HOW CAN YOU HELP IMPROVE

COMMUNITY HIGHLIGHTS

school traffic conditions

22

57%

?

In Riverview, of youth are driven to school.

Parent drivers may unknowingly be creating dangerous traffic conditions around schools by contributing to a congested school parking lot. You can enhance traffic safety for children by respecting regulations and exercising these safety practices: NO U-TURNS AND NO BACKING UP Never make u-turns or back up a vehicle in a school zone. The maneuvers are difficult and can make it hard to see children crossing the street. PEDESTRIAN VISIBILITY Pedestrians should wear fluorescent, brightly coloured or reflective materials to be more visible to drivers. AVOID DRIVING INTO A CONGESTED PARKING LOT Leave your car at home and encourage children to walk, cycle or carpool. If you must drive your children to school, park legally on a nearby street and walk to school. Fewer cars reduce conflicts between pedestrians and vehicle traffic.

In partnership with the Frank L. Bowser School Parent Advisory Committee. Portions of this text were reproduced with permission from the City of Chilliwack.

WATCH CAREFULLY FOR APPROACHING TRAFFIC Teach children to look left, right, and left again. Always make eye contact with drivers of approaching vehicles before crossing the road. It is important for children to learn not to assume all drivers will stop.

PREPARE FOR THE UNEXPECTED It’s difficult for children to see approaching traffic when attempting to cross the road between parked cars. Drivers should be cautious when driving as children may enter the roadway suddenly.

Town of Riverview 1st Annual

Becca Told Me To DAY SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 16, 2017 Rebecca Schofield’s message about selflessness and spreading kindness has inspired thousands in Riverview and beyond. While facing her own very personal challenges, Becca is simply asking people to perform random acts of kindness in her honour, and posting them to social media outlets, while using the hashtag #BeccaToldMeTo. On September 16, we are encouraging each and every resident of Riverview to do the same, and perform one random act of kindness, recognizing Becca’s request to the world.
