Interactive Design and Interaction Design – The Right Blend For a Comprehensive Design

Interactive Design and Interaction Design – The Right Blend For a Comprehensive Design Both these terms, ‘Interactive Design’ and ‘Interaction Design’, though sound similar and are often misunderstood by designers, have separate functions and methodologies. Though they both surely are two sides of the same coin and complement each other, they have their own individual identities to stand for. Interactive design can be referred to as a sequence of events which occur through a series of frames, through which a user navigates via different media like sounds, clicks or gestures. Interaction design has its spotlight directly on the user and focuses on achieving any task with user requirement in front. Interactive Design concentrates on creating significant uses of hardware and systems whereas Interaction Design involves the design of those particular hardware and systems. Think of Interaction design existing without Interactive design – you get only an interface. And think of it vice versa – Interactive design barring Interaction design is not possible since there will be total absence of hardware. Interaction Design •Usable, useful devices •Hardware compatibility and intuitive technology support •User oriented environment •Smooth conversation between technology and users

Interactive Design •Giving purpose to Interaction Design through meaningful experiences •Deliver compatible software •Generate intuitive and responsive software •Creates a conducive platform to support human cognitive responses and emulate them through multiple mediums

Interaction Design The focus of Interaction Design is to make devices fun loving, enjoyable and easy to use. With a mark on communication, technology and product design, this design technique is sure to give better user experience. These type of designs have become most wanted which it comes to design concepts that match user needs also are in sync with the modern UI/UX design technique and patterns. The tasks that an Interaction designer needs to take up are:

     

Analyse audience requirements Create separate layouts Imbibe usable features Possess intuitive interfaces Have varied interactions and gestures Provide a consistent look all throughout

Interactive Design The main fundamental behind Interactive design is to let the user experience be a lot more meaningful. With combinations of UI, usability, user needs and response to demands, whatever the device may be, the information is obtained with a purpose. Both the responsive and adaptive styles of design are handled by this design pattern with a seamless flow for users between various devices. The tasks that an Interactive designer needs to take up are:    

Preparing purposeful design via applicable UX User connectivity with proper responsiveness UI experience Information interpretation through human gestures

On the whole, it is imperative that to obtain a complete design solution, both these styles of design need to be in sync with each other and work in co-ordination to ensure ultimate user experience which is the prime goal of any designer.
