The Rowan & Swarovski Create Your Style Collaboration We have teamed up with Swarovski Create Your Style to create a brand new and sparkling collaboration. Shine is the new range of yarns, designs and tailored crystal packages from Rowan and Swarovski. The concept was born out of a mutual respect between the brands, Swarovski approached Rowan as they felt that our collection of premium yarns would fit perfectly with their stunning crystals to create beautiful hand crafted garments and accessories. With this in mind, we have developed two stunning collections featuring some of our most luxurious yarns knitted with Swarovski crystals. The Daytime Collection showcases pieces suitable for a day out, whilst The Evening Collection features dazzling garments and accessories for a special night out. Further to this, we introduce Rowan Kidsilk Haze Shine; a new take on the ever-popular yarn, adorned with Swarovski crystals. Perfect for embellishments and accessory pieces, the yarn is available in five shimmering shades. Swarovski Create Your Style is a creative community which encourages people to express themselves through personal design. It connects likeminded people and generates inspiration through its crystals, which can be combined with the most diverse of materials, from fabric and felt to paper and, of course, yarn.

Jennie Atkinson Jennie Atkinson has been designing knitwear and exploring texture, colour and shape for over 25 years, with her designs regularly featuring in Rowan Knitting & Crochet Magazines, The Knitter magazine and Vogue Knitting. Her training in fashion design and pattern cutting and the experience of dealing with customers in her bespoke design business has created an understanding of interesting, wearable garments which are designed to fit and flatter. Jennie has also had a long-standing interest in fashion history and studied an MA course at the Royal College of Art in 2005.Research into the history of knitting patterns and fashions from the late 19th and early 20th century are apparent in many of Jennie’s designs today, including her book A Handknit Romance, published in 2012.

Lisa Richardson Popular knitwear designer Lisa Richardson is a name instantly associated with the Rowan pattern house. Lisa joined Rowan in 2003, and, after years of turning her hand to many different roles and tasks as part of the design process, is now a celebrated and well established designer in her own right. Inspired by shape and texture, Lisa’s designs showcase interesting stitch details, unique garment structure and stylish techniques with a classically understated, yet innovative brilliance which is reflected in the global status she now commands. In addition to Lisa’s designer role, she also manages the pattern editing process and mentors newer members of the design team, whilst managing to squeeze in time to enjoy running, climbing, biking, swimming, cooking, dancing and reading. Lisa admits to leading a very busy day-to-day existence, but cites her biggest drive as helping people create something that they will cherish for years to come, demonstrating why she is so integral to the Rowan design process.

Martin Storey Martin Storey was born in Hull and raised on the family pig farm in the village of Beeford on the East Yorkshire coast. Martin was taught to knit as a small child by an inspirational primary school teacher who saw nothing unusual in teaching needlecrafts to boys and girls alike. Martin remembers his early school years with fondness, but his subsequent education at Grammar school proved a stark contrast with Martin struggling to find an outlet for his creative side. After leaving school Martin was unsure of his career path so spent time helping out on the farm and had a short stint at a firm of auctioneers. It was whilst working with his father that Martin was influenced by an art student friend to take on and complete an Art Foundation course. Encouraged by his achievements Martin then went to study fashion at Middlesex University which allowed him to cultivate his interest in hand knitting once more. It was his time spent at Middlesex which became the true turning point for Martin. The design department was a hot bed of the most influential and creative minds of the 1980s and Martin mixed with the likes of fashion designers David Holler and Stevie Stewart – also known as Bodymap – as well as jewellers Dower and Hall. After graduating Martin began working for a knitwear design company, run by Jane and Patrick Gottelier. The company - known as Artwork - became renowned for its use of denim yarn. A 100% cotton yarn which can be washed in the machine and fades gracefully through washing and wearing over time. Martin was involved in creating these sought after signature denim knits which sold all over the world and liked nothing better than designing quirky 3D stitches which would show the yarn to its best advantage. After 15 years Martin left Artwork to become chief designer for the Jaeger brand which was taken under Rowan’s wing in 1995.

Swarovski Create Your Style Design Team Situated in Wattens, Austria, the Swarovski Design Centre Headquarters houses a dedicated team of design and trend managers, which is credited with the fabulous, sparkling designs of Create Your Style. From design research, through to product, textile and jewellery design, the Design Centre HQ fuses creative magic and practicality into compelling designs and inspirational studies. They also boasts a heavy involvement in the process of coming up with new, on trend colours and shapes for the crystal range and are on hand as a technique resource, helping with ideas on how to use the brilliant crystals to maximum effect.
