October celebrates not only Children’s Day but also the birth of SAUCEink (and my birthday). Three years ago, this very day +22 days, SAUCE Networks officially incorporated in Singapore and became a real business entity of its own. Taking a stroll down memory lane… SAUCEink started off as just a school project for my Mass Communication module’s presentation, back in 2009. It took three years to finally decide on pursuing it a little further, after numerous failed attempts trying to work with different people on it.

YING THE LABEL

where fashion marries art

by: Janelle Yau Fashion is never just about dressing up. Fashion is an avenue for people to let their personality shine through with no inhibitions. Fashion is all about fun while looking good at the same time. Fashion is putting two puzzle pieces together to create a masterpiece of an outfit. STRUCTURE. Ying The Label is a local Singaporean brand that dares to take ready-to-wear pieces to the next level. Ying The Label uses origami-inspired detailing and self-designed fabrics to create beautifully structured pieces that have never been seen before. Ying, the designer, takes inspiration in the environment, her surroundings, and her emotions to create odd, but always beautiful clothing pieces for the modern woman. COLOUR. Ying chooses to stick to the dreamy colours of Australia, where she studied for four years, and bring a piece of Australia to Asia through her clothing pieces. The colour palette of her collection is whimsical and unusual as she described. From hazy teal, creamy mustard, down to dust pink, Ying believes that there are so many pretty colours that are left

untapped in the fashion world and feels that it is her duty to parade the different wonderful colours in her collections. ART. Refusing to conform to the usual fashion trends in the market, Ying courageously marries fashion with art using artistic techniques such as painting, cutting, folding, and embroidering to create fashion artworks that are quiet but bold and very wearable. Ying The Label will fill in the gap between art and fashion with their artsy prints, subtle silhouettes, and classic cuts with a little quirk here and there. Fashion trends never die. Trends from the 70’s will again be relevant in a few years’ time, but Ying The Label aims to stand the test of time and remain relevant all throughout by crafting humble details that imbue a different touch to their clothing pieces.

1. Who are your inspirations when it comes to your personal style? How so? Alexa Chung. Her style has an effortless vibe to it and she mixes the items that people would normally not pair together, whether it’s colours, materials, sizes or patterns. It always seems as if she just ‘throws’ something on, but that is not the case! I especially love how she embraces the shift dress look (it is also my favourite silhouette). This style is classic, easy, and almost universally flattering. It may be very boring for some people, but it is what she puts on with the shift dress that makes her a true fashionista. 2. on a lazy day, what would be your go-to outfit? There is this particular black sleeveless blouse that I perpetually pull out of my wardrobe whenever I have no clue on what to wear, and a pair of denim shorts; and slippers! Yes, very boring, but oh-so-comfortable. 3. If you didn’t become a designer, what career path would you have chosen? Well if I did not choose to become a designer, I will probably be a psychologist? I love reading people and learning about their behavior! It’s very exhilarating! However, I guess I am pretty occupied as I am currently juggling between 2 jobs - Daytime, a corporate development manager, whereby I take on roles such as branding, investor and public relations, mergers and acquisitions etc; night-time plus the weekends, a designer! I am quite the workaholic! 4. Fashion or Art? Both! I do not think it is possible to truly separate them, because both are channels to express yourself, your thoughts and your emotions. It is also the reason I try to marry them both whenever I design. If you take a close look at my designs, they all have some elements of art, in the form of painting, drawing, and origami. 5. Name five things that you can never live without? My bed; a notebook and a pen; my phone; and snacks.

Q: Can you share with us a bit of the background of your blog? My blog’s name is Scenestealer. I post about fashion, fitness, events, and my travel adventures

Q: Why did you decide to start a blog? It started as a hobby back when I was in College. I wanted to document my daily outfits so it started as some sort of an online diary.

Q: Why did you choose to decide to focus on fashion? Because that’s one of my biggest interests and as I mentioned earlier, my blog started as an online diary. I never realized that people will appreciate my style or follow my blog.

Q: With the number of fashion blogs popping up, what makes your blog different? Aside from fashion, I post about travel and fitness. I always try to produce something new so that people won’t find my posts boring.

Q: What for you is the best thing about being a fashion blogger?

Being able to be constantly surrounded with creative minds. It allows me to grow and challenge myself to offer something new to my readers.

Q: What is the best and worst feedback / comment you have received so far? It’s so heartwarming and inspiring when readers tell you that you make them want to be a better person. Worst feedback would probably the shallow things like I’m ugly or they don’t understand my style. But it’s okay. In the 6 years that I’ve been blogging, I’ve learned to shrug these things off.

Q: I'm sure there are many aspiring bloggers out there. Do you have any advice for them? Blog for the right reasons. So many people think that blogging is a way to get freebies or invited to events. You need to be passionate about blogging so that you’re constantly inspired and motivated to share your interests to the world.

Q: Complete this sentence: "My style is..." My style is versatile.

Q: Complete this sentence: "People should visit my blog because..." People should visit my blog because you can see posts about fashion, fitness, lifestyle, and travel. And hopefully you won’t get bored! Lol

Q: Any last words? Blogging is not an easy job. So many people think that we just put on make up, dress up, and show up. But there’s so much work being put behind our photos. You’re your own hairstylist, make up artist, stylist, photographer, editor and so much more! It’s time consuming but it’s also a lot of fun.

www.tricenagusara.com patricenagusara@gmail.com facebook.com/LaPetiteBlog @tricenagusara @tricenagusara

Q: Can you share with us a bit of the background of your blog? La Petite is a fashion and lifestyle blog. Its styling tips are mostly for petite women and it also covers travel, media launch and a bit about beauty.

Q: Why did you decide to start a blog? It was actually my boyfriend, Seph Cham, who convinced me to do fashion blogging because he told me that I have the potential. So after months of thinking, I told myself that maybe I should try – there is nothing to lose in trying anyway.

Q: Why did you choose to decide to focus on fashion? Well since I was in high school, fashion is something that excites me. I love the idea of styling; I love it when a certain occasion challenges me to think what to wear; and I love it every time I challenge myself to do mixing and matching! So eventually, I learned a lot of ideas and knowledge, which I want to share with my fellow petite girls. Yes, petite girls are one of the easiest to style but of course, there are still things that we must avoid and things that we must do to look good even without wearing a pair of high heels.

Q: With the number of fashion blogs popping up, what makes your blog different? My blog is different because I’m focusing more on petite women. Also, unlike other fashion blogs, the outfits that I post are not just one similar style: I can do urban grunge, sporty, chic, preppy, etc.

Q: What for you is the best thing about being a fashion blogger? The best thing about being a fashion blogger is the fact that you can share your own style, ideas and knowledge to your readers. That is why every time I come up with another blog post, I make sure to tell my readers why I wore a certain outfit and how it made me look together with some styling tips.

Q: What is the best and worst feedback / comment you have received so far? Best: When my readers agreed on everything I said and when they told me how much I inspire them. Worst: I remember the first time I did a natural and fun outfit post on my blog, as in with wacky faces and jump shots, when a hater commented, “You should stick to cliché blogger pose.” And I was like, uhmm okay... What do you even mean but whatever, I just didn’t reply.

Q: I'm sure there are many aspiring bloggers out there. Do you have any advice for them? Make sure to choose the topic that you really love and you have a passion with. Remember that blogging is not about the things that you get but the passion you have for what you do.

Q: Complete this sentence: "My style is..." Playful!

Q: Complete this sentence: "People should visit my blog because..." Every now and then, I make sure to cook up something new, exciting and useful for you!

Q: Any last words? Visit my blog to know more about my style and me!

10 WAYS TO DRESS

TALLER By: Rena Is with Janelle Yau

1

Being petite has a lot of perks like being able to pull off a lot of clothing pieces that other body types can’t, but it can be frustrating for petites to find the perfect clothes that won’t make them look frumpy too. There are a lot of quick and easy ways to create an illusion of height and we’ve got ten for you.

Wear boot cut jeans

Choose a pair of jeans bootcut jeans to create the illusion of having a longer legs. Have the pair altered to match your desired length and fit if necessary.

Go for a full skirt

2

The common misconception is that petites can’t rock a full skirt, but when worn right the full skirt can be a petite’s best friend. Pair a full skirt with a fitted crop top or with a short sleeve blouse and finish the outfit with a pair of peep toe heels.

3

Rock a high waist bottom

High waist shorts or trousers can make your legs appear longer instantly. Wear it with a fitted crop top to avoid looking too heavy on top. Finish the look with a pair of pointy or ballet flats for a cute surprise.

4 5

Pack on the vertical stripes

Vertical stripes create the illusion of depth making you look taller instantly. These stripes draw the eyes to move up and down, and not side by side which create width that can make you appear wider and shorter. Combine a tailored cropped pants with a vertical stripes blouse and a pair of sandals for a chic look.

Accessorize with skinny belts

Choose a skinny belt over wide one to make a short torso look longer. Wear a skinny belt over a nice blouse and pencil skirt and complete the outfit with a pair of heels for a stylish look.

6

Go lower with V-necks

To create the illusion of longer neck opt for lower, plunging, V-Neck tops or dresses. Wear a v-neck top, tuck it under a high waist pencil skirt for a simple, but classic look.

7 8

Go crazy with onesies

Avoid wearing huge prints as they can make you appear shorter. Instead, rock overalls or jumpsuit in one colour to elongate the legs.

Walk around town with a maxi skirt A well cut maxi dress can make a petite lady appear taller. Wear a single tone strappy maxi dress with a pair of wedges to add some extra height.

9

Click and clack your heels Heels create the illusion of longer legs. They are very versatile because it can be worn for work and play and very stylish too. Wear a pair of skinny jeans with a blazer and a pair of skinny heels for casual or a night out.

10

Go for an A-line skirt A-line skirts are universally flattering for any body type! Choose an A-Line skirt above the knees to create an illusion of longer legs. Wear a simple blouse or shirt tucked under you’re A-line skirt and a pair of pumps for a classic look.

Cat eyes may be the universal style for eyeliners but did you know you can kick it up a notch with other catlike designs? Here are some other ways you can frame your eyes in the most bold and chic way possible.

Crease Lining

When you do your basic cat eye, continue the flick line all the way towards your eye crease. Blink slowly when you talk to people so they can see your bewitching look.

Thin Lining

The easiest look you can make is applying a skinny line along your eye. Make sure you sharpen your eyeliner pencil or use your finest brush when recreating this look.

Lining and Blending

For a glamorous look, try doing your basic cat eye and blend the liner with the eye shadow of your choice. Don’t worry about smudging the liner – the blending makes it all the more ethereal.

Line it with a Touch of Color

Try this – make a sharp and thin cat eye then top the lining with a burst of colored eye shadow lining. This will give your eyes some more pop than the ordinary cat eye.

Underlining

How about going ultra-forward with your makeup? Draw your cat eye upside down and put some mascara on. It’s fun, creative and definitely radical.

Thick Lining

The boldest line in the book. Make your cat eye fierce by going all the way around the lid.

Flicked Liner

This subtle look includes two flicks or more, if you’re courageous, and adds that hidden cool factor in your eyes.

What’s the best type of dresses for someone with a fuller figure?

For those with fuller figures, they would usually be of a pear body shape. The most attractive part of you is your well-defined waist. Emphasize your shoulders to take attention away from pronounced hips.

* Pear body shape: Your lower body is larger than your upper body. You have pronounced hips and a well-defined waist. Emphasise your shoulders.

What kind of dresses can make my tan skin look elegant?

Deja User:

To be honest, skin tone won’t influence your styles. It is the cutting, design, material and print that define styles. There are three examples of Jessica Alba showing you how to dress with elegance. In terms of materials, chiffon would be a great choice to emphasise your feminity. A one-piece dress with minimalistic designs will work well during evening events. Less is more.

NYFW 2015: DAY THREE WITH SOCIETYA New York Fashion Week is nothing

without the killer outfits. I brought a little tropical paradise from Singapore to the Spring/ Summer fashion week in New York. You have seen it on my Instagram, but here are more up close photos of my decal long sleeve top and skorts from Tibaeg's Spring/ Summer 2015 collection. They are so comfortable and stylish. They make me look chic without trying too hard and those statement prints are to die for.

NYFW 2015: DAY 4 IN MAXI AND DENIM New

York Fashion Week on day 4 came in full swing for me. I run to a few shows back to back, attended a couple of meetings, and still managed to finish few photo shoots as fast as I could. Now that the fashion week is already over, I'm so excited to share with you in details what I did during fashion week. It was so overwhelming and amazing. Although, fashion week is quite exhausting, I actually enjoy every bit of it. If I have to do it all over again, I would. I can't turn back time, but perhaps, looking back at these photos from day 4 of New York Fashion Week helps to bring back those sweet memories.

Thanks SocietyA for dressing me in this gorgeous color-block maxi skirt from Lie collection. I wore it to attend Lie SangBong's fashion show and felt so special to be dressed in one of his designs. It felt as if it was just yesterday!

NYFW 2015:

DAY 5 IN PANTSUIT FOR CONCEPT KOREA

My day 5 of #NYFW started with the Concept Korea's fashion show,

followed by a couple of photo shoots around Times Square. I changed 3 outfits during the day, ran back and forth between Skylight Moynihan Station (the show's venue), my hotel, and Times Square. It was tiring, but it was so fun, especially when I had a chance to do a photoshoot with my blogger friends. That's what fashion week is all about.

Like many people, I was trying to squeeze as many things in as I could during that time, so much, that my jetlag didn't have a chance to kick in. I was wearing this floral pantsuit which I bought a few months ago from ASOS. I love how the soft material of the suit flows nicely on my body, creating such an easy chic vibe. The kimono jacket added a glam factor to my whole look especially when the wind blew. It was the most photo-worthy moment for street style photographers.

Some beautiful designs from Concept Korea that caught my attention.

Ending the first morning with an interview by the local media. The first half of the day went by just like that, I'll update you again on the second half of the day.

FROM STREET TO STORIES NEW YORK FASHION WEEK 2015 By: Marion Calunsag New York Fashion Week has never been more New York-y than ever. The colours, from yellow like the street lights to pitch black, to subtle designer voices to mega brands showcasing its might and creative imagery. Unveiling the Spring 2016 collection, marking new beginning and redifining the current trend; DKNY without the founder Donna Karan, Givenchy is having a showcase at Pier 26 choreographed with the help of performance artist Marina Abramovi, and Nepali designer Prabal Gurung staged an emotional tribute to his homeland, in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake last April. Before 8-day Fashion Week spectacle moves New York and to London, many fashion enthusiasts are getting into the what the fashion weeks is saying, the trend it is reflecting, and what are the clothes’ statement.

With a vision of building a lifestyle brand for the downtown romantic, San Diego-born designer Rebecca Minkoff founded her company in 2001 after she developed a small apparel line. She spent the next few years working on the small collection until 2005 when Rebecca developed the “Morning After Bag”. The bag became an overnight sensation and Rebecca began solely concentrating on developing additional styles to build out her romantically themed day-to-night handbag collection. After four years of consistent growth in accessories under her belt, Rebecca returned to her original love of apparel design and introduced a ready-to-wear collection in 2009.
