OVERVIEW
Located approximately 25 miles northwest of downtown Chicago, Saint Viator High School is a Catholic, college-preparatory community of learning called to provide religious formation and an academic program of excellence to young men and women. Guided by the Viatorian mission, all Saint Viator graduates are equipped to discern who God wants them to be, discover what the world needs, and transform the communities they encounter. This is taught in the classroom by encouraging collaboration and innovation. Saint Viator High School is accredited by Advanced Ed and the State of Illinois. It is a College Board, NACAC and IACAC member. Sixty-three percent of Saint Viator High School faculty members hold an advanced degree. Neighboring schools include Prospect, Rolling Meadows, and John Hersey high schools.
RECOGNITION
In 2008 and 2014, Saint Viator High School was selected as a National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education. Saint Viator High School has also been recognized as an Apple Distinguished School from 2015 through 2022, and was recognized as a 2019 and 2020 AP Computer Science Female Diversity Award Winner. These distinctions, along with being named a top STEM high school by Newsweek, speak to Saint Viator’s ongoing commitment to innovation and push to use technology to enhance student learning.
STUDENT BODY
The student body consists of 812 students (226 of which are seniors). Our students come from 52 feeder schools across the Chicago suburbs. Additionally, our student body includes 42 students who are a part of our Reverend Mark R. Francis, CSV, International Program. Approximately 30% of our students receive financial assistance, including students who participate in our Summer Work Study & Internship Program. Together these programs ensure there is a commitment to both socioeconomic and cultural diversity in the halls of Saint Viator High School.
GRADING SCALE AND SCHEDULE
Beginning in fall of 2021, Saint Viator will conduct classes on a 90-minute A/B block schedule and will begin to report GPA’s on a weighted 4.0 scale. While semester grades for individual classes will still be reported numerically, cumulative grades will now be calculated based on this scale: Grading Scale 98 - 100 = 4.33 93 - 97 = 4.0 90 - 92 = 3.67 87 - 89 = 3.33 83 - 86 = 3.0 80 - 82 = 2.67

RESPONSE TO COVID
Through the cooperation from parents and students, we accomplished what most other schools in the area could not; we established and maintained to the fullest extent possible, the optimal learning environment for our students during the 2020-2021 academic year. By the end of the year, our students had completed 140 days of in-person learning.
WHAT RIGOR LOOKS LIKE AT SAINT VIATOR Saint Viator encourages students to follow their passions and find balance in their studies. For those seeking an extra challenge to the college preparatory base, Saint Viator offers two dual credit courses (AP Calculus AB & AP Italian Language and Culture), one accelerated math course (Multivariable Calculus), 20 Honors classes, and 20 AP classes (listed below). Therefore, the most rigorous course schedules at SVHS will include 8 or more AP classes.

85% of our student body participated in one or more of our 32 athletic teams. 33 members of the Class of ‘21 currently play collegiate (NCAA, NAIA, JUCO) sports. In 2021, Saint Viator’s Varsity teams brought home 3 Regional championships, 4 Conference Championships, and had 2 state-qualifying teams.
CO-CURRICULAR • • • •
During the 2020-2021 COVID school year, 40% of students participated in 40 unique clubs and organizations. Over 100 students annually participate in the school musical. Our Fine Arts program includes choir, band, orchestra, dance, digital music, theater, visual arts, digital design and media arts. Beginning with the 2021-2022 school year, Saint Viator will add in a flex period at the end of the day. This flex period is a set time between the end of the academic day and beginning of sports which allows for students to pursue their interests in clubs, activities, service, health and wellness, and campus ministry.

SPECIAL PROGRAMS
Saint Viator offers students a series of unique programs designed to enhance the educational experience for various groups. QUERBES SCHOLARS The Querbes Scholars Program recognizes our highest academically achieving students by providing enriching activities that foster personal growth, intellectual independence, and faith development in accordance with the mission and vision of our founder Fr. Louis Querbes. Applications are accepted during the fourth quarter of freshman, sophomore, or junior years. Applicants must maintain a minimum weighted GPA of 4.4 and register for 3 honors classes for the upcoming year to maintain eligibility. STEM DESIGNATION The STEM designated curriculum is ideal for students who are considering a college major in science, technology, engineering or math. To achieve this designation, students must take a minimum of two STEM courses per year with a minimum grade in each STEM class of 80% in regular and 75% in honors classes (unweighted), and must maintain a cumulative weighted GPA of 3.0 or above. In addition, they must complete one full year of an approved computer technology class and at least one Advanced Placement STEM course. INCUBATORedu In this program, students will create their own business and learn how to be entrepreneurs by developing skills in creative problem-solving, critical thinking, public speaking, and teamwork. Students are taught by teams of volunteers and subject-matter experts, providing an opportunity to work with real-world entrepreneurs. 65 students completed the course in the 2020-2021 school year.

SCANLAN CENTER The Scanlan Center is for students who have the potential to succeed academically, but who might require more individualized support to excel in Saint Viator’s rigorous college-preparatory curriculum. Students accepted into the program have diagnosed learning differences, Other Health Impairments (OHI), Response to Intervention (RTI) plans, a current psycho -educational evaluation report, neuropsychological evaluation report, or qualify for services through a case evaluation by Saint Viator staff. The Scanlan Center staff has helped hundreds of students develop independent, lifelong learning skills. 118 students were enrolled in the Scanlan Center’s Learning Strategy course in the 2020-2021 school year. SUMMER WORK STUDY AND INTERNSHIP PROGRAM The Summer Work Study and Internship Program (SWSIP) at Saint Viator offers a great opportunity for 23 students to gain valuable real-world professional experience by interning at a local business over the summer. Students who participate in this program will have a professional mentor and dedicated program coordinator to support them while they intern and beyond. All of the funds earned during an internship will go toward tuition at Saint Viator. SEAL OF BILITERACY Beginning with the 2021-2022 school year, students will be able to earn a seal of biliteracy in Arabic, Mandarin Chinese, French, German, Hebrew, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latin, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and Thai. Students who have earned this distinction will be noted with a special seal on their transcript.

Querbes Scholar: The Class of 2022 is on track to graduate 24 Querbes Scholars. STEM Scholar: The Class of 2022 is on track to graduate 53 STEM Scholars. Cumulative weighted and unweighted GPA’s can be found on the bottom left below senior year courses on each document. In addition, on our transcript we also list any waivers a student received as well as honors designations such as Querbes and or STEM Scholars. Due to the college prep nature of our curriculum, we strongly recommend all of our students on the Common App Forms.
