WELCOME We are thrilled to welcome Christopher Haydon as our new Artistic Director, and with an exciting spring diary on the horizon there is something for everyone coming up at the Rose. For the first time ever, we at the Rose have produced an e-brochure as part of our initiative to cut down on our paper output, and that adds to our other carbon reduction initiatives. In addition you are able to interact with the pages and book directly through this brochure by clicking the ‘Book Now’ buttons. Earlier in the year our marketing team conducted extensive discussions with you our patrons and, taking your thoughts into account, have been working hard to refresh the look and feel of our brand. We are delighted to present the refreshed Rose logo along with our Rose Original Productions brand and Rose Participate scheme which now encapsulates Rose Youth Theatre, Rose Community and Schools & Outreach initiatives. The Rose is celebrating the 2019 festive season with a brand new adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s The Snow Queen. This magical adventure story for all the family brims with music and mischief. Ciaran McConville returns to direct a professional cast alongside members of the Rose Youth Theatre. We have plenty more family fun in spring 2020. For the Easter holidays we’re adapting the muchloved book Giraffes Can’t Dance. Perfect for younger children, this wonderful story encourages children to learn to dance to their own tune. Following a record-breaking world premiere, everyone’s favourite dragon Zog comes roaring back for May half-term in a show based on the book Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler. There’s more Donaldson in February when we welcome Tall Stories’ Room on the Broom. We are really looking forward to Holes following its acclaimed premiere at Nottingham Playhouse. This off-beat comedy adventure for both children and adults is based on Louis Sachar’s multi-award winning novel and the Hollywood blockbuster. An exciting diary of drama begins with the razorsharp comedy God of Carnage from the writer of Art, Yasmina Reza, and starring Academy Award nominee Elizabeth McGovern (Downton Abbey), Nigel Lindsay, Simon Paisley Day and Samantha Spiro. Following 3

on from this, Willy Russell’s classic Educating Rita stars Stephen Tompkinson and Jessica Johnson in the uplifting story of a married hairdresser who enrols in a university course to expand her horizons. We are thrilled that our 2017 Rose Original My Brilliant Friend, based on the novels by Elena Ferrante, transfers to the National Theatre’s Olivier stage from November 2019. Directed by Rose Associate Artist Melly Still (Captain Corelli’s Mandolin) this two-part epic is not to be missed. Breath-taking movement will be taking over the Rose with Ockham’s Razor: This Time in April and the highly anticipated return of Ballet Black in June, who will be presenting a show of sensational solos, seductive duos and fiercely dynamic group pieces. The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra returns in February for an evening of astounding orchestral music including Brahms’ Symphony No. 4. We also have a cracking comedy line-up. Live at the Rose headliner Sara Pascoe is joined by Desiree Burch, Ivo Graham and host Andrew Maxwell. We will also be welcoming the likes of Fascinating Aïda, Adam Kay, Joel Dommett, Rusell Kane and Mark Steel, who are all bringing their latest shows to the Rose. Finally, we are delighted to announce and welcome our new Artistic Director, Christopher Haydon. Christopher will be joining the Rose as our creative lead with the brief of taking us to the next level artistically and financially. Do look out for him as I know he is keen to meet as many of you as is possible. We look forward to welcoming you to the Rose soon.

Robert O’Dowd Chief Executive
