Abbey Family HOME: Willow Springs, MO (Howell County)

Erika and Travis Abbey were

expecting twins through in vitro fertilization! To their surprise, Erika’s water broke on December 28th at only 20 weeks, and she was admitted to Mercy Hospital with the goal to remain in-patient until she was 34 weeks along. However, on March 21st, Erika’s umbilical cord prolapsed and she needed to have an emergency C-section. She gave birth to Tobias and Bodhi Abbey at 32 weeks. Erika and Travis stayed at the Ronald McDonald House while the twins continued to develop. The Abbey family is familiar with the House, as they stayed for several weeks in January of 2019 while their daughter, Emersyn, was in the NICU. Erika says the House has been a great resource for their family because they are able to focus on their twins without worrying about planning their meals or lodging. They highlighted how the staff are always available if they need help, and how they appreciate knowing they are always close to their children. Erika says that while the House is not their own home, it still feels like home. During their stay at the House this year, they have been staying in the same room as they did back in 2019! Erika stated, “This really made it feel like a ‘home-away-from-home’.” Emersyn has grown into a spunky little girl. You could never tell her first few weeks of life were spent in the NICU. Bodhi has now been released from all of his specialists. He is such a happy boy and always smiling! Tobias loves interacting with his brother and sister and is also doing well since leaving the NICU.
