KITESURFBOARDS TECHNOLOGY Classic PU - the real surf feeling The Classic PU construction was developed to create pure surfboards for pure wave riding and to allow control over choppy waters. We have improved the weight and strength of the boards this year. We are now using a pigmented resin. This type of resin fills up the holes in the foam and impregnates the glass fibers less which makes the boards lighter. In addition to the new resin, we have increased the bamboo deck reinforcement area and extended it all the way to 2,5cm from the rail, further back towards the tail, and 9cms towards the nose. The feeling of the classic board is wonderful. The Classic boards have poor fiber memory and poor foam memory at the same time. This poor memory gives our boards a proper surfboard feel. We recommend the Classic technology to the strapless riders because of the forgiving ride this construction provides through its flexibility. Wood - built tough, to last The Wood construction is a totally new technology used to create our boards. It is a very special process created with HDT (High Definition Technology). The boards are molded in one shot. This means that all of the fibers and lay ups are in the mold at the same time. The boards are then laminated with an infusion process. Infusion brings the resin into the mold from the nose and is pulled through the mold towards the tail. By building the board this way, it is possible to use the minimum amount of resin. Less resin makes the board lighter. Because this construction is less labor intensive, it is possible to get a quality board at a fair price. The Wood construction offers full wood on both the bottom and the top of the board(deck). The deck of the board has 90 degrees alignment of the fibers allowing for more flex compared to the bottom. Therefore, our Wood surfboards have a softer flex than most boards on the market that have bamboo. LTD - light as a feather The LTD construction was introduced last year. Built with a lightweight technology that allows flex, control and scooprockerline accuracy. The board is built with a CNC EPS core of 20 kgs/m3 density, then laminated with 200 grms biaxial glass fibers and finished with a 55 grams carbon net over a bamboo stepping deck vacuum glued onto the board at 90° compared to the stringer length so as to avoid excessive stiffness onto the board flex. So this construction is slightly lighter than the Classic, about 300-400 grams, but the difference is not as much the weight, but it is stronger and has the EPS foam core. The EPS core makes the board more buoyant because the foam holds more air. The boards in the LTD construction feel alive, not only because of their light weight, but mainly due to the added floatation. Because of this it is possible to ride a thinner board. All of our LTD’s are thinner and tuned down from the Classic and Wood technologies. These boards were created specifically to ride strapless and are ideal for jumping. They are meant for riders who abuse the board during the landings, but want a lightweight board at the same time that can be controlled at high speeds.

The RRD Rocket is a brand new board for freeriding. This bullet is packed with speed, easy acceleration, early planing, and loads of control. Best suited in the flats, chop, or small waves, this surfboard will get you through those marginal conditions. The Rocket is a short board with a wide nose and tail, equipped with a flat scoop rockerline, more volume in the middle section, and narrow rails. Thin rails and extra floatation make this board excellent for strapless freestyle maneuvers and increases its lightwind performance. Rail to rail directional changes and high speed turns are much easier due to the Spiral V bottom, the deep double concave, and the squash tail. Additionally, the back fins are at a 0 degree angle. This feature enables the board to be suited as a freeride board more than any other boards in the line. Unlike the front fins that are angled towards the nose to keep the nose of the board down, the back fins do not point towards the nose. This ensures that the back fins have no drag and they are truly free. The Rocket can achieve more speed and goes faster, hence the name of the board. The Rocket provides great freeriding performance and is an ideal choice as the first introduction into a directional board. Propel yourself to new heights with the RRD Rocket V1!

The Pop V2 is the perfect stick to use when conditions are not ideal but you still want to ride strapless and practice those new freestyle tricks on flat water or small surf. Light winds? No problem. It’s a pleasure to ride the Pop V2 in light winds because it provides some meat under your feet to plane early. The additional volume under your foot gives you extra floatation that acts as a buffer when you are not an expert at tacking or trying your first strapless jumps. Landing jumps on this board is soft. The wide outline, and our Classic or LTD constructions, ensure forgiveness and durability. This shape is perfect for sticking new tricks and makes for a fantastic time on the water. Inspired by the new mini-maxi surfboards, the Pop was designed around an entirely new outline base with a very wide mid point and a squared nose which increases the floating potential on this super short stick. If strapless airs are your main focus, the very wide but gently rounded swallow/fish retro style tail maximizes the pop potential of this modern freestyle/surfboard shape. A slight tail lift on a very straight rocker line and a kicked nose on a constant scoopline, makes the perfect balance when mixing freestyle with surfing.

The new RRD Spark is in its own program. It blends the Assopigliatutto and the Chiatta to create a unique all-round performer. This combination paired with a COTAN shape, defines the Spark as a premium board that is truly the perfect shape for all conditions. The Spark shines bright during strapless freestyle, provides early planing for incredible light wind performance, and still maintains proper wave riding characteristics in side-onshore or side-offshore conditions. A new collection of surf- and kitesurfboard fins is now available in 4 different sizes S/M/ML/L both for thruster and quad set up. Designed with a thicker profile and built with a stiffer layup and technology than the RR pro model fins, these fins deliver a great amount of drive through a wide base design and the construction combined together. More appropriate for powerful riding and plenty of speed, when precision and predictable behavior is essential. Any thruster set up can be modified into a quad setup simply by buying a rear quad set, using the thruster side fins as the front fins.

The most wanted freestyle board in our range since its introduction. Some still refer to it as “the board with the eye” constantly reminding about its legendary grip, light feel and silly “pop”. Once you use the Poison you immediately fall in love with it. There is something about it that makes it feel just right: The scoop rocker is the same one used on the Infamous Poison V3, constant curve with slightly lifted tip area, but the outline has completely been re-designed. The outline features a totally straight line in the mid 45 cms of the board, creating a perfect area to push hard when trying to edge and go upwind. The tip area is narrowed significantly, increasing top speed and allowing a quicker direction change. All of the necessary elements to increase pop. The re-designed Torsion Box follows the profile of the squared/swallow tips. This tip shape creates a higher angle of attack on the water surface, and increases control. The Poison is an amazing freestyle board. Because some riders need to adjust the feel of the board to suit their specific taste, we have added the new ABS channels into the board. The channels plus the RRD Rad Pads enable the rider to make the smallest adjustments needed to perfect their stance for maximum performance. The Poison V4 defines the new Status Quo of freestyle boards.

The shape is specifically designed along the middle split of the board that is naturally stiffer than a conventional board, and so is the outline. The BS 45 V5 fits in a class of its own. It’s the perfect board to use when the wind is light and the conditions are marginal. Unlike the other lightwind boards on the market, as soon as the wind comes up, there is no need to change the board. The BS45 V5 is made with a constant curve rocker line that keeps the tips of the board high enough on the water to avoid spraying into your eyes and ensures fantastic maneuverability which is what this board is all about. Because the BS 45 was designed with light wind in mind, it has a flatter scoop rocker line and bottom shape. The flatter bottom aids to this boards incredible upwind performance as well as its early planning. Less is more with this fantastic freemove lightwind board. The PRO version has more curve and a slightly deeper concave. This creates a slightly slower board with more pop potential. Additionally, the Pro version will be much easier to maneuver and more fun to ride in higher winds. For larger riders and those who need a lightwind board that absolutely rips, there is no better choice.

The new Rad Pad and strap system was designed to offer the maximum amount of comfort and adjustability, ensuring perfect balance on the board. It was built around an HT Nylon skeleton frame that is molded inside a DUO Density EVA core base. The core base guarantees the correct amount of stiffness, a secure hold, and a firm grip. Equipped with an adjusting system that allows micrometric accuracy in all directions and angles, it is possible to trim the straps position, angle, and size to any desired specifications. Perfect customizations of the stance and foot trim is easy and effective. It is now possible to trim not only according to the length of your foot, but also the height, and thickness. The EVA cushioned pad base is constructed of 3 different densities. The main pad outline is comprised with mid density, the top pad is a softer grip EVA density, and the third density can vary according to the replaceable heel cushioning option. The two replaceble heel cushions are provided with the Rad Pads. The yellow color EVA foam is for lower density and softer heel support (the preferred freestyle choice), the red color pad is for higher density and stronger heel support (preferred freeride or carving choice). ‘The relentless pursuit of perfection’ The Obsession PRO MK3 is our new pure blooded PRO freestyle kite. An evolution of the previous version, the new Obsession Pro MK3 has been refined and was developed with precise input of the freestyle pro team. No compromises were made on the shape and characteristics that distinguish this true freestyle machine. The Obsession Pro is a pure, fine tuned, 5-Line C-shaped kite, designed to be precise, powerful, or very neutral when needed. We did not leave anything to chance and put the entire structure of the kite kite under intense scrutiny. Each individual kite size in the range, from 7m to 15m, has a unique diameter leading edge that allows for the correct speed of rotation. The leading edge is progressively increased in diameter towards the smaller sizes to ensure that the speed and handling of each kite in the range feels the same. This is essential for a perfect execution of all the most radical maneuvers. The outside struts were also moved towards the wingtips to increase the turning potential during kiteloops and add to the stability of the new Obsession Pro MK3. Now that freestyle has reached incredible levels of performance, a kite that not only delivers on/off feedback from the bar, but is also incredibly stable, is necessary. Very thin shaped struts and a thin leading edge diameter not only increased stability but have also saved weight when comparing to the previous versions. The Obsession PRO is designed with a very high aspect ratio C-shape that helps create the perfect de-power rope length. In fact, the whole power range of the kite is within 15-20 cms from the chicken loop, enabling you to have the perfect power control without the need of moving your arms forward. In order for us to suit specific freestylers preferences, we added two adjustment options to the leading edge so it is possible to adjust the bar pressure. Furthermore, when using the kite fully powered up, you can easily un-hook and get a very neutral feel when keeping the kite in the same spot. The super squared tip design helps increasing the turning speed when needed which creates a very precise, predictable behavior in the air. You always know where the kite is without the need of high bar pressure. To finish, each shape of the canopy has been revised and the outer struts were moved closer to the wingtips to improve turning speed. It is important that the kites canopy has the correct amount of tension and the outer struts support the wingtip while the sail is subjected to heavy loads. This kite is capable of stellar loops and huge pop for extreme maneuvers performed while fully powered. The new short Obsession Pro V7 bar is 7 cms shorter than our standard Global bar and is now 48 cms in total width. It comes equipped with 22 mts flying lines only. This is the kite for your serious freestyle sessions!

Now that freestyle has reached incredible levels of performance, a kite that not only delivers on/off feedback from the bar, but is also incredibly stable, is necessary. Very thin shaped struts and a thin leading edge diameter not only increased stability but have also saved weight when comparing to the previous versions. Furthermore, when using the kite fully powered up, you can easily unhook and get a very neutral feel with it when keeping the kite in the same spot. The super squared tip design helps increasing the turning speed when needed which creates a very precise, predictable behavior in the air. You always know where the kite is without the need of high bar pressure. Overall the kite felt amazingly stable while riding and while landing, even on the smaller sizes with no jellyfishing noticed on harder landings. The kite depowers quite well on the landing preventing it from any excessive back stall. The kite was tested with 20m lines and after being around for so long with that size lines we have noticed an evolution on all riders towards 22m lines. This will have an impact on more hang time while doing a power trick or any big air trick. Hardcore freestyle has now evolved into a lot of double handle passes and we think those 2m extra can make a diference on the doubles but will not make the looping of the kite in high winds worst or dangerous. This is a great freestyle machine that will be very comfortable and fun to ride for any freestyler and can surprise a lot of people on how user friendly it is. The smaller sizes are slowed down, cause having the right kite in hardcore wind conditions can really make a difference on being world champion or not and it's where the kite can really help the team rider having advantage over the field of competitors. For sure we can say it's a kite that feels good on you from the first minute.

‘READ WAVES, NOT SLOGANS’ Another big step ahead for our most successful kite in the range, the Religion MK7, synonymous of WAVE in the international kite language. Improving the already successful Religion every year has become a real challenge. Year after year our customers add a new piece to our infinite puzzle and as always, with the Religion MK7, we have succeeded. The new completely redesigned tips allowed us to increase the responsiveness of the kite and create better sensitivity from the bar. Another major change is the reintroduction of the adjustable bridles. The bridles can be easily adjusted for a side-shore or an on-shore wind by moving the position of the bridle between two points. The new adjustments allows the possibility to change the pressure on the bar, the speed of rotation and position of the kite in the wind window. Another strength of the Religion is the super reinforced construction that has always characterized this kite. The new graphics have allowed us to create a new web of reinforcements of Dacron on the canopy that give the whole structure of the kite an incomparable rigidity. A true bullet proof construction that makes the body construction between 40% heavy duty Dacron fabrics and 60% lightweight canopy. A unique mix used only in the Religion kites which creates superior crash resistance and extends the lifespan of the kite. The new Religion MK7 allows for a bigger range of use both on the high and low end of the kite. More power, better lift during jumps, and an enormous progressive depower that will stop the kite power exactly when you need it. Simply put, this kite is a throttle in your hands. Gearing up your rides when you need power and completely depowering the kite while you are on the wave, the Religion is the perfect wave kite. CNC milled and anodized aluminium central bar with oversized oval recesses to improve de-power tube sliding.

THE RRD
With the new launch of the ‘Global Bar V7’, RRD wanted to introduce substantial changes ranging from new and revolutionary ergonomics, favoring more grip in the most radical moves, greater traction control, better security systems to more functionality. But what we definitely didn’t want and/or need to change are the lines. In addition to the new systems, the ‘RRD Global Bar V7’ is still equipped with special lines called "RIGID THREAD LINES". These are used exclusively on the RRD bars with great success for over 6 years. A product that’s now widely tested around the world, but there is little known about the details by kiteboarders. All our lines are produced and developed in Italy, with a worldwide patent granted only to RRD. The ‘Rigid Thread Lines’ are the result of the collaboration with an Italian manufacturing company that has more than fifty years of experience in the processing of textile fibers, using the most recent and innovative exotic fibers, combined with an intimate knowledge of the physical and mechanical properties of Dyneema. WHY ARE THE ‘RIGID THREAD LINES’ DIFFERENT? The differences with our lines is that conventional Dyneema kite line has excellent characteristics of load as well, but suffers from the high temperatures that the horizontal and vertical pull both create, which will make the lifespan of the lines significantly shorter because of wear and tear, while our lines don’t have this problem and have a better resistance to friction. It is also much easier to get knots and/or ‘spaghetti’ in standard kite lines while the ‘Rigid Thread Lines’ are easier to untwist. Last, but not least: the ‘Rigid Thread Lines’ have a great structural memory after tension, so they won’t stretch! This all derives from its molecular structure as well as the gel spinning process, combined with the production process of the fiber. During the development of the ‘Rigid Thread Lines’ we have plotted a new path to take full advantage of the properties of this fiber. The result is a product composed of a soul parallel (unidirectional) and tensioned resin, covered with extremely compacted Dyneema braided fibers. Imagine by comparison the ‘Rigid Thread Lines’ like a widely used electric cable. Core copper wires are covered with a plastic protection sock. In the ‘Rigid Thread Lines’ copper is replaced by unidirectional Dyneema tensioned fibers plus resin, and covered ( the plastic part on the electic cable) with a very thin braided sock with a super fine textured Dyneema. This allows to create an absolutely direct connection between the bar and the kite, since what connects them is uninterrupted, without having any braided structural fibers, which is a classic solution found on all other lines existing on the market. The ‘pop-effect’ is drastically increased when you use ‘Rigid Thread Lines’, considerably improving the performance of the kite during wakestyle manoeuvers. The ‘Rigid Thread Lines’ of RRD Kites will never be subject to adjustment, since they won’t even stretch under stressrelated moves, for example by extreme loops or other radical manoeuvers, and consequently it is impossible to end up with stretched lines and/or of a different length and therefore the trim of the kite remains unchanged through the years.

The ‘Rigid Thread Lines’ will always be visually, technically and feeling compact and rigid throughout the course of their lives, maintaining all its physical and technical characteristics unaltered over the time. The standard braided kite line has more stretch, which resuLTS in different line lengths, power absorption and reduction of performance, especially at the moment where you change the direction of the kite, where the load of the lines reaches its peaks. Another weakness of the standard braided line that ‘Rigid Thread Lines’ have turned into a strength are unchanged compactness of the line. Any new conventional line, has a rigid and compact character because of the resin (generally polyurethane-based) that encompasses it. This resin has a very short life and after only a few sessions, the touch of the product is softer. This translates into a series of annoying consequences such as: • The softened lines are more subject to unwanted knots. • The protection of the line is reduced after each session. • The braid tends to open and it becomes more fragile, allowing the entry of water which will create small salt crystals inside in case you kite in salt water, which can impair the bearing structure of the line. WHY ARE RRD KITE LINES INNOVATIVE? Unlike standard braided lines, the unidirectional structure of ‘Rigid Thread Lines’ provides a fiber memory that is significantly more efficient. A standard braided line under stress combines all 'dynamic elongation’ of the fiber and flattening of the braid, whereas the core unidirectional structure uses exclusively the elastic modules of the fiber.

The new Trainer Kite is designed and built to introduce kiteboarding to everyone. Easy to re-launch, stable and safe. Available in sizes 1,7 for high wind areas and 2,4 sqmts for lighter wind areas. The new HP1 pump is a multiple inflating system pump that can act in two modes: Mode 1 or HIGH CAPACITY mode, or double action mode of 2,3 +2,3 LTS where you can inflate your kite from 0 up to 8 PSI of pressure. Mode 2 of HIGH PRESSURE mode or single action mode of 2,3 LTS, where you can pump up to 13 PSI of pressure. ( maximum inflating pressure on your kite should be 8 PSI) The mode 2 is recommended only for kids of lightweight girls in order to help inflating their kite up to 8 PSI of pressure requiring less power on their arms. A new color coded pressure gauge simplifies the pressure reading and helps inflating your kite correctly. The new softer plastic hi tenacity corrugated inflating tube helps storage inside the kite bag without folding and breaking and has a longer lifetime compared to standard tubes in the market.
