Movement between silences
Lately I have been wondering whether everything is emptiness, darkness and silence. Whether our entire existence might be just a stage, with spotlights illuminating our movements and gestures, but beyond that vision, all is darkness. I shudder to think of it. What if it turns out that the whole performance keeps going under its own momentum, and yet, because we are blinded by the light, we fail to realise that the auditorium is empty?
I stand on the stage, dazzled by the spotlights and ask in a loud voice:
Is this theatre really empty?
I get no answer, but after a while I can feel a faint vibration. Something has changed. I raise my voice again:
Is
there anything other than the emptiness?
I look up and down and from side to side and I see that I am alone on the stage. Then I close my eyes, relax my body, relax my mind. There is no movement, no breathing, no vibration. There is no interference. Just darkness.
Then, I realize that I am standing on the other side of the stage. My body has been transformed; it is now a great mass without limits, which strangely I can feel expanding and contracting. On the other side of the stage, the figure is still standing. On this side, there are no questions, the facts are confirmed.
An external voice draws me out of this state. When I open my eyes, the shapes surrounding me become clearer. I look at my hands and I have a strong feeling of life —much life— flowing through them. I am overcome by a profound feeling of fullness and presence. But I can’t help wondering:

INÉS GARCÍA (b. Bilbao, 1983) works in film and contemporary art, making installations, videos, and short and feature films.
Her work has been shown at exhibitions such as El Verb Harmònic at La Panera (Lleida, 2022), BIAM22 at Centre d’Art Lo Pati (Amposta, 2022), Glissements d’échelle at Obrador (Bilbao, 2022), Expanded Studio Project at PS2 (Belfast, 2019), NEW SPAIN at Galería Solar (Vila do Conde, 2018) and at a number of other venues in Barcelona, Madrid and Santander.
Her videos and films have been screened at venues including the Palacio de Festivales in Santander and the Film Library of Catalonia; and at festivals such as DOCUMENTA MADRID, ZINEBI, La Inesperada, Punto de Vista, LOOP, KurzFilm Oberhausen and Les Rencontres Internationales Paris / Berlin, the Latin Video Art Festival in New York, the Tehran Film Festival , FIVA in Buenos Aires and in other cities, including Lisbon, Athens, Montreal and Nottingham. Her work has also been shown in contemporary art centres such as CA2M (Madrid), Tabakalera (Donostia-San Sebastián), Sala Rekalde (Bilbao), MARCO (Vigo) and La Conservera (Murcia) and others.
She has received grants and scholarships from the Fundación BilbaoArte, Eremuak, Etxepare, the Provincial Government of Bizkaia and Fundación Santander Creativa.
