23163 001 1/18-1/18 U Off Campus Johnston 8/18-1/12 M 06:00PM-07:40PM RWE 2533 Johnston 8/23-1/17 S 06:50AM-12:00PM Off Campus Johnston This course introduces the development and application of key character-building, goal-setting, and team-building skills through the life-changing process of training for a 26.2 mile marathon! The course will be approximately 22 weeks to provide adequate training time. The goal (final exam) of the course: to finish the Rock and Roll Marathon in Phoenix, AZ -walk or run- on January 18, 2015. This course should be the student’s FIRST marathon training experience. Through supportive coaching, accountability of fellow teammates, and weekly discussions, the student will acquire and apply the skills to overcome the barriers to achieve this goal. Successfully training for and completing the marathon will result in the student developing the necessary life-skills (e.g. goal-setting, determination) that is essential for peak performance in school, on the job, and in life. Other Notes: Class will meet Mondays 6-7:30pm for discussion and every Saturday AM at 6:50am for training runs. Course does NOT include the marathon entrance fee nor travel accommodations to / from Phoenix, AZ (estimated travel expenses are $400-$500). Physician approval required before participation in training runs.
