“His name! We prayed before we even knew what to call him. We knew he would be a gift. We knew he would be a fighter. We knew he would be loved.” - Kayla Samuel was born at 35 weeks and 6 days. Mom, Kayla, was diagnosed with placenta previa at 20 weeks, so the family was aware that he would be small and likely require a NICU stay. The Gaston family lives 90 miles away in Houston, Missouri. Unfortunately for the Gaston’s, this is not their first stay at a Ronald McDonald House. Kayla shares her story: “This is the second time I’ve needed a “home-away-from-home,” but the first time in Springfield. I had a month long stay at RMH St. Louis while waiting for my first daughter’s heart transplant. Unfortunately, that never came. Hearing the words, “You have an open room at RMH”, gave me a little PTSD since I didn’t get to bring my daughter home with me the last time. This stay was much different. The room was so cozy. We had privacy and remained close to the hospital. The check in process was so smooth. We are so thankful for RMH and would love to serve in some capacity in the future for other families.
