FALL/HOLIDAYS 2021

25th Annual Cup O’Cheer

If there ever was a year when we need a Cup O’Cheer … With safety being our top priority, we celebrated the 25th Anniversary of Cup O’Cheer this year with a “Tea Party At Home”. The tradition of Cup O’Cheer has brought us all together for 24 years on the Friday before Thanksgiving. We’ve gathered with treasured family and friends to tour beautiful homes decorated for the holidays; enjoyed Holiday Tea with desserts and savory treats; collected commemorative teacups and saucers created especially for Cup O’Cheer by Obelisk Home; shopped from our contributing vendors and silent auction; and most importantly, spent uninterrupted time with special people in our lives. Although we could not hold an in-person event for the second year in 2021, we had a great time seeing everyone’s photos and hearing stories as guests partied from home with their Tea Party in a Box! Tea Parties included those well-loved teacups and saucers, a Mason jar cookie kit with the recipe provided by Simply Delicious, custom Cup O’Cheer napkins, and a create-it-yourself holiday ornament kit. If you missed getting yours, teacups and saucers are still available for purchase. Although our plans had to change, our mission remains the same. We encourage all of you who support the Ronald McDonald Houses and Tooth Truck through Cup O’Cheer to consider RMHC in your holiday giving plans. Your gift will help us continue to support our families during this challenging time. Make your donation or get your 2021 teacup and saucer online at RMHCozarks.org/events/ cup-o-cheer or by calling 417.875.3505. We are hopeful by November 2022, we will have a safe way to be together again and carry on the in-person tradition of Cup O’Cheer.

Red Shoe Gala On October 8, friends of Ronald McDonald House Charities kicked off their red shoes and partied on their own for the 7th Annual Red Shoe Gala. The evening included music, mission, and fun, as we provided an on-demand playlist featuring Star Search Grand Champion Jake Simpson; a drivethru pick-up event with catering from the White River Conference Center; centerpieces generously donated from The Flower Merchant, Schaffitzel’s and

The Nest; and wine and party favors. Although we couldn’t all be together, we had a great time raising funds to benefit Springfield’s two Ronald McDonald Houses and the Tooth Truck (our Ronald McDonald Care Mobile) through sponsorships, the “Shoebox Surprise,” and the Adopt a Family program. Thanks to the generosity of our community, over

Adopt a Room and Heart Our 8th annual “Heart the Houses” Campaign is underway! Record Year for our

5th Annual Red Friday! On September 10, Springfield’s 5th Annual Kansas City Chiefs “Red Friday” started at 6:00am at 54 McDonald’s Restaurants in the Ozarks and Hy-Vee in Springfield. In addition to being a rallying point for Chiefs fans, the event is a chance for the community to make a difference in the lives of local children and families through sales of limitededition Chiefs flags all to benefit

our two Ronald McDonald House programs. Ronald McDonald House volunteers were a significant part of Red Friday’s success by giving their time to wave flags and be ambassadors for our organization. It is because of the efforts and support of volunteers, McDonald’s crews, and our giving community that

we had a record year in flag sales, raising nearly $74,000 for Springfield’s two Ronald McDonald House programs! We can’t thank all of you enough for your efforts and supporting our Houses through Red Friday. Go Chiefs!

PCCC

Supporters of the Price Cutter Charity Championship presented by Dr Pepper recently gathered at the annual Celebration of Sharing to honor and observe the gifting of a record $1,007,211 to 52 Ozarks childrens’ charities. Of those proceeds, our Ronald McDonald House programs were the proud recipients of $49,250 this year. We are so grateful for the tremendous support the Price Cutter Charity Champion presented by Dr Pepper continues to show our Houses. Over the last 32 years, the PCCC has contributed nearly $1.4M to Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Ozarks, helping us continue providing a “home-away-from-home” for families of hospitalized children when they need hope and comfort the most. Our special thanks to Price Cutter, the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame, our dedicated volunteers, and the many community members who purchase TLC Properties Sweepstakes Tickets on behalf of our organization.

Upgrade to Mercy

Laundry Center! We have a beautiful Laundry Center at the Ronald McDonald House at Mercy Kids and continue to be grateful to Tyson Foods for their sponsorship during our building campaign in 2012. We’re excited to announce we will be receiving an upgrade to the venting for our dryers, as well as brand new dryers! During the construction of the Mercy House, self-ventilating dryers were the best option for the House’s location inside Mercy Hospital at that time. Although the drying time for these dryers is much longer than conventional dryers, it’s been such a blessing to have this service for our families. Earlier this year, we reached out to Mercy Hospital to ask for their help in exploring options to decrease the drying time by upgrading our system. We were thrilled to learn a ventilated system might be a strong possibility. In September, Lewis Smith, HVAC and Facilities Manager at Mercy Hospital, and his team submitted a project proposal including design, permitting, construction, equipment, contingencies and even four new dryers for approval. We are happy to say that the project was approved for funding by Mercy and construction will begin in January 2022. We are so incredibly thankful to Mercy Hospital for so generously helping our future families in this way. It is through our continued partnership and support we are able to serve families with a child receiving care inside Mercy Hospital. Thank you for your ongoing help and support!

Around the Houses Pillow Donation In November, we received 126 luxurious memory foam pillows as a donation from our friends at Simply Sova – enough to fully furnish all of the bedrooms at both Houses. We are so thankful for their donation and ensuring our families have a soft place to rest their heads after a long day.

Thank you, Brenda!

Brenda Rosebrough has been a volunteer at the Cox House since January of 2019 where she has served over 500 hours! She was honored with the

Loniel B Ford Award for Excellence in Volunteerism in 2020. In September 2021, she offered even more support by accepting a temporary position of Program Assistant to help during our Associate Program Manager’s maternity leave. Mission Moment Over the past several years, the Woodard family has collected and donated several items to the Ronald McDonald House at Mercy Kids. Over the course of the year, they collect several wish list items and donate them. Every fall they make the 3-hour drive from Alma, Arkansas to bring their donations and then make a weekend out of the trip. The Woodard family stayed at the Mercy House from June to August 2018. Their stay at the House inspired this yearly donation as a way for the family to show their support and gratitude for our organization.

The Tooth Truck staff wants to show our patients going to the dentist can be fun and there is no reason to fear. They get to experience many different things while on board. Here is a child’s eye view of a visit to the Tooth Truck. The Tooth Truck parks right outside their school so often they mention seeing it when they arrived to school that morning. It’s always entertaining to hear what they think it will look like on the inside. Once seated in the dental chair, our staff likes to start off taking pictures of their teeth, aka dental x-rays. To reach the camera, we need to raise the chair up high then kids get to watch the photos pop up on the computer screen, which they think is pretty cool. Next, we need to brush and floss. The chair lays back until it’s flat like a bed and we need a bright light to shine down on their teeth so we can see every area of the mouth. Kids get to wear sunglasses during this part while they listen to the dental assistant talk about how often they should be brushing and areas where they need to do a better job of brushing. Staff will also show them the proper way to floss to ensure they are keeping the space between their teeth nice and clean. Once everything is clean, Dr. Sarah will review the x-rays then complete the dental exam. She will note any areas with decay that need to be repaired and/or where sealants are needed to protect healthy teeth. After fluoride has been applied, it’s time to sit up and come to the main area to select an item from the prize box. The last steps are to get a goody bag and paperwork to take home so their family knows we saw them and if any additional appointments are needed. They’ll get to come back in the next few days to complete any restorative work so we can get them cavity free. In approximately thirty minutes, we have their teeth cleaned and are walking
