Happy Easter, everybunny! Oops, we mean everybody! Are you eggs-cited about celebrating Easter this weekend? Do you have plenty of eggs-cellent chocolate eggs to tuck in to? Or maybe you’re ready to go eggs-ploring on an Easter egg hunt. There’s no denying that chocolate eggs are a big part of Easter celebrations (and we can understand why – they’re so yummy). However, it’s important not to let the pile of chocolate treats hide the real reason people celebrate this special weekend.

Happy Easter!

Easter weekend is one of my favourite times of year. I even think there are some things that make it better than Christmas. Before you start shouting, ‘What are you talking about? Christmas is the best!’, hear me out. Christmas is amazing, but it’s also often really busy. There’s so much to prepare, school concerts and plays to practise for and loads of people to meet up with. The thing I like most about Easter is it’s usually a little more chilled. This gives me more time to relax with my family and to focus on the Easter story. If you want to join me for some Easter relaxation, there’s plenty of fab features to help you in this week’s issue. On page 11 there’s a beautiful Easter Colouring and pages 12 and 13 are full of fun ideas for how you can spend your Easter school holidays. Happy Easter!

Jump for Joy!

How eggs-cited do you get on Easter morning? Do you eggs-tatically hop out of bed eagerly looking forward to lots of Easter treats? Easter is an important and joyful Christian celebration. However, as we see in this week’s Bible cartoon story, the very frst Easter morning didn’t start off that way.

When Mary and her friends went to the tomb to anoint Jesus’ body, they were heartbroken. Their dear friend and teacher was dead. In that moment, all the marvellous miracles they’d seen Jesus perform probably felt like a made-up fairy tale.

However, seeing the empty tomb changed everything. Jesus wasn’t dead – he was alive! When the ladies realised what had happened and remembered the promises Jesus had made, they were flled with joy. Jesus had really won the ultimate victory over sin and death.

The great news is that Jesus didn’t come back to life around 2,000 years ago and then die again. He’s alive now! And because he’s alive we get to enjoy a loving relationship with God that will last for ever. How does that sound? Like good news?

So, as you prepare to tuck into your Easter eggs, how else will you choose to celebrate this Easter? Will you joyfully share the news that Jesus is alive, just like the ladies did on that very frst Easter morning? Or will you decide to accept the new life that Jesus offers and begin a wonderful adventure with him that’ll last for ever? However you decide to spend the Easter weekend, don’t forget to jump for joy. Why? Because Jesus is alive!

Bumper Bible Breakdown

Did you know the Bible isn’t one big book? It’s actually 66 books put together to tell one big story of God’s great love. Join us as we look at each Bible book and discover why God made the world, what went wrong and how in the end God saved the world through his son, Jesus.

Abraham’s Family Begins to Grow

Bum b er Bible B

Genesis Genesis

Abraham’s son, Isaac, married Rebekah and they had twin boys named Jacob and Esau. After tricking Esau out of their father’s blessing, Jacob ran away to his uncle’s house. On his way, God appeared to Jacob in a dream and made the same promise to him that he’d made to his grandfather, Abraham. Jacob had 12 sons, but Joseph was his favourite. He made Joseph a colourful coat. Joseph had two dreams that his family were bowing down to him, making his brothers angry. They sold him off as a slave, but God was with Joseph. Eventually, Joseph became a great leader in Egypt. He forgave his brothers for what they’d done, saying that God had made everything work together for good. Jacob and Joseph were reunited and the whole family settled down in Egypt.

Optical illusions use colour, light or patterns to confuse our brains – that means the illusions look different to what is actually there.

Are the long lines in the image parallel to each other? Parallel means they’re side by side with the same distance between them at all times. Despite looking like they’re slanting towards each other, the lines aren’t. It’s the short lines that confuse our brains.

Activity Hunt

Has your school broken up for the Easter holidays now? Do you have two weeks off stretching in front of you?

That’s a lot of time to fll, so we thought you might like some super suggestions for having fun during your break.

We Like to Move It

It’s great to take time to rest during the school holidays. However, you don’t have to spend the whole two weeks sitting on the sofa! It’s good for your bodies and minds to still ft in some active time too and it can also be a way to relax as well.

Why don’t you start your holidays by setting up a family challenge? You could write a chart with activities that each family member needs to do every day. This could include 30 minutes of physical activity. The activities could be whatever you like, including going for a family walk, riding your bike, swimming or even having a dance off in your kitchen! There could also be a prize or certi for every family member who manages to complete the challenge.

The Great Outdoors

If you’re going on a family walk why not make it even more fun by turning it into a nature scavenger hunt! Before you go out on your adventure, ask your parents or carers to fnd a nature spotter sheet online so you can tick things off that you see. Or you could create your own. Here are some things that you might want to add to your scavenger tick sheet.

12
Tree blossom Daffodils Blue tit
Bird nest Caterpillar

Let it Grow

Another really cool way to spend your holidays is planting some seeds so you can grow your own fruit or vegetables. Have a look in supermarkets for tomato or carrot planting kits. Or plan ahead and get hold of some cucumber, sweetcorn or pea seeds. These can be planted indoors in March or April or planted outside from May.

Super Scrapbooking

If you love being creative how about making a scrapbook about yourself or something you love? It could include photos, drawings or things you’ve picked up from your nature scavenger hunt, such as blossom that’s fallen off trees. You could also stick in your empty seed packets or draw pictures of your Easter adventures.

Rainy Day Suggestions

Sometimes the weather makes getting outside more diffcult. However, if you’re wearing the right clothes you can still have plenty of fun outside jumping in puddles! Even if you are stuck indoors the fun doesn’t have to stop. Here are some cool rainy day suggestions that we think you’ll love.

See what you can create using your family’s recycling. There are endless possibilities for what you can make with old cardboard boxes or plastic packaging – go wild and see what your imagination comes up with.

Re-read your favourite book!

Get baking! You could make some chocolate cornfake cakes – add some mini chocolate eggs to make them look like a bird nest too.

Write a story or draw a cartoon. See what super stories you have hiding away at the back of your brain!

Lots of people love to spring clean their house at this time of year. Tidying everything up, getting rid of things you don’t need anymore and making sure everything looks fresh and clean is super helpful and can make you feel great too.

Remember you don’t have to try to fit in all of these suggestions. They’re just some ideas. Have an excellent Easter break!

Robbie’s put me in charge of his Easter breakfast this year.

He told me that’s his Easter favourite.

What are you going to do for him, Robot?

A boiled egg.

I can’t wait for my boiled egg, Robot. I’m ravenous.

i can see that. It’s a hen’s egg you’re meant to boil, not a chocolate Easter egg! oops!

I’m afraid that there’s been a bit of a problem with your boiled egg, Robbie.
