Students will examine the teacher’s role in supporting development, fostering the joy of learning and creativity through the essential role of play. Content areas include language/literacy, social/emotional/sensory learning, art, music, math, science, health/safety, and motor development. Prerequisite: Human Development 108A and 111A. The importance of collaboration between families and health and school professionals to ensure physical and mental health of all children, families, and professionals will be explored. HUMAN DEVELOPMENT 111A, PRINCIPLES AND PRACTICES OF TEACHING YOUNG CHILDREN 3.0 UNITS This course examines the underlying historical and theoretical principles, and the developmentally appropriate practices of early childhood programs and environments. Emphases will be on the key role of relationships, constructive adult-child interactions, and teaching strategies in supporting physical, social, creative and intellectual development for all children.
