Hello! Well, now, after a long and forced break we again resume production of our magazine. Business as usual. Cirkumfleks - latin circumflexus (bent around), in different languages, sign is used to select any sound or some object. We chose this name for our magazine, which focuses on different areas of creativity. In today's world of information we all have to face with huge amount of various authors (known and not known) in various areas of art. And we have taken this function on Cirkumflecus. Thanks to all photographers, artists, designers, musicians, and in general all those who sent us their work. They were so numerous, that issue swelled to cosmic size... so we decided on a peculiar step - we split the magazine into two. It turned out as one issue, but two parts. Almost like a novel. As always, we have prepared a collection of music that you can download for free. And for fans of good old punk rock produced a collection of music in this style. It should be noted that we are doing this magazine very selflessly and does not making money on it, so do not judge harshly. And do not forget that all rights to submitted works are those of the authors. we want to thank Alisa Levy for helpung with the translation of several texts. Her photographic work, you all will be able to see in this issue. Halina MroĹźekGraduated from the Faculty of Sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, 2009. Her graduation work Sculpt Couture was awarded the Medal of the Academy of Fine Arts. Won the 1st prize in the international fashion competition Off Fashion Kielce (2010) and the 2nd prize in the international competition Creative Graduate Prize (2009). Her works have been presented at exhibitions, eg at Museum of Contemporary Art MOCAK in Krakow, at the Solvay Centre of Contemporary Art, Galeria Nowa and the Palace of Art in Krakow; at art and fashion festivals such as the Warsaw Art Fair, the Art & Fashion Festival, Off Fashion and Warsaw Fashion Street. They have also been published in Polish and foreign magazines, such as Wysokie Obcasy, Machina, Exklusiv, EksMagazyn, Idoll Mag and Novo Magazine.I graduated in sculpture, since I can remember I was always fascinated by all kinds of space interaction. I consider fashion as a modern kind of sculpture, more demantoid than an independent piece of art, not just a gallery object. What excite, me the most about Sculpt Couture is the fact that those projects, forms cannot be create without thinking about the human body, they live with and depend on it. 1 / 2012

(CIRKUMFLEKS) Magazine
Myles Dunigan is a printmaker and visual artist from Spencer, Massachusetts. Much of his inspiration is drawn from the untamed wilderness of central Massachusetts as well as from the modern ruins of New England. Abandoned factories, decrepit farms, and forgotten houses are monuments to the passage of time, and a focal point for his work. These unsung relics are collected in sketchbooks and subsequently woven into nebulous images where time and space endlessly fluctuate. He attended the Rhode Island School of design for his undergraduate degree, majoring in printmaking. He currently resides in Framingham, Massachusetts, and works in the art department at Wellesley College.

Maria was born in 1981 in Kurgan, Russia. In 1995 Maria graduated from Children’s Art School of Kurgan (under the guidance of Morozov A. M.). In 1998 Maria showed her works on the exhibition “Gifted children of Russia” in Moscow and took the 3rd place in the nomination «Pictorial art and graphics» In 2004 graduated from Kurgan State University, faculty of Psychology, Valeology and Sports. Maria’s works were presented on the Kurgan regional exhibitions of amateur artists in 2005 and 2007. Since 2003 Maria works as the teacher Visual Arts. She also combines teaching with physiotherapy training and heading her own Batik Art Studio for children. In January, 2009 it was organized Maria’s personal exhibition named «Pictorial Arts and Batik». In September, 2010 Maria’s art works, executed in batik, were presented at the exhibition «Teacher’s multi-colored world ». Maria works in different directions: pointillism, symbolism, naive art. Tell me, why did I come to this wonderful world? -What to tell?... this is also a question for me. Let the eyelashes shine only with morning dews. You are source of the river of kindness and heat – Now you know, that’s the right time to come to this world What does the world around me look like? It’s huge, diverse, elusive, restless, but it’s so beautiful nevertheless. Everyone understands beauty in his own way. This feeling is influenced by society, people around you, your relatives. What about me, I'm lucky to have so many wonderful people around me for all of my life. My mother’s care surrounded me as a bright aureole. Mother taught me to appreciate the beauty of every moment and see unusual wonders of every day. I was overwhelmed with the feelings. I didn’t have any words to express it, there are too many lines, colours, images. The emotions crowded and crowded and crowded … and finally they turned into cheerful animals or thoughtful birds. I was wondered by the clouds I was wondered by the sounds I was wondered by the rain Oh, I love those wonderdays! And as Aristotle said: “wondering, is the beginning of philosophizing”. I was tormented by the contradictions. «If there are the works of Monet, Van Gogh and Seurat, what can I bring to this world? And if the feelings flow out to the paper, it should be some reason. Where to go? What to choose? Hanging out on a dirty street or traveling to the world of imagination and living some other life, full of wonders and kindness? The books of Ivan Yefremov opened the door to a benevolent cosiness. The cosiness, that we lack in reality. And I began to create my own world of illusory dream with the people, who don't swear, don't throw garbage through the window, don't offend each other and don't gossip… In my world I could listen to the songs of the wind among the high trees, instead of monotonous "boom-boom" of my neighbors’ speakers.

And everything in this dream was perfect, if only it wasn’t an illusion. But how could I make it real? Let the goodness present in the place, where I am! But what can I do and what’s in my hands? - Tell me, why did I come to this wonderful world? - Tell me why, tell me why? – the guitar echoes, I remember the legend that I heard before: If you want to be strong, hurry up, bring the light, And the answer you’ll find in the eyes that are bright. What could I give? And who would accept it? Who would understand and perhaps carry the trembling fire further? Should I devote myself to the art or give all of my life to children, like many generations of women before me? And it doesn’t matter if they are my own children or not? The remarkable Russian poet Bulat Okudzhava told: «Happiness is to see all the best parties of your personality in your child». I can not change the world. I can't influence the society changes, but I can teach the others to do the things that I can do well! So I decided to be a teacher. Children are very remarkable people. Only children are able to look at the world with kind, naive eyes, they can rejoice and wonder sincerely. I give them all of myself, I lead them through the path of art, I teach them to be careful with their lives, be kind with the others and with themselves… I’m dreaming, that they will find their own harmony and become the real Personatilies. Don’t you know, why we came to this wonderful world? Just to bring to each other the pieces of happiness Just to make our earth to become , And one day both of us would admit just the same: “Yes we came to this world, and it is not in vain!”

In February, when the earth is all white and hollow, in the dead silence of prolonged winter there came a flame in a garden – quite a manifestation of vague hopes to remember. − On that day people who live in the houses nearby the main road thought that my house was on fire, and they immediately called the emergency, − said an old man sitting in his armchair. He looked at a young gentleman and smiled. − They tried to help, you know, those fools tried to help. But in general, they do not care much about those who live in the village almost isolated, − he uttered. − You see, there are only few families here, and at times we feel like we have been trapped here. There is a lot of snow in winter, and it often happens that a postman can not even reach our places and leaves our mail in those main road houses.’ He lit a cigarette. − As a result we get mail a little later, − continued the old man. − Indeed, then I got her letter too late than I was supposed to, and that was the point, − he said, lowering his voice. − You are young, and you don’t even suspect that time might be a great damage – it sweeps away everything, anything that seems to be everlasting and never changing.

The young student looked around. The room they were sitting in was large and high-ceilinged, and the only light was coming from the fireplace. There was a bookcase with a broken glass and it was empty. There was no other furniture. There were no pictures, there was no clock. The boy came to the fireplace to poke the fire, but his attention was drawn to the nearby basket full of blank music papers. He took one of them as if it was a concert or an exhibition brochure in the museum. − What has become of your music? − asked the student. − You made a hit with the public in 19…. You had a great technique and a promising talent. Do you still play? While looking at the fire in the fireplace the old man felt the warmth in his eyes. At that moment one might think he would never care for anything but the fire. − God knows how many years it has been since I last played, − he started finally. − Music is the most powerful of illusions and the most convincing of feelings, − he continued. − Could you please pass me the ashtray, − he asked the student. − You know, art is sheer selfishness, the triumph of vanity – one way or the other, − he continued. − I remember when I was your age my friends and I used to book the tickets for the concerts. I was obsessed with music and passion. I was then in love with youth, with music and with a beautiful woman. After my success in 19… people were expecting something to come next. I was afraid of becoming a one-work artist. It was inevitable that they would compare and judge. The pressure I felt was incredible and I could no longer write. There was no excitement, no things I could feel truly connected to.

− Sorry to interrupt you, sir, but you were so brave, − said the boy. − Everybody would agree your music was special and your talent was obvious.’ − I bet you never heard it, − uttered the old man. − There is hardly a record left. We are always brave and full of passion when we start. It is like being in love. You see it is the same feeling. People applause you, and you know that you are great. All you need is to get that recognition, and then excitement and success drive you mad.’ The old man sighed. − But it is a temporary thing, and eventually it subsides, − he said. He was looking at the fire. − And when it subsided, − he continued, − I decided to walk away and find another place. I kept writing for a while after that. But deep down I was completely transformed and I was pushed to take another direction. A different kind of music was all I needed, but my efforts were in vain. It felt like everything would change around me − I got older, I changed my mind to a wiser one, I changed my clothes, since my old ones no longer fitted me; I found new friends and then there was another woman, but my music was the same. Every now and then a melody would occur and I would think: “Finally! This is it! I can start fresh!’ The old man was imitating his playing on the piano in such a nervous manner that the young student could guess how much excited he was at the moment. − But as soon I started to play what I wrote, − he continued, − I would realize it was the old melody, − he stopped. − I just played it in different pitches and rhythm, − he laughed. − You can use these papers for fire, my child, − he said taking a paper from the basket. − I do not need them anymore.

− The funny thing about it is that I have never played my music for my lovely women,’ continued the old man in a while. − Every time I fell in love, I imagined I would get a new melody and hear a beautiful music.’ He looked at the student. − Are you married? − asked the old man. − Yes, sir, − answered the young boy. − We were engaged as soon as we were born. − Engaged being kids? − asked the old man rising up from his armchair. − Yes, sir, − said the boy. − This is ridiculous, − he murmured stepping to the door. − Then you know nothing about waiting, hope and passion, my friend, − he thought to himself. − You may come tomorrow if you want, − said the old man and left the room. In a while the boy followed him and met a maid in the hall. − Can I help you, sir? − she asked. − Oh, yes, please, I would like to have a look at the piano, − said the boy. − Shh, − said the woman frightened and raising his eyes up to the staircase. − This is impossible, − she continued. − The master burnt his piano last winter in the garden. − I cannot believe it. Mr. Hope could not have done it, − the boy interrupted the maid. − He is all about his piano and music. − I am afraid nobody could explain that. People say that his piano belonged to a woman, but no one actually knew her name, − she said. The young student bit his lips. − I am afraid he did not know either, − said the boy and left the house.

“Flugstellgammut”, a guitar project of Nick Zhuravlyov Gibarian, presents the second album. (His first project with serious minimal experiences with “mini Moog” is the “Mule Cartoon” album). It’s not a secret that a guitar sound constantly develops in sounding, as well as in guitar use as the sound source, and in connection with new guitars, the processors and hi - tech (analogue or digital technologies) the instrument in general can replace on sounding everything. Especially interesting results on the modern guitar scene gives the mixture of acoustics with electro - acoustic instruments and synthesis with electronics.

“Flugstellgammuth” nevertheless adheres to an old guitar school, but still is open to experiments. They do not pursue for drone - ambient frills and fashionable post rock dull progressions sounding at many nowadays as “old words in a new font”. Listening to the album for the first time I expected some minor, ideal as the brick meticulous musical stuff, but was pleasantly surprised by professionalism, mood and first of all presence of live melodic structure, which sounds, of course, not as compositions of coryphaeuses of the Spanish guitar, but still in it’s own way - multilayer, interesting, modern. It is natural that in record there are no samples and loops, everything is a live record with a small post processing and usual guitar synthesizers. Mostly the frightening and medical word ‘experimental’ is also cannot be applied to it, unless in sound areas.

Abstract soundings is maintained on the verge, ambient linings and reverberation are not necessary here, I think, this project nevertheless is aimed mainly on live performances in chamber space, let’s assume some modern gallery, here it would perfectly combine with surroundings and art forms. However, in a player it is also vital in connection with cinema behind a car window or promenade under the city. The drums function is easily carried out by electronic bit, that sounds like a metronome sometimes with a bass groove, nicely shading a Trinity of melodic parties coordinated in floating in space, which reminds the influence and the use of devices on concerts of R. Fripp & Co. and D. Sylvian in the space of B. Eno.

As a whole, the mood and associations from music are a little cosmic. Of course it is not the anthems to heroic pioneers of space, but rather the sounded animations with cartoon aliens hastening, flying, dancing, and surely playing the guitars in the dimension where only a strip of horizon or a sphere which extends indefinitely, so the centre of intersecting co ordinates is only a flying saucer where the small and kind cobalt - green little men play these compositions. And all around are metagalaxies. That’s the scenario I envisaged for their clip. I wish “Flugstellgammuth” new ideas, beautiful melodic drawings and new listeners. Oleg Kirilloff

Yesterday I had a long conversation with Mr. Tempter. We were supposed to meet at nine o’clock in the evening, but he was late for forty minutes. I expected him to be ugly and disgusting, but he appeared to be quite well-dressed and smart-looking young gentleman. He was handsome enough and too attractive in his refinement. He sat down, looked through the menu and ordered regular coffee. – Regular? – I asked surprisingly. − Oh, please, do not be surprised, − he continued. – I am very much alike with an ordinary person. This is because I have been living together with people for many years. He looked right into my eyes and his voice was like an eastern melody. − I have been late, − he continued. – I have been late because one guy promised his wife never go and play cards again, but, you know, I could not let it be true. What do you think I did? As always, I just took him to casino. This time it took me long to persuade him. Anyway, I do not need your excuse at all. − Do you always persuade people like that? – I asked.

The gesture of his hand suggested that he was quite irritated with my reproach. Then he stood up and came to me closer. His movements were slow and charming. He bent over to my left ear and whispered: − This is you, my dear, not me who are responsible for the choices you make. The human heart has enough will to resist those evil propensities. But you must understand that your view is distorted. You think that I bring you principally to bad things. I must tell you before you face with more complicated things in life: people think that I play a game, but, in fact, I measure them by putting them in the most unexpected and tempting circumstances, the most crucial situations which are meant, , to make their happiness. It won’t do to blame me. Then he continued. − This will be enough with questions I think, − he said, − we both know that this is not the reason we have met here tonight. I would like to know your decision. I had no idea what he was talking about. He was keeping silent and his eyes were full of fresh interest. − I have to go now, − he said abruptly. – You know that I do not bear laziness. I saw him stepping straight to the door. My phone rang. I picked it up, and the voice I heard sounded just like an eastern melody I had already heard before.

As an artist with nearly two decades of executive experience in Advertising, it now gives me pleasure to renew my interests in Digital art, and indulge the needs of my creative persona, exploring more of my inner universe. My work is often motivated by my adventures in lucid dreaming, molding my perceptions into general "snapshots" of the dream landscape and other theoretical points of view. The early American landscape painters and explorers are a great inspiration for me, and I see a parallel connection between exploration and the concept of "mapping the interior" of new "territory" and mental realms. Such virtual applications as 3D design are an excellent metaphor for detailing the inner dimensions of perception, and as an artist, I'm endlessly fascinated with the possibilities for fulfillment in this arena. I design my work to convey a comfortable intimacy when viewed as small images, yet they have a commanding presence all their own when viewed at the fullest sizes of their capacity; most of my images exceed 8 feet in width or height. The Mental Landscape is the central theme of my work, the body of the Earth as an eternal stage, viewed from the mind's eye, or the far-reaching awareness of the psyche. 1 / 2012

Bio: Graduated from LASALLE College of the Arts in Singapore, Fariza Strรถmblad is a 25 year old digital artist, photographer and writer. Despite her young age, Strรถmblad has worked with several bands and musicians for commissioned CD cover artwork, inlays and merchandise; she has also worked with makeup artists, made a handful of short films, designed a line of graphic tees and is part of a design collective (DotTiFF). Last year, she collaborated with Norwegian artist Daria Endresen on an artwork called "When Dreams Die". She is currently working on her first book of poetry. I live in Saint-Petersburg, Russia, I'm 25, and I'm not a professional artist. I just have a lot of free time and some feelings to express. All my works are about my inner world; usually I draw some kind of illustrations for never written stories about sad girls in love with monsters. It's all digital, with lot of textures and different brushes. I like to draw some characters again and again, because it seems like we are friends.
