How to take a picture? Compose - creative or artistic bit to produce a pleasing composition.

SHUTTER SPEED - the amount of time that the shutter is open

Slow (1/20s) = Motion Blur = Brighter Ambient

Fast (1/125s) = Motion Freeze = Darker Ambient

APERTURE - the size of the opening in the lens when a picture is taken

Smaller (f22) = Less light = Deep Focus Wider (f3.5) = More light = Shallow Focus

DOF â&#x20AC;&#x201C; Depth of Field

ISO SENSITIVITY - the measure of a digital camera sensorâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s sensitivity to light

Lower (ISO100) = Less sensitive = Sharp Higher (ISO800) = More sensitive = Grainy

NO SHAKE 1/f = 1/focal length Focal Length = the distance between the center of the lens and the sharp image of an object at infinity projected by it.

When you press the shutter release button: 1.The mirror will flip up out of the way.( SLR) That is the clunk you hear. 1.The aperture will 'stop down' to the selected value.

1.The shutter will open then close. 1.The mirror will come back down. 1.The image is sensed, registered and processed.

Quick Tips (Point and Shoot Cameras): 1. Use the Focus Lock Function (half press to focus) 2. Hold your camera steady or use tripod 3. When in doubt, use fill flash or reflectors 4. Use the Rule of Thirds 5. Keep an eye-level (catch that light!) 6. Give breathing space 7. Keep background simple (KISS) 8. Shoot interesting skies not bald ones 9.
