The 30% rise in active members, 25% rise in number of cities and 17% rise in number of total posts are attributable to better awareness of GHAR through postings on main LGBT FB pages of large cities once every three months, word of mouth of current members and increased LGBT organization in these centers. The 13% rise in Offerers may be because GHAR members who were seekers from previous years having found stable housing and now looking for flat-mates in shared accommodation they currently occupy. suburbs on the Central local train line going from CST in Mumbai to Thane, and requests straddle these 2 cities.

Highest gain of % share of posted requirements are in Hyderabad (+2.49), Ahmadabad (+1.32) and Pune (+1.31). These may be due to postings on local LGBT FB page, local renter recommendation which may add to the trust factor and increased LGBT organization leading up to this time.

We account for these based on the name of the first place in the list of areas in the requirement. For example, if ‘Mulund’ is listed before Thane in the requirement, it gets counted as Mumbai. The change in Chennai share numbers are attributable to lack of posting on the local FB LGBT group page and the Mumbai share fall, despite the overall increase in number of postings (+!6) is due to entry of new cities.

Highest % fall of share of posted requirements are in Thane (-3.51), Mumbai (-2.43) and Chennai (-1.29). The Thane fall may be attributable to the “Central line phenomenon” in Mumbai, where typically people request for accommodation anywhere in THE G.H.A.R. REPORT 2014
