As you may know… I love getting to know my brides but choosing just one for the cover is crazy hard (maybe a cover collage next year?!) - I hope you agree that Jordan’s wedding at the Canfield Casino (submitted by Make Me Fab) was a good choice! Every photo was charming… between the soft pastel dresses, the lush florals, her Lily Saratoga gown, and her reception details (I’ve never seen the Casino look better!) – I hope you love this Spring / Summer cover as much as I do. I’m thrilled to announce that in addition to bringing back two issues yearly of Saratoga Bride Magazine, we’re revamping SaratogaBride.com… Meaning more content, more videos and more Real Brides (Stay tuned - I’ve got so much planned!) Follow us on Instagram for magazine pick up spots and area wedding shows! Saratoga BRIDE Magazine is not out to replace Martha Stewart Weddings (I could only dream!) in your collection of bridal planning magazines, we just want to show you all the wonderful talent available right here… in the Saratoga / Adirondack / Capital Region area!

LOOKING TO

improve your health BEFORE YOUR BIG DAY? Meet Danielle,

The Upstate Wedding Dietitian.

Are you sick of seeing weight targeted ads with diets, exercise programs, and products making promises that they likely cannot keep? So is Danielle Munn RDN, CDN, the owner of the Upstate Wedding Dietitian. She started her virtual practice in 2021 after being a bride herself. She felt the pressures first hand that so many others face to lose weight and look a certain way. Danielle is a Registered and Certified Dietitian with a master’s degree in community nutrition. Her programs focus on improving people’s relationship with food, body positivity, improving confidence, and teaching nutrition in a simple way that can be applied to everyday life. Some tips for future brides include planning ahead and stocking up on grab and go items. The week of your wedding is possibly one of the busiest weeks of your life. You don’t want to be running around trying to get last minute things done on an empty tank. Quick grab and go items save you time, energy, and money versus purchasing takeout. Some examples include granola bars, yogurt, cheese sticks, and fresh fruits and veggies. However, Danielle’s most important recommendation is to avoid crash dieting or starving yourself before the big day. A “hangry bride” has never been and never will be trendy. Find The Upstate Wedding Dietitian on Facebook, Instagram, and by visiting www.UpstateDietitian.com. To contact, call 518-414-0092 or email theupstatedietitian@gmail.com. 12 | SARATOGA BRIDE | SPRING/SUMMER 2022

loves this!

@LITTLEROWBOAT.CO

When I asked Katie French about the CHARMING little row boat I’m drooling over on Instagram, she went on to tell me… This past September my husband and I had a microwedding at my family lake house on Lake George. I looked everywhere to rent a white row boat to make my lakeside elopement “picture perfect.” I couldn’t find one, so my talented partner and friend, Codi Combs, “Cinderella storied” an old beat-up Craigslist row boat to the beauty she is today. Urban Poppy also helped my design vision come to life. Now we have multiple row boats and will travel to help others find their very own Notebook vibe! See Katie’s wedding (and more of this charming boat!) on page 102

MODERN ELEGANCE

WHERE EXPERIENCE IS ALWAYS IN STYLE

Styled by Lily Saratoga is a modern twist on the elegance of the original Lily Saratoga, located in a historic Victorian building in Franklin Square. The posh and glamourous new space features Lily’s signature light blue colors highlighted by glistening gold, champagne, light pink, silver, and a neutral décor.

While readying the new Styled by Lily Saratoga, renovations to the original Lily Saratoga have also been taking place.

“I’ve loved decorating it while keeping with the current theme – it’s been lots of fun and of course, lots of work, too!” said Laura. Styled by Lily Saratoga is equipped with two connected modular bridesmaids’ suites that can be divided for a more intimate experience or opened up and rented as a whole to accommodate an entire wedding party (of up to 10 people). Featuring price-friendly accessories and the largest selection of bridal party dresses in the region, Styled by Lily Saratoga carries dresses by five bridesmaids’ designers in sizes 4 to 28. In addition, they also carry gowns that are specifically designed for the mother of the bride/groom featuring more details and structure in sample sizes from 8 to 20.

saratogaTODAYnewspaper.com

“I definitely love a good project and am really thankful that I didn’t have the pressure to open as quickly as someone who was relying on a single store. The staff has been so helpful and have taken on additional responsibilities while I’ve had to focus on the new space,” said Laura. Now that the bridal party dresses have been moved to Styled by Lily Saratoga, the entire Lily Saratoga building is dedicated solely to the bride. There is also room now for sample sale bridal gowns to be put out on display and sample sale appointments can be conducted in this area. There are 420 Lily Brides already on the books for 2022, but each of them can be confident in the knowledge that they will receive the time, attention, and space for an exceptional experience. In February there was a soft opening of Styled by Lily Saratoga, 25 Lawrence St., Saratoga. Follow them on Facebook and Instagram for news about their Spring Open House. LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION The Queensbury is highly regarded as the centerpiece of Glens Falls and you will be hard pressed to find a venue with a better location. Nestled between Saratoga Springs and The Adirondacks, the rejuvenated city of Glens Falls is the ideal destination to welcome your family and friends for a long weekend of celebrating love and exploring all that the region has to offer. RENOVATIONS & RESTORATIONS The Queensbury may be a century old, but they certainly understand the importance of honoring the past and incorporating modern touches for the future. Since 2016, The Queensbury has undergone a multi-milliondollar renovation and restoration project that has included the updating of event spaces, guest rooms, restaurants, the lobby, front desk and more. During recent renovations, they uncovered the original 1926 terrazzo floors in their lobby and Gold Room. The Queensbury quickly took on the challenge of bringing them back to life with a professional restoration team. The Gold Room now glistens and the lobby shines thanks to these historic features. NEW ADIRONDACK BALLROOM: COMING SUMMER 2022 The long-awaited Adirondack Ballroom expansion is next on the list of these exciting updates to the historic property. The 5,200-square-foot expansion project will include a complete renovation and enlargement of their Adirondack Room, plus the addition of a patio space and even a brand-new state-ofthe-art kitchen for their culinary team. The Adirondack Ballroom will accommodate weddings and events for up to 350 guests and they have teamed up with Saratoga Springs-based architectural company, Phinney Design Group, to bring their vision to life. The space will feature modern shades of gray to complement sleek chandeliers and light fixtures that give the space both a contemporary yet classic feel. They have worked diligently to ensure the finishes and aesthetics match the original look saratogaTODAYnewspaper.com

and feel of the historic 1926 building. We cannot wait to see the completed space this summer, and lucky for you, they are already accepting bookings! WHERE ELEGANCE MEETS CONVENIENCE Wedding planning can be hard, but the team at The Queensbury is there to help make it easy and hassle-free with an all-under-one-roof approach. Their experienced wedding coordinators are there every step of the way in the planning process and their talented culinary team offers full-service packages that are sure to impress your guests. Your out-of-town guests will enjoy the 123 newly renovated and carefully appointed guest rooms and suites and can take advantage of the on-property amenities like restaurants, indoor pool, Jacuzzi, fitness center, and more. Kick off the weekend with welcome drinks and a rehearsal dinner then spend the morning getting ready for your big day in one of their spacious bridal suites (don’t forget the mimosas!). Choose to have your ceremony in the grand lobby by the granite fireplace or at one of the nearby outdoor locations like the gazebo in City Park, located right across the street. You have the option of two beautiful ballrooms for your cocktail hour and reception, both of which will make for a magical night of celebration, dinner, and dancing. And while all good things must come to an end, be sure to plan a brunch the next morning before it is time to say goodbye to your family and friends. Do yourself a favor and reach out to their team, schedule a tour, and consider the historic and one-of-a-kind Queensbury Hotel for your wedding or next special event. Contact sales@ thequeensburyhotel.com or call 518-792-1121. The Queensbury Hotel is located at 88 Ridge Street, Glens Falls. Forever in Bloom A BUSINESS BLOSSOMS Through the years (and the changes) The Posie Peddler always stayed in the Schrade family but in November 2020, Tim Healy (who had already been working as the shop’s floral designer for nearly a decade) became The Posie Peddler’s new owner. “It really wasn’t much of a change at all,” he said. Healy was a natural fit for the ownership position that Jim and Gretchen Squires (it was Gretchen’s great-grandfather who first started the shop) vacated once they retired. Since taking over the already flourishing business, Healy hasn’t changed much about how it operates and he doesn’t plan to. “I definitely would like to honor the Schrade name and keep doing what we’re doing,” he said. NURTURING LIFE’S SPECIAL MOMENTS As the access to information has grown, Healy has witnessed the role of the florist evolve along with it. “When I first started, clients definitely leaned more on the designer, and now, so much of it is do-it-yourself, but I’m still willing to help in any way I can.” This means offering an experience. The Posie Peddler has arbors, columns, pedestals, and urns on display. They fill their brick-and-mortar store with gorgeous, long-lasting flowers from an abundance of local suppliers, including Lot 32 Flower Farm in Greenwich, and the Hand Melon Farm in Easton, among others. OFTEN, INSPIRATION WILL STRIKE. “Not everything in the shop is bridal, so when you come in, you can get ideas from the most unlikely things and then that approach can be used for your wedding,” said Healy. Plus, The Posie Peddler smells divine! “When people step through the door, they often just stand there, take a deep breath in, and say, ahhhh!” CULTIVATING A COMMUNITY WRITTEN BY MEGIN POTTER PHOTO BY SKIP DICKSTEIN PHOTOGRAPHY

F

loral design is constantly in a state of growth and has come a long way from its early periods.

In 1910, when The Posie Peddler first sprouted up in Saratoga (it was called Schrade’s Flowers back then) flower arrangements were inspired by the remnants of the Victorian period and the curves of the Art Nouveau style. As America changed, The Posie Peddler, and the arrangements emerging from within it, did too.

24 | SARATOGA BRIDE | SPRING/SUMMER 2022

If you really want to immerse yourself in the Saratoga scene, go where the locals go. The Posie Peddler rarely advertises, because the brides and their families generate so many referrals. Those who have used the florist in the past feel supported, encouraged and listened to, which makes wedding planning that much easier, so they want to tell everyone about it. “I have just been overwhelmed by customers; they’ve been so understanding, are so appreciative, and are wonderful about saying how much they just love their flowers,” said Healy. To find fantastic flowers, stop into The Posie Peddler, 92 West Ave., Saratoga Springs, or visit them online at posiepeddler.com saratogaTODAYnewspaper.com

RELAXED ATMOSPHERE A valley of rolling green hills is the expansive background of the Blind Buck Valley Farmstead. This is a working farm that feels like home because it was one. “It’s just been magical to be a kid from Manhattan yet have a real country upbringing. I mean, Central Park is great, but it’s not the same as being able to run freely, get dirty, and enjoy nature in Washington County,” said Sarah Parker. In 2016, the Parker family home was turned into a year-round farm-stay experience and venue to give others the opportunity to reconnect, unplug, and have some fun in the outdoors.

2

SPACE FOR EVERYONE The on-site accommodations are the centerpiece of the Blind Buck Valley Farmstead, which include a 5-bedroom, 2-bath farmhouse built in 1795. There is also a “glampground” with four luxurious canvas tents nestled in a grove of pine trees, with an outdoor kitchen, and recreation area. There are amenities and activities galore on the property, including an in-ground heated saltwater pool, deck with spa tub, stone patio with a BBQ grill, fire-pit, and loads of games for both indoors and out! Or get out into nature with a rugged hike along the babbling creek to the top of the hill for a view of the Green Mountains. “We try to think of everything a family or group of friends would want and need during their stay,” said Sarah.

DIY WONDERLAND The farm’s 200-year-old post and beam barn is a rustic event space that features two 10’ x 25’ mezzanine areas, a built-in bar and prep kitchen. It’s the ideal size for a microwedding of up to 50 people. For larger parties, the barn is reserved for cocktails and dancing, and a white tent is set-up to accommodate up to 125 people for a seated dinner. Thanks to Sarah’s love of design, her sister Cindy D’Andrea’s keen eye, and their connection to skilled local carpenters, they are constantly building, making, and sourcing décor elements, including vintage furniture, wine barrels, a birch tree arbor, and more - this venue speaks directly to the DIY bride looking for a cost-effective all-in-one experience.

4

INSTAGRAM-WORTHY ANIMAL INTERACTIONS The lush landscape is already a gorgeous setting for all those wedding pictures, now add-in a wagon ride to meet and pet the animals – including goats, chickens, pigs, donkeys, horses, and a patient pony named Tiki – and you’ve got Instagram gold! “A lot of people that come here aren’t often around animals but even for people who are, they say how well-loved, well cared-for, happy and very friendly ours are,” said Sarah. Get in on the action by taking part in a feeding or popping into the coop to collect eggs - once you crack open the eggshell to reveal that bright orange yolk you’ll understand first-hand the unparalleled value of farm-fresh food.

saratogaTODAYnewspaper.com

5

JUST OFF THE BEATEN PATH A true destination, Blind Buck Valley Farmstead invites you to experience the region like a local with just a short drive into the countryside. “Washington County is an incredibly special place. People find they don’t have to drive that far to feel like they’ve gotten away,” said Sarah. By partnering with local makers and bakers, catered farm meals are available on-site. Sarah is also an owner in the recently opened Jacko’s Corner restaurant in the quaint town of Salem, which specializes in great local cheeseboards, desserts, and a curated selection of wines and craft beers.

6

HELP FROM A DYNAMIC DUO Sarah and Cindy are the powerhouse ensuring that your farm stay and event go smoothly. From arranging farm tours, to coordinating with vendors, to managing those lastminute disasters, this team will calm all your day-of jitters. “We aim to be the centered problem-solver for our couples, helping to ease their worries, and figure out any issue. It’s such an honor and so rewarding to be able to offer that to people. We just want to make their day unforgettable,” said Sarah. Weddings at Blind Buck Valley Farmstead only take place during the months of May, June, September and October (a maximum of eight per year). It’s best to book 18 months to two years in advance. The Science

of Sparkle

WRITTEN BY MEGIN POTTER | PHOTOS PROVIDED

Diamonds take millions of years to form in the earth, but their fiery brilliance can quickly be tarnished by the environmental and humanitarian costs of extracting them (not to mention the fact that buying one can feel like it’s going to take eons to pay off).

Get More & Spend Less Scientists have perfected the process of growing diamonds and it’s going to save you a fortune!

Until recently, cubic zirconia or moissanite were the only alternatives. These glittery, yet extremely cheap imposters will fade, scratch, and change color with age. Lab-grown diamonds are something entirely different. Grown from a diamond particle under controlled conditions, a lab-grown diamond has the same physical composition as a naturally-formed stone. “It is identical appearance-wise. It is a diamond, with the same brilliance and scintillation,” said Brianna Chiarello, a certified gemologist and founder of Her Rock, the only jewelry concierge in the area specializing in lab-grown stones. MAXIMIZE YOUR BUDGET WITHOUT SACRIFICING STYLE The conversation about buying a diamond often goes the same way, Chiarello found. Her experience extends into every facet of the jewelry world; from the Pandora jewelry store she started at just after high school, to working for a small custom jeweler, to the very highend London Jewelers in Manhasset. She even co-founded an earlier company that offers natural stones. “Clients typically have a very good idea of what they’d like for an engagement ring. They come in knowing that they love a certain setting and want a specific size stone, but that’s when we have a different conversation – one about cost,” said Chiarello. This is when their dreams were dashed. As a response, Chiarello launched Her Rock last year as a resource for labgrown diamonds, which cost up to 60% less than mined stones. She said her clients are amazed and say, “Wow!’ I wish I’d been shown this before!” HITTING THE FOUR S’S Her Rock is a shopping experience tailored to your specifications. After contacting Her Rock through social media, email, or by phone, Chiarello discusses with clients the four S’s of diamond shopping: size, shape, style, and how much you’d like to spend. Next is a one-on-one consultation (held virtually, in her downtown Saratoga, or Manhattan spaces) where clients choose from a carefully curated selection of stones to be paired with an impeccably hand-crafted or heirloom setting. In just two months, they have the precise clarity, carat, cut, and color diamond ring they envisioned, from an American supplier (that uses carbon credits to offset emissions) at a price that thrills them. Hello Neighbor When two neighbors partner up, you win. WRITTEN BY MEGIN POTTER | PHOTOS PROVIDED

The Saratoga-Wilton Elks Lodge is a comfortable place where neighbors gather together. Now, the home-cooked goodness of food prepared by Maura Pulver and her team is being added to the menu. Gary Stevens, the Saratoga-Wilton Elks Lodge’s long-time caterer and owner of Waterford Banquets and Catering, will be transitioning into retirement and Maura Pulver will take over as his replacement. “It’s a natural progression from where I was already going,” said Maura. “Every skill set I have has been leading me towards here. This is right where I need to be.” 32 | SARATOGA BRIDE | SPRING/SUMMER 2022

WORKING TOGETHER TOWARD A COMMON GOAL These neighbors are looking forward to the new partnership. Maura Pulver is the previous owner of the popular Five Points Market and Deli. With the dream of being able to simply focus on preparing great food, she opened Simply Food by Maura last year. In addition to the foods offered in-house at the restaurant, she’s also catered all sorts of special events. “Maura comes to us with a great following and serving her food at an affordable price point is going to make this a very popular destination spot for people in Saratoga Springs.

We’re excited. It’s filling a void that needed filling,” said Stephen Dorsey, the Elks’ Exalted Ruler who has also been a member there for 17 years. SETTING THE PACE The entire wedding, including the ceremony, can easily be held at this single location. Tucked back from the road, and conveniently located just minutes from downtown Saratoga, hosting an event at the Saratoga-Wilton Elks Lodge is an affordable choice that has something for everyone. “This gives you the opportunity to have a fantastic wedding in a really nice location,” said Dorsey. Large windows stream light into the freshly painted and newly recarpeted banquet hall. It seats up to 230 guests, has a dance floor and a bar. The Elks staff will ensure you have everything you need for your event including chairs, tables, linens, and dinnerware. Outside is a beautiful ceremony space where guests can take in the views of Loughberry Lake from the gazebo. During the reception, they can play a game of horseshoes, bocce ball, and cornhole. A new bridal suite is also being built. A TIME OF PLENTY The elk is an animal that symbolizes a time of plenty, which is exactly what you’ll be experiencing when you book an event at the Saratoga-Wilton Elks Lodge. It’s an unsurpassed value and that extends to the people-pleasing menu of food choices.

“People will be pleasantly surprised. It’s really important to me that every event has something special,” said Pulver. A customizable variety of menu options will be available to choose from in both plated and buffet styles. Dietary restrictions can also be accommodated. Pulver prides herself on being ahead of the trends and putting a premium on creating pleasing presentations. STANDING TALL If you’re looking for something a bit different for your one-ofa-kind day, Pulver is open to suggestions and she’s ready to make your vision into a reality, whether that means you want charcuterie boards, a second round of food, or a dessert bar instead of the traditional large wedding cake. “There are so many things that can happen here, and I’ll take it all on,” she said. She is also flexible, friendly, and welcomes working with the budget-conscious DIY bride. She has an entire building full of great finds, from lights to décor, to give your event that extraspecial finishing touch. “I’m really resourceful, so I’ll make it happen no matter what I have to do,” said Pulver, with a smile. “You’re not on your own. We’re all clearly on the same team and want to make your wedding day a success.” Nice people and great food in a comfortable location are all the ingredients needed for you to have a simply great celebration. HOW TO PUT

WRITTEN BY MEGIN POTTER

Your Love into Words

Most people will list public speaking as being among their biggest fears, so the thought of expressing their deepest feelings in front of a room full of family and friends on their wedding day feels down right terrifying. Yet, more couples are doing just that with the help of people like Maria Pelton. Maria is a certified non-denominational minister and the Director of Ceremony Services at Carissa Ceremonies, which was started by her sister, Jessica Rowell, fifteen years ago. “We come from a long line of entrepreneurs, and we love talking to people, being with people, and are natural presenters,” said Maria. She is now Carissa Ceremonies lead officiant (Jessica has gone on to pursue other interests) and has made it her business to ensure your wedding is tailored to your unique vision. “I write all the ceremonies from scratch. They’re never cookie cutter.”

34 | SARATOGA BRIDE | SPRING/SUMMER 2022

LISTEN, CONNECT, CREATE Crafting the right words to say during the ceremony always begins with actively listening first. During your initial one-hour consultation, Maria will learn how you and your fiancé met, your engagement, and the role the family has played in your relationship. She’ll go over the traditional aspects of the ceremony, including the processional, the welcoming of family and friends, discussing special moments, the exchanging of vows, and if you’d like to add a special ritual. These rituals can be a reading that embodies the relationship, or a symbolic gesture of the couple’s unity, such as the fasting of hands with a rope, scarf, or ribbon, or a sand ceremony where two containers of colored sand are poured together to represent the blending of the couple’s lives together.

saratogaTODAYnewspaper.com

WRITING THE WEDDING LETTER In recent years, it’s also become common for couples to write letters to one another. These are exchanged the morning of the wedding before the chaos of the day commences. “This is an opportunity for the bride and groom to reflect on the time from the moment they met up to that day and to think about what they’ve experienced together,” said Maria. “When we start to talk about these letters during the consultation,” she continued, “people often get nervous and cringy because they’re not sure they’re going to come across the way they want to.” HOW TO SAY, “I LOVE YOU” Here are wordsmith Maria Pelton’s top tips on how to write a heart-thumping wedding day letter. • Share memories of your relationship up to that point.

• Describe how you express your affection for each other on a daily basis. • Speak from the heart. • Add humor.

• Scribble down ideas whenever they come to you so you don’t forget them – you can always expand on them later. • Avoid the crunch. By starting a few weeks before your wedding day, you’ll have enough time to revise your drafts without feeling rushed.

• Keep it short and sweet – stick to what will fit on a single page. WRITING YOUR OWN VOWS Writing your own vows is approached differently than the wedding day love letter. The vows are much shorter, are spoken in front of everyone in attendance, and encompasses what will come. “The letter is you speaking to your partner about what you have shared… The vows are focusing on that specific moment in time and into the future. They describe what you are committing to when you’re starting out together on that day, and in the days and months to come,” said Maria. For couples who want to write their own vows, Maria recommends the following: • Look at samples. She has selected more than 50 to use as inspiration.

“When they see what others say and how they say things, couples will have that ‘AHA moment’ where they realize, ‘Hey, this is going to be easier than I thought!’” said Maria.

• Steer clear of anything overly intimate. No matter how close you might be with your audience, make sure everything you say is something they’re going to feel comfortable being privy to. • Stay away from hot-button topics. If it would be off-putting dinner table conversation, leave it out of the vows. • Be supportive and encouraging of your spouse in your statements.

• Express your hopes for your relationship as you move forward together. As part of her services, Maria will review (and if necessary, help you edit) your wedding letter and vows before the big day to ensure your words will be received in the loving spirit that you intended. Signature Wedding Cocktails A trend growing in popularity is the signature wedding cocktail and it is easy to see why! By having their own special drink, a wedding couple can add an element of fun as well as personalize their celebration even more.

Crafting your own special drink does not have to be difficult at all, trust me…it can be a lot of fun! Here are some tips to help you get started. Start with a recipe for the type of cocktail you both enjoy. Do you like a martini style drink, or favor a taller libation such as gin and tonic? Maybe a wine-based cocktail is more to your liking. Keep in mind you will likely need many of these drinks, so look for a recipe that can be easily made in batches. Now comes the fun part – customizing the recipe with flavors you prefer. This is easy and so much fun! Just change one or more of the recipe components to produce a flavor profile you like. As you do this, consider flavors appropriate for the season during which your wedding will occur. For example, an apple flavored cocktail will work well for a fall or winter wedding, but a citrus based drink is more suited for a spring or summer event. Next, name your drink. Think wedding and romance, as well as activities you enjoy together. You can draw inspiration from the drink ingredients, or your wedding venue. Ask your friends and family for ideas as well. I know from experience crafting a signature cocktail can be as much fun for others as it is for the wedding couple. I had a great time creating the Cranberry Cape Kiss for my friends Tony and Michael, inspired by their favorite Kir Royale cocktail and Cape Cod wedding location. I hope these tips inspire you to create your own signature wedding cocktail. Here are two recipes to get your creative juices flowing.

Best wishes and Congratulations! 36 | SARATOGA BRIDE | SPRING/SUMMER 2022

The “Cranberry Cape Kiss” This drink is soooo good-looking it does not need to be garnished! FOR EACH DRINK: • 1-ounce cranberry liqueur I used Heimat Hand Crafted Cranberry Liqueur • ½ ounce fresh lime juice • Chilled prosecco I prefer Tussock Jumper Prosecco for this cocktail Mix the first 3 ingredients in batches for the number of drinks you need, and chill. Pour 1.5 ounces into a champagne flute and fill with prosecco.

The “Caramel Appley Ever After” FOR EACH DRINK: • 1.5 ounces of Salted Caramel Vodka, I use Stolichnaya brand • 1 ounce of apple liqueur, I find Schnauer brand works best • 0.5 ounces fresh lemon juice • Thin apple slices sprinkled with additional lemon juice for garnishing Mix the ingredients in batches for the number of drinks you need and chill. To serve, pour each drink into a 3-ounce coupe glass and garnish with a thin apple slice.

4 Ways to Maximize Your Floral Budget

WRITTEN BY MEGIN POTTER PHOTOS BY NIKI ROSSI PHOTOGRAPHY

Live plants and flowers add a special kind of magic to your wedding day but even a simple bouquet can cause major sticker shock. Sarah Osborne, owner of Everwood Flowers, has eight years of floral design experience and is well-versed in how to help you stretch your budget while still sticking to your unique vision.

saratogaTODAYnewspaper.com

#3 Inspiration is Everywhere Social media is a fantastic resource and one that Sarah is very open to using. “I take such inspiration from sites like Instagram. If I see something that blows my mind, I let it respectively inspire my work. I have an open mind culturally to all kinds of designs,” she said. Staying flexible is key to creating these looks on a budget – love lily of the valley but it’s out of season? Forego the extravagant price tag and opt for a few faux stems instead. Sarah will blend them into the arrangements, so they look as realistic as possible.

#4 Repurpose Everything Sarah’s number one tip for maximizing your floral budget is: don’t let anything go to waste.

#1 Go Native The lush garden style of Sarah’s gorgeous designs are made doublyunique by the fact that she grows most of the flowers herself in her 1,200 square foot garden or sources locally from other growers, including Marlee Rose Imbarrato (@fleurflowerfarm).

Bouquets can be creatively repurposed into reception table centerpieces, be separated into smaller arrangements and placed on either end of the bar and can also be used as wedding favors. For a modest rental fee, she’ll supply you with a plethora of vase options, including centerpiece pedestals and tall clear glass containers for floating flower displays. Break away from the traditional wooden arbor and have your ceremony by a lovely 8’ x 9’ decorative hoop. The flowers from it can then be repurposed for the reception afterwards. For more information, find Everwood Flowers on Facebook, Instagram, and at www.everwoodflowers.com

Local blooms are a better value than flown-in or shipped hot-house flowers because they are in-season, sustainable, and all those transportation costs have been eliminated. Sarah begins her flowers from seed and cares for each by hand as it grows. “There is such sentimental value when it comes to my flowers, especially when it comes to the ones that start in my basement here. It’s a hobby that turned into a passion and then a career,” she said.

#2 Big is Beautiful For the spring, Sarah grows a lot of pastel-colored flowers in pinks, whites, and champagne hues. There are also rich sage greens, mauves, and deeper red tones for bold pops of color. Her premium arrangements are characterized by her use of larger blooms, such as Dahlias, queen Zinnias, perfect peonies, and cascades of Amaranthus. “I love focal flowers, they’re always show-stopping and make an impression,” she said. saratogaTODAYnewspaper.com

The Elegance of Passion & Precision A solo violinist exudes sophistication, romance, and excitement. WRITTEN BY MEGIN POTTER | PHOTO BY MICHAEL GALLITELLI OF METROLAND PHOTO

INSTANT ATMOSPHERE “When guests arrive for prelude and are greeted with the beautiful sound of the violin, they are immediately transported to a different place,” said violinist Tania Susi. “In a split second, they are feeling a different way than when they arrived. There’s a magic that happens when you see and hear the music of a violin performance right in front of you.” Tania’s been playing the violin since she was four years old. She earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the renowned Julliard School of Music and has travelled the world performing on the violin and viola in a variety of musical ensembles. In addition, she has been an adjunct professor at The College of St. Rose and for 13 years, she was in a very successful duo, but decided to go solo in 2020. "The timing felt right to create a new chapter and I'm feeling rejuvenated and inspired about having a variety of services to offer my clients," she said. Currently, Tania is a member of a Dave Matthews tribute band called The Proudest Monkeys. Her YouTube channel @TaniaSusiMusic showcases her solo and ensemble work. In addition, she recently won Wedding Wire's 2022 Couples’ Choice award. A LUSH MUSICAL GARDEN The violin is so versatile, its music is just as suitable for a portion, as for the entire event. For instance, Tania will often begin with classical and smooth contemporary music during the prelude and ceremony, playing songs such as " What a Wonderful World" and "A Million Dreams". Then during cocktail hour, she will feature music by artists such as The Beatles, Lana Del Rey and Lindsey Stirling. After an outfit change, she’ll then join the DJ for a rock show reception. To achieve upbeat, jazzy sounds, she’ll switch from an acoustic to one of her six electric violins (one of which lights up into a rainbow of colors). “It’s really new and I don’t know of anyone else that does it in this area,” she said. Tania can also assemble a duo, trio, or ensemble for your event. " I have the resources to be able to hire highly skilled professional musicians to create an ensemble. These are musicians that I work with on a regular basis,” said Tania. IN PERFECT HARMONY “I’m very comfortable connecting to the audience and enjoy seeing people respond to my playing,” said Tania. She’s even able to go places most other musicians can’t. This fall, Tania loaded up her violin and a battery-powered Bose speaker and hiked to the summit of a mountain in Bolton Landing for a surprise performance at an elopement ceremony. The couple were married at the pinnacle, while the sun was setting, the monumental sound of the violin being carried through the air. In another surprise appearance, Tania set up as a street performer, creating a romantic backdrop for a public proposal. “I can tailor the use of my equipment to an intimate setting, small venue, or gathering (such as a proposal or an elopement) or bring all the bells and whistles and entertain 200+ guests.” For more information and to hear her play, go to www.taniasusimusic.com saratogaTODAYnewspaper.com

Honeymoon Planning made easy WRITTEN BY STACIE BAXTER, HEBER TRAVEL

Congratulations on planning your “I DO!” Photo by Rachel Seeber

Let me tell you a little about our travel agency… Heber Travel has been booking travel plans for our clients since 1970. Celebrating 52 years, we are a family-owned LOCAL small business and have helped so many people discover and enjoy destinations around the world! Our many agents are experts in different areas of the globe and different aspects of the travel industry. We are a FULL-SERVICE travel agency, so we can build that 6-month trip around the world piece by piece, or that Caribbean vacation in the sun and anything else you can think of in the world of travel. COVID-19 has changed the way we all think and travel currently. It’s not as easy as it was pre-covid and this is not going to change anytime soon. Using a travel advisor is more IMPORTANT than ever. Do you have to be vaccinated to travel to your destination? Do you have to take a PCR test and when, to travel? Are there quarantine times? What happens if you test positive at any point before or during your trip? We take the stress away by giving you the information you need and by being your go-to when anything arises during your trip. The travel industry has slowed over the past two years as people have been unsure to travel, which is understandable. But people have been traveling, even outside of the United States. And a lot of our clients have been going on their honeymoons especially since May of 2021. The first and most popular destinations for honeymoons is in the Caribbean! Places like Jamaica, St. Lucia, Aruba, the U.S. Virgin Islands, the Bahamas, and Bermuda are the hot spots and utilize specific covid restrictions, which we don’t expect to change for a few years. Choosing a Sandals vacation is highly recommended as the service, cleanliness protocols and their On-Resort Quarantine, should you test positive for COVID-19, are excellent.

saratogaTODAYnewspaper.com

SPRING\SUMMER 2022 | SARATOGA BRIDE | 45

Secondly, staying inside of the United States has been popular. We have set up honeymoon trips to places like Hawaii, the Napa Valley in California, and Florida including Walt Disney World. Also don’t forget the many National Parks like Yellowstone and Sequoia, great places to experience nature and the outdoors, and they have seen dramatic increases in attendance over the past two years.

#2

Our third most visited place by our honeymoon couples is Mexico and Central America. With various destinations on the East and West Coasts of Mexico such as Riviera Maya and Cabo San Lucas, Mexico is the warmth you may be looking for. With its gorgeous beaches, fun night life and educational opportunities to learn about the Mayan Empire, Mexico is an excellent destination choice for your honeymoon. You may want to visit the lush Tropical rainforests and beautiful coasts of Costa Rica. In the morning, you could adventure through cloud rainforests, visit huge waterfalls and mighty rivers, all while searching for interesting wildlife and in the afternoon be back on the beach in the sun!

#4

Coming in at number four, is Europe. Pre-covid, Europe would have been number two for destinations our clients have chosen for their honeymoon. But in the next year we have started to see a resurgence for those wanting to take that first vacation of “happily ever after” to places like Paris, France and the Amalfi Coast in Italy, Santorini in Greece, and the Cliffs of Ireland. We can build a multitude of different experiences on your honeymoon vacation. Currently, these are the four most popular destinations for honeymoons that our clients have been choosing. We do expect to see more couples begin to book places like Canada, Alaska, Australia, and Tahiti. We also expect the cruise aspect of honeymooning to uptick over the next two years. Imagine the possibilities… a river cruise in the United States or Europe, an ocean cruise in the Caribbean, around the Hawaiian Islands or up to Alaska?! We really recommend that you use a knowledgeable travel advisor who will find you the best value for your money, help to navigate the stressful situations occurring now and who YOU can speak with in-person without being on hold forever! As you plan your future, the world can be open to you to COLLECT MOMENTS, NOT THINGS! To learn more about Heber Travel and our agents please visit our website at www.hebertravel.com, check us out on social media and YouTube.

GOWN BRIDAL GALLERY BY YVONNE • CEREMONY ST. PIUS X LOUDONVILLE • RECEPTION THE GIDEON PUTNAM PHOTOGRAPHER DENIS J NALLY PHOTOGRAPHY

Our jobs and love for sports brought us together. What started as some simple acts of kindness from Chris as co-workers at News Channel 13 turned into a first date in Saratoga Springs. Despite demanding work schedules, often at odd hours including holidays, we only grew closer with each day passing day. Much of our time together was spent at work and yet we still couldn’t spend enough time together away from the TV station. It sounds corny, but every day, month and year got better and better. When we started dating, I introduced Chris to the current country music genre and five years later, he proposed in Nashville with some of our closest family members there to celebrate with us. That tie to country music would lead us to our first dance song choice. Engaged in June of 2019 and all set for a summer wedding one year later. Then, like so many other couples, we put life plans on hold. Albeit temporarily. We delayed our wedding until May of 2021 - and there were still many moments of holding our breath and questioning the new timeline. Would we have to wear masks? Would we be allowed to dance? Pandemic restrictions remained in place, people sought out vaccines and rapid tests and despite the many curve-balls thrown our way, starting our lives together could not be paused any longer. With an initial guest list of more than 230 people, we searched for the largest indoor venues in the area. Our focus centered on Saratoga Springs, where we had our first date. The ballroom (and dance floor) at The Gideon Putnam along with the picturesque park setting fit our every need and more as we would soon find out. Large gatherings were limited to 150 people in the lead up to our new date of May 7, 2021, and with new guidelines seemingly every day, formal invitations at the outset turned into phone calls and text messages. The long-rumored difficult task of putting together a seating chart now required vaccination status for each guest. Like a ticket to a sporting event, people showed vaccination cards or negative test results at the door. With the planning and hoop jumping behind us, we never could have imagined our wedding day to be as perfect as it was. After more than a year cooped up at home, our family and friends let loose to celebrate us - and life overall - on a beautiful sun splashed Early Spring Day. We can’t say enough about the lengths to which The Gideon Putnam went to pull off our wedding reception just two days after reopening. We had our own little bubble where people felt safe to hit the dance floor – the same black and white checkerboard floor we were drawn to initially for its size. Our band and photographer faced the same vaccine and testing requirements and all our vendors remained flexible through all the changes; from the date itself to the number of guests. The steps and stresses that go into planning a wedding felt immeasurably magnified in a pandemic. However, the people who supported us, made it a day beyond our expectations and one we will truly never forget. saratogaTODAYnewspaper.com

ADVICE TO PASS ALONG... It’s true what everyone says about that day, you will be pulled in a bunch of different directions. Take time for the two of you. From making sure to visit each guest table to setting aside time for the necessary photos, don’t forget to relish in the moments with your spouse. We decided to take a step back at times just to watch everyone having fun; it’s rare to have that collection of family and friends all in one place. And, don’t forget to dance and have fun yourselves!

Ashley & Matthew GOWN JUSTIN ALEXANDER SIGNATURE - PURCHASED AT I DO I DO LOCATION SARATOGA NATIONAL • PHOTOGRAPHER DYANNA LAMORA PHOTOGRAPHY

Matt and I met at SUNY Geneseo while in college where we were both in Greek life. We instantly connected on shared life goals and interests and the rest was history! Traveling has always been something we enjoy doing together, and we have always made time to travel somewhere new and exciting every year. Matt proposed to me on our trip to Greece when we arrived in Mykonos! He had planned the whole proposal with the hotel months in advance and when we walked outside by the ocean, there were rose petals everywhere and a photographer hiding to capture the whole event. We were then whisked away on a photo shoot around Mykonos and ended the most perfect day with a romantic dinner! Even though we live in New Jersey currently, I grew up in the Capital Region and we are always visiting my parents in upstate New York. It is a tradition to go out to my birthday dinner every year at Prime at Saratoga National, and we have always joked around wondering if they host weddings there, since the food is so delicious! Once we got engaged, that was naturally the first venue we visited since it was so special to us, and it was an easy choice to say yes to. Matt also loves to golf, so him and his groomsmen had a great time on the course the day before our wedding! Since both our families were coming in from out of town for our wedding, we wanted to welcome them warmly to Saratoga. We made sure to provide a list of all our favorite restaurants for them to try, as well as local landmarks and activities for them to explore. Our guests raved about our Saratoga Welcome Bags that included lots of signature Saratoga delicacies! Many of our guests have already planned follow up trips to Saratoga since they enjoyed the weekend so much! Our wedding day plans changed quite a few times due to COVID - from postponing to downsizing and everything in between – but the team at Saratoga National was incredibly easy to work with and I appreciated them making something that was so complicated as seamless as possible. Our day would not have been the same without our amazing wedding planner Kelly Strong Events - working with her was by far one of the best decisions we made! I also want to thank Renaissance Floral Designs for bringing our Bridgerton-esuqe dreamy florals to life - the tent at Saratoga National was the perfect blank canvas for them to fill with colorful pastel florals. The Adelphi Hotel also made for the perfect getting ready location. Our day in Saratoga was a dream come true!

ADVICE TO PASS ALONG... • Buy meaningful wedding gifts for your loved ones that they will cherish forever. One of the gifts for my mom was a custom drawing of my mom, myself, and my grandma who passed away but wearing the dress she wore to my mom's wedding so it was as if the three of us were together on this special day. (Vendor - JesMarried) • My mom is my best friend and I planned a surprise mother daughter dance for her - one of the most memorable and fun parts of the day! Song - Mom by Meghan Trainor • Don't forget about the little details! Some of my favorite mementos from the day are the custom little items we had made like our vow books. Also, don't wait until the last minute to order these little details! Place the order as soon as you have the idea. • Have everything you want for flat lay photos and detail shots set aside and prepared for your photographer the morning of. You will most likely be getting your hair and makeup done when they arrive and you want to make sure all of these details are captured! • Eat breakfast! This was one thing I forgot to do that I wish I did. Take time for yourself the morning of YOUR day - relax and be pampered!

Amanda & Cameron GOWN TRUE NORTH BRIDAL • LOCATION THE ADELPHI HOTEL PHOTOGRAPHER TRACEY BUYCE PHOTOGRAPHY

Cameron and I have known each other since childhood; he’s been my cousin’s best friend since first grade! Growing up I had a huge crush on him, and when my cousin got married in 2015, we reconnected and began dating! We had our son Leonard in 2018, and soon after purchased our home in Saratoga. We’ve always loved Saratoga and all that the city has to offer, so it was an easy decision about where to live when we moved. Later that same year, on a trip to Aspen, Cameron, Leonard, and I went on a hike and had a picnic lunch at the top of Snowmass Mountain. When I turned around Leonard was “handing” me a ring asking me to marry his daddy. Of course, I said yes! We weren’t even off the gondola before Cam mentioned that he had the perfect venue in mind. We toured the Adelphi once and knew it was for us! The pandemic threw a wrench in our June 2020 wedding plans- we had to postpone our wedding by a year. Our vendors were beyond helpful in assisting us with rescheduling and replanning. While we were disappointed, we had to wait another year to have our wedding, there was one silver lining. Our daughter Charley was born in December of 2020, and she made the perfect flower girl! Our wedding was the perfect celebration with friends and family who we hadn’t seen in over a year. We had an amazing time …totally worth the wait!

Sarita & Gerry GOWN PRONOVIA • LOCATION THE CANFIELD CASINO PHOTOGRAPHER ANNA CASCIO PHOTOGRAPHY

Gerry and I met while working for the same company. We bonded sharing stories of our kids’ sporting events and achievements. After a few years Gerry left the company, but we stayed in contact and realized that what we had nurtured was more than just friendship. Living near the Jersey Shore, our romance blossomed over many bike rides to the beach, walks along the surf and drinks at the many seaside establishments. At the beginning of 2018, Gerry accepted an opportunity with an investment firm that brought him up to Saratoga Springs. Our very first experience was searching for an apartment in the midst of Chowder Fest. With the temperature in the 20s there was no mistaking this for the beach, however, there was an excitement and vibe that felt so very familiar. Within the year, I moved to Saratoga to be with Gerry and we started our new life up north. Walking home from dinner through Congress Park one September evening in 2019, Gerry led us over to the Spirit of Life Statue. We sat on the bench admiring the setting with the beautiful flowers surrounding the lagoon when Gerry took a knee and asked me to marry him. It was a wonderful Saratoga moment. I knew right away I wanted to have “Saratoga” as the theme of our wedding, introducing all our family and friends to our new home. To do this, the very first thing I did was reserve a date at the Canfield Casino. From there, despite the challenges of the pandemic, and with the great help of our wedding planner and all the wonderful service providers, our perfect Saratoga wedding took place. It was a magical day!

GOWN MIKAELLA DUCHESSE IN SATIN, PEARL - PURCHASED AT ANGELA'S BRIDAL LOCATION THE STATE ROOM • PHOTOGRAPHER SUSAN BLACKBURN PHOTOGRAPHY

I first saw Patrick in November of 2015 out the window from my desk. From a shared project to a shared cubicle, we first got to know each other as friends at work. Patrick grew up in Fultonville and returned to the area with his job. I grew up in Rhode Island but moved to Saratoga Springs after graduating from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Not long after we began dating, work took Patrick from Saratoga to Virginia for seven months, and we dated long distance. For us we used it as an opportunity to meet in the middle for weekend trips. When Patrick moved back to the Capital District, we began to build a life together with our hound dog Zoe, and later a beehive as we took up beekeeping. Patrick proposed on New Year’s Day 2019. After a relaxing morning of waffles on the couch, we went out for a snowy hike on a path not far from the house where we usually take Zoe for walks. We talked about the new year and our goals and what the next few years could bring. That's when Patrick got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. After a prolonged engagement due to postponing from our original date, our wedding was everything we had hoped for and more! We are so grateful to have celebrated with the ones we love and we appreciate the vendors that made the magic happen!

Larissa & Sal GOWN DAVID'S BRIDAL • LOCATION COUPLE'S BACKYARD PHOTOGRAPHER ALL OCCASIONS PHOTOGRAPHY

When Sal's small business of superheroes and princesses got booked for a school function, I got recruited to play Snow White by a mutual friend (who happened to play Elsa). As I waited in my car applying my makeup, a curly-haired guy startled me, tapped on my window, and said, "I don't mean to be a creep... but are you a Disney princess?" I was still in normal clothes, but I guess my hair and makeup gave me away. "... Yes, I am..." "Oh cool, I'm Batman. Or at least I will be once the kids arrive. Outside of the cape and cowl, I'm Sal." Alongside the likes of Captain America, Elsa and a Jedi from Star Wars, Sal's Batman and my Snow White bonded over taking photographs and giving high fives to children. It didn't come as much of a shock when he asked me out on a date, it just felt right that this princess and superhero would see where things went. As it turned out, the two of us shared a mutual love of all things geeky, from Dungeons & Dragons to comic books. In fact, a few years later, Sal even proposed to me during a D&D session. It came as no surprise to our guests when our wedding was filled with fun, geeky vibes. I came down the aisle to Princess Leia's Theme Song, our cake was topped with our D&D figures and even my dad, an ordained minister, recited the wedding speech from Princess Bride, lisp and all, as he officiated our wedding. We are so thankful to all the vendors that helped make our day special, particularly Vanessa and Eric of All Occasions Photography who captured all the beautiful, fun moments in our wedding (and later did our maternity and newborn photos!)

Stephanie & Kevin GOWN LILY SARATOGA • LOCATION LAKOTA'S FARM WEDDING & EVENTS PHOTOGRAPHER LINDA CONALLY PHOTOGRAPHY

Our story goes back to 2012 when we first met at Siena College as freshmen. We had chemistry and shared a mutual attraction, but this adventure would not begin until years later. Kevin spent a few years after college maturing from my memory of him as a freshman. He became a teacher and a baseball/football coach. In his spare time, he enjoyed hiking, backpacking, and paddle boarding. I became a traveling SLP. As a head strong, independent woman, I was convinced I would remain single and travel the world. That is until Kevin changed my plans. We ran into one another a few times after college, but our relationship did not start until Kevin saw a picture of me and decided to reach out and ask me on a date. I was living in MA and Kevin was in Saratoga, but Kevin convinced me to have dinner with him. The first date was as though we had never lost touch. The date was not just dinner - it had to have some adventure involved, (a theme for us!). We rock climbed and went "caving" at A.I.R. (Albany’s Indoor Rock Gym). This time around, we acted on our connection. We started spending every weekend together. In a couple months, I moved to the Capital Region, and not long after that, we moved into an apartment together. We continued to nourish our sense of adventure and travel, trying all sorts of new things. We adopted a rescue dog, Zoe, around Christmas that year. This started a trend that our families hope will not continue. We adopted a kitten, Lili the next Christmas, and then a big pup named Finn the Christmas after that. Between animal adoptions and a Saratoga battlefield proposal, we purchased our first home and did all the Do-It-Yourself home projects. In true fashion, we did not want a cookie-cutter new home, but one with character and a hundred-year-old story to tell. Even COVID could not stop this wedding from happening. After postponing our original date (8/1/2020), we were married at Lakota’s Farm on August 6, 2022 surrounded by THE BEST family and friends, ENDLESS dancing, DELICIOUS food, and UNLIMITED beverages! saratogaTODAYnewspaper.com

Molly & Ibrahim GOWN LILLIAN WEST - PURCHASED AT FIORI BRIDAL BOUTIQUE CEREMONY LAKE BOMOSEEN ISLAND • RECEPTION LAKE BOMOSEEN LODGE PHOTOGRAPHER JUNIPER STUDIOS

I was born and raised in Vermont, whereas Ibrahim (Abe) was born in Bosnia and Herzegovina and grew up in Vermont after immigrating in the early 1990s. We have always believed that everything happens for a reason, especially when our paths crossed in the summer of 2013 working at Chili's. Months went by as our friendship grew and we began to spend all our spare time together during breaks, weekly outings to the waterfront, repeated visits to our favorite restaurant, and long drives blasting our favorite music. As New Year's Eve approached, Abe asked me to be his New Year's Eve Kiss, and the rest is history! After 10 years of memories, we haven't stopped laughing together. We have traveled across the country, spent lazy days by the river, learned how to survive a camping trip together, adopted our wild kitties, and most recently, said "I Do" on the Lake Bomoseen Island! Growing up near the lake, it was a special part of my childhood, and I was so excited to share it with Abe and his family. This summer, we hope to travel to Bosnia, with our family, and renew our vows, surrounded by his family there. We would not change a single aspect of our wedding day! We'll never forget the feeling of being together, in this beautiful place, surrounded by all our favorite people; my cheeks still hurt from smiling! We are grateful to all the wonderful vendors with whom we were able to collaborate. They were a huge part of our wedding day and journey, and we felt completely at ease with them! With all that the world brings on today, we could not be happier.

I love rewatching our vows, listening to the speeches and all the dances. • You are not going to be able to talk with everyone! You will feel bad about it at first, but realize this happens to everyone and they understand! Plus, people can come find you on the dance floor! • You will plan for all these pictures, however, eventually you will not want to take anymore photos - just live in the moment!

During this time I had a lot of time to think, plan and figure out how I was going to make my bohemian vision come to life. I found that I wanted macrame incorporated into our day, and decided that this was the perfect time to teach myself how to do it! During these quarantined months, I began watching YouTube videos, and teaching myself how to macrame. I created various pieces for our dessert and memory table, his & her chairs, and even took on the challenge of creating a large arbor piece for our ceremony! I wanted our guests to have a piece of our journey, so I created small hanging pieces, which were placed at each guest's seat, as their take home gift! We love knowing that these little pieces of our wedding are hanging in each of our guests' homes. :)

GOWN SOMETHING BLEU • CEREMONY CHURCH OF ST. PETER'S • RECEPTION CANFIELD CASINO PHOTOGRAPHER HANNAH LUX PHOTOGRAPHY

Natalie and Bethel met one warm Halloween night in Washington, DC (Bethel was a marathon runner, and Natalie was a ballerina). Both living in DC at the time, they steadily got to know each other's friends and families, and after getting snowed in together during a DC "snowmageddan" they knew this was something special. Bethel proposed in the summer of 2018 during a trip to Indonesia and pulled out all the stops, including a private dinner on the beach surrounded by rose petals. They quickly decided that Saratoga Springs, close to where Natalie grew up, was the perfect place to welcome friends and family who would be traveling from all over to help celebrate (from up and down the east coast, to CA, the UK, and Ethiopia). They envisioned a weekend filled with fun, great food, and beautiful scenery and Saratoga delivered even more than they could have dreamed of! After postponing three times due to COVID-19, they were finally able to welcome guests with a kick-off party at Harvey’s in August of 2021. They expanded the traditional rehearsal dinner to include all traveling guests and had a wonderful dinner on the Inn at Saratoga's patio. Finally, they tied the knot in the Church of St. Peter's with a reception at the Canfield Casino Feeling so grateful and lucky to have been able to celebrate with family and friends from near and far… they simply cannot thank all their vendors enough for making their day truly special!

GOWN BIJOU BRIDAL • CEREMONY ST. MARY'S CATHOLIC CHURCH • RECEPTION HALL OF SPRINGS PHOTOGRAPHER ELIZABETH MAHON

In 2016, I moved to Philadelphia for work, providentially just one 1 minute down the street from Colin. We had many mutual friends, so there were plenty of parties and gatherings that put him on my radar. Colin was always so funny and kind, I developed a crush pretty quick. I didn’t know until a year later (finally!) that he had feelings too. Our first date was on a private rooftop above a local pizza shop; we had lots of pizza and wine and easy conversation, and we both left with a hunch that this could be it! A little over a year later, with plenty of trips and hikes and fun dates behind us, we went on a local hike. I was a bit suspicious that Colin would propose, we had talked about marriage and were excited to start our life together. Yet it was still a surprise when he pulled out the perfect ring and asked me to marry him. We were giddy idiots for the rest of the day! Growing up in Rotterdam, I was very familiar with Saratoga and the Hall of Springs, but never dreamed I’d one day have a wedding there... that seemed too good to be true! My mom suggested checking it out; with the staff being incredibly hospitable and a few Saratoga Bride magazines ending up in my possession, I was sold. Colin and I could not have imagined a more joyful and gorgeous wedding day. We still cannot believe we were able to get married in one of the greatest destinations in all of New York State!

Drew and I met in High School and ran in the same friend group (we’re all still best friends to this day!). Drew and I then became best friends, went to prom together, and continued to visit each other in different colleges. I ended up transferring to Ithaca …and we’ve been together ever since! I knew I always loved him but if you were to ask Drew, he would say he loved me first. Seven years’ worth of memories later… We’ve traveled through New Zealand and Costa Rica, bought & renovated our dream home (with our furry child Luna!) and have been enjoying every minute of it! We both grew up in Ballston Spa and are glad we can continue living in a place surrounded by family and friends and we’re still creating new memories. We are both “only children” who truly consider our friends our family, and the day would not have been the same without having them all there. I work as a wedding planner in the Capital Region and STILL could not have imagined how amazing the day would be. All I can say is take it all in! Enjoy every moment, don’t let the little things get to you & spend time with the ones you love. The moments I remember most are the unexpected/unplanned ones! Marcel was living in Poughkeepsie, working as a lacrosse coach at Bard College. I was in my senior year of college at Marist completing my semester of student teaching. We met just before Christmas in 2015 through my best friend and his friend on his college lacrosse team (they had dated since middle school!) My family lived in Hawaii when I graduated college, so I traveled to live on the island for a while. Marcel and I knew we had something special. We visited each other often while we did long distance and we finally decided to move in together when he was offered a lacrosse coaching job at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY, which brought us here permanently! Marcel proposed on a walk through the Saratoga Golf and Polo Club. It was during the height of COVID quarantine in April of 2020, so the golf course was empty. We walked to this bridge with a pond, and I accidentally felt the ring in his pocket right before it happened. (My hands were cold, so I reached in his jacket pockets to keep warm. Oops!) Before I left for Hawaii, I gave Marcel a pouch of crystals that meant special things to us and our relationship. He has kept it ever since. When planning our wedding, we wanted a special way for our guests to participate during the ceremony that we could all remember. We decided to leave a rose quartz crystal on everyone's chair. During the ceremony, our officiant (Marcel's friend) asked everyone to hold their crystal and think of one wish, a piece of advice or just think of our love and put it in the stone. After the ceremony, we had everyone put their crystals into a large holder with candles. Now, we keep everyone's love and well wishes with us every day! Planning a wedding during COVID has been a unique experience. It made our special day even more fulfilling. Just being with the people that mean the most to us and celebrating love and togetherness was all we wanted. Especially after being in quarantine and not seeing some friends and family for years, it was just perfect having everyone together to eat, dance and celebrate love.

ADVICE TO PASS ALONG... • Don't save things until the last minute. • Enjoy the little moments and savor the food. • Get the pictures you really want and vocalize what you imagined to your photographer. Make sure the details of the wedding represent YOU and have fun with it!! • Try to make your wedding an experience. Because we were married on labor day weekend, all our guests came for the whole weekend and went to the track. • Stick to the plan you want. On our wedding day, it rained all morning RIGHT up until the ceremony. Instead of changing the plan to an indoor ceremony, my dad said "Do what YOU want. If you get rained on, it'll be even more romantic!" So, we had the ceremony outside and it stopped raining just in time.

GOWN RK BRIDAL • CEREMONY THE PADDOCK AT SARATOGA RACE COURSE RECEPTION THE 1863 CLUB AT SARATOGA RACE COURSE • PHOTOGRAPHER SKIP DICKSTEIN PHOTOGRAPHY

I grew up riding horses and Dan grew up at the track. We both fell in love with each over while bonding over our love for horses. Dan and I both work for the New York Racing Association and met at Aqueduct racetrack. As we started dating, we knew we would always incorporate horses in our lives, so when Dan proposed to me, we couldn't think of a better place than the Winner's Circle at Saratoga Race Course. As we started planning our wedding, we knew we wanted to get married in the new 1863 Club as we were both involved in its construction. Saratoga holds such a special place in our hearts that once we had the venue, we were full steam ahead with incorporating race horses in our wedding. Since we live on Long Island, Saratoga was not too far for our close friends and family to travel to. Most of our family lives in New York and New Jersey while other friends traveled from Chicago, Miami, Raleigh, and Buffalo. Having a weekend wedding allowed our friends and family to enjoy the city of Saratoga Springs and explore everything we love about it! Except for one, all our vendors are based in Saratoga. I cannot say enough amazing things about each one of our vendors who captured our Racetrack Wedding vision and turned it into a beautiful fairytale wedding. From riding a horse into the ceremony, to having quarter poles as centerpieces… all our guests could tell it was a Summer in Saratoga wedding. I have to admit, it was a bit scary planning a wedding in a city three hours away and at a venue that had never had a wedding before, but our wedding was an absolute dream come true!

ADVICE TO PASS ALONG... • The best advice I could give to fellow brides would be to enjoy the entire day. We put so much planning into a wedding and it goes by quickly. Take moments to be with your partner during the night. • We also spent the entire cocktail party saying hello to all of our guests that way when we entered the reception, we would party all night long!

Urban Poppy also helped my design vision come to life. Now we have multiple row boats and will travel to help others find their very own Notebook vibe!

GOWN HAYLEY PAIGE "LAUREN" - PURCHASED AT DRESS YOUR FANCY BRIDAL BOUTIQUE LOCATION THE BARN AT LORD HOWE VALLEY • PHOTOGRAPHER JB PHOTOGRAPHY

Dylan and I met in high school, I was a sophomore, and he was a senior. It wasn’t until after I graduated and was in my first semester of college that we went on our first date. I knew that he was the one I wanted to spend the rest of my life with from the very first date. After five years of dating, while vacationing in Rhode Island, Dylan popped the question! He proposed in front of a lighthouse on Block Island, Rhode Island, just as the sun was beginning to set. Our friends were there taking pictures and it was so romantic. It truly felt like a scene from a movie. And I was SO surprised! As much as we both love the beach and the ocean, we love the mountains and fresh air of upstate New York. We knew we wanted a rustic and romantic wedding venue. The Barn at Lord Howe Valley was the very first venue that we looked at, and we quickly fell in love! We had brought our Siberian Husky, Maverick, along for the ride. Upon arriving for our tour of the barn, we were greeted by Tim Latchford, husband of Sarah Latchford (owner). He insisted that we bring Maverick along with us for the tour and assured us that it was okay for our fur-baby to be present on our wedding day too! Anyone that knows us, knows how important that was for us. We knew at that point that we were going to pick The Barn at Lord Howe Valley for our big day. But seeing the gorgeous post and beam barn, and the breathtaking chandeliers and cathedral ceilings, really sealed the deal for us. Sarah and Tim do an amazing job with coordinating the entire weekend, from the rehearsal to the clean up after all the fun is over. Our wedding day could not have been any more beautiful, and we were so thankful for all our vendors that helped to make the day what it was. There was not a single thing we would have changed. It really was our dream wedding and a perfect day. We were both just so appreciative of being able to spend the day surrounded by all our friends and family whom we love so much!
