General Information

Join us in Charlotte, as we Turn the Page to a new era at Narrow Brook Shorthorns. We have continued along the path of breeding cattle that have a show ring appeal, but most importantly our true focus has been on producing cattle that have staying power. The only way to get staying power is concentrating on conception rates, calving intervals, feet and leg structure and forage conversion. Combine all these traits and the cattle earn their right to stay around. Our most satisfying accomplishments are how well the NBS prefix excels in other herds and environments. We have diversified over the years as well, putting a focus on the Shorthorn plus program and bringing in some Hereford genetics to round out our portfolios. Call us or any of our representatives if you have questions as you turn the pages.

It’s been a pretty lengthy hiatus since our last production sale, so we wanted to start this sale with our best. Katmandu is a full brother to Frazier, whose progeny will debut today. Actually, two other sons of 36A have progeny in the sale as well. Her consistency of producing herd sires has been amplified with Katmandu. He is her highest performance oriented son, and carries himself so fluidly when in motion. His three dimensional prowess makes him a truly unique beast. We are offering possession and 50% semen interest, but if you wish to double the gavel price you can own 100%.

This fancy red heifer has been a favorite among our calves this year. Its hard to find a calf that is so freaked necked and smooth shouldered all while not giving up any power and width from behind. She’s a female that is extremely sound structured that demands her presence when you see her. The Rosemary cow family was the first of two cows that started our herd and 15 years later this heifers great grand dam which also happens to be our matriarch cow is still roaming the pasture today! THESE FEMALES STAND THE TEST OF TIME! THF/PHAF/DSF through pedigree

Lot B is a bred heifer that represents calving ease at its best. These calves hit the ground with vigor to spare. Bred to Final 4, due 3/12/21.

She weans them off heavy every fall as well - her calves have logged many miles, going to Tennessee and Oregon. She is carrying the service of Frazier this year...wow is what comes to mind when I think of next years calf.

Double dose of Daphne. Jane Mary will be that model cow if she is anything like her mother. Great from the ground up, moderate framed, beautiful udder and an easy keeper and breeder. Once again, I don’t mean to dismiss her show career but inevitably she will spend more time in the pasture versus the show ring. Ask Cory Schrag how well the Jane Mary’s hold their value.

2020 has been a year of great loss with the passing of the matriarch of the Miller family in August - my mother, Betty. Followed by the loss of our good friend, Vic Parker, who lost his battle with cancer a few weeks later. We have been working with Vic over the years as a cooperator herd and willingly offered to disperse his cow herd for his daughters. The pregnancies we are offering are in recips from the Parker program. You will have many opportunities here, as Vic’s program was very diversified. These cows have been bred for stayability like our cattle as well as with a goal in mind to produce high quality steers and heifers for his granddaughters in future years. Tie into these genetics, as they are only available in this dispersal.

We feel our steer offering is “Like a Rock this year! These guys, and a few more, are available private treaty at the farm until the sale and any remaining steers will be sold at the end of the sale. Only because our Michigan Points Kick Off Show is the same weekend as our sale did we decide to keep them available but we are confident they will be highly competitive where ever they land. Give Matt or Tara a call to discuss.
