The logo uses overlayed colour effects to emphasise its role as voice and representative for the rights of the entire student body, which is depicted as the circle and repeated pattern. The logo has been designed to be very flexible and can be implemented in many ways.
The pattern is based on brick work, every student at uwe makes up the Student union as does every brick in a wall. The orientation of each “uwesu� has been flipped as each student is different but they are all represented by the Student Union. this pattern would be extremely useful in print medium as it could be used as a background or if there is too much negative space, it will help bring consistency.
Here are some considerations of the bars run by the SU I have tryed some small wordplay including differentiating upper case and lowercase “escaping� the design uniformity, using long type spacing or differing type setting to show literal escape.
As the Bars name is colour orientated I just used this as it ties in well with the brand colours.

These logos rely on basic geometrical shapes & layout. The circle represents focus and is based on a spotlight it takes influence from the notion that the student union is a watchdog and helps flag injustices against students as it is independant from the university. All future logo types would feature the writing inside the spotlight, however “escape� would break away from this mould and feature type outside because of the nature of its name.

Here are some colour variants of the logo, it shows how colour could be introduced into the scheme later on.
Initial ideas I didnt take any further, they take design cues more on the sport related side of the university and student union.
