Afterword Singapore's walls are literally littered with countless do's and don'ts, these categorical imperatives leave little room for amour. However, the state's demands and wishes can be as easily read as poetry as well. Since January 2016 I started to jot down or take photos of texts – or snippets of texts – and the above are the notes of two recent visits to Singapore. If one message seems to filter through all these notes, it is one of a cautious optimism as a categorical imperative. After all, one cannot be productive without a sense of caution as well as optimism. But what’s the price of this state sponsored productivity?
