A few objects overlap the existing public spaces building new urban landscapes. A set of objects, out of ordinary, create an imaginary space that involve people movements and emotions.

The square in front of this church in the centre of Milan is actually a car park. The aim of the project is to give back the square to people. The old sculptural elements that marked the churchyard are now placed along the stairs of the church. The projects wants to use them as a symbolic pawn of a chessboard that redefine the square borders. The chairs become new pawns moved by people to creating spontaneous meeting places.
This page: visual of the square. Left page: plan of Sant’Alessandro Square.

This monumental place once represented the religious and civic values. The project then attempts to transmit and retrieve the importance ot that square, through an intervention that involves the body and the senses. Ancient sacred forest for the Celts, returns to be a place of contemplation. A mirror path that multiplies the presence of the existing trees, leads to the eye mirror, where a sort of collective ritual of watching the sky happens.

S Q U A R E A new extended square, leading from a traffic arteria to a quiet park in the centre of the city. The homogeneous paving re-establish a unique public space. The project aim is to use traditional materials to renovate the city centre: “alberese” and “basaltina” are the stones for the square. The project is divided into three main areas, which group the fragmented centre of San Lazzaro: the public space around the site (the cloister of the City Hall, via San Lazzaro, via Remembranze , via Emilia and the car parks of Via Repubblica and Via Rimembranze), Bracci Square and the 2 Agosto Park. The park is designed around the existing shapes and native trees species, enriched with new autochthonous trees and native shrubbery.

The museum is conceived like a box covered with the same stone of the Jerusalem wailing wall. The light enters just from the top trough a red cone that represents the Jewish religion. The exhibition starts from the dark and leads to the light: a tunnel leads to museum building. On every level we can enter in the red cone and learn how the Jewish Synagogue is conceived. In the tunnel the history of the Shoah is narrated trough the voice of the most important Jewish personalities.

The “Centro Medico Santagostino” (CMS) is a new private medical centre in Milan. For the new centre I collaborated with the photographer Ugo De Berti and DeAmicis Architects to conceive and produce the graphics. In particular the concept for the windows is to show every day situations of the doctors working in the centre. The idea had a great success and it was used for the second centre opened 1 year later.

The port Édouard Herriot, is an industrial port with a constant very high noise produced by the industrial activities. It is very hard to find a peaceful area to rest a bit before returning to work. But when you keep close to the river, down the steps that lead to the river, silence envelops you. The aim of the project is to create, resting structure near the river, where the workers can take a few minutes pause from the noisy hours.

“100 years in one exhibition”
Inaugurated on June 27 at the Palazzo Reale, the exhibition “A Century of History, a hundred years of style” recounts a slice of
Neapolitan and Italian life through the history of the company E. Marinella. The exhibition begins with a section of photos, documents and curiosity, displayed through the 3 generations of the family. The corpus of the exhibit is located in the Salone d’Ercole where the original pieces and the tools of the production E. Marinella from 1914 to date are exposed. Shirts, ties, bow ties, wool hats, walking sticks along with irons, needles, thimbles, sewing machines are witnesses of an expert craftsmanship which, combined with the creativity of Marinella family earned the success of the company that has become an ambassador of the Italian style in the world.

The Rice Cluster appears like an out of scale rice field where the soil texture are recognizable. The colours, the smell and the shadows come with the rice’s growing and they characterize the flowing of time between the pavilions. Like the water in the rice field is a mirror that hides and disclosed, also the cluster hides another “informative landscape” ready to disclose to the visitors. From the Landscape to the Data-scape, it’s only a point of view.
C L U S T E R From left to right, clockwise: scale model of the Cluster; photo of the pavilion in May; diagram of the mirror facade and rice field; photo of the pavilion in July.
