RECTANGLEJAUNE

City Break RJmag fell in love this season! Indeed we are all under the spell of Villa Clara, this charming little boutique hotel in Mar Mkhayel. Just like Marie-HÊlène & Olivier Gougeon were, when they saw this 1920 typical building. What would a talented French chef and a Doctor in business and marketing do? Rise to the occasion and transform it into their lifelong dream!

Paint Up! Dihzahyners is an NGO that was founded a year ago, when a team of LAU graduates and friends teamed up to create the first "Paint Up" initiative to bring color and brightness to the streets of Beirut. Since then, their work has been reviewed in the international press and all over the planet's design blogs. As color addicts, we particularly love those striped stairs in Mar Mkhayel! Stay tuned to facebook.com/Dihzahyners if you want to know more about them and their next events.

Beach Volley

Sexy and fun, Beach Volleyball was created in California in the 1920s, and is now part of the Olympic summer games.

But there's more to it then swimsuits and sand; we have prepared a little guide to help you read the hand signals that players secretly use, so you can become an RJ champ!

Beach Volley: Do you read the signs?

Beach volleyball players hand signals are a vital part of communication for the game. While many players have their own signals, here is a guide to the most commonly used ones.

Two fingers pointing down can mean a cross court block on both players. 38

This signal can mean a line block on the person receiving on the right side as the blocker faces the net. Cross court block on the left side.

A closed fist means no block on all players.

BeachGEAR

Two fingers pointed downward mean a line block on both attacks. So if they serve either player, the blocker is going to cover the line attack and the back defender covers the cross court attack.

Players use their thumbs to show their partner which player they'd like them to serve to. Open hand means block the ball and you defend around my block.

This signal means a cross court block on the right side, line block on the left side.

A closed fist on the right side means "no block" on that player attacking from the right. 39

RECTANGLEJAUNE

the heat of the moment By Adriana Lebbos

Summer lovin’, happened so fast… Summer lovin’, had me a blast…well most of us know the rest, but really that first part, is all that matters. To say the least, summer flings are…impulsive. They’re intense and most of all they’re hot… literally, it’s summer!!! Unlike winter love, summer lovin’ is meant to be spent outside in the sun, meeting new people, day drinking, running, jumping swimming…you get the point, it’s not the cuddle me to stay warm kind of relationship, or it’s too cold to dance on the rooftop kind of love. So what’s with the timing? Easy! First, people look better in spring/ summer. All people. It’s just a fact. Men are hotter, women are sexier. People have spent the spring getting fit for the beach or working off their winter weight. The result? less clothing and better looking people. Second, there are more places to go and more people to see…go there, see them. There is nothing better than traveling, outdoor brunching and just generally soaking up as much vitamin D as possible while surrounded by fun people. Though, if it seems too good, it’s probably because it is. Like I said, summer makes everything look better… (or you’re drunk from brunch still). In almost all relationships you have someone who is just a bit more invested in it than the other. When dealing with a summer fling, this can only work if both parties are in a place to bring the relationship over into fall follies or winter love if not…things could get messy. They’re called summer flings because they’re meant to be just that. So, to cut it short, winter is for snuggling up with someone you love while summer is for getting it on with someone hot you met on the beach! Now let’s get out there people and find our summer fling!
