'Journey With Joseph' Father-Daughter Retreat: Saturday, March 11 'Journey With Joseph' is a great opportunity to create father-daughter memories, escape from the stresses of everyday commitments and schedules and reconnect with your daughter. The Fathers' Club is sponsoring this spiritual walk and retreat for fathers and father-figures with their daughters on the morning of Saturday, March 11. This free event is from 8:30-Noon and the experience will foster an enhanced, special father-daughter bond. If interested, please RSVP by Sunday, March 5 to Mr. A.J. Hyland P'17. Don't miss out on this opportunity to create a special memory with your daughter! Students who participate will receive four wellness credits.

Empathetic Justice," shared Social Studies teacher and Model United Nations club moderator Ms. Lisa Lesh. "The biggest benefit in being part of Model United Nations (UN) is gaining confidence in my debate skills. Before joining Model UN, I had problems public speaking. After gaining debate experience, I am more comfortable with public speaking and having a productive debate with other delegates," stated Abby Bentley '17.

English Students Inspired by Leader Name: Alexis Defreitas '18 Accomplishments: Alexis was inspired to start a GlamourGals chapter at SJA after she was selected to attend the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Foundation (HOBY) conference where she first volunteered with GlamourGals. GlamourGals is a national organization inspiring and organizing teen volunteers to provide ongoing companionship and complimentary beauty makeovers to women in senior living communities. "Giving the residents makeovers, including makeup and nails, helps to not only boost their confidence, but gives them a chance to meet SJA students, share experiences and connect generations," stated Alexis. "There are 30-45 active volunteers who go to the visits. My favorite memory with GlamourGals was our very first visit in September. After giving makeovers, all of the girls and residents danced together," shared Alexis. Activities & Interests: Alexis is involved in Model United Nations (UN), where she has been a delegate and chaired multiple conferences. She has traveled to the Netherlands and to London for

Dr. Schuster and the "Women Leading in the 21st Century" class

Last week, students in English teacher Mrs. Paula Conti's "Women Leading in the 21st Century" class listened to speaker Dr. Janet Schuster. The class highlights women leaders through the ages as well as contributions they have made to society. Students develop skills needed to influence both the local and global community for the common good through studying models and theories of leadership, as well as through exposure to female leaders in Northeast Ohio.

Bishops' Scholarship for Excellence Now Available Applications are now available for the Bishops' Scholarship for Excellence for the 2017-2018 school year. The $3,000 scholarship is available for current Sophomore and Juniors. Applicants must have financial need, complete the application and essay and submit two teacher recommendation letters. College 101 Event: Tuesday, March 14 Are you and your daughter beginning to think about life after SJA? Although it may seem a long way off, College Counselors would like to help you begin thinking about post-secondary options. Parents and students are invited to "College 101," an introduction to planning for college years on Tuesday, March 14, 7-8 p.m. in the Auditorium. No RSVP required. Questions can be sent to College Counseling Department Chair Ms. Susan Emmerich.

Sports Highlights Swimming: Maddy Kelly Earns First-Ever SJA Berth To State Swim Meet Swimmer Maddy Kelly '20 became the first Jaguar swimmer in school history to qualify for the state meet last Saturday at Bowling Green State University. Competing in the district swim meet, Maddy took home a district title and set a personal best and school record

The Jaguars advanced to the district semifinals with a 49-9 win over Lincoln West in the sectional final. The Jaguars jumped out to a 23-3 lead after one quarter and cruised to the win. SJA will take on Medina in the district semifinal on Monday, February 27, 6 p.m. at Valley Forge.

Bridget Fitzgerald '18 and Colleen Neitzel '18 led the Jaguars with eight points each in the win. Molly Neitzel '19, Ellen Vichill '17 and Claire Horansky '19 added six points.
