Sexton Family Home: Kimberling City, MO (Stone County)

In December of 2016,

at 23 weeks pregnant with identical twin boys, I was admitted to the hospital for a surgery called a “cerclage” to hopefully keep our babies safe inside my womb until their due date in March 2017. Unfortunately, although this surgery was “successful”, my water broke 12 hours following the surgery, mandating that I remain on a very strict hospitalized bed rest for the remainder of my pregnancy. Thankfully, I did not go into spontaneous labor (which is what usually occurs following amniotic sac rupture), but remained pregnant, becoming stable enough for discharge to the Ronald McDonald House in January 2017. There is hardly a way to describe how much the Ronald McDonald House blessed our family during this incredibly difficult time. Instead of lying on an uncomfortable hospital bed in a sterile environment for weeks on end, I was welcomed into a warm and cozy room with a comfy queen bed and oversized recliner, complete with my own private bathroom. I was served delicious home cooked meals by generous people who came every single evening. The kitchen was always well stocked with snacks, coffee, leftovers, and delicious treats in order to make the long days on bed rest more bearable. My husband and 2-year-old daughter were also able to come and visit me in the comfort of a home-like environment where a playroom bursting with toys kept our daughter entertained for hours. Our family, including our unborn baby boys, were lavished with gifts, not only at Christmas, but also throughout the 8 weeks during my stay there. As we look back on those incredibly hard months full of unknowns and medical difficulties, one thing that was a saving grace during that time was the blessing of staying at the Ronald McDonald House. It alleviated so much stress from an already very stressful situation and gave us the respite that we desperately needed every day. The Ronald McDonald House was an answer to prayer for our family and will always hold a very special place in our hearts.
