Korbin is a Fashion and Editorial Photographer living in Los Angeles. His love of photography began early while growing up in Detroit, where his father bought him his first film SLR camera.

After more than 20 years of working in styling and creative direction for fashion and commercial clients, Toronto-based Kenneth Koon moved behind the camera in 2008. He has since established himself as an in-demand photographer with a distinctive vision—one that most often finds its expression through his ongoing exploration of the male body. Drawn from the communities of Canadian and American cities, the men that he shoots reflect a mixture of confidence and passion, strength and sensuality, captured in bold images whose technical assurance and dark beauty provide the foundation for their power.

Born 1978 in Leipzig, East Germany. Started out in a fashion design school, later on changing subject to graphic design.

William Callan is a whirlwind of loud 90’s music, cult classic references, flannel shirts, and childish laughter. Always looking for something interesting to photograph, William only has one rule when working: Don’t be boring.

After attending film school in Florida he moved to Los Angeles quickly discovering that photography was his true passion. His inspiration and passions lie in everything creative from art, interior design, film and music where a lot of his inspiration comes from. He feels that music has the power to inspire, comfort and energize. Korbin strives to capture the perfect mood in every photograph, that candid moment when the model is completely relaxed and unaware, that is when real emotion is captured.

His work has been seen in solo exhibitions in Ottawa and Montreal and group shows in New York City and Toronto. He is currently working on a solo exhibit in Chicago. His work and creative process is the subject of Through the Lens of inkedkenny, a 2012 documentary short by German directors Denize Galiao and Marie Elisa Scheidt. Produced in partnership with the Hochschule für Fernsehen und Film München and Canada’s L’institut national de l’image et du son, the film has been widely showcased on the European festival circuit.

In a move from Leipzig to Hamburg, Reno Mezger started his career change with the motto “all or nothing – and with every fibre of my being” moving on from his job as a graphic designer to fulfill his dream of being a photographer. Today his portfolio boasts scores of clients such as Nike, Levi’s, New Yorker und Roberto Cavalli, as well as publications in international journals such as Hunger magazine, Zink magazine or L’Officiel. Reno believes in success through hard work and effort. The 35 year old explains „The most reliable way to arrive at a concept is: turn off the telephone, disconnect the internet, sit alone in a room in front of a piece of white paper and only get up when something coherent has been produced”.

Growing up the eldest of 3 children in a modest home, William quickly learned how to ease tension and argument with his comic relief and the occasional fake fart noise. Believing that he will never truly grow up, this new age Peter Pan tries to find the inner child in his subjects and through his photography strives to convey a sense of carefree fun. A dear friend once compared William to Panda Express’s Orange Chicken: not too sweet, but not too sour; an overall crowd pleaser. William spends his time marking things off his bucket list and eating fast food in Los Angeles, CA.

he music of the time propagates new associations and cultural leagues, new ways of thinking. Music reflects the zeitgeist of a generation influencing all other creative art forms that are not mutually exclusive but inclusive to each other. “Music is not supposed to be nationalist. It is supposed to surpass language barriers. It is about generations communicating with each other.” ~ SIMON LE BON “I go to a very visual place when I’m singing. It’s very cinematic and I get this feeling of space. I love when music does that.h.” ~ DAVE GAHAN “Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower.” ~ STEVE JOBS “The most surprising thing is that people adopted the technology and made it their own.” ~ LARRY PAGE

Technology has changed the very landscape of the music industry and the sounds we prefer to listen to today. This technology that aims to enhance our lives for better–not just easier–and the holy creativity it inspires will be the aspirations of new musicians tomorrow. It’s only fitting to resign with the words of our quintessential Rock & Roll hero, Jim Morrison, who once said, “…I can kind of envision one person surrounded by a lot of machines— tapes and electronic setups—singing or speaking and using machines.” We look forward to seeing soon a rocker on stage slithering and singing his senses off to the bass-drop of a rocker DJ. Because, we are the beat of the culture. We hope you enjoy this exciting issue.

The single is a lead-in to the band’s follow up to 2013’s highly cinematic and proggy debut ‘Silver Mouth’, due out on BCore later this year. “Doppelganger” is another long form voyage for the band, the gazing brilliance of vintage synths and high energy jazz fills is like a cruise in the galaxy of kraut-rock. ans of Paul’s SS14 collection will recognise that acid pink tones of this season’s clothing have been replicated on his version of the Type75. Alongside this, Paul’s Anglepoise features a series of complementary pastel shades and a signed base. A true icon of design, the Anglepoise lamp was originally created, almost by accident, by the automotive engineer George Carwardine. It all started with the now-famous springs which hold the Anglepose in position. Carwardine had developed a new type of spring in 1932 which could be moved in every direction while retaining its rigidity. After some tinkering, Carwardine realised that these new flexible springs could be put to good use on a new poseable lamp suitable for the workshop. After perfecting his design, Carwardine licensed his new lamp to Herbert Terry & Sons, a manufacturer based at Redditch. The product was an instant success and a domestic version was introduced in 1936. Since its initial release the Anglepose has been fettled and finessed, but the initial design remains largely unchanged. In fact, in testament to the clarity and elegance of the original design, the new Type75 bares the strongest resemblance to George Carwardine’s original lamp, first fashioned by over 70 years ago. Soviet-Era Bootleg Recordings of Banned Western Music Pressed on Discarded X-Ray Plates

B

efore the availability of the tape recorder and during the 1950s, when vinyl was scarce, people in the Soviet Union began making records of banned Western music on discarded x-rays. With the help of a special device, banned bootlegged jazz and rock ‘n’ roll records were “pressed” on thick radiographs salvaged from hospital waste bins and then cut into discs of 23-25 centimeters in diameter. “They would cut the X-ray into a crude circle with manicure scissors and use a cigarette to burn a hole,” says author Anya von Bremzen. “You’d have Elvis on the lungs, Duke Ellington on Aunt Masha’s brain scan — forbidden Western music captured on the interiors of Soviet citizens.”

p u r e l l e j k S e Blak New Zealand born, 2010 Olympic speed skater Blake Skjellerup finds himself in NYC skating on new ground. At the young age of 29, Blake seems to have accomplished a great deal; from winning 5 national titles and breaking numerous national records, to competing at the 2010 Olympic games in Vancouver, to just missing out on the chance to compete in the Sochi games in 2014, to coming out publicly in the world of sports to now living in the great NYC. Frank Louis: You started competing at the age of 10. Where does that drive come from? Blake Skjellerup: “I loved skating from day 1! All I wanted to do was skate 24/7. I lived, breathed, and bleed for the sport that quickly consumed my life. My parents went through a tumultuous divorce when I was 10, and skating was my escape from the disruption at home. The drive came easy as I loved what I was doing”. FL: How would you describe the experience of competing in an Olympic competition? BS:“In one word, Intense! The pressure to perform and make your country proud is huge. At the same time however it was a moment I had dreamed of for years, and the actualization of my aspiration was extremely overwhelming and gratifying. The sport of speed skating sadly has a quaint following outside of the Olympics, and skating in front of a sold out 12,000 capacity stadium was the most memorable part”. FL: You have been a strong advocate p.

036

for anti-bullying initiatives, and spoken about your own personal experiences with bullying. Do you think being bullied as a child affected you as an athlete? BS: “I was bullied from the age of 12, for reasons I still don’t fully understand. Bullying most definitely affected my athletic endeavors. I was, shall we say, very confused as to who I was, and what I could be. I had constant self-doubt, and that weighed on my confidence as a person, and even more as an athlete. Having to defend myself and defend my sport daily was extremely tiring. In turn being bullied gave me purpose, extreme passion and added drive for my sport and goals. That purpose and drive was to prove those who didn’t believe in me wrong”. FL: You came out in 2010, at the time when very few athletes were coming out, where you worried it would have a negative affect on your career and why did you feel it so important to come out? BS: “I had initial concerns that coming out would affect my career, but I realized that they were trivial and I really had nothing to loose. I felt it important to come out as I hate the thought of a 16-year-old going through what I went through. Understanding and accepting who I was should have been easy; but the bullying, and lack of role models led me to believe I was alone, and the only person in the world going through what I was going through”. FL: If you could speak to your 10 year old self now, what would you say? BS: “Hindsight is a beautiful virtue, and I don’t regret my life and what issue

To my 10 year old self I would affirm what I have been saying to myself since then, you can do this“. FL: You are planning a bike tour around the United States, visiting schools along the way to share your story and message. Please tell us about this tour and what message do you hope to convey? BS: “Yeah, I am really excited by this project. In September I will be starting a three-part bike tour across the United States. Part 1 is from New York City to Chicago. Covering over 1000 miles across New Jersey, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois, visiting 17 different cities in 23 days. The message is about inclusion and acceptance of all students on the playing field, no matter their ability, sexuality, race or gender. Sport teaches us a lot about ourselves, and to hear that youth shy away from participating due to an exclusively portrayed environment is sad and unfortunate. I want to share the importance of inclusion to youth and educators, telling my story and how sport helped me, and most importantly breaking the stigma that surrounds inclusion for LGBT people in sport. Part 2 of the project is from Sacramento to Los Angeles, with part 3 being from Jacksonville to Houston”. FL: Why have you decided to live in NYC? BS: “Lets call it fate! I knew that this past season of skating was going be my last. I had mentally prepared as best as I could for a new chapter in my life. I wasn’t yet ready to return to New Zealand from Calgary in Canada where I had been training no.

for the past 12 months; I was toying with the idea of moving to either London or Los Angeles. During the early months of 2014 I was involved with the filming of a documentary focused on the 2014 Olympics in Sochi. I was flown to New York to film my closing scene and I fell in love with the place, now here I am”. FL: What’s the biggest surprise for you about living in NYC? BS: “How amazing the pizza is here! LOL. The limitation of space, the amount of people, and lack of sheep are a surprise! New York City has a population twice that of the entire country of New Zealand, and New Zealand has a sheep population 7 times that of its human population, you do the math”. FL: Who are your favorite designers and what does Blake wear on a typical day? BS: “As an athlete I lived in sweats and a baggy t-shirt. Recently my fashion sense has taken a crash course in big city living. Some of my favorite designers are Todd Snyder and Michael Bastian. I’m definitely more laid back in my style. Cool athletic-wear and sneakers but dress it up with a great blazer. Sneakers are a must in NYC so I invest in nicer leather and suede ones like a brand I discovered through my boyfriend called Hydrogen-1 that are great with denim and suit-able”. FL: What type of music do you like and who is a must have on your play lists? BS: “I have an eclectic taste in music. A must have in my play list is Rihanna! Right now my top 5 tracks are by Hunter Hayes, Daley, MKTO, 5 Seconds of Summer, and Beyoncé”. FL: Aside from the bike tour, what else do you have planned? BS: “I’m really enjoying life outside of sport for now. Being a full time athlete came with a lot of sacrifices. I am loving all the new opportunities that are coming my way, and I am really looking forward to a New York summer”. BlakeSkjellerup.com

It’s the star’s latest technology venture, following on from his “director of creative innovation” role with Intel, announced in January 2011. Will.i.am also had a minority stake in Beats Electronics, the headphones brand recently bought by Apple for $3bn.

The Ekocycle Cube printer is being made by 3D Systems, the US-based manufacturer that announced Will.i.am as its chief creative officer in January this year. Coca-Cola is also a partner in the project, which is an offshoot from its existing Ekocycle venture with the Black Eyed Peas star.

His other tech projects include building social media site Dipdive in 2008; launching apps developer Will.i.apps in 2011 to make a music video app for the Black Eyed Peas; and producing a range of i.am+ iPhone accessories in 2013. In April this year, he showed off a prototype smartwatch during an appearance on British comedian Alan Carr’s chat show, telling the audience: “I started the company myself. I funded it, used my own money to develop it.”

ill.i.am’s iPhone camera accessory may not have taken the gadget world by storm, but his next technology product could make more of an impact: a 3D printer that sources its materials partly from recycled plastic bottles.

3D Systems will start selling the device in the second half of 2014 with a launch price of $1,199 (£706). Its cartridges will include filament – 3D printing’s equivalent of ink for traditional printers – partly made from used plastic bottles. The company says each cartridge will contain 25% of “post-consumer recycled materials”, using an average of three bottles. The Ekocycle Cube is very on-brand, printing objects of up to six inches cubed in red, black, white or “natural” colours. Will.i.am is designing 25 “fashion, music and tech minded accessories” for buyers of the device, which will also use the Cubify smartphone app to browse and print designs. “We will make it cool to recycle, and we will make it cool to make products using recycled materials,” said Will.i.am in a statement. “This is the beginning of a more sustainable 3D-printed lifestyle. Waste is only waste if we waste it.” no.

In an appearance (via Skype) at music industry conference Midem in February, Will.i.am said that more musicians should be following the lead of Beats founders Jimmy Iovine and Dr Dre in getting into hardware. “It’s sad that as a collective industry, we don’t do our own hardware. It’s only three people: Jim, Dre and myself – that’s Beats – that have hardware,” he said. “I surround myself with megasupergeeks, so we can make and market hardware and things like that. Maybe I’m chasing something I would probably never catch, but I’ve been here before when I was in the ghetto chasing the dream of starting a band.” Cubify.com Ekocycle.com p.

retty Green , Liam Gallagher’s Spring/Summer 2014 collection take their inspiration from the bold psychedelia of the Beatles’ Magical Mystery Tour. The brand is deeply influenced by the styles which exemplify the personality and rebellion of rock n’ roll. Clearly, its lineage prevails across the breadth of this upcoming collection and honors Britain’s music heritage in classic style. Fans can anticipate a unique blend of classic sixties and modern designs. The basis for the SS14 collection may be the colorful graphics and shapes of the sixties, but the modern Pretty Green twists suggest an attitude that is rooted in the 21st century. Pretty Green says the collection ‘uses many of the strong graphical images from Magical Mystery Tour, which are manipulated to create a new fresh set of prints.’ The new pieces that were previewed at the Covent Garden shop feature dynamic all-overprints, pops of graphics, and explosions of bright colors. Pretty Green’s design director, Pat Salter commented on SS14: ‘There is such a rich tapestry of inspiration to draw on when you look back over our great British music history. The Magical Mystery Tour is one of those events that sticks out as a moment in time. We don’t want to replicate; we’re just immersed in trying to recapture the feel of all that interesting British melting pot of color and style.’ The main influence for the Spring/ Summer collection was the original jackets worn by the Beatles for the Magical Mystery Tour. The classic ‘Fool On The Hill’ jacket, as worn by Paul McCartney, features strong military stylings and is made from a lightweight Italian nylon. The Harrison denim jacket has a washed-out, lived-in look that will complement many styles. More casual pieces include t-shirts with bold designs claiming ‘We are altogether’ and ‘We love.’ Ultimately, this season’s range will deliver a mixture of signature outerwear pieces, paisley shirts, and Gallagher’s inimitable street wear. Pretty Green will also be offering a more affordable collection for the next season, so even mods on a budget can look good. PrettyGreen.com

ameron Moir is a British newcomer Actor and Writer hailing from the Island of Jersey, Channel Islands not to be confused with New Jersey Cameron often explains. “It’s 5 by miles by 10, with lots of beaches and feels like your living “Under the dome”. Cameron studied at Stella Adler Studio of Acting, New York where he homed his skills perfecting the method acting technique. He then performed in a number of Off-Broadway Productions as well as staging his own work. This year he starred alongside Liam Neeson and Lupita Nyong’o in the Action Thriller Non-Stop where he played a Flight Attendant. Although this wasn’t a huge role for Cameron (he found out on the way to the Premiere that they had changed his character name “Peter” to “Steward”) it immediately led on to a range of different characters in films set to release this year and next. He just wrapped filming Desire Directed by Hala Matar starring Johnny Knoxville. Desire is a 1950’s film noir that takes place on a chaotic set of a snuff film whereby the director (Johnny Knoxville) is trying to manipulate his actors played by Sophie Kennedy Clark and Matthew Grey

Gubler to commit a crime “by accident”. Cameron plays Director’s Script Supervisor and can’t understand why he’s acting so strange. Hala Matar impressed by his work cast him again in a Short film for Nowness.com called Fruit De Mer in which Cameron plays a sadistic waiter named Adrian alongside C Thomas Howell (The Outsiders). Cameron said “We filmed at Bar Marmont and basically the film comprises of me and my boss (C Thomas Howell) torturing this poor girl who wants leave the bar with an absurd twist at the end”. His next upcoming role is low life thief in a horror film called Farewell Party which is being Produced by John Amos and filming at Massaro House, located on Petre Island in Lake Mahopac, New York. Cameron said he is not allowed to talk too much about the film but that it involves “a slew of young pretty people fighting for their lives while on an insane amount of drugs”. Cameron focuses his spare on time on his Writing, he is in Pre-Production for the 2nd Season of his Web Series Englishman In LA . The series is filmed in a reality show style and is about a British author, Tom Dingle, who comes to

Los Angeles to promote his best-selling romance novel, only to be swallowed up by “the entertainment biz” when his book is threatened to become a cliche Hollywood movie. The first Season comprised of 9 Episodes each ranging from 3 to 6 minutes starring Ashley Fink (GLEE), Eddie Jemison (Ocean’s 11,12,13) and many more talented Actors. IN TOUCH WEEKLY said “Love It” and Broadway World called it “Hilarious”. The Series recently won seven Awards at the LA Web Series Festival and Cameron Moir was one of the panel speakers at the festival. Cameron is currently residing in Los Angeles and has received a ridiculous amount of parking tickets as well as a Jay Walking ticket on Larchmont. He says: “at this rate I feel like I am not too far away from starring in my own version of Orange Is New Black but I think I would die in the pilot.” He is looking forward to filming in New York late this Summer and visiting his friends in London where he says “it’s pretty much ok to drink on the street there, so obviously I like it.” CameronMoir.com

ongwriting, Smooth singing. Ghost hunting. Eye-catching. Hair hero. Once in a lifetime. All around cool guy. Matthew Jude is blessed – he seems to know exactly where he is going, and exactly how to get there. Where others fail to make an impression amid today’s information overload, Matthew’s music and talent cut straight through. A pop star in the making, Matthew Jude has both magnetism and talent that is undeniable. Listening to his shimmering guitar melodies, energetic beats, and fresh lyrics, the Los Angeles-based Matthew Jude evokes confidence and polish. He’s both utterly self-assured but still charmingly down-to-earth. Born in Southern California to a creative family, music was ingrained in Matthew’s youth. He used to sing everyday with his mother and sister growing up. At

age 5, he started teaching himself piano. In high school he taught himself guitar, and began playing music in local churches. His passion for music carried over to his academic years when Matthew studied music at Cal Poly Pomona University. Fontana, his hometown, wasn’t one of the world’s great musical hotspots and his search for musical collaborators led him to producer Mike Shapiro [Justin Timberlake, will.i.am]. In 2013, he hit the studio with Shapiro in order to begin recording what would eventually become the EP. Together, they tapped into a sound he refers to as “refreshing and earthy”. His inspirations include contemporary pop artists like Jason Mraz, John Mayer, and Bruno Mars, and classic artists such as Van Morrison and The Temptations. Matthew is the sole songwriter on all songs he performs and records. Passionate and thoughtful energy courses through

the first single “Rush Like the Wind”. The song is illustrative of his ability to strike an emotional chord with his honest songwriting and powerful vocal delivery. Imbuing a fresh spirit into traditional pop, “Rush Like the Wind” is about true romance. Matthew reveals, “It’s a timeless story about wanting to show someone how you feel about them, but not being able to. I’m sending my feelings to the person so they will never feel alone.” Matthew has spent most of 2013 gigging non-stop in Southern California to swooning teenage fans. Ultimately, Matthew is all about uplifting listeners. “I’d love for people to be able to take this with them and want to hear it over and over again,” he concludes. “And, if it happens to help someone on their journey in life, that would be truly amazing.” MatthewJudeWorld.com

ang & Olufsen have produced a limited edition series of wireless speakers for their A9 stereo system. Bang & Olufsen produced a Nordic Sky edition of its award winning BeoPlay A9 premium speaker. The new BeoPlay A9 NordicSky edition is revolutionary as it pays homage to one of the most celebrated aspects of Scandinavian design and architecture: The use of light to set the mood. BeoPlay A9 Nordic Sky Edition comes in three different variants that are reflective of the unique Scandinavian long summer nights. Its design philosophy is to capture the sun’s positioning, just below the horizon, still elegantly illuminating the sky and keeping the nights long and intense. Therefore, there are three Nordic Sky

colors offered in twilight, dawn and dusk variants – to keep the memory and beauty of summer alive all year long. “From the sweet blue lights at Twilight to the green darkness of Dawn and all the way to the eerie redness of Dusk, the three different editions of Nordic Sky let you dress up your BeoPlay A9 and change its appearance to match your mood,” says Marie Kristine Schmidt, Head of Creative Center, Bang & Olufsen. “We’ve captured and recreated the essence of Scandinavian summer and made it part of our product concept. We cherish and celebrate light up here in the north – and Nordic Sky is just that, a celebration. The way that a song can invoke memories so can the feeling of a summer night spent outside with those close to you” says Marie Kristine Schmidt and continues “and with a launch here in August as darkness looms we’re hoping issue

to extend summer just a bit.” Nordic Sky is available in 3 different editions: Twilight (blue gradient, legs made of oak tree, blue feet), Dawn (green gradient, legs made of beech tree, grey feet), Dusk (red gradient, legs made of walnut tree, pink feet). “BeoPlay A9 is instantly recognizable but at the same time ever changing and able to stay fashionable whatever the season,” says Henrik Taudorf Lorensen, Corporate Vice President of B&O PLAY. “We’ve succeeded in creating a modern design classic with BeoPlay A9 and one of the greatest things about the product is your ability to give it a personal touch – and make it ‘just yours’. We believe Nordic Sky is a testament to that strength.” BeOPlay.com no.

lijah Wood and his friend Zach Cowie decided to combine the two things they love the most: Irish whiskey and music. And so they designed a special pair of headphones: the Bushmills Irish Whiskey x Grado Labs headphones. Frodo Baggins, the Lord of the Rings himself loved music and a good shot of liquor. And so does Elijah Wood and his best friend, not Sam, but Zach Cowie. And since friends can actually achieve miracles together, they decided to perform one themselves. To bring together two giants: Bushmills Irish Whiskey and Grado Labs in order to design and produce a unique line of headphones, made of wood and leather. Sounds like an unlikely collaboration, yet this collaboration should not come

as a surprise, since Brooklyn based Grado Labs is in fact celebrating 60 years of tradition in creating what’s known as probably the world’s best headphones. And these surely are refined like a fine whiskey. Designed by actor Elijah Wood and Zach Cowie, the headphones feature recycled white oak bodies recovered from the wood of old barrels used by the Bushmills Distillery, and custom brown leather headbands and are priced at $395. So audiophiles, looking to incorporate more whiskey into their sound setup can now place their order, on Turntable Lab. So, yes. To even say that these headphones have tons of street cred, would definitely be an understatement. Bushmills.com GradoLabs.com

ecord covers are a sign of our life and times. Like the music on the discs, they address such issues as love, life, death, fashion, and rebellion. For music fans the covers are the expression of a period, of a particular time in their lives. Many are works of art and have become as famous as the music they stand for— Andy Warhol’s covers, for example, including the banana he designed for The Velvet Underground.

his book, somewhere between photojournalism and an illustrated diary, follows The Police around the globe between 1980 and 1983. From the American West to Australia to Japan, Summers recorded not only the band members rehearsing and partying— the proverbial sex, drugs, and rock and roll—he also photographed fans, landscapes, still lifes, and passersby in a reportage style reminiscent of Henri Cartier-Bresson and Robert Frank. Containing over 600 photos and filled with diarystyle entries, I’ll Be Watching You is a sumptuous volume beating with musical energy, nostalgia, and atmospheric beauty. A must for photo buffs and Police fans alike.

This edition of Record Covers presents a selection of the best rock album covers of the 60s to 90s from music archivist, disc jockey, journalist, and former record-publicity executive Michael Ochs’s enormous private collection. Both a trip down memory lane and a study in the evolution of cover art, this is a sweeping look at an underappreciated art form. Taschen.com

Silicon Valley Story by Michael Lewis (2001). This tale showed how all roads led to Jim Clark, the founder of Silicon Graphics, Netscape and Healtheon. Lewis, the author of Liar’s Poker, swept into Silicon Valley and cozied up to Clark, the brilliant graphics expert who became the most important technology entrepreneur of the 1990s. The tale shows how the boom surrounding the internet turned the geeky Clark into one of the valley’s first billionaires. Clark rewrote the rules of Silicon Valley and capitalism itself. Lewis also chronicled Clark’s creation of Hyperion, a high-tech yacht that was more complex than a 747. Like Kidder, Lewis is a great storyteller who captured the poignant moments of Clark’s life. Clark didn’t set the world on fire with Healtheon, but his protegé, Marc Andreessen, has inherited the mantle of the uber-entrepreneur and investor of Silicon Valley.

aoto Fukasawa (b.1956) is one of the best-known Japanese product designers working today. His simple, restrained and userfriendly products appeal to people’s shared experience of things. The wall-mounted CD player he designed for MUJI in 1999, based on the image of a kitchen fan, was selected into MoMA’s design collection in 2005. The book is the first survey on Fukasawa’s work to be published in English. Edited by Fukasawa himself, and with contributions by artists, designers and lecturers, such as Antony Gormley and Jasper Morrison, the book introduces the reader to the designer’s particular and innovative design approach. Illustrated with newly commissioned photography, the book showcases over 100 products, which Fukasawa elucidates with a clever combination of images and words.
