Making Care Bags for My Sisters’ Place A Togetherhood Project Togetherhood is YMCA's Signature Program for Social Responsibility. This program invites Y members to lead and participate in volunteer service projects that benefit the communities where they live. By Hannah Blake

My Sisters’ Place works to end violence in intimate relationships and combat the effects of domestic violence and human trafficking on women, men, and children throughout Westchester County.

Families collected items to donate and then brought them to the Rye Free Reading Room to be packaged.

Bags were then made with items from throughout the room based on who was getting the bag. For babies, the bag would get items such as wipes, baby shampoo, and a stuffed animal. For moms, the bag would get items like shampoo, deodorant, and a toothbrush.

All of the items were placed into blue bags, got labels, and a sweet note. Once all the blue bags were gone, the little kids began to decorate the brown bags so that they would be pretty too!

There was a point where the volunteers filled so many bags that the items ran out!

Edison, a member of the committee, said that through community service we can better the community and create balance between those who need and those who have.

Meaghan said that community service is important to her and her family because it is an opportunity to help out people who need it.

There were smiles happening everywhere!

A few days after making the bags, car loads of bags were taken for the people at My Sisters’ Place.

Thank you to My Sisters’ Place for allowing the Togetherhood Project to participate in your cause!

Thank you to the Rye Free Reading Room for allowing us to use their community room!

And the biggest thank you to the volunteers!
