Shyla Huffman Family HOME: Mtn. View, MO

(Howell County)

When we agreed to foster a 9-month-old

baby girl we never imagined how much love and TLC she would need. We instantly fell in love with her, with that first smile. All those smiles and looks of adoring love made up for all the sleepless nights spent at home and in the hospital. Shyla was a micro-preemie with C.P. and lung issues that should have resolved with growth. Unfortunately, the C.P. and lung issues have only become worse resulting in numerous hospital stays. By age 4, the adoption process was complete, but the illness, surgeries, and hospital stays were still ongoing. Having the Ronald McDonald House available to us has been a blessing. The day services that are available help make a sad hospital stay more tolerable. The ability to wash clothing and take a shower mean a great deal to a parent with fatigue and multiple emotions due to a struggling child. The food that is always available for free helps take the sting out of a lengthy hospital stay. The volunteers for RMH are such wonderful kind people. This last Christmas was spent in the hospital away from the rest of the family, but there were the volunteers also spending time away from their families for us! That made me feel blessed during a low time. A huge thank you to all those involved with the Ronald McDonald!
