The Faculty of Performing Arts Programme of Events 2018-2019

I

am delighted to introduce the Performing Arts programme for 2018-19. This coming year is an exciting time for the Faculty as we look forward to moving into our new Faculty building during this academic year. There we will have dedicated state of the art spaces for dance, drama and music, and I look forward to welcoming you to performances there in 2019-20. Having specialist training spaces for our successful production arts courses will also support the work of those talented students who work tirelessly ‘behind the scenes’, designing lighting, set, costumes, hair and make-up. I never cease to be amazed at the incredible amount of support parents and guardians give the Faculty - by helping out, bringing girls to and from rehearsals at weekends and by attending our performances throughout the year. I hope to see you at our informal rush-hour concerts, new ‘Plays in a Term’, large-scale productions and events and professional masterclasses throughout the year. I look forward to seeing you at events during the coming term.

Mr D. Hyde, Director of Faculty

Extra-curricular Activities in the Faculty of Performing Arts

The Faculty runs a variety of activities to cover all interests. For musicians, we have a number of auditioned and non-auditioned choirs (RMS Chorus, RMS Voices, Chapel Choir and Choro), orchestras (RMSO and Sinfonia) and other ensembles (Rock Bands, Flute Groups, Guitar Ensemble, Concert Band, Big Band and Percussion Group). For Dancers there is our own dance company, Fusion, which not only rehearses each week and performs in school productions, but goes on trips to see some fantastic examples of professional dance. Actors can join ‘Thesps’, which explores different texts, activities and drama styles and also works towards productions. There is also a junior drama club run by our Sixth Form students. Performers can also take part in Community Arts which travels outside of school to local residential homes and the prestigious yearly appearance at the Royal Hospital, Chelsea for the Chelsea Pensioners. For students, staff and parents there is the RMS Community Choir. For more details, email rmscomchoir@live.co.uk. Further details of all Senior School activities can be obtained from Mr Hyde, Director of Faculty, or Mr Werner, Head of Music. Cadogan House also has a wide-range of activities, including (but not limited to) choirs, String Orchestra, Wind and Brass Ensemble, Flute and Guitar Ensembles and Rock Band. More information can be obtained from Ms Gee, Head of Music, and Ms Espinoza, Teacher in Charge of Performing Arts.
