes, I have just installed four SMART dimmers into a home in Double Bay, controlling both LED downlights and LED strip, my customer has downloaded the App and programmed it as he wanted.
When I checked I was happy to hear that everything was working “better than expected!”
