Hickman Family HOME: Blue Eye, MO (Stone County)

At 31 weeks, my wife unexpectedly went into

preterm labor. Though they were able to stop the contractions, this set the pace for a very stressful end to a difficult pregnancy. Shortly after the preterm labor, she started having strong and consistent contractions. We were told we had to stay within 15 minutes of the hospital for fear she could start a very quick labor at any time. We were devastated. We have two other children who were three and five at the time, I was working two jobs, and we live over an hour away. We had heard of the Ronald McDonald House, but we didn’t know very much about it and had no idea what to expect. The beautiful facilities, kind staff and other guests moved us to tears on several occasions. They provided us a room to stay in, laundry machines, a complete kitchen to use anytime we wanted, and a hot meal every night. They took a terrifying situation and made it so much easier on our entire family. We will always be grateful for their kindness and generosity! Our twin girls, Amelia and Isabella, are both 3 years old now. They love running around with their big sisters and their dogs, and they thoroughly enjoy going to their big sister’s basketball games! The girls find them very fascinating. As a family, we all enjoy going camping together.
