What is the

Catalyst project?

There is plenty that sets an SAS high school education apart from that of other international schools, and certainly, from that of other US high schools. One of the most notable is the Catalyst project, an in-depth personalized learning experience.

The Catalyst project is a cultural as well as instructional self-study project where students work with a mentor on a self-directed learning experience. Each project is aimed at a specific and strategic, measurable, attainable, results-oriented, and time-bound goal. Students demonstrate their competency in the Catalyst project’s standards, centered around character, collaboration, communication, creativity, critical thinking, and cultural competence, also known as the school’s learning aspirations, in addition to self-awareness and application.

According to the latest research in education, learning is at its greatest, most relevant, and most meaningful when it is student-initiated and student-led. Ask adults today what they remember learning in high school, and their answer will often involve a learning opportunity where they were able to dive deep into an area of interest, often applying what they were learning in an authentic context. Colleges also recognize students who have the opportunity to dive deep, overcome challenges, and find meaning in their learning as stronger candidates for admission and success in college. This reality is the foundation and rationale for the Catalyst project course.

This innovative and engaging approach to education challenges high school juniors and seniors to embark upon a culminating final project in an area of their particular passion and interest.

2

Similar to other academic offerings, the Catalyst project course includes a set of desired learning outcomes. The objective of the course is to harness students’ core knowledge, develop their character, and hone their skills in collaboration, communication, creativity and innovation, critical thinking, and cultural competence. All these values will help ensure success when they go on to pursue bachelor’s degrees at colleges and universities all over the world and in life beyond.

The Catalyst project gives students the opportunity to pursue their own paths of exploration in an academic setting, while demonstrating their readiness for university learning to the fullest extent of their enthusiasm, autonomy, capacity, and complexity. A student may conduct university laboratory research into autoimmunity treatment, or establish their own cosmetics company. They might want to conduct an extended service learning project, or perhaps spend a semester as an intern in a working art studio. There are no limits to what a student can do in Catalyst.

The Catalyst Project is a rite of passage for every SAS High School Student to take in their Senior or Junior year. Ultimately, Catalyst represents a formidable feature of the SAS high school education, one that sets SAS high school graduates apart, differentiates them from their peers across the globe, and proves their unique abilities, capacity for excellence, and readiness for achievement at the university level.

DJing for SAS Students Preserving Life’s Tapestry: The Importance of Documenting Experiences

This project explores the intersection of student preferences and DJing techniques, focusing on the use of mainstream music tastes with my personal style which is house music. Specifically, the project investigates the process of blending house and Afro house music. Through a mixedmethods approach, incorporating both quantitative analysis of student musical preferences and qualitative exploration of DJing strategies, this project seeks to uncover effective methods for seamlessly integrating the DJ’s individual artistic expression with the demand for familiar and engaging tracks.

As seniors, we shoulder a multitude of responsibilities encompassing friends, family, grades, and college applications. With everything converging into a single year and location, we find ourselves juggling numerous priorities simultaneously. Amidst this whirlwind, we often overlook the significance of the smaller, more intimate moments – the laughter, smiles, tears, and heartfelt connections. Recognizing this, I embarked on a project to create a digital montage capturing the essence of my senior year, while engaging in conversations with my closest friends about the challenges and triumphs of senior year. This endeavor not only serves as a personal reflection but also aims to provide guidance for incoming seniors on navigating this pivotal phase of their lives.

Checkmate Waste: Infusing Sustainability into Every Move

The world is shifting towards a greener future, with renewable energy adoption, waste reduction efforts, and eco-conscious consumerism on the rise. Yet, why hasn’t this ethos been incorporated into something as timeless as chess? Amidst a global pandemic, chess has surged in popularity, fueled primarily by content creators streaming on notable platforms and the advent of the Netflix show, The Queen’s Gambit. While the game is still heavily played online, this newfound fascination has resulted in an increased demand for physical chessboards. Motivated to experiment with sustainable alternatives, I explored constructing a chessboard through various eco-friendly or reclaimed materials.

Be the Next Tetris Scoring Champion

In this presentation, I’ll be showing my video that teaches people on what are the most efficient and best strategies for scoring for the different versions of Tetris. I hope that this video may introduce to people that Tetris is not as boring as it seems. While people think that clearing the most amount of lines is the obvious solution, modern games have introduced modifications to make it more interesting. I have been actively playing Tetris for two years and put hundreds of hours into it. I’m confident that after the presentation, you’ll develop a fondness for this stacking game.

How to Navigate the Legal Landscape: A Guide For High School Students Considering a Career in Law

Law. Just the word seems overwhelming. For a teenager who knows they want to study law, navigating the vast field can seem daunting. As a high school student myself, I struggled to find a distinct starting point. Where could I begin my journey in law? Through research and personal experience, I uncovered valuable insights about all the ins and outs about networking, learning, and immersing yourself in the law. I compiled all this knowledge into an accessible website tailored for high school students like me. If you’re considering a career in law, let me be your starting point.

Braiding Bridges: Building Connections through Hair Artistry

Growing up, hair was always something that had the ability to alter how you saw yourself.

Rooted in a deep love for both hair and art, I dive headfirst into the world of natural hair and braiding with minimal prior experience. I am embarking on a journey from humble beginnings, where my project is a testament to the fusion of culture, passion, and perseverance. Yet, it is this very passion that fuels my determination to master the craft. Each strand becomes a canvas, each braid a masterpiece in the making.

Cookies and Customer Service: Optimizing Sales with Strategic Marketing

An avid baker for over a decade, nothing brings me more joy than sharing baked goods with friends and family. After starting my own small cookie business at the beginning of my senior year, I utilized Catalyst project as an opportunity to develop skills in finance and marketing with the hope of increasing revenue. I streamlined the systems by which customers place and pay for orders, prioritizing a cashless transaction without losing money to a third-party online payment service. Most notably, I expanded my consumer base tremendously by trying new marketing methods, such as giving out free samples, as well as establishing myself on social media for promotion purposes. Using these new skills, my business has graduated from one-person sales to catering small, and eventually larger, events.

From Sketchpad to Spotlight: Recognizing Women’s Contributions in STEM”

Imagine spending your life on a discovery that changed mankind, just for your male counterparts to receive the credit. This, unfortunately, is the case of many female scientists. A lifelong passion for art and an interest to pursue science in university has driven me to combine these interests for my Catalyst project. My goal was to create portraits of female scientists with descriptions of their accomplishments to hang in middle school. This was to both give credit to the overlooked scientists as well as help young women feel less alone in the field.

Shaping the Future of Fitness Through Athletic Training and an Online Presence

By blending a dynamic, personalized training regime with an expanding digital presence on various social media platforms, this project aims to empower individuals towards pursuing a healthier lifestyle. The project emphasizes continuous physical development to meet diverse needs and leverages social media to extend my reach and impact. This initiative represents a movement towards combating obesity and promoting health as a collective choice within the SAS community and other young adults. Through the freedom the Catalyst project allows, I have developed my skills in project management, social media content development, and expertise in the health and wellness industry.

Paws

and Progress:

A Journey in Dog Training Excellence

Paws and Progress is a project capturing my journey and exploration into effective dog training methods. This project involves working with professionals and capturing videos of sessions that focus on learning new techniques and conducting research into dog behaviors. I compile these insights into edited videos, aiming to share what I’ve learned with others interested in training their dogs. The focus is on practical obedience training on and off the leash. Ultimately, it’s about creating a resource that documents my process, while educating and empowering other dog owners to enhance their relationship with their pets through positive training methods.

Courtside Chats: High School Athletes

There are over 5 million podcasts online and over 70 million episodes. How many of them would give you an insightful view of high school sports? I had conversations with high school athletes from different sports, ranging from baseball to rugby, to share with you their unique experiences and journey to competing in varsity. You’ll watch and hear about different success stories and different lows – all combined in an easily accessible and digestible way – through a podcast. Take a glimpse into the process that made everything possible.

Welcome to Marsiling: A Friendly Introduction to the Wonderful Neighborhood That Surrounds Our School

Take a moment and think: What do you know about Marsiling, other than that SAS is loacted here? If you stared blankly and answered, “Not much”, this is for you. Go with me on a journey to learn more about the rich community that surrounds us. It has countless things to offer minutes away from the school gates! From affordable and tasty local food choices to existing as a snapshot of Singapore’s alluring history of hawker culture and local food slang, this is a great opportunity for you to learn a little more about the place you’re growing up in.

Breaking It Down: The ABC’s of Skincare and Makeup

I’ve always been interested in makeup and skincare, but I never properly learned it. As a beginner, therefore, I often received horrified looks when I showed up at school with cakey foundation or uneven eyeliner. If I had a suitable mentor during those times, though, I would’ve learned much faster! I’ve decided to dedicate my Catalyst project to this purpose. Since January, I’ve created shortform tutorials on affordable products for beginners like myself. While these videos are not published online, my goal was to help others learn how to use these products based on what’s worked for me.

Amplify the Change: Rebuilding for Environmental Resilience

Battleship: Tactical Analysis

Have you ever wondered about the speakers your music comes from? Now have you considered the environmental ramifications of those speakers?

Have you ever thought about where your music speakers come from or stopped to think about how they might impact the environment? This project is about making amplifiers more environmentally friendly. By focusing on reusing and repurposing components, I am able to carefully rebuild and repair amps. Using clever techniques, I turn old or broken amplifiers into reusable gear. This revitalizes the amplifiers and helps reduce electronic waste. My overall goal is to promote sustainability in the audio equipment industry as a whole.

For my Catalyst project, I decided to create a special Python program. The purpose of this program is to give us a better shot at winning the game of battleship by calculating probability. I split the whole strategy/code into two main parts: One focuses on defense strategies, and the other on how we can attack better. For my defensive strategy, I collected data from the company that runs battleship to navigate the habit of battleship players. For the attacking strategy, I used a special algorithm to find the highest probability of a ship occurring.

Designing a Keyboard: The Aesthetic, Personalization, and Functional Design of a Keyboard

Back in 2020, everyone got a little bit bored. Stuck inside our houses with nothing to do we had to figure out new ways to live. The way that I coped with it, was building a PC. For weeks I researched the different parts, their manufacturers, the problems with certain specs, and the costs vs performance of parts. Eventually, I managed to complete the PC and it felt so good knowing that I had just built a fully functioning computer all on my own. The fact that I had made all the choices behind its parts, it’s design, and its looks just made it all the more beautiful.

Now, in 2024, I am faced with a similar issue. I am once again a little bored. So I decided that for my catalyst project, I would design and build a mechanical keyboard with custom 3D printed keycaps. I want to investigate the difference that personally building the components of a computer setup has on the look and feel of the setup while also commenting on the process of building a keyboard.

Capturing Dance Through a Lens

I’ve always taken pleasure in experimenting with different art forms, dancing since the age of five, playing different instruments, and creating different crafts. I became interested in photography when I discovered how the world can be captured through lenses. I combined this new interest with dance, a constant art form throughout my life. For my catalyst project, I started a photography business for dancers in order to address body image issues. With my project, I hope to raise awareness and spread positivity of body image through photography.

Pipe Dreams: The PVC Saxophone Project

I’ve played the saxophone for over five years, cultivating a deep passion for the instrument. Teaching myself music and nurturing my interest, I’ve also longed to be an engineer. Merging both passions, I embarked on building a PVC saxophone. Despite lacking experience and guidance, I tackled this challenging task. As a graduating senior, I aimed to leave with fond memories, making this project a perfect choice.

Hammering Out the Details: Reigniting the Fire of a Lost Trade

Many techniques that previous generations once held in high esteem are rapidly being lost to time. However, the ability to make things with your hands through improvisation and willpower are traits that I don’t want me or others to have lost. For example, my grandpa is one of those people who can fix just about anything and is constantly making, designing, and repairing countless items. The act of creating something with your hands gives purpose. Thus, for my Catalyst project, I wanted to leap back in time to explore a trade that is being forgotten. I landed on Blacksmithing.

Resolutions to Results

Did you know that studies reveal up to 92% of people fail to achieve their new year’s resolutions? In response, I undertook a project to create a comprehensive bullet journal manual and a formatted bullet journal to empower individuals to take the initiative in themselves. This initiative aimed to guide users in setting goals, tracking progress, and dedicating more time to organization and self-improvement. The audience will hear about the importance of goal-setting, effective tracking methods, and strategies for staying organized. Additionally, they will see examples of formatted bullet journal pages designed to facilitate goal attainment and personal growth.

Essence of Nostalgia: Crafting Perfumes to Ignite Memories

Scent is often neglected in storytelling, overshadowed by visual and literary techniques. Yet, it holds a unique capability to evoke memories and emotions, reaching beyond the confines of language and sight. It can resurrect moments that seem lost to the ravages of cognitive decline, offering a tangible link to the past. This project leverages this underutilized sensory pathway, crafting fragrances that embody the essence of memories, emotions, and experiences tied to specific life events. This method challenges traditional storytelling paradigms and enriches our understanding of memory’s fragility and resilience.

Revolutionize Your Routine: Sustainable Skincare Solutions Your Skin Craves

After countless trials with various skincare products cluttering my bathroom, I embarked on a mission to create a sustainable solution. Combining eco-conscious ingredients and packaging, I carefully crafted soothing balms to combat dry skin conditions. Initially hesitant about ingredient sustainability and efficacy, extensive research led to a perfected formula. Through trial and error, I achieved the ideal consistency, scent, and formulation. Testing on myself and family members confirmed its efficacy. Experience the difference – where sustainability meets skincare excellence – with Sustainable Body Balms.

Tomorrow’s Cities: A Blueprint for Urban Havens

Have you imagined what the city of your dreams would look like? A place where streets coexist with lush greenery, where commuting is a breeze, and community thrives. Being in Singapore, a celebrated urban oasis, we’re fortunate to experience glimpses of such a reality. Yet, many cities worldwide face challenges that hinder livability and sustainability. This project envisions a city that harmonizes environmental stewardship, seamless mobility, and vibrant community life – a blueprint informed by the best practices of urban innovators globally. Here, I’ll unlock the secrets to cities that emulate Singapore’s success while pushing the boundaries of what’s possible.

Beyond the Screen: A Journey to Self Awareness

In an era where digital distractions reign supreme, communal bonds falter, and the essence of community slips away, I decided to immerse myself and hop on this trend by spending hours behind a screen… video-editing. Through producing, directing, and shooting, my goal is to ignite a spark within teenagers, urging them to break free from screen-induced isolation. This project seeks to instill an appreciation for shared experiences and rekindle connections to the vibrant world beyond our devices. Join me on a journey to rediscover the joys of genuine human connection, as we bridge the gap between virtuality and reality.

CryptoKickstart: Connecting Aspiring Enthusiasts with the Basics of Cryptocurrency

Cryptocurrency has transformed over the past decade into a mainstream investment option, shaping the future of the global financial system. As its popularity continues to rise, my hope is to educate both myself and others on the field. Through this project, I am aiming to provide individuals who are looking to enter the crypto trading field with a comprehensive guide on social media to what it is, where to start, and what resources to look for in order to learn the basics. Although the field may seem vast and intimidating to explore, being able to learn and master the basics of crypto can prove to be rewarding.

Filipino Food Culture: A Cultural Odyssey Through Authentic Cuisine

Your Favorite Fragrances Reviewed

Growing up in Singapore, I have always felt a slight disconnect from my Filipino heritage. Yet, I have always maintained a sense of appreciation in my own culture. However, I have always found a strong link to Filipino food. For my Catalyst project, I wanted to spread Filipino Food Culture to the younger generation. Seeing as the world seems to continue to be culturally divided, I aim to combat this problem by spreading Filipino culture to others. By utilizing TikTok to create and post cooking videos containing recipes to Filipino foods, I aim to create a more culturally knowledgeable world.

With the recent rise in popularity of fragrances, as well as the absurd pricing points on some of them, it is essential to make well-informed purchases and not irrational blind buys. To help other teenagers and fragrance lovers be smarter when buying fragrances, I create informative and engaging TikTok videos. In the videos, I talk about important categories such as pricing and performance to make sure the fragrance you decide to buy is a bang for your buck.

Directing a Large Scale Film Production

Sonus: A Personalized Music Tutoring Service Made for SAS

Managing and directing a large-scale film production involves overseeing every aspect from pre-production to distribution. I have to have a creative vision, guiding actors and making critical decisions. Coordination is vital, with various departments working together under tight schedules and budgets. Effective leadership, clear communication and problem-solving. Strategic planning is essential for securing funding, scouting locations, and managing resources. Flexibility is key in navigating challenges like weather disruptions and script changes. Success lies in balancing artistic vision with logistical demands.

This ongoing project aims to enhance music education opportunities for students at SAS by focusing on building a website catering towards musical tutors. Despite numerous existing platforms, the website offers a unique approach, serving as a selection database for SAS tutors to match students with compatible teaching styles. Leveraging data from SAS tutors and the AMIS teacher base, the site streamlines the process of connecting students with tutors who can best support their musical growth. This initiative not only addresses current gaps in music education but also signifies a long-term commitment beyond graduation, ensuring sustained support for students’ musical development.

First Cut to Film Production

If you ask a person what the most important factor of film-making is, the majority will say the story. I disagree. Film is one of the only mediums that exist as a combination of multiple art skills. Screenwriting, performance, editing, cinematography and more. To present my creativity and engage my audience, I’ve taught myself each of these skills in order to craft a captivating 5-minute short film from scratch. I hope to master every aspect of filmmaking to inspire the cinematic experience.

Together, let’s raise awareness, cultivate understanding, and spark actionable change. Join me in the journey towards equitable healthcare for all.

SOS: The Safety of Scent

Stemming from insecurities at a young age, this project was created with the aim of providing solace and comfort. With this, I crafted a fragrance that is heavily influenced by members of the SAS community. I experimented with different scents, in hopes of taking into consideration the different taste palettes and making a comfortable environment, alleviating stress, anxiety and other overwhelming emotions. The fragrance not only alleviates these feelings, but also raises awareness about the issue. By targeting students, I not only aim to share my journey of the fragrance’s development, but also to advocate for self-improvement and well-being.

Football Across Cultures: A Spanish Adventure for Japanese Children

Have you ever felt the sting of losing a streak on Duolingo? Disappointing, but it’s how I discovered the power of learning Spanish, a crucial skill for young Japanese football enthusiasts facing language barriers in Spanish-speaking countries. Stars like Takefusa Kubo excel not just in football but in embracing the local culture through language. Inspired by this, my project – a Spanish children’s book – seeks to bridge this linguistic gap. Aimed at budding athletes, my book promises to boost communication for better teamwork and foster early language skills, enhancing their prospects on and off the pitch.

Shifting Worlds: Understanding the Implications of Frequent Relocation on Adolescents

Mobility of families is becoming increasingly common with the rise of globalization. Many children and adolescents frequently move homes and are injected into new environments. Throughout my life, I have moved countries many times, and almost all SAS students are able to relate to this experience. Because of this, I wanted to research the effects of moving on adolescents’ development, mental health, behavior, identity, and social integration. I have extensively researched existing studies on this topic and compiled the results into a written literature review article. The purpose of this literature review is to inform others on the insights I have learned through my researching process.

Numbers Never Lie

HIt or Stay. Raise or fold. Buy or Sell. From card games to stock trading, risk management is ubiquitous in our daily lives. However, far too often, people stigmatize risk management, often calling it gambling. Indeed, emotional decisions that rely on luck aren’t recommended, yet strictly calculated decisions are worth studying. This project focuses on calculating expected value, return of investment, and risk per profit ratio using mathematical induction, recursion, and finite math modeling to analyze the validity of various investment/card game strategies. The results were presented to the public through school club meetings, instagram posts, and online conferences.

Harmonizing Filmmaking: Crafting Copyright-Free Music to Elevate Your Scenes

What do you use to enhance the presentation of a scene?

Music.

Though music in films is a necessity for them to be glorified, much of the film industry, especially small indie film creators may struggle against time to get their own music, and/or face copyright issues from using music they find online. Using Musescore for the composition while finding inspiration from other films and video game music, my project aspires to provide a copyright free track. It will do so based on necessary emotions present in most films to help small filmmakers achieve what they want to achieve.

Mathematics at Your Fingertips: Accessible Learning Through Videos

Cramming the night before a math exam?

Typical. But what if all you had to do was watch a series of videos and you will be prepared. The goal of my Catalyst project aims to assist highschool students struggling in their math classes to understand math concepts deeply. I achieve that through posting videos on social media such as Instagram and TikTok, which many students have access to. With clear, concise explanations, and visual examples, these videos break down challenging topics into manageable chunks, helping students build a strong foundation in math and exceed in future paths.

My E-Commerce Journey: A Drop Shipping Project

E-commerce has shaped the modern landscape. Established companies once considered invincible have gone bankrupt because they ignored the strides e-commerce has made—my dropshipping project plans to provide consumers on Amazon US with quality goods from China. Although many say dropshipping is now an immensely competitive space, my project hopes to conquer these challenges. To overcome this obstacle, I plan to optimize my strategies by collecting data from Amazon and making data-driven decisions when advertising my product. From this project, I hope to gain experience in selling my own products and share what I have learned with others.

Dorm Room DimSum: Asian-Inspired Recipes

Growing up in Singapore, access to Asian food was never a concern of mine. “Piece by Piece: Navigating SAS and Singapore Through Jigsaw Puzzles”

Arriving in Singapore, I was struck by the tall buildings, and the many bustling streets that were home to Singapore. Everything seemed unfamiliar having just moved in, and as I started Singapore American School, it felt more foreign, as I consistently was lost, wandering around the gigantic landscape. Now, attending my last year of high school in SAS, I want to help support new students, parents, and teachers coming into SAS, WHO ARE discovering Singapore for the first time. I plan to introduce fascinating places in SAS and Singapore by creating entertaining Jigsaw Puzzles, for all ages.

Starting one’s own personal fitness journey can be daunting, whether it be for competitive lifting or basic dieting and cardio. However, the difficulties are worth overcoming for the mental and physical benefits of taking care of your body. As a competitive powerlifter who struggled to start my own journey, I’d like to make the first steps easier for everyone through my social media account. Teaching Choreography

Throughout my experience of dancing at SAS, I have spent a lot of time learning routines, performing routines, and choreographing small pieces. Because of this, I wanted to challenge myself and create a big group number. My goal was to effectively teach other dancers my choreography and to perform it on stage. I wanted to improve myself as a choreographer by teaching others my choreography instead of only choreographing for myself. I did through a complex process of finding themes, creating motifs, creating movement, and more.

Weightless Clothing: Apparel for Awareness

Weightless is a clothing brand created with the hope of reaching people with a message. Promoting self-help and awareness, the stylish clothing design intends to appeal to a streetwearinterested demographic. Not only is the message for a supportive cause, but the clothing is also intended to be a cheap alternative to the overly expensive designer brands, like big-name companies that sell a blank tee for S$200. Having worked with a supplier, talked with manufacturers, and moved some of my products, my journey in this class has taught me the ups and downs of the clothing world.

Dragons and Deities: A Dive Into Chinese Mythology

Since I was young, I’ve always loved reading mythology, but my reading and researching was always dominated by Greek and Roman stories, or maybe some Egyptian and Norse tales. A lot of other mythologies have been less popular and less accessible. Given my Chinese roots and love for Chinese culture, for my Catalyst project, I decided to write a short collection of Chinese mythology to share with the SAS community. After researching, writing, designing, printing, and sharing this collection, I hope to strengthen students’ general understanding of Chinese culture and spark interest in Chinese mythology.

Sports Psychology in SAS: How to use sports to make a positive impact on your life

Having ventured into the eSports industry as an in-game leader, I’ve had my fair share of experiences in sports. While its physical aspects are important for improving your performance in-game, the psychological aspects can have profound effects even outside of your game. As a leader and player, I wanted to explore the psychological aspects behind sports. More importantly, as an SAS student, I want to use my knowledge to improve SAS athletes’ performance not only in-game but in real life as well by raising awareness of sports psychology.

A Taste of Italy in Singapore: A Guide to Genuine Italian Dining Experiences

How much searching does it take you to find real Italian restaurants here in Singapore? Or how many times have you ended up in restaurants that call themselves ‘Italian’ but aren’t authentic? Personally, that has happened many times, which is why I am undertaking a project to help the community find genuine Italian restaurants in Singapore in a fast and accessible way. As an Italian, I believe that many restaurants in this country are undervalued. For this reason, I have decided to create an eBook featuring various authentic Italian restaurants in Singapore along with reviews of the food they offer. This will allow the audience to experience and enjoy the cuisine with loved ones.

Preventing Setbacks: The Importance of Prehabilitation in Athletic Performance

As an athlete, there’s nothing more frustrating than an injury. All that hard work, all that time spent mastering your sport, just lost in a matter of seconds. It’s a setback that can be physically and mentally challenging, often leaving you sidelined and unable to do what you love most. But what if there was a way to reduce the risk of injury, stay ahead of the game, and keep doing what you love? That’s where prehabilitation comes in. Prehabilitation, or prehab, involves proactive exercises and strategies designed to prevent injuries before they occur. It’s about strengthening your body, improving your flexibility, and addressing any imbalances or weaknesses that could lead to injury. My project aims to tackle the ignorant and reactive mindset of teenage athletes and get prehab incorporated into everyone’s routine.

Presence of Inspiration

SAS is made up of so many cultures which is what makes it stand out. Languages play a large part in this culture so why not create something that includes several languages to reach and connect to a larger audience? Poetry reaches many people as it is relatable and many times teaches someone something new so why not create poetry in several languages? In my case I speak English, Spanish and some Catalan and my family speaks a mix of those languages which is what makes it important to me.

HWA Garden Bench, for Inclusivity, Socialising, and Comfort

As a part of an external extracurricular project, I set out to look for organizations who could use my assistance, whether it was for a service or installation of an addition onto a compound. For the betterment of the community, the aim of my project was to improve the lifestyle or well-being of a certain group or people I was helping. When HWA pitched me an idea of installing a garden bench in their compound at their site, I took them up on their offer, hoping to improve the overall environment of their beautiful garden.

Beyond Belief: Unveiling Singapore’s Mysterious Past

Having lived in Singapore my whole life and being interested in mysteries found in movies, TV shows, and books, I was inspired to create an Instagram account that delves into the history of haunted and mysterious places in Singapore. Through this platform, I aim to shed light on their cultural significance and paranormal tales. My goal is to engage my audience in uncovering the secrets and legends that surround these locations, fostering a deeper appreciation for our rich heritage and the stories that lie beneath the surface.

Journeying Beyond the Ordinary

As a girl born into a family that loves traveling, it was bound for me to fall into that beautiful trap as well. I have always loved traveling and exploring different and unique places. Although we all love Paris, the city of love, or even London, for me, something was fascinating about the hidden gems around the world, that were rather uncommon among people. I wanted to bring more light to these places so that I could share the joys I feel when going on a new adventure. Therefore, I decided to make an Instagram Travel blog for hidden gems that I have visited. They include activities, accommodations, and prices catered for all.

Forming Habits: Read, Repeat, Rewire

As I prepare for college, I realize that with the increased freedom, also come more responsibilities. A large part of staying on top of everything will come down to the habits I form. For my Catalyst project, I researched how habits are formed. To test what I found, I decided on trying to pick up reading as a fun activity. I’ve wanted to do it for a long time, but like many people, I’ve fallen into the trap of doom scrolling on Instagram. I’ve created a few resources that I hope will make sticking to habits a more enjoyable process.

Culinary Crossroads

I’ve always been passionate about cooking and history, which inspired my Catalyst project: a website that explores the history of recipes influenced by international conflicts and trade. This site explains how global events have shaped culinary traditions and creation. By highlighting the impact of international relations on cuisine, the project provides a unique lens that shares the interconnectedness between politics, culture, and trade and how they have shaped the everyday recipes we use.

The Art of Tufting - Bringing People’s Imagination to Reality

My Catalyst project centers on tufting, a form of carpet making. My primary goal was to enhance my artistic abilities by creating digital art for custom designs and acquiring tufting skills. Following a foundational understanding and personal experimentation, I started a tufting business on Instagram. I created personalized tufted pieces tailored to individual preferences, using clientprovided inspiration photos as the blueprint for unique carpet creations.

Transparency in the Sports Industry: Understanding the Mental Struggle of Injuries

As someone deeply passionate about physiotherapy and sports medicine, my journey through a serious injury illuminated a crucial but often overlooked aspect of rehabilitation: the mental struggles. The daunting journey of setbacks, fear of reinjury, and the relentless hours dedicated to physio is not an easy feat. It’s a profound emotional rollercoaster. My personal experience fuels my dedication to addressing these mental hurdles. I strive to utilize social media to share my own story and empower others facing similar challenges and hope to address the unseen sides of the rehabilitation process: the mental hardships.

Music is a form of art that conveys emotion really well. I wanted to create an album that did this to a public audience. Music is something that I’ve been creating ever since I was 13, so I had experience already in the field and wanted to branch out to do something that I hadn’t before. The idea for the project was to collaborate with as many people to create something that a mass audience would enjoy.

Musical production has had an impactful role in my life in terms of well-being and creativity. However, music’s influence has spread much further, as almost every human has felt the warm embrace of chords and notes. As someone with no musical production prowess and minuscule knowledge on the subject, through sheer love for musical content, I set out to harness the power of rap-style beat production to entertain and influence listeners while pushing the boundaries of musical output and storytelling.

By using infographics, practical examples, and descriptions, I aim to make financial literacy accessible and engaging for all. With financial literacy, you learn how to manage your money and take control over your life and future.

Work in Progress: Investigation in Progress

The idea for my Catalyst project is simple– a book. It’s something a lot of people have considered trying. Oftentimes, they quit halfway through. Admittedly, I am one of those people. I’ve probably written two whole books and the start of a dozen others. This time, I’d publish with (at least some) confidence and let it loose in the world. I decided on a murder mystery, something that ideally would make the reader question whether or not what they were reading could plausibly happen in real life, something that would’ve piqued my interest as a reader, and kept me captivated for the duration.

Excel-ing in College Finance

Budgeting teaches us to be more in touch with ourselves and confront our spending habits. By fostering financial awareness, we gain control and reduce stress. Thus, my project aims to help myself and others with budgeting and tracking finances. I chose this topic because I wanted to learn about financial responsibility and create a viable tool to keep me organized in college. Using Microsoft Excel, I designed a monthly spending template. Additionally, I posted the tips and life skills I learned on social media. Although it’s tedious, budgeting encourages us to slow down and establish a foundation for financial well-being.

I’ve developed a business pitch for a sports business project that aims to empower athletes of all ages through tennis and cricket. The project involves creating an academy that offers specialized coaching, top-tier facilities, and exclusive training programs tailored specifically for students’ needs. By creating a supportive and inclusive environment, this sports business aims to empower young athletes, especially female athletes, to develop their skills, build confidence, and pursue their passion for sports. With a focus on fostering the greater participation of young girls in sports, this academy would include personalized training, league competitions, nutrition programs, mentorship coaching, and more.

Athletic Pursuits: A Podcast on High School Sports

I’ve been interested in doing something regarding sports, the gym, and working out. I always enjoyed being active, playing sports, and working out always helped me take my mind off things. At first, I struggled a lot with trying to come up with an idea. I’ve had a couple of ideas, such as creating personalized workout plans for new athletes, but I scrapped that idea because it wasn’t really daunting, and there was no learning new skills involved. However, through lots of brainstorming and talking with people, I’ve decided to create a podcast. My podcast will consist of four or five episodes, all relating to sports or working out at SAS. I started my first episode by talking about gym life at school. I plan to transition each episode from the previous to the next one to establish a flow.

Scented Journeys: Reviving the Connection Between People and Places Through the Scent of a Candle

As a military brat, I’ve traveled globally, greatly appreciating different cultures. Moving frequently because of my dad’s job, I often miss things about the places I’ve left…like their smell. For instance, I’ve lived in Japan for most of my life and after moving away I longed for the scent of freshly bloomed cherry blossoms. As I thought about the smell of sakura, which I greatly missed… it hit me!

What if I made candles you can light in your home that embody different places around the world visually and produce fragrant memories? That is my project!!

The Album

I created an album with my friend, with me working on the vocals and lyrics. The album was mostly R&B with a mix of rap in it. Most of the process was done step by step with my friend creating the beat and us working together to find ways to find a flow. Once we found a flow we worked on lyrics which would match this. With this process we were able to create music for my project.

Three Months Three Diets: A Deep Dive into Popular Online Diets

Food is an essential part of life. However, in this generation, it has somehow evolved into an addictive indulgence rather than a basic need. Countless media articles and documentaries emphasize the dangers of unhealthy eating, while simultaneously, social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram overwhelm us with diet advice. Yet, there are so many different diets that people often get confused about what is actually impactful on your health and what is not. In this 3-month-long experiment, I went on a different diet for each month to see what changes it might have on my overall health.

Sharing Taiwanese Food Stories

Food is a language that tells stories of our ancestors, a bridge that connects cultures, and a powerful link to our heritage. Charmed Minds: Crafting Hope for Mental Health

Growing up, I have always carried a “good luck” charm, a small token of comfort, to help with my stress and deal with difficult situations. Now, more than ever mental health weighs heavily on the shoulders of teenagers in my generation.

I’ve decided to make unique, personalized good-luck charms to remind those who deal with mental health issues that they’re not alone. Using social media and through the help of the student life center, I am promoting charms that students can carry around with them everywhere to help them feel some sort of “safety” and forge a path toward a brighter tomorrow.

Heritage on the Table: Creating Culinary Narratives

Explore the art of storytelling through my project, where I share my experience of creating an engaging cookbook that simultaneously recounts the story of my family’s heritage. I always assumed that digitally producing a cookbook was one of the simplest things to do. After all, I’ve read hundreds. How difficult could it be to prepare something and devise a recipe? I had no idea how time-consuming this process would be. Throughout this project, I learned a variety of new digital and soft skills that will be useful in future initiatives. With the help of mentors and family, I discover the power of food and its capacity to connect with audiences.

Singapore’s Savory Secrets: A Cinematic Culinary Journey

Despite a 15-year sojourn in Singapore, I discovered a surprising gap in my understanding of its rich culinary heritage beyond the ubiquitous chicken rice. This sparked my venture into a creative exploration, merging my filmmaking fervor with a quest for cultural wisdom. My project presents a cinematic odyssey through Singapore’s top three quintessential dishes. It delves into the intricate artistry of their preparation, passed down through generations, and narrates the history embedded within the heart of Singapore’s gastronomic locales. This journey is not only an homage to traditional flavors but also a personal voyage into the realm of video editing, a skill I have long aspired to master.

Writing Something of Meaning: The Author’s Journey

As such, my goal for this project is to learn how I could craft a compelling, novella-length story that manages to be emotionally engaging, significant, and impactful for its readers. I want to take the reader on a mind-bending journey through a broken man’s psyche in an allegorical story for the haunting impacts of trauma.

The Story of Storytelling through Character Design

Maximizing Impact: A Strategic Approach to Multi-Channel Marketing and Brand Enhancement

In a world where AI is starting to overshadow human work, I want to celebrate the use of creativity and the process of learning artistic skills that using AI lacks, as an artist myself. This is a prolonged study into the design aspect of visual art through character drawings. I will further my ability to generate a character design using drawing exercises, and then I will be able to open commissions with a better skill set for helping others bring their stories to life through human creativity instead of mechanical generation.

I’m dedicated to enhancing marketability in my future professional career, aiming to deliver exceptional value and achieve maximum reach across various platforms. Specializing in multichannel strategies, I focus on elevating brand presence and engaging diverse audiences effectively. My goal is to create compelling, innovative content that resonates deeply with target markets, paving the way for growth and recognition in my field. Let’s collaborate to turn market challenges into dynamic opportunities for professional success.

Our world is descending into industries of machinery and mass-produced goods. However, the art of leather-making in the market stands as a testament of individuality amidst this trend. Alongside crafting pieces, I’ll also share my creative process on my website to help my consumer base gain a deeper appreciation for the dedication behind each item.
