BTS Skytrain: Convenient and fast, BTS operates from 06:00 A.M. to 12:00 A.M. A one-way trip is from 10 Baht with the maximum fare being 52 Baht. The two existing routes are the ‘Sukhumvit Line’ from Mo Chit to Bearing, and, the ‘Silom Line’, from National Stadium to Bang Wah. Taxis: A short ride will provide you with an inexpensive and comfortable trip to Thonglor. Long-tail Boats: Khropkhrua Khonsong Co., Ltd. operates boats along Saensaeb Canal and Ladprao Canal. Red Buses: A Thonglor icon, the red buses for local short trips on Thonglor road are operated by the Red Bus House (Thonglor) Co., Ltd. These buses operate around the clock. You can get on and off anywhere you want for a fixed fare of 6 Baht, regardless of distance. Motorcycle Taxis: Local motorcycle taxi fares within Thonglor start from 10 Baht for a short trip or 15 Baht for a longer one. 4

ทองหล่อเป็นบริเวณที่อาศัยของคนหลากหลายชาติในสมัย สงครามโลก โดยเฉพาะชนชาติญี่ปุ่นที่เข้ามาตั้งฐานทัพและ ร้านรวงต่างๆ ก็เป็นสัญลักษณ์ของการอาศัยอยูข่ องชนชาติญปี่ นุ่ ชื่ อ ของทองหล่ อ ถ้าสังเกตให้ดี จะเห็ น ว่ า ร้ า นค้ า ในซอย ทองหล่อสะกดชื่อทองหล่อเป็นภาษาอังกฤษว่า Thonglor แต่หน่วยงานราชการจะก�ำหนดชื่อป้าย ซอย เป็นภาษาอังกฤษ ว่า Thong Lo ถนนซอยทองหล่อ ได้ชื่อว่าเป็นถนนเส้นแรกที่มีการเกิดขึ้น ของ Community Mall และท�ำให้รูปแบบของ Community Mall เป็นที่นิยม อีกทั้งเป็นถนนที่รวบรวมสตูดิโอแต่งงานไว้เป็น จ�ำนวนมาก และปัจจุบัน มีกว่า 20 ร้าน People of many ethnicities used to have business ventures in this area. This was particularly true for the Japanese, and, even today, there are still many Japanese businesses operated in the Thonglor neighbourhood. The name Thonglor is interesting to note that the various establishments spell the name of this road “Thonglor” while the authority uses “Thong Lo” for the signage. Thonglor road is believed that Thonglor was the birthplace of community malls, long before they became popular elsewhere. No other road has more wedding studios than Thonglor. The current count is over 20.

Chak Phra festival: This important tradition of Thonburi involves the floating of Buddha’s relics along the river two days after the Loy Krathong festival. These relics are an ancient possession of Wat Phranang Chee. They are not supposed to pass underneath bridges so they must be removed from the boat, brought on land around the bridge before being put on the boat again on the other side of the bridge. Other features include theatrical performances and food stalls. The Chak Phra festival attracts many people who come to pay respect to the relics. Loy Krathong festival: One of the most beautiful Thai festivals, the Loy Krathong festival is held on the full moon day of the twelfth month on the traditional Thai calendar.
Royal Barge Procession: This ancient procession is designed as a mode of transportation for the King on his way to the Katin ceremony at Wat Arun31

Chao Phraya River express boats and shuttle boats: Piers are available at Tha Chang, Tha Tian, Tha Dheves, Tha Khlong San, Tha Siphaya and a few other locations. There is also an express boat service running from Chao Phraya to Nonthaburi. Service operates daily from 06:00 A.M. to 06:00 P.M. BTS Skytrain: The extended Silom route of BTS is historic in that it is Thailand’s first skytrain across the Chao Phraya River from Sapan Taksin Station to Thonburi and Wongwien Yai Stations. The route has been further extended along Taksin and Petchakasem to four more stations after Wong wien Yai which are Poe Nimit Station, Ratchada-Ratchaphruek Station, Wootakart Station and Bangwah Station where Ratchaphruek Road intersects with Petchakasem Road in Pasee Charoen District. MRT Subway: The Ratchamongkhon route begins from Hualampong Station to Bangsue Station. In the future, this route will be connected with the orange, purple, yellow, green and pink MRT routes. Three-wheel taxis: The so-called Tuk Tuk taxis run from Siriraj-Panich Thon Pier, Wat Dongmoonlek and Wat RakangPoe Sarm Ton. Small four-wheel taxis: These local taxis operate the route from Siriraj-Panich Thon Pier, Bang Khun Si, Bang Khun Non, Talat Phlu and Khlong San.

From 1767 to 1782, Thonburi was the capital of Thailand. Thonburi District is rich with several ancient sites such as old palaces and temples. The area is subject to preservation as well as development for the old to coexist with the new at the same time. The full name of the city was Mueang Thonburi Sri Mahasamutr. It has since been shortened to only Thonburi. Thonburi is the presence of churches and mosques alongside temples represents religious plurality.

Built in the Ayudhya Era, this royal temple was the residence of the supreme patriarchs during the Thonbur i Era and R att anakosin Era. During the reign of King Rama I, a bell was unearthed while renovation work was carried out on the temple. His Majesty had it transferred to the Temple of the Emerald Buddha and commissioned five new bells to be built as replacements. He has also given the temple a new name of Wat Rakang Kositaram there is an exquisite Tripitaka Hall at this temple. To worship at this temple is believed to bring good fortune and fame. Santa Cruz Church Santa Cruz Church in Kudi Jeen Community by the Chao Phraya River was built around the time when King Taksin made Thonburi the new capital. A piece of land was set aside for Christians relocating here after the fall of Ayudhaya to build a church for their religious activities. This church is often referred to as Kudi Jeen because it has a similar look to a Chinese shrine. The current church building was rebuilt in 1913 in neoclassical Italian and renaissance style. Santa Cruz Church stands out with a domed tower, similar to that of the Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall but with a cross at the top.

Bhuddhamonthon Park The peace and serenity of Bhuddhamonthon Park is afforded by large trees and symbolic Buddhist sculptures and structures such as the Bhuddhamonthon Temple Hall and the main Buddha image of Bhuddhamonthon. The park is divided into six zones for different types of plants. Bamboo is grown in Weluwan Park while Ampawan Park has more than one hundred kinds of mango and the rare earleaf acacia trees. Sai Park has over five rai of banyan trees. Lattiwan Park is full of palm trees and the Samoonprai Park is rich with 211 types of herbs. This Bhuddhamonthon Park is an important venue for religious festive days such as Visakha Bucha Day, Makha Bucha Day and Asarnha Bucha Day. Sermons are delivered every Saturday and Sunday, making this one of the most celebrated sites of Buddhism in the world.
