Drink Up Stories from the Bar

Bartenders wear many hats—mixologist, host, last-minute friend, or sometimes even therapist. They’re also witness to some fairly interesting behavior. We took a little field trip to see if our local bartenders would share their tales from the bar. —Katy Berry Strangest Drink We’ve been getting a lot of requests for “Stop Lights” lately. The drink is red, yellow, and green. The green is Midori, the yellow is banana liqueur, and the red is something with a Jaegermeister mix. Usually by the time you hit the red, you’re ready to hit the floor. - Tracie Leong, Bradley’s American Bistro, Stockton

Most Interesting Regular We have this one customer that dresses up like Michael Jackson. He never drinks, he just comes in and dances like Michael. The DJs know him as a regular and when he comes in, they’ll play a song and clear the way for him. He’s on YouTube. - Stephanie Castro, The Great Plate, Tracy

FROM SEA TO TABLE Stockton's Seafood Express

Celebrity Sightings The Stockton Ports were here last night. A dozen of the players came to celebrate after their victory. - Andy Faria, O’Ryleigh’s Tavern, Stockton

Most Overdone Sing Along “Love Shack.” I like the song but they overdo it. Almost every karaoke night you'll hear that. - Brian Clark, The Shamrock, Tracy

Biggest ‘Oops’ Moment It was the middle of winter and somebody threw a smoke bomb in the men’s room. It went through the vent system and came out through the heater, so we thought the heater was catching on fire. We called the police and the fire department and cleared everyone out on a weekend night. And then the manager needed to use the bathroom, and he walked in and it was completely filled with smoke. We looked like complete idiots. - Chris Rothenberger, Garry’s Lounge, Lodi
