Literacyin in Modern Modern Foreign Languages Literacy Languages Success in Speaking and Writing in French/Spanish •

In Languages, our KS3 and KS4 classes get more confident in their speaking skill because they are provided with a Pronunciation sheet which helps them with the sound of words. Contributing in choral , individual repetitions and taking part in dialogues in class also allow them to improve in this vital skill which represents 30% of their GCSE exam. Year 7,8 and 9 are also supported in their learning with a vocabulary booklet which contains all the words covered in lessons. This booklet can also be accessed on the VLE from home. On a weekly basis, Year 10 and 11 classes practise their listening skill by completing listening activities from a Listening Pack they have.

Grammar in Languages •

Grammar constitutes a massive part in our teaching because it is the heart of any language. With a good grasp of the grammar, pupils will be able to understand how sentences are built and what makes sentences and paragraphs clear, interesting and precise. Consequently, in MFL, pupils hold a separate Grammar book where rules are written and where pupils can refer to them to be more independent in their learning. Most grammar rules are deduced by the pupils themselves after referring to their first language (English) and thorough analysis of the examples provided to them.

From the start, pupils are made aware of numerous cognates and near cognates which exist in the foreign language and English. This reference allows the pupils to get the gist of a sentence without paying too much attention to details.

Have you ever wondered the origins of English

LITERARY QUIZ………Who said it?????? “The man who does not read has no advantage over the man who cannot read.”

“We read to know we are not alone.”

“Live as if your were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.”

“The beautiful thing about learning is that no one can take it away from you.“

“Literacy is not a luxury, it is a right and a responsibility. "
