Amalgam: A Group Exhibition. Like the very context of the word this exhibition endeavours to combine and display a mixture of artworks from a diverse group of dedicated artists. Just as the artists are an eclectic union, so also are the materials and the range of styles. These works once combined and carefully arranged then form an engaging and cohesive body of work.
Amalgam, also a mercury alloy used for filling emergency cavities in dentistry, represents the nature of this exhibition’s birth… an empty gallery space that due to unforeseen circumstances was in urgent need of filling. This empty cavity was filled and made complete by a consolidation of artists from different styles and disciplines coming together to replenish the empty void.

Mark Skulls
Mark attended ELAM school of fine arts in New Zealand majoring in painting. He now lives and works in London mostly as a bicycle mechanic which sometimes makes its way into his work. Other themes often include sexy girls, skulls, flowers, devils and other rock’n’roll iconography.

Rudolf Boelee Born 1940 in the Netherlands, Rudolf Boelee immigrated to New Zealand in 1963 and has been painting and exhibiting for the past 40 years. He draws the inspiration for his works from various sources including science fiction, magazines, popular culture images and film. Boelee often employs imagery that, while on one level is seemingly prosaic, an alternative meaning or political vision is often suggested or more obviously stated. "Over the last twenty five years I have tried to make work that speaks on a personal and universal level, looking backward and forward at the same time, investigating New Zealand's recent history in relation to the present". Tyrone Layne
Tyrone Layne has come from Auckland, New Zealand to further his audience to the international art market of London following three successful solo exhibitions in his home city. Tyrone paints peopled cityscapes, capturing the diversity of culture London has to offer. Documenting popular culture and fashion as it is today. He is celebrating the people and its architecture in his detailed oil paintings. Tyrone selects his characters from a number of different sources to compose his crowd and composition. Well known faces often find their way into his paintings alongside the normal extra. In contrast to L.S Lowry, Tyrone shows the positive side to life, often masking the harsh realities of urban life, almost like a utopian existence.

Thomas Appleton
Thomas Appleton is a trained craftsman using heritage stone-carving skills and tools that haven't changed since Roman times. He specialises in lettercutting & chutzpah. Appleton creates irreverent wall-pieces in re-claimed Welsh slate. Only working with traditional hand tools, from design to finishing detail - work is drawn with a pencil – letters are spaced by eye - carving is with mallet and chisel.

Louise Dentice Louise Dentice hails from West Auckland, New Zealand and moved to the UK in 2010. Her main mediums are sculptural ceramics and bronze art medals. Her influences are wide ranging from Mayan pottery to surrealist painting. Dentice often use the form of domestic objects, architectural features and birdlife as a basis for her work. Recurring themes are journey, fear and expectation. The work in this show is representative of an intrapersonal cleansing ritual. Idioms relating to the workplace, cleaning or washing are, in cases just detectable in the soap forms, which are unusable - sculpted in plastic compounds and layered with pigments and waxes.

Finn Fair Finn Fair currently resides in London after successfully exhibiting his work in New Zealand for over 10 years. Fair graduated from art school in 2000 and alongside his art career he has also worked in the Alternative Education sector, where he used art practice to help youth at risk. Fair works with a wide range of medium from sculptural, painting, screen printing to digitally manipulated photography. His work consistently tackles social and political issues.Fair maintains that the motive and the message of an art work are equally as important as the visual aspects.

Rose Marie Salmon
The work Rose Salmon makes is in a self-taught medium. Salmon investigates her themes and draws inspiration from a wide range of topics. She intends to discuss tradition in women’s work.
Salmon uses the qualities of the thread to create areas of sharp line juxtaposed with chaotic loose hanging thread, which allows the images to be very formal, and also tumultuous.

Pippa Drummond
Pippa Drummond is originally from Auckland, where she studied Photography and Design, and where her interest panoramic swing-lens cameras began. She has been living in New York City for the last 10 years, and while working in the commercial side of photography, Pippa has continued her vertical panorama series.

Sophie Allen currently works as a freelance photographer, whilst completing a BA (Hons) in graphic design. Originally from New Zealand, Sophie grew up skateboarding and found a passion behind the lens from an early age photographing skateboard culture.
