Lime Kiln Theater

Founded in 1983, this unique outdoor theatre in historic Lexington, Virginia, presents the unusual setting of the ruins of a 19th century lime quarry and kiln. Lime Kiln’s most popular and enduring musical, Stonewall Country, based on the life and times of Lexington’s own Civil War hero, General Thomas ‘Stonewall’ Jackson helped put Lime Kiln on the map. It ran for 20 years, bringing in thousands of people to Lexington and then it had its final curtain call in July, 2004. Stonewall Country is back and this new concert version starring the original songwriters, Robin and Linda Williams is a must see. Dinner is at the Southern Inn restaurant, a Lexington landmark. The seats in the outdoor venue are wooden benches with backs, please consider bringing a seat cushion. Fee includes theatre ticket, dinner, transportation & escort. T’ai Chi

T’ai Chi Chaun is an exercise consisting of slow, relaxed movements that help us develop internal and external balance and harmony. The moves are practiced in a slow controlled fashion that builds strength as well as balance.T’ai Chi Chaun requires mindful concentration similar to meditation. The slow rhythmic movements relax the body and clear the mind. The movements are done with a feeling of buoyancy and lightness as if swimming in air. Another important aspect is the positive effect it has on circulation and stimulating blood flow to the organs. Programs at Brambleton Center are taught by April Ackerman and last 12 weeks. Program at Hollins taught by Denis Spencer and lasts 8 weeks. Ages

Park Partners is designed to promote partnerships between neighborhood groups, businesses, schools, churches, organizations, clubs and associations. Partnerships promote community involvement, improve park facilities and grounds, and result in greater park use and enjoyment. This program encourages citizens to volunteer their time and talents to the maintenance and improvement of the County’s parks, trails, and greenways. Your commitment to the program is a minimum of two years. Suggested maintenance may include removing litter, pulling weeds, painting, mulching, planting and general debris pick-up and removal at regular intervals throughout the year.

Construction is underway on Roanoke County’s new Green Ridge Recreation Center, which will feature an aquatics area, wellness center, walking track, basketball courts and plenty of space for your favorite recreation programs for all ages. Attached to the center will be a 20,000 square foot outdoor water park called “Splash Valley”, with two water slides, a current river, a childrens’ sprayground, zero depth entry and much more! So whether you’re looking for group exercise, camps, aerobics, athletics, music, dance, swimming lessons, arts & crafts, or just plain “having fun” - there’s a place for your family at Green Ridge Recreation Center. See page 27 for a sneak peak inside!
