CITY OF BAYONNE HOSTS FIREWORKS,CONCERT AND CHILDREN’S ENTERTAINMENT

Mayor Jimmy Davis announced that the City of Bayonne’s Independence Day Celebration will be held on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, at the lower level of DiDomenico-16th Street Park, beginning at 6:30 pm, weather permitting. (There will be a rain date of Sunday, July 9.)

On July 5, there will be plenty of attractions for both children and adults.

Free children’s inflatable rides will be available from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The rides will be stationed in the old amphitheater, which is located at the southeastern corner of the park’s lower level.

Parkway Soul will perform at 7:00 p.m. An Earth, Wind and Fire Tribute band, Parkway Soul plays pop and soul music. The group is based

in New Jersey. They will play at the municipal amphitheater, which is located at the southwestern corner of the lower level of the park, near Newark Bay.

The fireworks are scheduled to go off at approximately 9:15 p.m. The fireworks show will run for about 30 minutes.

Chairs will not be provided for the fireworks and the concert on July 5, due to the expected size of the crowd. Spectators are asked to bring their own chairs on July 5 and on future concert dates. A limited number of chairs will be provided at later concerts this summer.

Food vendors will be located in the parking lot. A buffer zone will be created in the park and the bay for residents’ safety.

Only authorized people will be allowed inside the buffer zone. No pleasure craft in Newark Bay will be permitted within a perimeter of at least 500 feet from the launch site, as per the U.S. Coast Guard. The Fire Department will have a boat in the bay during the show.

The Bayonne Recreation Division is providing free shuttle bus service for the event and will pick up passengers at East 24th Street and Church Lane. This location is near two parking lots: Parking Lot 6 (behind Archie’s Cab) and Parking Lot 7 (behind Valley Bank). Shuttle bus service will begin at 6:00 p.m., and will drop off passengers at the lower level parking lot alongside the tennis courts until 8:30 p.m. Following the fireworks, at approximately 10:00 p.m., the buses will pick up passengers at the same area for the return trip to East 24th

Street and Church Lane.

Shuttles will continue to run until all passengers have been returned to East 24th Street and Church Lane, by approximately 11:00 p.m.

To provide space for the shuttle, parking will not be allowed in a designated bus area between 6:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. Signs will be posted in the designated no parking area.

The boat ramp on the lower level of the park will be closed to boats for the entire day and the boat ramp parking lot will be available for public parking.

The main parking area on the lower level of the park will be closed to the general public after 7:00 a.m. No parking will be allowed by the firing range on the upper level of the park.

On West 16th Street, between Avenue A and the park, no parking will be allowed on either side of the street after 6:00 p.m. Signs will be posted. The signs will be removed around 10:00 p.m. as the event ends. Police will create a single lane for traffic on that portion ofWest 16th Street for crowd control purposes.

Municipal Pool on the upper level of the park will follow regular operating hours on July 5, opening at 10:30 a.m. and closing at 5:00 p.m., weather permitting.

The basketball courts on the lower level of the park will close at 2:00 p.m. The park’s regular bathrooms will be closed for the event. Portable toilets will be available. Both regular and handicap facilities will be provided. If it rains on July 5, and if conditions allow it, the fireworks, concert, and entertainment would be rescheduled for Sunday, July 9. The same times and procedures announced for July 5 would apply to July 9, if the rain date needed to be used. If the rain date were to be utilized, the City of Bayonne would issue the appropriate announcements. In the event of inclement weather, please call 201471-7590 after 4:00 p.m., or visit www.bayonnerec. com, or view the city’s Facebook page to check on the status of the fireworks and concert. For further information, please contact Pete Amadeo at 201-858-6129 or email BAYONNEREC@ AOL.COM.

Art House Grand Opening - Ribbon Cutting Ceremony July 13, 2023

For the past 21 years, Art House Productions has been building toward this important announcement: The Grand Opening Ceremony of Art House Productions’ performing and visual arts center at The Hendrix will be held on July 13, 2023 at 2:00pm, 345 Marin Boulevard, Jersey City, NJ 07302. Mayor Steven Fulop and other city

officials will join the event to mark the momentous occasion. Festivities for the Ribbon Cutting will begin at 1:00pm. We encourage interested attendees to RSVP at the link HERE: Ribbon Cutting RSVP

Art House Productions was founded by Christine Goodman and sprung from the desire to connect a devastated Jersey City

community through art and dialogue shortly after the events of September 11, 2001. Since then, Art House has established itself as a pioneer of artistic,

cultural, and educational programming in Hudson County, significantly influencing the advancement of the arts in the region, and acting as one of the major forces for the professional non-profit arts community.

Art House Productions is the largest, longest-running arts organization in Jersey City producing the most diverse artistic programming. Art House is the only multi-arts nonprofit in the city with a dedicated visual arts gallery, a commitment to advancing NJ-associated playwrights, and programming that includes a dedication to providing accessibility options to its audience members such as sign language interpreters, Braille, tactile tours, and audio description.

Art House’s two-story, state-of-the-art new home, designed by nationally recognized theater architects Auerbach Consultants and constructed by the developers of 180 Morgan Street (The Hendrix) consists of a theater, a visual arts gallery, dressing rooms, and office space in an adaptable-use facility that will allow Art House to produce a wide range of programming year-round. It provides for the flexibility to meet the expanding needs of artists and audiences, contributing to the vibrancy, growth, and development of Jersey City and the greater region. It will enable Art House to build on our decades-long history as a beacon for the arts and as an economic boon to Jersey City as our patrons spend money locally, creating more jobs and more tax revenue for our city.

In this new space, Art House Productions plans to triple its audience numbers, bringing in

approximately 30,000 people annually to experience arts events. In addition, we will makespace available for business, nonprofit, and commercial rentals as a new source of revenue to support our programs.

The 99-seat black box theater is fully equipped with the most energy efficient LED lighting and The 99-seat black box audio theater technology, including a 16’x10’ retractable screen and 10k projector for film screenings, and soundproof control booth that overlooks the space. The theater will house a multitude of events including plays, comedy shows, film festivals, music performances, dance, and more. Equipped with movable risers and seating, it can be arranged into a proscenium, alley, thrust, or arena configuration.

The visual arts gallery is designed to accommodate rotating fine art displays of various media with maximum flexibility and infrastructure that allow for overhead rigging, lighting, video, and sound support. Brilliantly curated by Andrea McKenna, it features local and regional artists. Each exhibition commences with an opening reception, allowing guests to meet with the featured artists and other local artists and art lovers. The gallery is visible from the street, inviting pedestrians to engage with the art and welcoming them inside.

The support spaces include administrative and staff offices, dressing rooms, a green room area, and a multi-use lobby which is also visible to passers-by. These are all linked to the performance Cont’d on page 5

Jersey City Hosts Annual July 4th Street Festival & Fireworks with 80 Food & Artisan Vendors, Music, Entertainment, Activations & More

from cover

Mayor Steven M. Fulop joins City Council members, the Office of Cultural Affairs, and Jersey City Night Market for the annual Jersey City Fourth of July Street Festival and Fireworks, a familyfriendly event along the Hudson River waterfront promoting local small businesses and fostering community in celebration of our nation’s independence. This year’s event features 80 local vendors and food trucks, three separate stages of DJ entertainment curated by Lovelisa Dizon of Jersey City-based Chilltown Collective, a US Army flight simulator, and activations by the New York Red Bulls and New Jersey Devils. The festival is capped off by Grucci fireworks launching from two barges on the Hudson River to produce an unparalleled fireworks display framed by the New York City skyline.

“Every year, we host this free, family-friendly event as a way of bringing the community together for a day filled with entertainment, food, and fun. This year, we also want to highlight our local small businesses and restaurants and encourage attendees to explore what makes Jersey City so unique with a wide range of food trucks, artisan vendors, activations, and more,” said Mayor Fulop who resurrected Jersey City’s Independence Day event in 2013.

Gidget Terry, Founder and Owner of Empanadas by Lady in Jersey City, stated as a vendor “We are looking forward to being a part of Jersey City’s Fourth of July Street Festival again this year as a vendor. We have had such a great experience participating in recent years, and this platform has helped to grow our customer base throughout the area.

One of the three stages will be a “Tribute to Hip Hop” sponsored by 94.7 “The Block” where they will be broadcasting live all day from Jersey City. The City is partnering once again with JC Night Market by MMFB Productions to host the street festival from noon to 9 p.m. along Montgomery Street with activations, bounce houses, and other entertainment on surrounding streets, as shown on the City’s event map. Christine Goodman, Director of Jersey City’s Office of Cultural Affairs, noted “We are excited for this year’s big event with

so many food and artisan vendors, entertainment, DJ performances on every block, and of course, Grucci’s fireworks never disappoints,” For a full list of road closures please visit Jersey City website https://www.jerseycityculture.org/event/city-ofjersey-city-4th-of-july/

Please be advised that any bags or backpacks brought into the festival area are subject to search by law enforcement authorities. Attendees are encouraged to pack belongings in clear bags. Coolers are not allowed in the festival area.
